*slaps head*
You just don't get it.
The only way to play this game is on the PC where it BELONGS - rickremixx, on 10/10/2007, -8/+52i am looking forward more to this than i was halo 3
half life kicks halo's ass
TFC forever !!!! - Gadren, on 10/10/2007, -2/+39I got the Orange Box over Steam, and I love it. I had never gotten around to playing HL2, so this was a great value for me. Currently I'm running scared i n Ravenholm, having great fun in TF2, and eagerly anticipating Portal.
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -2/+33TF2 is just ***** amazing.
- logicalnoise, on 10/10/2007, -2/+32so when can I preload portal and episode 2?
- frostyfrog, on 10/10/2007, -13/+42Orange Box is definitely a tough one to beat in terms of raw value, definitely something that will one occupied for months and months. And the achievement whore in me is loving the 99 achievements on the Xbox 360 version .
- SlamShut, on 10/10/2007, -7/+35It's boner time.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24The PC version has achievements, too.
- ArmchairAthlete, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24You forgot Peggle Extreme. How could you forget Peggle Extreme?
- Mossman85, on 10/10/2007, -7/+28PC Gamer gave it a 94%. Episode Two features six hours of gameplay. That's more than Halo 3's entire single player!)
- Rfriaz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22No. Not now, actually.
- hotdamn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+24They finally get to play BioShock!
- PATSCRU, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21Not to gloat or anything, but i've been playing TF2 since last week, and it's amazing. If you preorder from the Valve website you can install TF2, HL2, HL2 EP 1 and Lost coast and you can preload Episode two and portal. Veeeery nice.
- Nobiting, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20The Source Engine was programmed with longevity in mind, It's not even at a peak yet.
- DeadPain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+17You are getting HL2 and Episode 1 for free, you pay for Episode 2, Portal and TF2
- Typhoon2009, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19Anyone who wants, I'll have a 'gift' key of HL2 and EP1 for sale...
Seriously, does Valve think I'll actually GIVE AWAY what could be PROFITABLE CAPITAL? - Dracusis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20Valve kicking ass as usual. TF2 is da bomb, unless you're one of those fools that only owns a 360.
- DeadPain, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Valve does sell it separately, it costs $30
- Ludnix, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17Plans for Purple Box are still unknown, though it's rumored to have 7 different versions of Peggle.
- echeese, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Besides, if you preorder, I believe you can give away games you already own as a gift to another person.
- mal5305, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17just dont play ravenholm alone, at night, with headphones on....
i dont think i've ever jumped so high in my life. - juicebag, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13They were planning on making a Black Box that only had HL2:EP2, Portal, and TF2, but they cancelled it.
- ChrisOdaWas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Four years old and Team Fortress 2 kicks the sh*t out of every other game out there (graphics wise). Well done Valve ^^
- swrlyhrly, on 10/10/2007, -5/+17So are we gonna start getting other color's of boxes now? Cause that would be ***** awesome.
- DolphinGL, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Already dropped my $45 on steam and have been happily playing TF2 for a few days now.
Very very very worth it.....and I haven't even played Portal or Ep2 yet. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12That actually turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable.
- Joeshie, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13A single-player and mutli-player experience that beats out Halo 3 all in one package.
Awesome. Too bad it won't sell as much. - Ludnix, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Source engine is constantly updating. See Source SDK Base.
- Slybri, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Between TF2 and UT3 my free time is pwned this winter, just like with the originals. My god..it's 1999 all over again!
- Cl1mh4224rd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Actually, you can't preload Episode 2 or Portal yet...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+11God, TF2 has completely distracted me from everything else. It's so much more awesome than I could possibly have imagined - it's like TFC all over again, but even better. And TFC was one of my favorite games of all time - seriously, for I don't know how long, I couldn't put it down.
- NichowA, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It's always been plenty fast for me... your internet must just suck.
- m00nstone, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9For those of you playing Halo that missed the Team Fortress boat in the late nineties. This game was the bomb! Crossing my fingers for great things.
- fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Except the original plan was to sell Ep2 at a lower cost with TF2 and Portal included.
- FattyCorpuscle, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9My addiction to DOD:source has been cured by my new addiction to TF2. Valve you magnificent bastards. Is it odd that I look forward to losing a map and getting berated by the female announcer and her "you failed!"?
- Orion682, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Agreed. Steam used to be terrible, especially in version 2. But now they've mostly fixed all the broken ***** (a working server browser :o) and Steam Friends/community now works. It's a lot like XBox live, except with better voice quality, and more convenience in the lack of discs.
As for download speeds, depends on when you download. Doing any content downloading for the last week or so would've been a massive pain since people are preloading/downloading TF2, so it'll hose their connection. That said, last night I downloaded the Quake Wars demo in about 15 minutes for 700MB. So yeah, stop using dial-up ;) - jayhawk88, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The fact that TF2 and beer will soon exist in the same universe is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
- BugMeNot2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I'm pretty sure the beta is going on right now as I've already spent 17 hours playing it.
- avisotin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Peggle deluxe, the full game, is only 18mb. Torrent it immediately!
- rejectpenguin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Nah, the Halo series is just a sub par, generic, first person shooter with nothing special about it at all. It breaks no new grounds, has a somewhat cliche storyline, and consists of "shooting baddies" and hitting the use key. I suppose that's "AWESOME OMG WTF BBQ" for console fan boys but for those of us who have been playing fps's for years, its trash.
- penguinshome, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7WTF!? you've got a SLI setup but you won't pay for some RAM, you deserve what you got, a useless pc.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6You're actually getting a good deal - it's actually cheaper to buy the orange box than it would be to buy Episode 2, TF2, and Portal separately.
- Syko3599, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5when you buy the orange box, you automatically download TF2. It just doesn't say beta on it.
- readme, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Pre-load! Pre-load!
- solidsnake1298, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Not to mention it is one of the most efficient engines out. It was originally designed to run on Radeon 9700 and 9800 graphics cards. It played very well on those cards and plays even better on modern cards. The graphics freakin' rock in all Source games, but they always run at 85+ fps. There are games out there that don't have as good graphics and they run much slower.
The Source engine was way ahead of its time when it was first implemented and it is still ahead of the game now. And it is def very upgradeable so it will only improve in the future. - Ellrick, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Every time valve announces a new game its tops on my most anticipated list, and usually statys there for years. Its kind of a bummer its getting console ports, I wish it were just on the pc to help it be a more viable gaming platform these days. But, if it makes Valve money, and keeps them making games, I cant hate too much.
Teaming with EA makes me worried for their souls however. - fantasticFlan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4No, see, Valve chooses how much to charge for each of them. If they charged $30 for Ep2, TF2, and Portal together, that's how much they would cost.
- Modiga, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6VALVe were forced to cancel it, at least on the retail front, because retailers didn't want to stock more than one package for a game. As for Steam, well to be honest they're selling Orange at a price I would be more than happy to pay, even if HL2 and Episode 1 weren't included. Being able to offer them as gifts is a kind bonus.
- Orion682, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5It really isn't that. Halo has just become iconic of what's wrong with the gaming industry. Putting Halo side by side with the classic games that were heralded as truly groundbreaking: System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Half-Life, etc, isn't even a comparison. The story is mediocre at best, the gameplay is generic shooter gameplay, differentiated from Doom only in that you now have vehicles and a recharging shield, and the level design is tired and repetitive.
On co-op, my friend and I had to keep track of what rooms we'd been in in Halo 1 by whether there was blood on the walls. This was great till we got to the area where you first encounter the Flood. We saw the bodies, turned around, figuring we'd already been in that room, and backtracked for a nice chunk of the level.
The problem is that Halo is a step backward, offering little more than mostly mindless gameplay. It's the reason why console gamers were so awed by Bioshock, and why so many PC gamers were disappointed. It was like a throw-back to the glory days of the shooter and gaming, this was true, but we could FEEL how watered down it was. Death had no penalty, there was no inventory management, your character was given so much Adam, even on the path of "good," that you didn't really have to chose what upgrades you wanted, and the storyline, hacking mechanic and characters were just steampunk versions or System Shock 2, except MUCH easier and with a way more transparent story.
In fawning over visual details, we seem to have forgotten what made a game challenging and enjoyable. There was a time I could remember, when you'd be engrossed by a game and its story. In spite of technical limitations, whole worlds were crafted that would draw you to the brink of obsession in unraveling their secrets. Characters had depth, and motivations, and complex relationships with your and one another. And every challenge you overcame was difficult, and your reward was the sensation of being able to overcome it.
Now, it seems to me, we are left with worthless statistics as metrics of our success, simple gameplay with no underlying thought required, and characters that are more 2 dimensional than Paper Mario. It seems that with so much more, we have managed to do so much less... - FoxtrotUSAF, on 10/10/2007, -0/+410/10/07 is fast approaching.
