- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -6/+41Nintendo Revolution if your priced right then here I come... $199 or less and I'll pre-order it!
- SlackerCS, on 10/12/2007, -11/+37These OMG CONFIRMD!!1 stories got old a year ago. It's confirmed when:
a) Sony tell us a price.
b) I walk in to Best Buy and read the sticker on the box.
Until then, who cares? - mycatsboots, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Would you like Best Buy to install it for you with its helpful staff?
- deeek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24@7of7 :: There are other great NES, SNES, SEGA Genisis, Turbo Graphics 16, N64 and Gamecube games that will be playable on the Revolution other than Mario.
- Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Reasonable? For a freaking console?!
- chapstick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Yes it is. Sony has confirmed they will be shipping only one version of the PS3 package. That includes the HDD.
- bluemech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21You'd buy a Revolution because you want a real console, not just a limited computer in a fancy case. Plus all the NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Genesis and Turbo grafix are playakle on it. And if you had any sense at all ,you'd notice the Mario games are all different.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Well they just lost any chance of me getting one at launch.....Thats way to much damn money. All hail Nintendo.
- TreasureChest, on 10/12/2007, -9/+26Before i pay that much for a PS3 they need to get rid of that awful controller!
http://www.plunder.com/Official-Playstation-3-Controller-download-513.htm
I've heard rumours they are planning to scrap it in favour of a new design they are unveiling at e3 in may. - mycatsboots, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I'm not an avid console gamer, but I spent many hours in my childhood playing games on Nintendo that weren't Mario related. Many of these games were also exclusive to Nintendo.
- PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17lol @ paying for linux not seeming bad
- Jedipottsy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16isnt the ps3 coming with a 60gb hdd as standard?
- mwdqk3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Another digg story is reporting that it is 499 euros, which is strait from the mouth of a SCEE VP.
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/04/05/scee-vp-says-ps3-will-cost-499-to-599-euros/ - dontbejack, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16The Nintendo Revolution is looking better and better as the time goes on...
- rand21althor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I still say what I have been saying. Seeing as how Nintendo is going to have the least expensive of the three next-gen consoles, they're going to win a lot of customers. Not only the price, but functionality. The PS3 is gonna be so expensive simply because it is not so much a gaming console as it is a multimedia center. All of that extra functionality and features are what is bumping up the price so much. That is one reason I'm in favor of the Revolution: with a gaming console, I just want a device that just plays games. There are other devices for that other stuff, like my computer. I'm not trying to come across as a Nintendo fanboy, I'm just pointing out common sense points about what a gaming console should be.
But, as to the price point for the PS3. That is more or less what I expected. Sony is still going to lose a lot per console. But that trend has been going on already, with Microsoft and the XBox. - AndrewMHagan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16I really hate how everyone is hating on the controller before they have even touched the damn thing. I don't know about you, but I don't stare at my controller while I'm playing.
For all we know, that controller would feel smooth as silk in our hands, pushing our level of gaming dexterity to new limits, but oh well. - pope7, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Sorry kids, for 500, i'll just buy a nice graphics card. Bleh.
- masonreloaded, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15So I guess we should all have stuck with Mario on the NES and not bothered with any other Nintendo consoles?
- wicketr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12When was the last time a console shipped for $500, standard?
- TheTankengine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I completely agree with you.
And for those of you (jedipottsy) who are thinking that the linux on the PS3 will be an actual functioning OS you can utilize like a normal comp.,much less a full on distro like gentoo or ubuntu, keep on living in your fantasy world with your "normal" 1080p tv. I'll be living in the land of the Revolution with my super kick azz 3-d gyroscope remote controller! - muleking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Whatever happened if $199 for 2 controllers and copy of Super Mario World.
I hope revolution is cheap and passable, or xbox360 price drops to a lteast $300 with a HDD - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wasn't the Saturn super expensive? What console am I thinking of that was released like 10 years ago that was going for something like $600?
I think that the huge corporations that are coming up with these consoles and price points are smoking some really good crack. I mean, a $300 *incomplete* console sells alongside a $400 full one from Microsoft with $60+ games, a $250 *handheld* console from Sony with $50 games that's crippled by required updates if you want homebrew games, and Nintendo's shown BARELY any support for its home console and pushes its handheld like the Gamecube doesn't exist.
The sad thing is that people are going to be more than willing to shell out $500+ for this thing, whether this price point is in euros or dollars. There are going to be lines out the door for this one just like there was for the 360. And what are we telling these companies? Basically we're saying that we're sheep willing to shell out top dollar no matter what it is. The only company I've seen that seems to be getting a clue about who gamers REALLY are is Nintendo with their (supposedly) affordable upcoming console. The sad thing is: Aside from Zelda and Smash Bros, I don't play Nintendo games anymore.
I love games (I have a PS2, Xbox, PSP, and GBA) but with all of my consoles put together I've still paid barely more than what the PS3 will be going for. (ps--I bought the PSP for $110 on eBay before everyone jumps on that)
I still haven't even bought a 360 because I think THAT price is insane for a console. Until the thing wakes me up and cooks me breakfast while giving me a massage I'm going to wait until it has a huge lineup of games and a lower price point. - Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Also, if you have a problem with your computer, you can use our trusty Geek Squad. They can solve a wide range of problems with their skills in reformatting and reinstalling XP.
- flamingmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14The PS3 controller may have look drastically like a boomerang but surely comes down to how ergonomic the device is in your hands. The sony guys must gone through a very long and expensive design process to get to that final model so dismissing it without actually having tried it is a bit premature in my opinion.
- cius, on 10/12/2007, -10/+19lol! I love the 360 overheating, ps3-constroller-as-boomerang comment! But I must say, I'll risk overheating anyday just to get a product I know is good for a cool benjie less. I won't even buy a 360 till the price comes down to 300 for the version with the hdd. I'm certainly not going to pay 500 for a ps3, hdd or not. Its simply not happening.
- jumpertk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12The PS2 had way more probs at launch than the 360 had and the controller is already being redesigned and the PS3 box isn't even a final box yet when its on display it still says its a "conceptual design". I have had my 360 since launch and have no issues with the console at all with heating or freezing issues
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"I'm seeing a lot of comments from peoeple who have no clue what they're talking about." - Yourself included
The 360 is $399, not $499
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/x/xbox360prosystem/ - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16I'm right there with you. It's going to take some sort of miracle for Sony to get me to buy into their elephant.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You will have to still pay couple for playing online, all they will give you is a way to connect online.
360 Its 400 bucks for xbox with HDD
And The 360 is anything but xbox 1.5 did you ever try playing it, or trying it out. I love my xbox 360
And people are going to love there PS3's but its diffrent for different people.
If they want 3rd party support, cheap easy online, great set up, and Great games the 360 is the choice
PS3 7 controller action, Big game disks, Videos of games that look Wonderful, Drms, And An online that you can play what you want but you need to still pay developers 5 or 6 bucks a month to play you decide - KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Make sure you buy that Performance Service Plan, its only $99.99!
- Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7@Nobi
I think you are either thinking of the Atari Jaguar or the SNK Neo Geo. Both were priced astronomically for their time, both failed miserably. Is PS3 next? - Bleek-II, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Power to innovation!, Power to the players!, Power to the Revolution!, and all at only $199.
- raitchison, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9$499 is as expensive as they could possibly make it and hope to have people buy it, the $500 mark is a major psychological barrier and sales would suffer tremendously if it cost just a few dollars more.
Still $499 is pretty pricey and considerably more expensive than the 360, I wonder how much of a problem this will be for sales, especially without compelling launch titles like Gran Turismo 5.
For me at least, likely I will buy one but not until the price is under $300 and after GT5 comes out (yes I know that could be a couple years) - zimm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9between this and bluray... and the rootkit mess.
sony isnt gonna have a good year... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Way too much. This will let an established Xbox 360 to get a bigger foothold and will leave the door open for Nintendo to undercut them with a lower price.
Sony has killed the PS through nothing more than its own stupidity. - Hollister, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14inaccurate.. bury
http://digg.com/gaming/European_Sony_VP_says_PS3_will_cost_499_to_599_euros#c1389324 - Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I am not a fanboy of anything, but c'mon here. $499 is a lot of money and only diehards will fork over that much cash to get it.
- FuManchuX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8720p HDTV is the norm? Amazing... I don't know anyone with HDTV. Where is the place that it's normal to have a 720p HDTV? I suppose people with that kind of money and nothing to do but sit in front of TV will shell out $500 for a PS3... but it's hardly normal.
You don't make money selling a console at a loss to a very niche market. Nintendo will make bundles selling consoles at a profit to all those children. That's my stock pick.
(Not planning on buying any console...) - duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -9/+15Naa, it's just because sony doesnt care one bit about its customers.
Always been a nintendo fan. i even still have a working NES :-) But alas everything is so much more fun when it's emulated through my modded xbox.
You havent REALLLY used an xbox until you have run Super Mario Brothers on it! - Romero3160, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I think the system is only going to be sold with a HD. Isnt Microsoft going to kill the core to compete with the PS3??? I see revo doing very well and a 360 price cut in the future
- jpcoombs, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11The reason people defend Nintendo is because Nintendo represents everything good in gaming. Nintendo only does games. No BlueRay vs Super HD wars, no monopoly cases, no pumping out hardware to one up the next guy. With MS and Sony it's like a pissing contest: whose hardwire can go longer, faster, stronger. It's awful refreshing to see Nintendo doing something brand new in the console market, not only in hardware but in approach to price point, the audience and pretty much everything else.
- SelfAppointedMe, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13All you retarded ass fanboys need to realize that the day one company takes over the video game world is the day that the good video games die. Competition is needed, get over it.
- listentothis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Thank you, submitter, for putting "confirm" in quotation marks.
- OneZeroZeroOne, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I personally cannot wait for Revolution.
I havn't given two ***** about "amazing" graphics for probably 5 or 6 years. Graphically, something better always comes along next year. Back when we were moving from 8-bit pixelated blobs to alpha blended 3-d skeletally animated bump-mapped buzzword utopia, you bet I was excited by it. But I got bored of paying $50+ for the latest graphics demo to come down the pipeline.
Don't get me wrong, graphics can make or break a game, but they're only useful if they help get the feel of the game across.
Look at it this way: you can pay $500 for a PS3, or $500 for a top-end nVidia card and 4 of the latest graphics demos/games that already look better than PS3/360, or $200 for a Revolution that even if you don't like the new games for you still have $300 to drop on old-school favorites that actually have some gameplay to them.
I bet some of the oldies will be re-released with extra features too. Can't wait. - KicktheDonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7When was the last time a console shipped with more than one controller, standard?
- Jedipottsy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8more powerful systems dont just allow better graphics. Physics, improved ai, better level design all come from more power. If it werent for the development of more powerful systems we'd be stuck with pong, its a fun game but tbh halo is much better.
- muleking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I think revolution is in a sweet spot right now, even without seeing the software or the final price.
I'll stick to my PC for highend gaming, and for the console gaming i can deal with mediocre graphics if im having a good time. The other systems kind of lack appeal because i can play Oblivion now on my sub-$1000 pc and its runs pretty decent. - masonreloaded, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah, with all consoles my rule of thumb has been to wait until at least the first price-drop before purchasing - there's no way I'm paying $400/500 for something that's gonna be $200/300 in 12/18 months time...
- duke_nate, on 10/12/2007, -19/+24So Sony will be loosing, on average, $300 - $400 on each system sold.
Solution = Everyone go and buy a PS3 and dont buy any games. And rent your BluRay movies from netflix!
Everyone needs to do their part in the destruction of the PS3! - SlackerCS, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Yeah a price cut and Halo3 at release time are all but gauranteed.
