- BloodJunkie, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Wow, it didn't take long for developers to jump ship on the P$3.
- hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Why do you think they pulled it instead of updating it saying no its not true...think about it
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Original article backed up here: http://gcnaddict.com/mirror/708431p1.html
however, this page was buried because of the sony fanboys.
Rate me down; I don't care. - ReRush, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17Pwned.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13That's insane. I wonder if Sega is regretting abandoning the console market. Their main competitor got their asses handed to them several times in a matter of days, not including all the crap from months ago.
- upenox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16Wow, sony has completely failed in the matter of 1 week.
- m3mnoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11it's also over at evil avatar. they're gathering additional confirmations.

m3mnoch. - samury, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11The story is no longer on IGN's site.
- Saintlink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Lol, you almost feel sorry for Sony after all they've been through. Almost!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9They said it was a 3rd party USB controller.
- chickenselects, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11wouldn't it over heat? haha
- Qorzm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I heard that's not relevant at all.
- synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm a little skeptical but regardless, this has probably been the most interesting and eventful E3s in memory.
I'll hold off on both my laughter and my digging this until some confirmation appears. (edited to add) The thread suggests that it was actually a PC, not a 360. - coding, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7covered by a sheet? what the hell is this?
- jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7have you been to linksang yet?
- cduquette, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Haha that's the first time I've seen someone use the $ in a product or company name other than Micro$oft. +digg :P.
- Karyyk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Uhm, that wouldn't be any kind of excuse. This was supposedly PS3 exclusive, so how in the heck would it "not be ready for PS3 yet" but be RUNNING on XBOX 360 hardware?
- eclipseCDN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It would be easy enough to write the software to make a 3erd party USB controller work with a 360 and if this is true....PWNED!
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Part of me thinks this is bull, but the other part says "It's Sony"
- LawLSUVA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why in the world did IGN pull this? This is not like IGN to completely pull a story without a remark.
If this is true, this has to be one of the most embarrassing stories of E3 for Sony.
A P$3 exclusive running on an Xbox 360 with a sheet covering the system? Hilarious! - eclipseCDN, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This story is actually more probably than a lot of you give it credit for. This game actually got first mention at X05 (an Xbox event). If Ubi was working on the 360 version at first (as the final dev kit was in their hands for long when X05 was in session) and then planning to re-work their code for the PS3 and do a simultanious release on both platforms, but then bussiness kicked in an the PS3 version became time-exclusive, yet the X360 version was running better and far more stable it would make sence to demo it on a 360. Bear in mind that the two consoles performance wise aren't all that far appart and rumor has it that the 360 *might* be a bit easier to develop for.
I dunno, it makes sence. It doesn't really take anything away from the PS3 either, it just means that as of right now, the 360 version is probably further along. This makes sence if the time-exclusive deal was signed within the last month or two. - Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I don't know what your definition of confirmed is, a lot of websites are just republishing the pulled IGN article.
- copper7op, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4story was removed because its true. its confirmed on a few other sites
- weavr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I don't believe it seems an easy way to stir up bad press...still hope it's true though, just yet another slap in the face for Sony.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Why not just link IGN?
edit- Ok I see, it's been removed. This isn't credible enough without the direct link, but it's still interesting. It would be that the game will be exclusive in the sense GTA was for the PS3 and the way Splinter Cell was for the 360 - synaesthesia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So the mighty PS3 can be emulated by current-gen PCs?
As a poster in the neogaf thread suggested, IGN may have been motivated by reasons other than journalistic integrity to remove the story- IGN is required to keep good connections with the developers and games' companies. - 0x00, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This seems far too far-fetched to be considered plausible.
I'm sure they would go much further than just hiding the thing under a sheet. Also, I'm sure someone would have caught it before now and brought it up if they had any concerns that something was hidden under this sheet. IGN has removed the story, so I would report this as inaccurate until reliable sources could confirm it. - tim11198, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6It's just you, everyone else is sick of the root kits, the proprietary formats (this is not limited to Sony, decide on a frickin standard cell phone charger people! though Sony is a HUGE offender) the delays, and the overpriced hardware.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"And I also agree with you on overpriced hardware, Blu Ray is so cheap, the PS3 probably costs about $100 to make."
HAHAHA- an xbox(1) isnt even that cheap to make - hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Someone said TAL on IGN said its running on a PC. well thats interesting because this game was ONLY announced for the PS3. Damage control anyone?
- LawLSUVA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Either the Xbox 360 is capable of easy ports from the PS3 architecture, or Sony is really shooting themselves in the foot?
I may be wrong, but I think it's the latter. My how the landscape has changed in one week. - master_of_fm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2just a little bit of research does with google does confirm that the game was in development for the 360 and was mentioned at Microsofts X05 event, best guess is that the xbox360 version is further along then the ps3 version and they demoed using a 360. dont forget the original 360 demos ran on powermac G5s.
- titanass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For one this could be true but still makes it false. First the game is CGI not actual gameplay so it wasnt actually running on any system. It could have been running the CGI off a 360 or a PC or even a PS3 dev box doesnt matter cause it wasnt actual gameplay more like a movie clip. So this article is pretty false either way.
- dargis49, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This was also done at last years E3. Remember Figth Night was only shown for the PS3 and then we learned after that it was actually running on a 360 dev kit.
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Watch Sony make it like a Palm PDA where you can't access the battery easily and you need to send it to Sony for $50 bucks to get the battery changed out when it starts to loose charge."
Doesn't Apple do this with iPods? Oh, who cares its Sony. The hart of the evil.
/sarcasm - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6The game probably wasn't ready for the PS3 yet.
- misfit410, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4LOL, just...LOL
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No proof,No Digg,Reported
"was running on an Xbox 360 using a third-party USB PlayStation controller."
Shure, And I already have a PS3 :| If it was on the Xbox 360 it doesnt need a PS3 controller. - TinFoil209, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Sony might be bad this time around, but not that bad. "A sheet" come on.
I will admit this, looking at the "new" ps3 controller I don't see much, all I see is a usb port probably mainly for charging the wireless controller, like Motorola does with its blue-tooth ear piece / cell phone. So that means the PS3 controller will use probably use internal Lithium batteries. Watch Sony make it like a Palm PDA where you can't access the battery easily and you need to send it to Sony for $50 bucks to get the battery changed out when it starts to loose charge. - killtherat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm kind of fasinated by this. The story is shaky at best, but it seems like people are looking for a reason to bash Sony. It's like the need to hate Sony. The desire for drama is a natural human instinct, and there are curtain archetypes that are common in mythology and modern drama. In this case, for some people it seems that Sony has taken up the archetype of the once trusted align who has grow corrupt in his old age (see Darth Vader for another example of this archetype).
Once this archetype has been associated with an entity (be that person of organization), people have a propensity to reenforce the archetype with whatever evidence they can find. Take this story for example, a shaky retracted news story from a guy who knew a guy. I'm sure if something similar had been said about the Wii (who in this case, has taken up the archetype of the outcast mythical warrior come to destroy his twisted offspring), this story would have been immediately buried. There are other examples of this behavior as well, people seem to insist that Blu-Ray has a much more unfair copy protection scheme then HD-DVD, despite the fast that both use the same scheme, AACS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AACS). Or the fact that people insist that the 499 version is completely incapable of 1080p (component cables can actually carry 1080p signal), yes there is the ICT issue, but that's different then the 'completely incapable' people like to tout.
Anyway, it's an interesting study on how people react to archetypal roles in society. I think it would be cool to study the digg database, use some sort of heuristic to find positive and negative comments about the different platforms, and then analyze what else those people dugg. Do people that digg mac stories root the Wii, or do people that digg windows stories root for the xbox360? Could we use digg to understand complex social behavior in the face of emerging events?
Wow, I guess I've been working on that PhD for too long.... - hasanahmad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2This game isnt even announced on PC.....oh wait. its not even announced on 360
- Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Am I the only person who doesn't see how this a failure for Sony? Even *if* the demo was running on a 360 it was UbiSoft's call to do so. If UbiSoft has signed a deal with Sony to make Assassin's creed a PS3 exclusive it doesn't matter how the game was developed, tested, or demoed; at the end of the day Assassin's creed will be released on the PS3.
It wouldn't suprise me if it will make its way over to the 360 after a period of exclusivity. - Qorzm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3All hope is lost for Sony.
- wilf_brim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1OK, so the story got pulled completely from IGN, and moved off the front page at Evil Avatar. So you can conclude from this either:
1) The story is not true OR
2) It is true, but was taken down under the threat of getting locked out of any future stories, released, etc.
Either way it can't be confirmed, no digg. - psycocoffey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yep, this has gotta be one giant cover up.
This news is almost as good as when they cracked the 360 with a psp http://www.youtube.com/watch.php?v=sbAQkuVcbaA&feature=Views&page=5&t=t&f=b
you all remember how that worked out didnt you?
it even had "video proof"
Does anyone even think anymore? - fluffyturtle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well supposedly it wasn't the 360, it was a pc emulating the ps3.....
Which would mean the ps3 really isn't all that powerful, if the story is true that is but eh that doesn't sound very plausible. - keaegan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not to farfetched, being that the same game under a different name was previewed for the microsoft X05 event last autumn under the Name Project: Assassins or simply Assassins
- sspooner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I followed the link and was flabbergasted by the sheer number of illiterate people I found. I'm left with an awful feeling that, as a race of beings, we're doomed.
With that being said, I'm going out to get horribly drunk ... I'll be back later, probably less forgiving. - Everman, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5hm after reading a bit more, seems like it might be true.
Sony sure shot themselves in the foot this year. - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If it's true, it's funny. But I doubt it's true, so no digg (story removed BTW).
