- OrGoN3, on 10/12/2007, -39/+152Wii is stuck at 75,000 probably because there are none to buy! So the PS3 conquered France, who hasn't? It's not that difficult.

- chocobomog, on 10/12/2007, -16/+68What? The Xboats didn't convince the French otherwise?!? But the Xbox 360 ♥ them! The French are such heart breakers.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+51I guess you'd never buy a high-end car either, like a BMW, Mercedes? They have a 6% failure rate. If it's made by a human, it's going to break.
You FOOL! - Salgat, on 10/12/2007, -35/+69I feel that this is an unfair and somewhat misleading statistic. What people forget is that unlike the Wii, that released around the world at the same time, Sony had half a year to come up with enough units to meet the demand. I have no doubt that the Wii would have sold so much better if it had enough units to sell to everyone on the first day, instead, it only met a small percentage of the demand its first weekend.

you so Crazy! Trying to use logic instead of a 5 word title to prove your point - JayD16, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26You release early with small demand and people yell at you because you are withholding units on purpose to increase demand and cook your books.
You release late after you stock pile enough so that no one gets shot at launch and people yell at you because you wanted to bring in big numbers and cook your books... - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -13/+33You would think they could have at least put "Xbox 360 ♥ Vous" on the boat.
- kazimir34, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27There are for sure a lot of people bitching about France. Seriously it's time to grow up.
- brokekneck, on 10/12/2007, -18/+34 For the headline sake, I dugg this. There is one thing I can't stand about Xbox 360..... Its fan boys.

Anecdotes (especially on the internet) do not equal evidence. I'm not saying 4% is correct, but nothing you've said has any meaning to the discussion. - walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -12/+22@darksquirrel & bryxal
Salgat is completely right. The whole reason sony delayed the european launch is because they knew they were way short on unit production for the US and japan so they delayed the PS3 launch in europe to be able to stockpile units and meet demand. Kind of ironic though that 6 months later here and in japan they are in full supply in many stores now that they ran through their hardcore market base and ebayers who failed to turn a profit. - chadwn, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18"'I'm guessing the Xbox 360 would have sold just as many PS3's " ... leave guessing to GO-Fish.
- jon61575, on 10/12/2007, -18/+27You can't even compare the opening two days of the Xbox 360 and the opening two days of the PS3 launch in Europe. The Xbox 360 launched in Europe and U.S. at the same time and there were not enough units. The PS3 launch in Europe was delayed 4 months from the U.S. launch so they had more units available. I'm guessing the Xbox 360 would have sold just as many PS3's in the first two days had there been enough units.
There were two different launch strategies, and you can't just compare 2 days. - Zamfir, on 10/12/2007, -13/+22Can't wait for the negative spin on this! How twisted can you guys make this?
- chadwn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15the launched Xbox 360 failure rate was much higher then 4% ... of course I am assuming this but when everyone that you know who got one at launch ended up bricking you tend to think that failure rate is higher. It is not like Microsoft would release that stat.
- WazzaInc, on 10/12/2007, -21/+29Wow I wasnt expecting this. Sony may be able to do a comeback afterall.
- Lufy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Ok, I'm French and i bought the wii in december and so the ps3 last week with resistance fall of man !!!
So i'm happy i'm not the only one after all the bad news.I love the Ps3, it's a very powerfull system.
Why such a sucess in france? I think "Playstation" is a very strong gaming brand in france ( more than wii, and xbox still be the bill gates console ). I think once again sony can't lose french gamers... - sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -24/+32BREAKING NEWS: France surrenders to Sony marketing blitz!
- lakuma, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Since November....I thought you should know by now that it's "Blu-Ray" not "Blue-Ray"!
btw..I'm a proud owner of a PS3 and I love it. - DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -28/+36I logged in simply to digg your comment up.
That was the best comment I've ever read on digg. Well done. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10My 360 didn't "brick" but it started having problems 3 weeks in. Sure it was still under warranty but I want a product that I don't have to send it in! I'd rather have it not break then have to send it in.
And as for why they didn't learn from us that the PS3 is a bad product? Because the PS3 isn't a bad product. Doesn't have the games yet, but it sure is a better built machine than the 360. - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Apparently you missed the article too, because the beer promotions were done in Australia and NZ. Which, last I checked, weren't a part of Europe.
- tiraid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Steak is better than chicken.
- crzdmn, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15Just a reminder, selling the PS3 isn't winning to Sony, to Sony the win is selling blue-ray the PS3 is just a portal to do that.
PS3 Owner since November, and I'm still loving it. - cwilli14, on 10/12/2007, -11/+18summary of all comments:
thumbs up: the wii could have done better!
thumbs down: Any pro ps3 comments. - Binto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Flow *is* a pretty good "game"....I'm jus' sayin.
- Proximity, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9He's not *writing* the articles dude.
- yonman14, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10@chadwn
Your logic is the exact reason why we need scientific studies. Let me explain. In your described situation, "everyone that you know who got one at launch ended up bricking." This is only the way the situation appears. In reality a rumor was spread that everyone's Xbox is bricking. So whenever someone had ANY problem with their machine they would complain about it "bricking." People then repeat to everyone they know that their friend's box "bricked." This creats the appearence of "everyone that you know who got one at launch ended up bricking." - thumperings, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5To read Digg lately I thought playStation 3's failure was a done deal. You idiots said that ps3 was the biggest flop in history, and because i dont give ***** with all the real issues in the world to worry about, I beleived you. What a bunch of ninnies.
- vegasbright, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7"I dont want to go to Aspen Harry, the french are *****"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4PS3 kills 360 when will u people learn 360 is old news
- epicdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i second that..
and... bury me too for self fulfilling reasons.. - bangbangblah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4but they did in New Zealand!
- tault, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well in a few days we are going to see the sales charts for march and see how the PS3 actually did world wide. I think that will prove how well its doing.
- gopher043, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well Whoopideedoo.
Well at least the next gen game of Frogger with a motion sensing beret and a coupon for free croissants will sell well to the Frenchies. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4
So the PS3 sets launch records in the UK and France and all the idiots that doubted the the Playstation branding in Europe say that it doesn't count because the 360 and Wii were unit constrained. Not only is this a pathetic and disgusting excuse, but it indicates the depth these 360 and Wii fanboys will go to discredit this monumental achievement. The 360 is a failure in Japan and Europe. Microsoft should concentrate on the North American market because it's only a matter of time before they're surpassed in this region. And with 3 SKU's and a SKU priced in the same ballpark as the PS3, they're making it easier and easier.
Sony should send the most 'Elite' beer brewed in North America to Redmond as a thank you. - tiraid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lufy,
I don't know how to say this without it sounding like a leading question, but I don't want a lead answer, so please try to be open about it.
Aren't you upset with Sony for the way it has been treating it's customers lately, especially Europeans, who always liked Sony more than the US has(at least on the surface), yet the US got the PS3 first? I think that is where must of the negativity on these forums comes from. - MaynardJK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I am going to digg down every comment I see of yours until you quit signing off with "Next Gen FTW".
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7If you look at the big picture, releasing earlier definitely WASN'T a mistake for MS or Nintendo.
- raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11...None of the comments for this article are making much sense to me.
All I can say is, why didn't the Europeans learn from the rest of us that the PS3 isn't an excellent system? - imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6that's why they're not opening their arms
- 1337pino, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Why don't we just wait a couple weeks until things die down and then see how things are going for the PS3. I remember it being so hyped (here in the U.S. during its launch) by mainstream analysts that weren't even gamers or the types of people that would buy a PS3. Now look. All of those PS3's on ebay that were tagged well over $1,500 lost their sellers a lot of money when no one answered.
- Ub3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Why am I being dug down? Its a serious question. The system isn't really popular in Japan or the US, but seems to have a decent following in the UK and EU. I want to know why this might be, preferably from the point of view from someone who actually lives there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9I would have set the subject of the article to:
"FRANCE SURRENDERS TO SONY PS3!" - Zoids, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Because it's a decent system that show promise.
(UK PS3 owner) - OMEN3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sony loves go use Enron-style numbers. Look at their PS2 counts - They're all units shipped. I'm on my 4th, and I only had to pay for 2 (2 died in-warranty, and I'm waiting for the third to go); Do I count as 4 units sold? No, I count at half that.
Every replacement console is portrayed as a sold unit by Sony. Look at Nintendo's and Microsoft's literature; Sold units are counted. Shipped unit numerics are used to inflate market share data.
Remember: the PSP killed the DS too, according to Sony in the beginning, but it was stockpile-and sell to fanboys only . . . The DS has outsold the PSP. Even counting the phony replacement numbers related to PSP screen issues at launch. - ChrisWickenscom, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7This will probably be compared to the end of the world somehow.
Or they will relate it to being the main cause of starvation, unemployment, bush being a moron, the war in iraq...I think the list is endless... - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is actually pretty easy to spin. Here's my go at it:
Of course they break sales records if they delay the launch by six months and finally launch with a record number of units, new consoles always selling through their initial shipments in a day or two. The European launch was actually a disaster for Sony because they already filled their entire initial demand (there are still plenty of PS3s available everywhere), while the Wii is still sold out everywhere on the globe. -
