- wyfflemunky, on 10/12/2007, -9/+69The SNES was problem free on release. Wasn't it?
- truspector, on 10/12/2007, -20/+77Sony tried to put too much into one box. I don't expect to see alot of these video type issues, but mark my word, an internal power supply is going to heat damage alot of units.
- iceperson, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43"Only 1 of 300,000 units being a defect in the electronics field sure seems pretty damn good to me!"
Does your ass hurt? Just asking 'cause that's a really big number you just pulled out of it. - Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -6/+44I recall Consoles being thrown across rooms as a child (NES) and still working.. controllers, power supplies.. all worked with a bit of duct tape and still do to this day. My Intellivision and Atari 2600 both still functional.. they don't make them like they used to!
- NICU, on 10/12/2007, -16/+45Oh my god why don't people learn? Remember that time when a console was released and there were no problems and no bugs in the hardware or the software? Yeah me neither... First generation hardware or software of any kind has bugs in it. There's absolutely no way something as complicated as a PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360 does not have problems on launch day. If you buy a first generation unit you have a much better chance at getting a broken one than if you wait a few months.
- krum, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32My Sega Genesis and Atari 2600 didn't have a problem.
- serend, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27try using a period.
- GraceMolloy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27My Sega Dreamcast was PERFECT.
- DollaDollaBill, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26Everyone loves and hates the vocal minority.
- ilitirit, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21"The SNES was problem free on release. Wasn't it?"
Yeah, but back then Digg wasn't around to disprove that. - Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20This is a PS3 we're talking about. Not that large of a sample size :)
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16I would suggest calming down and then using some sort of proper punctuation, capitalization and perhaps some paragraphs as well.
- xrisnothing, on 10/12/2007, -8/+25Game cartridges = no moving parts = fewer problems
I say bring back the carts! Enough with this optical junk. - DolphinGL, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19I don't get it. I'm hardly a Sony fanbois, but if you take a large sampling of ANY electronic products you're going to have some DOA's. It happens. It's not news.
- BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Use some freakin' punctuation! I'm not a grammar nazi, but come on.
Edit: serend beat me to it. Glad to see you agree. - tuxidomasx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15as much as i'd like to take this opportunity to rag on Sony some more, a few bad units is not indicative of a flawed manufacturing system or a badly designed product.
Consoles are complicated pieces of hardware. Many TVs ship with bad pixels, automobiles get recalled, laptop batterys explode, etc.
i hate to be cliché-ish but... "***** happens." - batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+21Wow a story blasting the PS3, never thought I'd see that on the front page.
Consoles are getting to be like MS OS releases, you should wait after the initial release for more of the bugs to be found, then if you still decide to get it, wait for the first patch/service pack/fixed version. - Calypsoaf, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20This happens all the time. 360's were chewing up games and their power supplies were 2 degrees away from exploding, I remember people posting "How to's" online to hang your 360 from a hammok from your ceiling to keep it cool. I am sure there will be a few defective Wii's as well. Truly this is hardly newsworthy.
- RiemannLebesgue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11There are quite a few posts on the PlayStation boards by people who are having problems. Most aren't as major as it going totally "dead", but still, it's gotta be disappointing for those who waited for days and spent hundreds of dollars on the console.
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14You realize a cart would cost you about 200 dollars just for the flash drive?
Besides, the NES was horrible when it came to reliability. Everyone knows the problems from overheating, dust collection, and simple glitches. Nostalgia aside, it was kind of a piece of crap.
(Fun. But a piece of crap.) - BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8If you bought it at Best Buy, you're out of luck no matter who you are...
- lcmatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Every time I load this website up all I ever see these days is another post slagging the PS3 off in one way or another, its becoming more and more boring.
- HP844182, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'll try translating:
"::laughter:: How about this story? Three(3) weeks ago my grifriend and I camped outside Toys 'R Us here in East Brunswick, NJ. The manager said that the store was only getting eight(8) 60GB PS3s and that was it. We waited 28 hours to get our tickets and had to come back today to pick up the units. We even took time from off of work so we would not have to deal with people trying to steal your Playstation. The store opens and I go inside with my girlfriend who payed for the two Playstations to find out that the store had a problem. Only three(3) units where sent to them because Sony had a shortage and they did not have anymore. I inqured as to whom the Playstations had be sold to. I was outside when the store opened and no one was outsite. There were other people with researved PS3s with their tickets. I told them "Bullcorn, I have been outside for 1 hour and no one had slept here and no one was in front of us. Anywho I am here waiting for the district manager to call us as to tell me where the are our two(2) PS3s. I cannot wait to see what will happen on Sunday when we go back to pick up two(2) Nintendo Wiis
I WANT MY PS3 and I would like a credit as well towards a game or other relavent accessory. FUDGE TOYS 'R US. ??? wasting my time."
***** it, that took too much effort. - isthisnametaken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7well most people haven't received theirs from ebay yet... :P
- Solarux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My parents play Dr. Mario on the NES all the time.
...and my ColecoVision is still functional the last time I checked. Zaxxon this. - Philodox, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Has anybody actually verified that there are only 200 000 PS3's in North America? If it hasn't been verified I wish people would stop publishing it as a fact.
- gdefelice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Are all the punctuation keys broken on your keyboard? It hurt my brain to figure out what in the world you were talking about. Remember, the period and the comma are your friend.
EDIT: It seems as if I am not the only one who noticed - Ninjamonkey, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9The only two consoles I've ever had problems with were from Sony and Microsoft. My Xbox has a disc read issue and my PS1 I bought on lauch day had the overheating/video skip problem. Now my NES has issues but I can understand that since it is much older than the other two.
No problems at all with Gamecube, Dreamcast, Genesis, SNES, DS, Gameboy. - batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Shaking our heads at those idiots that also bought a 1st gen Next Gen console and were surprised that they had issues.
- slaystench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I have owned nes, snes, genesis, n64, dreamcast, ps1, ps2, and a 360. I have only had problems with my 360. I got lucky with my ps2, as I have had it since launch and it still works perfectly, but many friends have had to get new ones. It happens.
- batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah, F Toys 'r us and that darn manager that sold us units based on information he had at that time. Damn him i tell you!! Damn him!!
/sarcasm
Seriously, calm down. I didn't know the PS3 also had a ventiliator in it that was going to replace your life support. - cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OK, Lets see what I'm not putting my self through
1. A riot at Best Buy, or any retail store for that matter.
2. A PS3 DOA. (lol) sorry about your luck.
3. The Cold. Well cuz its cold.
4. My car broken into.
5. Mugged in line by some strung out ***** who wants it more than I do.
6. 480 resolution cuz I dont have 1080p. but 1080i instead
7. Getting stalked even though I couldnt get a PS3, but they dont know that.
8. Scratches because I looked at it
9. Buying games that cant break a 5 out of 10. At least not yet.
10. Last but not least. A headache, dizziness, vomitting, nervousness and not knowing if im gonna get one because the stupid manager said the store only had 35 units and there are more than 50 people out here.
Good thing I have patients enough to hold on for a few month. - batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Jrr6415sun
LOL!!! - vp0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*gasp for air!*
I'm out of breath from reading it with no pauses - maxx77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is this a story about a dead PS3, or about DOA being ported to the PS3? Boobies!
- batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3As I type this 6 of the Gaming FP stories are PS3 bashing stories, 1 is about Halo 3, and the rest is all about the Wii and how if you had 2 Wii's in the same room the room would explode.
And if you touch three Wii's together it will create world peace, that's one magical machine I tell you. - sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So if dude1 stands in line and buys a unit at best buy, sells it to dude2 on ebay, and the think ends up dead, what happens? Is dude2 out of luck? Can he take it to best buy and get some kind of support? Oh crap, but he just spent 1200 bucks to get it the first day and best buy will tell him to wait until the next shipment for an exchange right? If they'll even work with him without a receipt or with the receipt the dude1 might have been nice enough to send along with the unit.
"Oh so you're Dude1 from Wisconsin and you want to exchange this in Colorado? No? Your Dude2 and you bought it from Dude1 and he shipped it to you? Not sure we can help you buddy." - xLiKx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3sony launch systems ALWAYS had problems.
- batmanjr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Be calm. Be calm. I'm sure the illusion of MS fanboys will rapidly wash away, when you see the next article about how flawed Vista is, there is some new badass Firefox mod, how IE7 opens more security holes, and oh yeah Ubuntu just cured cancer just by being in existence.
It will be ok, please resume the fetal position. - halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@batmanjr
It's not just Consoles.
I was nice and complacent about iTunes 7.0. Now it looks like we'll have to wait for 7.3 to get a decent iTunes version.
Never go with the first version, or the second. It's been my experience that you want to go with the third or later. - Chaoswing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5The Gamecube had problems?? What about the Genesis? Dreamcast? All problems free. Sony and Microsoft on the other hand seem to have the bad habitt of releasing consoles with flawed hardware..
- AzraelKans, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wii FTW!
- StandardsDT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2look at the key on your keyboard that says caps lock. press it no one likes a caps locked comments.
- gcauthon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I would expect a more expensive console to be more reliable, not less.
- canti32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@Phelix
That should be only 1 in 300,000 that have been reported already. Who knows how many units are actually screwed up, especially with all of those unopened units on E-bay. - awhite2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There is no such thing as an electronic item with 100% quality control. I have had several products DOA or die very early in their life. My family's Intellivision died in the early 1980s after about a month of use. I bought a Game Boy the first week it was available. After a few months it started to develop blank vertical lines on the screen - a common problem. Nintendo replaced the Game Boy quickly. I had a VIC-20 croak after just a week. Lately - I have been lucky. My XBOX, PS1, Genesis and SNES have all been trouble free since day one. I also have a basement full of classic computers and games systems.... all running well.
- Elektriq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Out of every PS3 console, two are broken.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2IDIOTS LISTEN:
Just because a console is 'launched', doesn't mean it's mandatory to buy one ON THAT DAY.
Just shut the ***** up already. You morons have been getting more and more annoying as the PS3 arrives. It's the doppler affect applied to fear. - vp0ng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2hmmm... too bad there isn't a bold typeface along with a font size option so i can shout as loud or louder than you are. This whole topic has way too many caps for me, along with a whole lot of pent up emotion.
