PHOTOS: 4 stories of Donkey Kong, made from 6,400 Post-Its!
soe.ucsc.edu — Check this out! Late Sunday night, a group of UC Santa Cruz students came together at the Engineering 2 building to recreate a level of Donkey Kong on four stories of windows made out of Post-Its. Complete with oil barrels, rolling barrels, ladders, Mario, Penelope, and of course, Donkey Kong!

- chicken101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5They did an excellent job as well.
- El-Taco, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27i deliver pizza to that building almost every week. the office workers on the first floor tip well the students up top however dont, i havent seen this yet i will for sure check it out next time im at e2.
- blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4That's freaking awesome...not much else I can say..
- JasonMaloney101, on 10/12/2007, -26/+6but will it blend?
- Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19That's more impressive than most of the crap that gets passed off as modern art in NYC's MoMA.
I wish they didn't have to take it down by May 1st. It looks so damn awesome. - EyewitBass, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1best idea ever
- garfonzo, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3what poor sap has to take them all down?
- garfonzo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1btw, that is awesome!!
- sirgolf82, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26http://www.yikes.com/~pengo/8bit/
Mario was previously done on the same building.- stratdog25, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2http://www.blinkenlights.de/arcade/index.en.html A bit off topic, but the Chaos Computer Club turned an entire building into a grayscale monitor that showed gifs and jpegs, and you could play tetris on it with you cell phone. very cool indeed. The Donkey Kong is definately original too.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5donkey kong is the number 3 game of all time with 65,000 units sold? Remind me to double check that engineers math.
- Xelseragoth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+143rd most popular arcade game, and since only arcades tend to buy arcade cabinets, that is saying a lot.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I figured console ports were counted in the generic term "units"
- elvirafang, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0The name sounds interesting. From where did he get it?
- billflu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Even better than Rasterbating.
- Flashman, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1Excellent prank!
- fuzzboxer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16It's not a prank. It was a sanctioned event to promote the Game Design major.
- Morphinity, on 10/12/2007, -2/+38I think the game's frozen. :(
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Quick, blow on the board!
- jamlarso, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2so good yet so so sad...
- Heiliger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I don't know who Penelope is, but good for Pauline for finding a stand-in!
- LotusStarscream, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why digg him down? It is Pauline.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Pauline got kidnapped by a giant ape then put in a giant pinball machine... and what does Mario do? Runs off with Princess Toadstool in the Mushroom Kingdom (while briefly having an affair with Princess Daisy in Sarasaland).
- JeffreyAtW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Whoops. You know, I noticed that after I submitted the story, but I also had some false idea that she was named Penelope in one or two other things. Oh well!
- getliquified, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1awesome!
- pitfallharry, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1That is awesome.
But when are they gonna get around to some other classic games, like... ahem... Activision's original Pitfall... - pitfallharry, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1So when are they gonna get around to other classics like Activision's original... ahem... Pitfall...
- LonesomeFighter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Why must people keep saying "cool" or "amazing" when they can clearly see the person before them got buried for it? If it is "cool" or "amazing" then digg the story and it's pictures. That's all that is needed.
- snowpatrol, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Awesome!
- staffell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1why do you care? what a waste of a post.....just like this one really.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Inspired by " http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/2003/vidwall_postits/ "
Sadly, "The art was taken down by 10am". I would've left trogdor there all day, so they were without the media screen for a day? Big whoop. Those guys are uncool for taking it down so early =(- MrMegaBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wicked :)
- lexington86, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I was at a party (read: drunkfest) a couple summers ago where the guys turned their staircase into a "donkey-kong" game by rolling empty kegs down the stairs and trying to jump over them as they hurtled down. Needless to say... the keg usually won.
- Ulvund, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Don't tell me what to read
- lexington86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Ulvund
(read: okay!)
- MrLeEx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow i should do this to my uni :D
- vinht426, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1damnit! i visited my gf this weekend, we should have dropped by the campus before i had to leave on monday.. and now she gets to see this without me... noooo
- ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11That isn't all she's seeing without you.
- Truckasaurus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah i was there too this weekend, but I wanted to get drunk instead of visiting the old campus.
- antifolkhero, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Go slugs! That's my alma mater.
- Ek0nomik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0That is *****' gorgeous. I love wood grain on my gaming system.
- pumpedvideo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Can't we have fun without wasting anything?
- BOFH139, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can Anybody tell me where you can get "Black" Post-Its?
- inio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5We found them at Palace Arts, a local arts supply store. They had two dark colors, the dark red we used (and bought all six packs they had), and a dark blue color (that they had like 20 packs of).
- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Gotta love Palace...except for their prices.
- Velguard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was planning on making a smaller one of these for my room. A Mega Man one (21 x 23 pixels) would take up a 5' 3" by 5' 9" area, but I may have difficulty finding black post it's like you said. Simon Belmont doesn't require any black post its though, so I may just make him.
- Brierleyjl12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Somehow i thought it would be more exciting.
- sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seeing it in person is a lot cooler.
- scallon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont know about the rest of you. A lot of you probably have more office supplies experience, but i thought 14000 post it notes would make a much larger pile. I was dissapointed.
- hyjkim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn, they just put these up yesterday. Digg is quick to pounce on post-it murals.
- dvsbastard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Good idea and great execution! :)
- edolfo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So what does it mean if I found out about this on Digg before I went to look at it, and I live on campus?
- lexington86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Perhaps your body has mutated and become one with your computer chair?
- Alex76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amazing what people do when they have lots of time to kill...
- Jdban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I saw this today at the UCSC Engineering open house. It was pretty awesome. I love UCSC!
