PHOTO: Stack of (7) PS3's at BestBuy not being sold

flickr.com — My brother sent me this from his phone at a BestBuy in Broomfield, Colorado. He was amazed to see a whole cage of 60gb PS3s just sitting there. He said that he saw several people walking around with Xbox360s and playing the Wii, nobody seemed to even notice that they were there, or more accurately nobody cared.

We also get at least 1 returned a day, probably from people that could make money off it. I think the people that want it don't want to deal with trying to fine one or are waiting for better games.

  • ptcfast2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12The thing is the PS3 is not a "great" multimedia device. They tried to attack all the aspects like you said, and they failed miserably. The Wii excels at what it was meant to do. The PS3 is the exact opposite.

  • inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I find that diggers are very logical when it comes to things they wish to defend, and downright ***** retarded when it comes to things they want to flame. Let's look at the situation very closely:

    1. The PS3 has been out for a month. Of course it's not going to have sold as many units as the XBox 360. Yes, more Wiis have been sold, but Nintendo also shipped more (which was a very awesome move on their part.) The fact that the PS3 has been out for only month is also the OBVIOUS ***** reason why the game library is nowhere near being on par with the 360. ***** duh.

    2. PS3 not going on ebay for a ridiculous profit doesn't mean no one wants the system. They are all still selling on ebay.. for retail value. What this means is that the Christmas rush is over, and the idiots that wanted to spend $1500 to get little Johnny a PS3 for Christmas are no longer around to buy them.

    3. The PS3 hasn't "failed". It's life has just started. Give it at least 6-8 months to release some killer apps, lower the price, etc. before declaring that "it failed.

  • Dou6, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7After owning ps1 ps2 and now psp, I say never again sony. The PSP made me anti sony as they have completely killed its potential by being to petty and greedy. The PS3 is more of the same to me. Ever since experiencing XB1 & 360 + live, I say NEVER AGAIN Sony!!

    That said, these posts with pics of a few PS3's unsold are just silly.

  • Dolomite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I saw a couple PS3 scalpers waiting in line to return their units at Best Buy today. One guy was really pissed, he waited in line all day to get a PS3 and couldnt sell it on eBay, then when he came back to the store he had to wait in a long line again to return it.
  • gravelocity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Let's face it, Sony released way too soon. I think that game makers will lean towards the 360 and Wii because of the lack of coverage by the PS3. Who wants to spend $600 on a machine that has only a few titles most of which suck. Oh and by the way the graphics for the backwards compatibility are actually worse than the original PS1 and 2, there are videos on youtube that show it. I know that they lose money on each unit sold which is a huge gamble seeing how fast Microsoft release the 360 in relationship to the first XBOX. I hope Nintendo keeps the family market and 360 gets the hardcore gamers. Does anyone out there want to spend $600-$800 each year on the newest thing?

    MY Best Buy got a shipment of 8 or 10 of them in, and all of them were gone in about... 30 seconds. Same with the Wal-Mart right down the street from Best Buy. Always sold out.

  • tibor42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The reason why this matters is Sony shipped less than half of the PS3's they had projected and supply is still exceeding demand. Even if it is one example, this shouldn't be happening at any store if Sony wants to stay competitive.

    Sony was making about 100,000 a week. And stores were getting about 6 a week (around here). Suddenly, in the last week before Xmas, 30 or more start showing up in stores.

    Do the math, Sony shipped a lot of units. Calling it a failure is ridiculous. It sold better than 360 did last year in the markets it was released in. And this despite and even more ridiculous price.

    360s are not selling like crazy. Considering how important Gears of War's release was, 360 sales are very poor. It may even have come behind the PS3 in units sales in December. It definitely came in behind in revenue (dollar sales). That makes it 3rd best next-gen console in dollar sales in December, and 3rd or maybe 2nd in unit sales. That is not "selling like crazy".

  • krische, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed. I have a PS3 and I love it. All of my friends that have played mine say it is great. I have a launch day unit and not one problem. The day I got it, everybody on my dorm floor played it for 8 hours straight. The thing just sat there quiet as can be no hotter than 30 minutes into playing.
  • Aeiri, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2BestBuy doesn't, but my local EB Games allows you to play the Wii. To prevent theft of the remote, they require you trade in your driver's license to play.

    Pretty smart idea, I thought.
