- DanBru, on 10/12/2007, -3/+98Paradox is one of the most respectable/old dumping(heh) groups of the scene, for any console. So I would trust them.
- thejokell, on 10/12/2007, -15/+96Now if only there were PS3 games worth pirating...
- FlashMasta, on 10/12/2007, -16/+76I always trust news from a NFO file released by a warez group. They should start a newspaper.
- hokeywebb22, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34This is the best news Sony's had all day. This might actually cause some hackers to go buy a console.
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Paradox has been around for 17 years...yea I trust them
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PARADOX_%28warez%29 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26So... they should migrate from one hacked system to a system that's been hacked for almost a year?
- elcamino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21"Boo. Piracy, like alcohol, is not the solution for your problems."
No, but just like alcohol, it can be tremendous fun! - Sabin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Ya, people buying a console that sony sells at a loss and then never buying any software for it would be fantastic for sony. /sarcasm
Really sony would be happiest if eveyone went out and bought 3-5 games even if they don't own the system.....especially if they don't own it. - fugazi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Have fun pirating 20GB games...
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18:D I will
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16I agree. Title is inaccurate. It is well known that xbox 360 game backups have been working for many months.
- Silby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17"it appears that crackers may have succeeded to make an iso loader for the PS3"...
White power!! - dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Until they update the firmware.
- SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12^^ except new games will include updates and refuse to run without updating firmware..
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18Did you really have to say "cracked before the 360"
Do you want to turn this into another flame war?
:/ - Holosoth, on 10/12/2007, -7/+19No, There's an elephant in the way.
- WermerSkoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10@FlashMasta
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not.. If you are, then I'd say: "Well I'd trust them a lot more than most of the media these days..." And if you're not being sarcastic, I'd say: "Yes, I agree, good job." - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10From a usability standpoint (and not a piracy standpoint) I'd be very happy to see load times decrease. Less "Please Wait - Loading" and more playing is always good news.
- Holosoth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Uhh. I'm not kidding. The "elephant in the way" is pretty much the size of the isos.
- ktan91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If it uses the PS3 itself to load the ISO then I agree that the PS3 is/was hacked before the 360. The 360's drive is cracked... not the 360 itself. We haven't figured out how to run homebrew, or anything of the sort. I hope the way that they found allows us to run unsigned code... unlocking homebrew for PS3!
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9So great of security general users can't use the machine to do anything except what Microsoft wants them to do with it.
If that's the definition of security these days, I'm much happier with my unsecured hardware. - Blandyman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Somebody call Dark_Alex! He should be around for the PS3 to dump the firmware and give us hacked versions endlessly (he's been incredible at getting us v3.03... he got it to the PSP scene 2 days after it was released, hacked and allowing homebrew).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8and the people complain that sony is "anti homebrew" with their PSP, then they crack the ps3 and the first thing to show up is for this crap
with homebrew comes the good, and then illegal ***** like this. - wush, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I don't know why this would increase your interest in PS3. It's not like there are loads of great games that are now within your reach.
- Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9"its stealing"
No, it's copyright infringement. - olddirtycr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Metal Gear Solid, Motorstorm, Unreal, Virtua fighter 5, Armored Core 4, Heavenly Sword, Assassin's Creed, Burnout 5, Killzone 2(Hopefully they've learned from their mistakes),Ratchet & Clank, and GTA 4.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I've heard the 360 has formidable security to prevent it from running unsigned code and improper media. Tricking the 360 (via the DVD firmware) to run a DVD backup of a game is one thing, but getting it to run unsigned code is another thing entirely. I get the impression that the 360 will never be cracked to run unsigned code, at least not easily (i.e. a modchip).
- NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9UH?
EVERYONE THAT PIRATES GAMES! - Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Seriously, what's the world coming to... I got into the Vanguard: Saga of Heroes betatest, but gave up on it after downloading 10GB, when I realised there was another 10GB to download. I just finished Ocarina of Time, it's awesome and weights about 40mb. And, most probably, it's a lot better than a lot of those 20GB monsters. Heh, with the current trend I wouldn't be surprised seeing MGS5 or something on several Blu-Rays.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Also more than Gamecube and other consoles before this generation.
The idea that none are selling cannot be backed up until there are actual figures out. Looking at full shelves doesn't indicate the rate at which something is selling.
Both iPods (2G Nano and Shuffle) and Zunes were brand now for Xmas and littered the shelves all through the holiday. But one sold over 21M and the other sold well under 1M. You can't tell sales by looking at inventory. - JesusFaction, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6but then you have to buy a blu ray burner and blu ray discs
sony still wins! - edzieba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Didn't they also do that incremental-firmware-update thing with the PSP? And isn't every single iteration of the firmware being successively cracked open? I rest my case.
- emehrkay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wonder if it has anything to do with Linux being available on the PS3
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8There *was* interest. Units aren't moving anymore.
- EnSvensk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes... everyone can copy their games....if they have a Blu-Ray burner and Blu-Ray DVDs. Care to guess how much those cost? ;)
Hint: More than just buying the games you want - Wisgary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Every PSP firmware has been cracked by now, and on top of that, I have a 1.5 PSP that can run 3.x games just fine by tricking the game's firmware checker. So your point is moot.
- dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@womfalcs7
Yeah but if you're buying a new system it will have newer firmware. - tyler1175, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4actually ps3 games are about the same size as 360 games heres a list http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=9 most are about 7 gigs
- anarchy99, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5either way you look at it piracy is good for the system
at the end of life for one of these consoles they never sell every last one, they end up in landfills and such so even on a loss leader they make some money back so they loose less and one of those consoles that wouldnt have been sold gets sold
so if i by a ps3 for piracy they make some money back and thus are better off
then there is the fact that they make money from game companies ever notice that every xbox(360) game is signed by MS
the game companies pay for that privilege or the this product is licensed by nintendo, the game companies pay for that (a flashcart for the ds for example wont run out of the box and has a not licensed by nintendo warning)
then there is the fact that the money doesnt die it goes to another part of the industry for example if i bought every xbox game i wouldnt have been able to by my new hdtv which now makes it probable to get either a 360 or a ps3 where before i would just buy a wii because i would see the biggest selling point of those systems(graphics)
so stop spreading your anti piracy propaganda - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*currently copying games over to my psp's memstick*
Thanks, Sony. ;) - nashdawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is true, the current cost of adopting a bluray "backup" plan is much higher than with current DVD, but we forget that DVD burners used to cost an arm and a leg as well. Prices will drop.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe piracy will kill off the PS3, like the Dreamcast.
Nah.. it'll be the high price of the system and games. - nashdawg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Could this be Sony’s unintentional silver bullet? Lets say, for arguments sake, that MS has played the nextgen game perfectly. They were first to market, they continue to crank out games like Gears of War, have a huge online community with HD movie downloads, then they make a price cut when PS3s are finally readily available, and they come out with a new version of the system before Christmas that includes a larger drive and HDMI. Sony is reeling and has no answers other than bluray, but then the system is cracked so that everyone can copy their games. The 360 is so locked down that people who want to back up steal are left out in the cold. Could this blunder really boost the PS3? An unintentional silver bullet?
- whoreman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If this really makes a difference then Microsoft could respond with a leaked document (for example) that details how to get around any security making it possible to made a mod chip or something like that.
- VulnoX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All I see is a repeat of the PSP.
I had a PSP since it came out. Went from 1.5 to 2.7 before getting a downgrader and then running the 1.5/2.7 dual firmware. I "pirated" some games even though I pretty much owned 6 already which were the only six that were worth having.
I got bored with the pirated games in about a week. Only found one that was worth playing, and even then it wasnt that great. Also, many of the games were so large that it was either the only thing I could fit on my 1GB memory stick, even with compression, or sometimes it did not fit at all. I did not want to spend more money on a 2GB either just to not pay for a game (seems backwards to me).
All the while, the less hacked (it is kind of hacked, but not as readily as the PSP) Nintendo DS continued to climb and outsell the PSP by more and more every month because it had games people actually wanted to play.
So I see mostly the same thing for the PS3. Files too large for it to be worth the trouble, and even then 90% of the games will not be worth pirating.
Also, the PS3 is not failing because people have to buy the games, its the poor interface, slow response, problems with the controller, and so on. None of the major headaches of the PS3 can be solved by ISO Loaders.
P.S. I sold my PSP a couple weeks ago because despite all the hacking ability's, it got old and I still never played it. Although I do miss it sometimes, the graphics WERE beautiful for a handheld, and burnout was fun as hell. - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Great...here come the Sony updates that come around more often than the PSP "required" updates.
"Sorry, in order to play Metal Gear Solid 4 you must upgrade your PSP to firmware version X.XX" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No.. The dreamcast was destroyed by the same thing, this is definately not good for sony.
- Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It isn't even copyright infringement. It's fair use.
...Oh, for a perfect world... - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You claim slow response is the problem. And then you say it can't be solved by an ISO loader?
If slow response is part of the problem, then loading from hard disk would be a huge help.
But honestly, that's not the problem at all. The problem with the PS3 is that it doesn't have any games. This is the same problem 360 had and Wii has, it'll pass. - NiGHTSChao, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5:/ Its not THAT bad in my opinion
