- Web_Weasel, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21I remember actually caring about when the new games came out. Most of the list is sequels and "me too!" knock offs.
Besides that, now you have to make sure there isn't bundled malware like StarForce before you buy. - PokySharpy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Oblivion is the greatest computer game ever. I'm dead serious. It has dethroned Baldur's Gate 2, KOTOR, and Half-Life 2 atop my all-time list.
All you really need is Oblivion. The rest of the games on that list are gravy. =) - LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23Notice how almost all of them have to do with war.
what is this world coming to...
lol im such a hypocrite i like war games :P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19With games like 'Oblivion' and a World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade to Half-life 2: Episode 1, and Battlefield 2142, you can tell this is going to be a great year. Ther graphics on some of these games are amazing.
- gnalakalaciath5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12don't let StarForce hear you say that; they might call the FBI on you.
- ronintetsuro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It's funny, that's what I was thinking. It's either war, or economic/socail structure planning.
Prepping young minds for battle/reconstruction queues? - quentinp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Amen to that, Oblivion is literally the best RPG I have played in 15-20 years of gaming. A few UI tweaks on the PC version would be nice, but really just wow...
Okay put it this way: I've always been obssessed with levelling and loot in these games, but in Oblivion i've been playing quests because I am actually interested in them and want to see what happens. (Phat lewtz are a bonus heh) - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9That means we need to upgrade our computers again. :P We have expensive hobbies. [grin]
- fishindiesea, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8SPORE is gonna be a runaway hit IMO. very nice lineup of strategy games, but SPORE is the kind of game that will "suck you in" similar to the effect that The Sims had when it came out.
very exciting stuff! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7What? I thought Duke Nukem was bundled with The Phantom game console.
- metaphysical, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Tip: Avoid using the word "wow" when writing about video games. It's confusing, man.
- vinny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Actually, if history is any indication, many of these will be available on OS X:
StarWars: Empire at War
SIMS2: Open for Business
Rise of Legends
Sid Meier's Railroads!
Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War
Caesar IV
Civilization 4: Warlords
Black and White2 : Battle of the Gods
Hellgate: London
World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade
NeverWinterNights2
Titan Quest
Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising
And probably others, especially since Macs now use the same architecture. - afractus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i didn't see duke nukem on the list... very highly anticipated soon haha :-D
- DarkEnder, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Oblivion is ok, but it didn't seem to come out as well as people said it would. I bought both Oblivion and Beyond Good and Evil last weekend; I've played oblivion for an hour so far, and Beyond Good and Evil three times as long.
- koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4People, Beyond Good and Evil really is a good game -- it wasn't successful, but it was damned good. Its marketing wasn't good, and people think of it as the "photography game", when it really has quite a bit of depth. Please mod darkender _up_.
- SAOSiN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Sad to say but I think Duke Nukem is vaporware :(
If they pull it out...I'll love it. - HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Agreed, Oblivion is AWESOME.
Of course, like any RPG, you have to play it for a little while to get into it. (No, an hour isn't sufficient.)
Graphics = awesome, gameplay = awesome, physics = awesome, and storyline = awesome.
In my opinion, this is the first game in years to live up to its hype.
Remember though, I am talking about the PC version. The idea of playing this game on a controller makes me cringe. - TheWalkerman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So much for the PC being a dead gaming platform!
- phrak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Behold Maleficus's amazing ability to judge unreleased games before anyone can play them! Be amazed by his countless generalizations and assumptions!
If there aren't any games on that list that you can look forward to, then you've become jaded and are probably one of those people that swear video gaming perfection was achieved with Super Mario Brothers 3. - fifrenzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3excuse me while i buy another gig of ram to display this page
- spyrochaete, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Why does every new game have to be original? Is there only one book in the science fiction section in bookstores? What's wrong with making better and better versions of RTS games? People like them, people play them, and most importantly, people buy them. If you don't like it vote with your dollar.
And I like how the title of this submission is "PC Games to be released in 2006" and yet you say no digg because the list doesn't have what you want on it. Will you not digg a report on an election if your candidate loses? News is news whether you like it or not, pal. - paulchu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3anyone else realize that thread was first made in 2005?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Operation Flashpoint 2! FINALLY! The first game has to be the single greatest war game ever made. There's just something amazingly cool about being able to edit a complete modern combat situation exactly the way you want, with entire platoons of troops, all sorts of vehicles, helicopters dropping in re-inforcements, and then putting yourself right in the middle of it... Such a great implementation of a map editor. The sequel should be even better.
- GuyNextDoor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seriously...if I judged oblivion by the first hour I played it, I would still be trying to escape from the dungeon, or perhaps even stuck on the character creation screen. One hour is not going to tell you jack squat about Oblivion. Even after you pick your jaw up off the floor when you first step outside, the game still isn't awesome (heck, it's only one vista). But slowly and surely as you suck in each view, quest, swing of your sword, sunset, thunderstorm, and bashing of a demon over the head with a giant hammer...you suddenly realize the game has sucked you in like a black hole.
I must say too, that the graphics are so fantastic, they become transparent and "one" with the gameplay; which is probably the greatest testament to it's beauty. And no, I don't get these vistas by going outside either :-) - takes too much in gas these days. - NeilM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is an amazing list! I can't wait until I get my new PC!
- Sailsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree as well. Oblivion is the best and most addictive RPG I have played in a long time. It does an excellent job of sucking you into the game through a tutorial which is engaging while teaching you the basics. The story is engaging but there are countless distractions and quests that you actually want to perform because they are so cool. And the first time you run through the woods chasing a deer is amazing, the grass and shrubs brushing around you and the realistic trees overhead. If you are a fan of any type of RPG and want to experience an engaging, gorgeous, and addictive game then you have to try Oblivion.
- swifty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't help but to feel just a little overwhelmed with the vast number of great games coming out for the PC this year.
One title that caught my eye was Hellgate: London. For those of you who may have over looked it, it is an RPG from the makers of the Diablo series. *note* Blizzard is not behind this, but rather Flagship Studios which is comprised of David Brevik, Bill Roper, Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, Kenneth Williams, Dave Glen, Peter Hu, Phil Shenk, and Tyler Thompson... among others. Those true fans of the series should definitely recognize some of those names. Can't want to see how this game turns out! - CatFood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Did anyone see the Battlestar Galactica game ?!?!?! That's amazing!
- Trenton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2People less fortunate, and I still am waiting for FiOS to come in where I am! >_>
I need FiOS, I'm tired of using charter 5mbit. Please if verizon is reading this (verizon or comcast) put fios in Minneapolis metro. - kickarse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They all seem just about the same...
Spore is my this year highlight I think... - MasterDwarf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3First: How many will actually make 06 launch dates?
Second: How many will score above a 7 on a scale from 1-10? - yuutomo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3and how many will come with Starforce or someother damaging C.R.A.P. ??
- chimona, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm pretty sure its confirmed for release this year, its been vaporware for so long though.
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah but lots of these are indie title follow ups... and the best one to look foward to is alan wake!!
- KyleRayner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Really. There's quite a few FPS games Im looking forward to this year that have nothing to do with WWII, and most certainly do not have "lame" engines. Prey and UT2007 just to name a couple.
- ultimate_ed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Alas, I'm still waiting for an X-win 2.0 or Tie Fighter 2.0. I'd love to be able to play through those missions with a modern graphics engine (i.e. one that could support a Super Star Destroyer in game)
I fear I'll be waiting a long time. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"From people who left Stormregion(where they made Panzers, 8.8 at GS) and joined Mithis(who made Nexus, 8.3 at GS)."
Really tells a lot about the game, doesn't it? - dbzer0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm gonna cry. I barely have time for a game now and then and now I want to play 30
- Trenton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is really impressive, I am still wondering how they did it. I am glad I paid for my 5mbps connection if I was on dsl or something I think I would be having a heart attack. I was a bit disappointed in some of the releases that were suppose to come out, maybe I should stick with my xbox games with the news 360 and all. I am also greatful that I upgraded my pc and I think i'll be able to actually play some of these games.
StarWars: Empire at War looked like a good game to play if you really like starwars, and I don't, but I think I might want to get it. I also play Rise of Nations currently and that Rise of Legends game by "Big Huge Games" looks very interesting, once I get the money I probably will purchase a copy of it.
Overall this is a great site, you definantly have my digg. I am still very impressed by the effort that had to be put out by this. - johndi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm too old, I remember when 1200 baud was amazing!
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not so sure Battlefield 2142 is going to be that great.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Omg! Awesome list! Whoever made the list deserves a pat on the back. Can't wait for spore...(and alot of the other games, thay all look amazing!)
- MoFoKeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1still waiting for the ultimate fps game where you can actually do damage to your surroundings like when a grenade xplodes on the other side of the wall or a at4 misses and takes out a wall stuff like that..noticible damage that is random depending on what angle the exoplosion or fire comes from make it more alive including flying arms and heads exploding from a sniper round.....close enuff to reality....you know what i mean..its just a game still just like on soldier of fortune when u got hit by a shotgun at close range it left some real damage you could watch a little extra and no im not blood an gut hungry just want more change
- MoFoKeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ProjectOffset that sounds interesting for fps fans like me maybe "gunz" i gotta check that out,GhostRecon:Advanced Warfighter
- Woknblues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1crysis looks great, but DX10 is about three years away for me and my GPU... I guess I'll have to hear all about it.....i hope bf2142 has less bugs.... gameplay looks great. and the new patch 1.21 is working for me now, finally... whew.
- gnatinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, very complete list. Even some indie games are listed!
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1duke nukem forever?
- rmdl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hahaha, look at all those MMOs.
I don't know a better way to spell "failure". - koregaonpark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah! A new Sims2 expansion and Desperados 2! Woohoo baby! B&W2 Battle Of The Gods looks pretty awesome too. And Broken Sword 4! Dude, I'm so gonna love 06!
- Pentarix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rise of Legends is supposedly awesome, lots of great games on that list!
