- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+94And one would expect Peter Moore to say something different? I mean, he DOES work for Microsoft and all. This just in, Kaz Harai thinks the PS3 is better than the 360.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -31/+103You get what you pay for. I'd rather pay for my online experience for $4 a month than pay for a $600 system that leaves it up to the developers to do online.
I actually picked up a 12 month subscription for $20 off Craigslist. That means that I'm paying a little over a $1.50 PER MONTH for Xbox Live. I'd say that's worth it. - Bara, on 10/12/2007, -34/+85Considering the broken experience of PS3's online, then I'll gladly pay the $50.
- Masna, on 10/12/2007, -14/+56Well then, I'm sorry to say you, my friend, have obviously not e-x-p-e-r-i-e-n-c-e-d Xbox Live. Trust me, it's worth the $50 and a whole lot more.
Broken online play was Sony's biggest mistake with PS2, and yet they somehow let PS3's chances slip.
Xbox Live is the entire trip. It's the Xbox Live Marketplace with free game demos and movies, the consistent friends list despite the game your playing, the availability to have a private chat with anyone on Xbl, and to send messages universally. It's not just playing online with other people in a multiplayer game. It's the whole experience, and Sony blew it. - ahatter, on 10/12/2007, -15/+55@xuqu
and you own a 360?? - CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38Free online isn't always necessarily a good thing. By paying $50 a year, you have now made an investment into your online profile and reputation. This cost will persuade most people not to be complete dicks online and/or create accounts that can be used for cheating.
Paying a fee creates more value and, in turn, creates more mutual respect in the online community.
Hey, I love free, too, but when people talk about the amazing "experience" of Xbox Live, they aren't just blowing fanboy smoke up your ass. - drakino, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25It does matter. Moore isn't going to talk about any advantages of the PS3 since his paycheck says Microsoft. There are advantages of the PS3 over the 360, just as the 360 has advantages over the 360.
One big one is the PS3 is a quiet device that people won't mind having on to watch movies with quiet scenes on. The 360, well, some people can't stand the fan and DVD noise it makes, and use it only for games.
The PS3 comes with rechargable batteries out of the box. Both versions offer a hard drive, negating the need for a memory card. The PS3 also 99% backwards compatible, where as many 360 owners still have to keep the bulktastic XBox 1 around as well.
There are more, but this is just to prove there are advantages the PS3 has over the 360. I also believe the PS3 cost is the biggest negative right now, and the main reason I haven't run out to get one. If Blu-ray was the only HD standard, I would have had one on day one. And yes, I do own a 360, and tons of other consoles. I'm not in the odd camp that thinks people can only buy one console.
As far as the whole MS vs Sony thing, I just wish both sides would shut up about each other. Nintendo sits there and talks about their own products without bashing the competition, a lesson both Sony and MS need to learn. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Wow, even Peter Moore thinks so? Even PETER MOORE? Stop the ***** presses.
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18No, you see it does matter who it comes from, because he just supplied his opinion, with no REAL evidence. Just some stuff that sounds good. We know what his opinion is, because his job depends on it.
Look, I don't even own a single sony product, and I hardly ever comment on gaming treads, but when I saw the title, I could only think wtf. I'm pretty sure that I'll be down voted by the same fanboys who voted this article to the front page.. - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15FarNorthMac:
1. It's a trademark violation to use digg in your site name. You're going to get a cease and decist notice from Digg.
2. Your copy of vbulletin appears pirated, I'll make sure to drop them a note.
3. Stop spamming here, nobody cares. Spamming here is also a violation of your host agreement, where you're hosting your pirated vbulletin, copyright infringing "site." - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -12/+26That's retarded thinking if you really expect the PS3 to last 10 years. Hell, I doubt it will barely make 6 years. Do you realize how dated to graphics will look by then? 10 years ago you were playing either an N64 or a Playstation 1. Think about how far graphics have come since then.
As for the PS3 "far outpacing" the Xbox 360...it's not gonna happen. Do you remember when the original Xbox launched a full YEAR later and you could easily see the graphical advantage over the PS2 with their launch games? Do you see the same thing between the 360 and the PS3? Nope. Face it, the graphics between the two systems are going to be on par with each other throughout this generation. There might be a few differences here and there, but the PS3 has had a whole YEAR to improve on what the 360 offers. In actuality game reviewers already see that some 360 games look better than their PS3 counterpart.
Besides...I doubt a significant percentage of PS3 buyers will have the SAME PS3 that they bought by the time the next console is set to come out. There are a lot of people out there on their 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th PS2 since 2000. I bet that Sony is counting on PS3 loyalists to buy another PS3 when their first run system crunks out. Despite what Sony execs claim, no electronic device is "future proof." - tapo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Depends on your 360's revision. I got mine at launch, and the damn thing sounds like a jet engine when playing DVDs.
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Or, you know, we could just talk about the story here, in its comments section. Why would we want to go to another site to discuss something here?
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16In other news Bill Gates says Windows vista is better than Ubuntu
- CrazyMike, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17What are we waiting for?
- womfalcs7, on 10/12/2007, -44/+55So I guess the following aren't advantages?
- 40 GB more in storage (60 GB...read below)
- Motion-sensing controllers
- HDMI 1.3 support
- Internet Browser
- Blu-ray playback (BD stand alone players go for $1,500. All analysts say they're both of the same quality)
- Card Reader with facial recognition features when viewing photos
- Built-in wi-fi (That's a $100 Microsoft adapter add-on)
- Bluetooth connectivity (Use any cell phone headset to play, or share cell phone data, etc.)
- 7-controller support
- Larger size limit for downloadable online games. (500 MB - MS just increased theirs from 50 MB to 250 MB to try to compete)
- Easy interchangeability of the HDD. (Uses SATA notebook drive. I have a 120 GB HDD installed as we speak)
- Free online play with many future enhancements on the way
- No need to purchase extra devices to recharge controllers' batteries
- Linux and Windows operation (harder with Windows though)
- Quiet during operation
- DVR functionality (No need to buy an upgraded system for that as with the Xbox 360) - diggityiggity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@FarNorthMac:
I let your spam slide before, but now I've seen the exact same post twice in different threads.
We discuss things here. Go away. And welcome to my block list. - CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18"the PS3 is far outpacing the 360 in graphics capabilities"
Prove it. - wrenchone, on 10/12/2007, -12/+22Because I need a $600 video game system to do that rather than a ~$250 computer...oh wait...
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16It's called multitasking guys. You also can't buy a $250 computer that will play highly graphical/processor intensive games. The fact that we can have a high-powered gaming system that can also run Linux and do anything we want to do on a desktop/media center PC is appealing to some of us.
- posure, on 10/12/2007, -13/+22Anyone who thinks the free online on PS3 vs $50/yr Xbox Live is a valid comparison hasn't experienced Xbox Live on 360. Everyone that I have convinced to buy a 360 has been blown away by the level of Live integration that is in every nook and cranny of the 360 experience. Yeah, everybody loves free, but Live has a proven high quality track record that I am more than happy to pay for to guarantee its future.
On a related note, when are we going to get personal chat with multiple people at the same time (i.e. conference) on Live? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"PS3 has no advantages over 360" says Peter Moore who WORKS for Microsoft. All problems with the PS3 aside, what else would you expect him to say?
- radiofrequency, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9LOL. If the PS3 didn't have any advantage over the xbox 360, why did Microsoft release a 1080p update for xbox 360 right before the PS3 was released? Why did Microsoft release a high-capacity HD-DVD drive right before the PS3 was released?
What about the monthly service charge for xbox live vs. the free network for playstation?
In order to make the xbox 360 closer in features to the PS3 (and even then, the xbox 360's hard drive is a paltry 20GB - less than the capacity of a single blu-ray or HD DVD disk), the xbox 360 actually ends up costing more than the Playstation 3. - jacksons98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@joaob You forgot the /sarcasm lol
- joshman5k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I really look forward to seeing what else Open Source developers will do with the PS3.
I think we'll see quite a few free little games, that will be quite enjoyable. - RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -10/+18Wow you're in idiot. Not only did you take that out of context, you STILL misinterpreted it.
The full quote mentioned "I'd rather pay $4 than $600 on a system and LEAVE THE REST COMPLETELY UP TO THE DEVELOPERS". Any 2nd grader with brain damage could have comprehended that the word "and" meant the sentence was not over, and to continue reading because there's more. Idiot. It has nothing to do with price, it has to do with where the money's going to. Pay attention, moron. Xbox Live kicks any other services' ass, and $4 a month, Christ, just don't buy a coffee one day of the week if your budget is that tight.
Whats even more ignorant is people who SMOKE & say Xbox Live costs too much. Both are equally addictive, so STFU. - Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"PS3 has no advantages over 360, says Peter Moore"
In other news Pepsi says that Coke has no advantages and Ford reports that GM are a bunch of weenies. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12@ chocobomog
I agree that there wasn't a HUGE difference in graphics for the PS2 and the Xbox...until games that were released simultaneously were compared side by side for each system. I'm not a graphics whore but even I could tell that Splinter Cell, Kill-Switch, and any sports game that was released on BOTH Xbox and PS2 could be easily told apart.
The point is this: if we aren't seeing a huge difference now then we're not going to see much of one later on either. Xbox 360 and PS3 are on par graphically. I'm not saying someone is an idiot for buying a PS3 (more power to them) because everyone has their own taste. All I'm saying is that no one should get their hopes up for some huge graphical leap between the systems once the developers get more comfortable with them. - Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15I dont own an xbox and i think live is the best online. I own the wii but i know that nintendo's online for the wii will probally be ok, but xbox live definitly owns it at this point in time.
- AReallyGoodName, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Linux support is the big one but there's also the Blu-Ray movie support built in (360 requires an add-on for HD-DVD)
and the Sixaxis motion sensitive controller (360s controller is the only next gen console without montion sensing)
The only cons i can think of are lack of games (because it's new) and price (because it's new). - lonnieh, on 10/12/2007, -16/+22That's the only reason why I buy gaming machines... wait...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I think the consumers have made their decision, doesnt matter what Moore has to say. Ps3 is flat out not worth the price in any aspect over the 360. Maybe as a bluray player, but even that isnt even a smart purchase considering the format war going on. 360 offers the best next gen gaming experience hands down.

In conclusion, don't let digg posts mislead you. These results speak for themselves. Obviously PS3 is selling. - AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14I actually own both consoles. To be quite honest there is not much difference in them. Right now, the xbox360 is still my favorite because of the amount and quality of the games out. I have the same high hopes for the PS3's games as well so we will just have to wait and see. In my opinion it's all about the games.
- Mr.Chainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The 360 fanboys are strong in this topic. As well as the rest of digg.
- InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7100% better? Does that mean the PS3 doesn't even turn on?
- kruykaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Does the Ps3 bashing ever get old around here? Geeez!!!
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"The online service...there's nothing really there that I can really point to that I wish we had."
Add more bandwidth and I will agree with you. - PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Still no browser for the three six, there's one advantage I wish it had.
- MrMuffMeat, on 10/12/2007, -17/+22I still don't get why the PS3 fanboys think the PS3 is going to look better graphically than the 360. The 360 actually has more available memory available for graphics processing, where the PS3 is limited to 256 MB for graphics processing. The PS3 has exactly zero games that compare to Gears of War, or even Lost Planet for that matter. I keep hearing about how you can't compare 2nd gen 360 games to 1st gen PS3 games..... well guess what, by the time the PS3 gets to its 2nd gen games, the 360 will be on its 3rd gen, and so on..... the 360 will stay a gen ahead, is that going to be the PS3 fanboys arguement always?? When are all you fan boys going to realize that the only thing the PS3 does that the 360 doesn't is play Blu-Ray movies. Gaming wise, the 360 is just as advanced if not more.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Take my apologies for further dragging the PC into this, but playing the same 360 game available for the PC usually means hundred-dollar upgrades each or every other year. Consoles, despite their infrequent launch problems (which can usually be resolved by tech support), last for several years without the interrupting experience a PC might generate.
- fallenone05, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Well let me tell you something... oh wait...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6how do you know if ps3 will lose - you aint no market analyst
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7What is this "war" you speak of?
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The PS3 costs $5-600. It could be the best thing since sliced bread and people still wouldn't want to spend that much.
- kirk06, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Let's see....
HD-DVD, check. 1080p, check. Storage space, check. (With more on the way in the form of a bigger hard drive for that wonderful IPTV serivce? Probably!), Double-check! - ReCkLeSsX, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Is this really worthy of news on Digg?
Like it wasn't expected that the representative of Microsoft would say something like this. - spazticmidget, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8ok i have a ps3 and all my friends have 360 i like them both. they both have ups and downs 360 gears of war is a great game graphics on it are amazing and, resistance fall of man is a great game and the graphics are amazing on a different level. as for online, xbox live is nice, u can download trailers and arcade games... and play online....and...message and *****, same can be done on ps3, the format of ps3 online might not be as user friendly but it also has an internet browser and offers the ability to install ur own operating system.
- threepio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I personally had a hard time hearing him from his speaking point deep down in the Microsoft Pocketbook.
- lubacious, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@Guard
It wouldn't be a 40x delay unless it loaded the ENTIRE disk all at once, and even then most games wouldn't come anywhere near 200GB. -
