- quomen, on 10/12/2007, -8/+39Dude, shutup already.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -9/+40You do know that the original Eyetoy was released far before Nintendo did anything unconventional other than provide good customer service...right?
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+29640x480 at 60fps is pretty impressive and the old EyeToy games are still the friggin best games ever to play with drunk friends (or with friends in general). They also are saying that you can get a "decent video using just the light of the TV" with this thing so they must have made vast improvements over the last one since sometimes under the wrong circumstances I couldn't get good tracking in an adequately lit room.
I'm sure plenty of people are going to jump in and bash this just due to the fact that it's made by Sony though. I say if it's under $70 for the whole package it'll be a "must buy" for me...especially if I can use it on my PC as well. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23And YOU know that before the Wiimote there were plenty of motion sensing peripherals, right? The reason they were both interesting is because it was the first time they were brought to the console world.
The gaming world is a big circle jerk of taking crap that's already been done and improving upon it anyway. No one is going to be the first to do something anymore. - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23"The irony of Wii success news coming out the same day as the PS3 doing something unconventional... priceless! It's especially ironic considering Sony called the Wii a novelty back in December"
You little *****, that's not even close to irony. - CanadianGeese, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Mad props to Sony for providing a way to group chat from the same room! I wish the 360 had that!
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15No bashing here -- Eye of Judgment looks really neat. If using real cards with the camera works out, I'm sold. Pulling out a card and seeing all the stats pop-up on screen would really trip me out.
Here's some pics of Eye of Judgment at TGS2006: http://www.flickr.com/photos/reality/249664052/in/set-72157594294803703/ - InfinitySnatch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Not sure how useful that would be. Maybe if you were forming Voltron...
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I have no idea if they'll be able to deliver, but if the demos they showed to hype up the cell chip turn out to be anything close to true it'll be fun at least.

And here's some totally pre rendered stuff that I'd guess they released to show where they hope to go:

Because I certainly couldn't care less that you don't care. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16haha yeah linux is a ***** os you can't do anything with it
o_O - knowitman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I find it funny how when good news about a PS3 innovation is released, people try to turn it around to make it sound bad.
I remember have a lot of good times with the original Eye Toy. This should be the same. Hopefully they can get it to be more mainstream as well. - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9blackknight, maybe....... just maybe.... the high FPS is need for better motion tracking use in a game. But INAGD so don't take my opinion seriously.
- spidermanspants, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14stop your bitching
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Web cam chat could be very cool if it was implemented in games somehow... Not sure how though... Maybe like, if it was a star wars online game, and you were piloting a Tie fighter, or whatever, you could bring up a display of your friends talking to you from their spaceships as you make formation to destroy the death star
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh god, I really do NOT want to know what parts a bunch of pre-teen crybaby fanboys would try to form over a webcam on the internet.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Eye of Judgment has me really intrigued too. I never play those type of card games, but would really enjoy seeing some sort of standard board game like Risk or Monopoly take advantage of that.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You obviously haven't played the eyetoy. I still rank it up there as "more fun than wii minigames" although I admit it was nothing close to as accurate.
- rcomegys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6God you're stupid. You'd better hope you're really good looking, because otherwise, your lineage dies with you.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Um a $5 webcam would be the biggest piece of crap ever. My current webcam was $30 and it only does half of the resolution that the Eye webcam does at a low lower framerate.
The 120 framerate has nothing to do with what we see, but if you would've read the articles, it has more to do with games that require you to move quickly so the camera can track your every move and not lose the data in between the frames. - coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Um. There are like 5 games I'm interested in coming out in September and that news has already passed. The reason you don't think there are any good games in the future of the PS3 is because either you're not looking or you don't want to know. The same thing happened with the PSP.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I just hope they have more accurate hardware and software than before instead of just focusing on making the camera HD.
The PS2 one never worked too well for me, even when I lit up my room like a Chirstmas Tree.
.... it was also embarrasing to find out the thing suddenly takes a picture of you for the high scores, I should have worn a shirt >. - RoroCo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5a la Johnny #5
PS Eye is Alive!!!! - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2C&C3 on the 360 has Vision cam support.
If Eye sells well, I'm pretty sure developers will start adding support for it as well. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was playing the demo for C & C for a while and the only time I saw someone with the vision cam he was 14 years old.... awkward.... I'm only 17 and that freaks me out, I really don't want anyone I play with to be able to see me whenever they want.... But I'll buy one of these cams for video chat with friends and the games made for it.
- Timmmm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think the latency is more important than the frame rate.
On the original eyetoy there was a good 1/2 second lag between moving and the video updating. - mavranos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Crap- didn't they watch the 360 camera launch.
Here comes the PS3 penis cam!
Game console cams are the worst idea ever. Unless you are a hormonally challanged teenager who likes to flash his junk at everyone. Or a creepy middle-aged ped looking for a hormonally challanged teen to flash his junk at you. This crap is a pedofile's dream.
*shiver*
Bad, Bad idea. - compujunkie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...chill your nuggets fanboy; I understand your need justify that $600 dent in your wallet anyways. Best of luck to ya! I think Sony has a term for investors such as yourself. I believe it's called sucker!
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Look at the wii, it's controller uses a built in camera that is i think 60fps+"
Actually it uses a 200 fps 1024x768 IR camera.
The reason the Wii remote is at 200 fps and that the ps3 cam is at 120 fps is that 30-40 fps is not enough to track quick movements. - elqboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i will tell you why...because it will be able to pick up your heart bit at 30 feet aways

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree with coheed.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://threespeech.com/blog/?p=396
Choose from a variety of Snakeball riders – and if you want something more personal, you can map your own face onto a rider with the next-generation PLAYSTATION®Eye USB camera. - NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Look at the wii, it's controller uses a built in camera that is i think 60fps+
- shadgenki, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Ugh. Same thing, different system.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -15/+10If you love the Wii, you need to shut up right now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1wtf 120 frames, who hte hell needs that. 60 fps is as good as you can see it. 30-40 is already hard for most people to discern. WHY 120! pointless *****. I like the ps3 but this is just nonsense. Buy a cheap webcam for 5 bucks man.
- ihsubandos, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Should have called it "Eye Play"
- kazzyD, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1@eplawless, clever! I don't disagree. Irony isn't something that has to be mutually exclusive. Your irony and mine are both valid...
- cpugeek2214, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2The EyeToy was horrible, so I don't see how this will ever go anywhere.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Actually, kazzyD, the Wii being declared the winner at the same time Sony does something really cool IS irony, but I'm pretty sure you won't be happy when you understand why.
- Asianwaste, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2The eyetoy needs the rumble feature :P
- compujunkie, on 10/12/2007, -13/+4Funny, I thought this was going to be a real announcement that mattered for PS3 owners, like GAMES!
- Echuta, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Change "the Eye promises to deliver unprecedented cam-enhanced gameplay" to "the Eye has the potential to deliver unprecedented cam-enhanced gameplay...that is if Sony doesn't screw it up".
The face mapping with the 360's Vision cam is pretty cool. Hopefully Sony will be able to do some similar stuff with this. - kazzyD, on 10/12/2007, -14/+4Nice, infinitysnatch, way to logically explain your side...
- JBCougar, on 10/12/2007, -15/+4Great, so now all the PS3 owners out there can buy this and see all the other PS3 owners looking bored and regretful about their $600 purchase.
- mobbydick, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1How can you sell a camera to all those PlayStation fans? They're so ugly they're not gonna be able to take it.
- Kruse, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Wow, a webcam?!
I'm going to buy a PS3 now! - BlackKnight6, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Some of the specs are impressive, but 120 FPS? Almost all (I think toshiba has a 120hz series, thats all I know of) HDTVs are only 60Hz, you wouldn't even be able to tell, kind of a waste. How about instead of 640x480 max motion cap we get an HDTV resolution, like 1280x720 (720P)?
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -21/+7Who cares! The eye toy was stupid gimmick and so is this.
