- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Dark Alex is a ***** god. Its like a game of mouse where the mouse is occasionally kicking the cat in the balls with some steel toed work boots.
- Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You should just go with 3.02 OE-b. It does everything 1.5 can and alot more. There is absolutely no reason to stick with 1.5 anymore.

show some spirit for the holidays!
(Taken from a comment on that page) - serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Check the letter on the barcode when you buy. K is 2.7, L is 2.71 and M is 2.8, avoid N and later of course. Plenty of K's still on shelves here. I'd say >75% of retail PSPs can now be downgraded.
- slowmotiony, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6if you're not an idiot then you will be fine.
- readme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5PSP: $199
4GB Memory Stick: $89 at buy.com with Google checkout
Playing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in Sony's own emulator under 3.02 OE B: Sodding priceless!
You should have done the PS1 emulator thing right Sony. Who wants to buy a PS3 just to transfer PS1 games to the PSP? - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dark Alex FTW
- keeganzero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Trying this on my TA-082 PSP right now
- Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sony did say that PS1 games will be downloadable via PC in 2007.
Read: No PS3 needed. - johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Jay: I find it best, as someone mentioned, to buy used. If you go to a Gamespot, ask to be allowed to turn them on to "check them out" - then you can go into the System information and see what firmware they are.
- Himself, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3viva la freedom to tinker!
- doogiemac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i want a 2.81 downgrader :(
- kevin_qnn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3google.com
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well since I got mine on Xmas day... and it's 2.71 not bad I'd say :o) I suppose it depends where you live and how demand has been on PSPs. There are codes on the box that can tell you what version is inside... a buddy of mine just bought (two weeks ago) a new one in a target in bufu ohio and got a 1.5 old mobo :P
- BlkGuyAtThePrty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Buying used will increase your odds, but most new PSP are well above the now downdateable 2.80.
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Honestly I play ISOs but I buy the ones I consider good. Before ISO's I had Lumines and Megaman Powered Up. Loved both and I wanted an import so I got bleach (not so good). After ISO's I can actually decide which are really worth my money. I've bought (after playing them thru ISO) Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, LocoRoco, and soon to buy Daxter. Not sure if this applies to everyone but even though I play downloaded ISOs, I pay for the ones I like.
- blaize2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As an estimate I'd say less then 10% chance of a brick, as long as you follow the directions and do everything the read me states ya should be fine
- dgblackout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nice thing for people who bought late, i've still got the 1.5, but i think it's very nice to see people actually getting somewhere with the higher firmware versions.
i might use the custom firmware for my second psp. - nik0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2im sort of a noob to the psp scene but what is the percent chance that i will brick my psp doing this downgrade?
- Gerz1219, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1All this firmware hopscotch has gotten so out of hand that I wonder why Sony even bothers spending the money anymore. No matter what Sony does, someone figures out a way around it! Yes, we all know the real money is made on games and not hardware, but since the PSP has been getting embarrassingly trounced by the DS forever, Sony pretty much has nothing more to lose. A large part of the PSP's definitive loss has to be that within the minuscule base, a lot of owners aren't buying new games because they'd have to upgrade the firmware. At this point, you'd think Sony would want to build some buzz by selling the PSP as a versatile portable computer. Maybe some people would actually buy it, and maybe some of them would buy actual games instead of downloading ROMs.
- shadus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, ~70 successes to 6 (poll says 7 bricks, but one of the bricks started working after a few reboots... after he made vote in thread) bricks. Bit under 10% if all the success and bricks claimed are truthful.
- themulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I had a 1.5 release day PSP, and just updated to the hacked firmware, and I am glad I did. I can always revert to 1.5, but being able to play my PSX collection on my psp is pretty cool.
- Protean1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, does this guy have a paypal? Gonna have to google and send him a buck or 10...
I can now stream my security cam footage out to my psp via wireless! Woohoo!
Anywhere on the planet, I can now hit a hotspot and check what's going on at home.
I can use pVNC to control my home server, I can use my psp as a universal remote!
I can even tack it to my car dash, and wirelessly stream music from the carputer
in the trunk, or use the homebrew MapThis software and a usb gps for navigation.
No running wires, no carving up the car dash...
Thank You, Dark Alex. - scottjl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2upgrade your 1.5 to 3.02oe-b. i finally bit the bullet and did last night. process was as smooth as silk and not a single problem. surf the web, play my games, play homebrew. i've got it all!
- dpcdomino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1me too but I do not think it is that far off....
- Bluecobra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm crossing my fingers until 2.81 is cracked. (Damn you Vice City!) Sony should really consider releasing a development PSP that can run unsigned code similar to their "Net Yaroze" offering for the PS1 but without the obscene price.
- xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya same here, had to upgrade to play Metal Gear solid >
- RoboticClone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got to the point of running the downgrader and pressing X to restart the PSP. I pressed it, it went black and stayed black
- RoboticClone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes you can
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Do you know where you messed up in the installation process? Or did you follow word by word?
- RoboticClone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't work for me :(
Now All i have is a black screen on a $250 brick
This has not been a good holiday season for me - KillerKellerjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MGS: Portable Ops is a F'ing great RPG, best game I've played on the PSP to date! I know this has nothing to do with the downgrade but hey cheers to all you with a TA-082 MOBO!!!
- RoboticClone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tried that, no dice, it doesnt even want to turn on or off. There are no system sounds and no high pitched noise that it usually makes. For all we no it might not have been the downgrader maybe the PSP was just a dud. I already have it packed in its UPS box to go back to amazon.
- SuperSunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If I downgrade my TA-082 to 1.5 (already have HEND and 2.71), can I upgrade to 3.02 OE-B?
- keeganzero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1works 100%
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From the forums by kosseanix:
"Gone 1.5 perfectly and to 3.02 OEA and OEB perfectly too, for the persons that has the problem with the black screen you just have to press the "SCREEN" button, at the buttom of your PSP (near the START and SELECT) hope that helps, cya later and don't brick too many PSP's, just follow the easy steps"
Hopefully that helps ya. - Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Not sure what you guys are smoking. When it came out it might've sucked in games but lately good ones have been coming out.
Daxter
Killzone: Liberations
LocoRoco
Lumines I/II (if you like puzzle stuff)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
MGS: Portable Ops
Plus more out and even more that are on their way.
Edit: all but 2 of ones listed are pretty recent. - Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, everyone that has managed to get it down to 1.5 have reported successes at upgrading it to 3.02! Just make sure you read the instructions several times before attempting it to be sure to follow them closely.
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Let us know the results!
- geoffreyireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its getting better and better to be a PSP owner this Christmas
- andyrobo60, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can't see why sony hates homebrew so much. By now they should know that only people who hack their PSP are buying them. I know that people download games and play they illegally. But the PSP failed as a console they should cut their loses and let people hack them.
- sneakerelph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lots of success. i'd say the chances of bricking are less than 10%
- skagger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Did you run downgrader on a ta-082?
- aarrgus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes you can... just make sure you go to 3.02 OE-A first. You can't go straight to B without being at A. Unless you want to brick.
- JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2If I run out and buy a PSP today what are the odds I could downgrade it?
- geoffreyireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ridge Racer ain't a bad game either.
- sankeerth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Last week, I got a PSP from Circuit City. TA-082 with firmware 2.71. for 199 - 40 $ coupon.
Checked all web and found that TA-082 would be bricked if try to downgrade.
So, with this method can i downgrade and If it turns out to be brick, i guess i can return it to Circuity City saying it freezed and maybe replace it under 30day warranty.
Any success, with 2.71 TA-082 boards? - wickd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have a Ta-082 psp with 2.71 software, is this procedure going to downgrade it wiithout bricking, 100% gauranteed.
- gridbread, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How do you use/setup HEN-D?
- aarrgus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, 3.02 OE-B allows you to play virtually any PSX game, so that's pretty useful. Granted, if you want new portable games the DS is the better console, IMHO.... I've owned the PSP since just after it came out and haven't bought a single game for it, just used it for emulation since there aren't that many good games.
