- Ammattiki, on 10/12/2007, -5/+49"Note: Actual PS1 discs will be playable at launch."
- theone3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+37They HAVE emulated the PS1, all games on disc will work, they simply have not got it functioning with their download service yet. I hate to say this, because I hate people who say this, but RTFA.
And to make it perfectly clear, here's a quote from the article's source: " Of course, actual PS1 and PS2 games (not downloaded) will play on the PS3 right from the start." - sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+38LOL.
Obviously it's talking about the Downloadable PS1 games catalogue.
Way to spread FUD people.
No self-respecting destructive fanboy will read the footnote. - Dakoman, on 10/12/2007, -20/+51apparently its too hard to get a 3.2Ghz processor to emulate a 34Mhz processor
- Mejogid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Er... the article maybe?
- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16You misunderstood. First off, Sony will be selling DOWNLOADS of PS1 games that will run on the PSP AS WELL AS THE PS3 (meaning you don't have to buy the same game twice to play it on your psp and ps3). Second off, Phil said that you will be able to play PS1 games but only at the PSP at the moment because PS3 doesn't have the functionality (yet) to play DOWNLOADED PS1 games. Third off, he said that by December 2006, the functionality should be avaliable on the PS3.
Do I need to emphasize everything for you? - tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Well with ***** like you spreading this kind of crap, it's really no suprise now is it?
- steverl22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Nice title you got up there.......mislead much?
- NerveBand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Digg this guy (ammattiki) up. Phil was talking about (in the article) regarding to DOWNLOADS of PS1 games. Those won't be avaliable until the end of the year. However, PS1 disks will play fine (I Hope)
- CMiYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12From the article: "Note: Actual PS1 discs will be playable at launch."
This only applies to downloadable content. - aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13>>Great, what happened to FULL backward compatability?
Joystiq is a bit misleading (no suprise there).
The 1Up article it cites says it's 100% backwards compatible for PS1/PS2 games, this is talking about downloadable "virtual console" PS1 games from the Playstation store NOT backwards compatibility.
Also, the original article mentions the PS3 will get the emulation software for the DL games shortly after launch. - joeh, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Yes, if you read the article, it says actual PS1 discs are playable on the PS3 - it's only the downloadable titles that will not be initially playable - but will after a patch to be released some time after launch.
- xymor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+135000 PS1 games and 8000 ps2 games, I'm sure there's something still worth playing.
- tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Back to your corner FUD boy.
- kylesellers, on 10/12/2007, -30/+40Great, what happened to FULL backward compatability?
- inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Well it runs Yellowdog linux..... Every Emulators will work out of the box with this.
- CMiYC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Marked article as inaccurate.
- tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -18/+25So let me get this straight... you are complaining that Phil Harrison has been honest and told you that the PS3 currently doesn't have the software required to play PS1 games (BTW it still does for the PS2 emulation), but a patch will be available soon?
Are you seriously complaining about this? THERE IS A PATCH COMING.... did you all get that? Good. Now move along. - triplehelix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7sony already did that. there are ps1 and ps2 chips in the ps3. thats why you'll have no problem playing ps1 and ps2 disks right away.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Source?"
Now this is funny and standard Digg practice at the moment. User brianpinard dugg the article and has proceeded to spout untruths and opinions that can only be formed by not reading the article at all.
This is why Digg clearly doesn't work and I believe to be a fad until they fix it. I think the whole gaming issue was nothing to compared to this kind of nonsense. - aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7>>whats wrong with it, the ps1 catolgue wont be yet playable on the ps3 as of launch
>>how is the title misleading
Seems to have mislead you. . . - NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10"Well considering there aren't really any good games coming out for the PS3 at launch unlike the Wii"
Odd, Wii has no good launch games except for Zelda.
PS3 has far more GOOD games than wii - tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's a modified PS1 game in the form of a ROM. Therefore it needs a different loader. That loader is the one coming for PSP first.
- randomvictim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yes. They said it would have full backwards compatibility, and it does.
- boyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Actually the PS1 emulation is done in software, same as the PS1 emulation in the slimline PS2.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ahhh, some new FUD for today. I thought it used to be lame for a console to rely on backwards compatability to sell. Now it's an essential feature?
Anyway, this is such a non issue as it will have the capability shortly after launch anyway. Burried. - boyter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Because they havent provided emulation for downloaded games yet? Normal emulation works fine. Chuck in any disk and you are fine. The only people who will care are those looking to download games and they can download the update when it comes anyway.
Sony at least came clean on it. They could have just said we dont have the service for games yet and nobody would have known. Nice to see them come clean. - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4all ps1 and ps2 discs will play on the ps3. christ, this is exactly what the innacurate button is for but the people here will digg this blindly because they hate sony. good job.
- aegis9975, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5OP should have linked to the original 1Up article instead of Joystiq. The article itself is very misleading compared tot he original source. Joystiq makes it sound like it has something to do with backwards compatibility of PS1 games, which it doesn't/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Buried
- IcerC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4innacurate.
You can play ps games not downloadable ones yet. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6"Has Sony EVER said anything that was TRUE????"
Have any Digg anti-Sony articles EVER been anything other than a misrepresentation of the TRUTH????
WTF? - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Totally agree. And, if anything, all these negative articles are actually bringing Sony to everyone's attention, and likely will increase sales more than anything.
There really is no such thing as bad publicity, because only a fool would take the word of some internet morons seriously. - inkubux, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Final Fantasy 7 anyone... I do play it
- hakz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4who gives a crap? does anyone actually play ps1 games anymore???
If I do buy this (probably won't) I know I won't lose any sleep over this - chad3405, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Does anyone actually care about backwards compatibility anymore? You buy a new system to play NEW games. When a new system comes out you don't just throw away your old systems, unless they are broken (PS2).
- tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9@Dihuko maybe you should take another look, but first take off those Nintendo Rose glasses you have on.
- endekks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh yeah... And let's make sure to turn a blind eye to the fact that a patch to play the DOWNLOADABLE versions of PS1 games (of which no one currently has in their catalogue) will possibly be playable by year's end – or that actual PS1 discs (the only way people can have PS1 games in their catalogue) will playable from day one.
So I would say that the presentation of this is pretty inaccurate.
Ignorance and anti-Sony remarks FTW! - endekks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah... We need to totally take Sony to task for not having PS1 games – games from 2 generations and as much as over one decade ago – working on the PS3 before it even launches. I mean, how terrible it is that we can't access our vast PS1 library which we ALL keep handy since we know EVERYONE still plays their PS1 games all the time – or that we are going to be limited to playing a good deal of them right away on a handheld. My life just won't be complete until I can play Battle Arena Toshinden on my PS3 – or Kileak, or Ace Combat 1... stellar titles I can't live without to this day.
After all, MS is doing such a stellar job with its backwards compatibility of Xbox games on the 360, right? I love how I can play all my favourite games like Jet Set Radio, Prince of Persia: Two Thrones – wait... Oops. I can't. Or how I can play Half-Life 2 and others with not issues or crashing whatsoever – wait... Oops. I can't. And then there is the awesome portable gameplay I get with my favourite Xbox games on the MS portable gaming device, too – wait... Oops. I can't.
This is just more anti-Sony BS. One would think with everyone bitching about how this and that are so "two weeks ago" that this tired routine would have met the same response some time ago. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Inaccurate. You can insert a PS1 game and play it on day 1. You just can't buy them online yet. Buried.
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -26/+29@WhereAmI
Yeah, but Microsoft wasn't parading around saying how they WOULD have full backwards computability and Sony has touted that as a massive "We're so better."
"Idiot." - Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1if you cant download them, how can you play them, it does not matter if they are physcally playable if you cannot get them on there
thus, at launch noone will be playing them because they cant, thus they are unplayable - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@NeoTenchi: nah, not really. Most of their solid launch titles are already out for the 360. That is, you could buy a 360 and use the ~$300 you'd save to buy all of those good games.
Basically Resistance is the only good non-port in the PS3 launch. And it doesn't look "five hundred and ninety-nine US dollars" good to me. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4"Is Sony _trying_ to give away the console market?"
No, hundreds of morons like you are just trying to imagine the scenario so hard you start to believe it. It's NOT news, so go piss off back to oggling at the nintendo box art articles. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dude, you totally missed my sarcasm. Haha. Re-read my post with the fact that it is sarcastic in mind. I'm on Sony's side on this and have a PS3 on pre-order if it helps :)
- tommybear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"...because it's a feature Nintendo now provides. So now it seems like a must-have to their blind followers. By the same token, this is why graphical capabilities are suddenly a totally unimportant aspect of games consoles."
Sorry???? Was GameCube backwards compatible with anything? How is Sony following Nintendo exactly. The PS2 was backward compatible with the PS1. The PS3 is a new architecture. The Wii is a GameCube x 1.5, so it's not hard to play have backwards compatibility on that console.
Give Sony some credit please. - terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, uh, if you *download* a PS1 ISO, why can't you just mount it and play it using the same hardware/software that lets you play a physical disc. It's the same data either way, right?
Oh, I figured it out. This is a DRM thing, isn't it! - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+9It's called "insecure Wii-tards".
- RyanSilva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Sad, the people are taking this ***** the wrong way.
http://www.gtaboards.net - Dihuko, on 10/12/2007, -18/+18Well considering there aren't really any good games coming out for the PS3 at launch unlike the Wii, I would imagine people would play their PS2/PS1 games on especially considering we have major releases like Final Fantasy XII coming out right before the launch of the PS3.
