- buss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16bahaha, my screensaver kicked on during that video.
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15clarification: almost a minute thirty just to get to the main menu screen - he does not piddle with stuff, he goes quickly to create a new season (much like someone who wants to play the long-term aspect of the game would) AND he skips cutscenes the moment they show up, so you can't blame the time on watching the cutscenes. half the time it's not even loading cutscenes, but it's loading god knows what else...total time from bootup to actually beginning to wrestle in the main story mode: 6:28. wowsers.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9PSP = Atari Lynx of 2005....except the Lynx actually had good games on it.
- cyberghost232, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8yeah im tired of my psp. i feel it was a waste of money. i dont even enjoy it. impulse buy. cant even say i bought it for the cool factor. it just aint that great.
- BassCadet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Somebody forward this clip to Ken Kutaragi or whatever that fool's name is.
- misfit410, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Loading....Loading....Loading..Loading.... Battery Dead.....
Ahh, the PSP experience.. Hells Yeah. - heartburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5i cant believe that i just watched that entire thing.
i want at least 4 of my minutes back. - Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow i think i love my ds just a bit more now
- Circuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yup he skips everything he can and still its 6:28, its crazy how sony could let this game be published!
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5And the little PSP kiddies wondered why Nintendo stuck with carts.
(I am boycotting the word fanboy, join in) :P - mastercheif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yea rly, I traded in my DS for a PSP. Worst decescion of my life. I havent found a game I enjoy on the system yet (execpt for Burnout). I traded pack that peice of dunk for a DS, and I couldnt be hapier.
- jermm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Your could watch LOTR:ROTK in the time it takes a psp to load
- WermerSkoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Dugg, just for the music.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Anyone who owns a PSP - how typical is this? What's your average load time between power up and actually playing most games?"
The PSP does have some long load times, but the problem of pick-up-and-go and load times is allieviated by the standby/sleep mode that you can turn on by pulling the power switch up. One time I was playing Twisted Metal on it, put the psp into sleep mode halfway through a match, came back a week later and played through the rest of that match. - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wow, it is more like a "Now Loading" game.
- geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I Dugg this because there was a good point made in the video. Yeah, THQ sucks balls when it comes to developing games, but why doesn't Sony enforce any sort of quality control? It makes the PSP look really, really bad.
- Suruxia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Down with PSP! Just another reason NOT to buy. . .cept for Monster Hunter :D
DS POWER - bonk2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Solution to long load times: Sony should require all developers to play the benny hill theme music during all menus and loading screens to make load times seem shorter. That video would have been impossible to watch if it werent for the music.
- northLite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3senfo said "What does "ftw" mean?"
google ftw - vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd like to see this game in the hands of the Least Patient Kid Ever:
http://www.break.com/index/patiencechild.html - deezp1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Reason #82,164,318 why DS is out selling the PSP 2:1
- sketchstudios, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what the HELL is wrong with these developers???
- elroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you bought a WWF game for the PSP, you deserve a ***** gaming experience
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nintendo should host this video on their site. DS 4tw.
I love the Final Fantasy success trill at the end. - Sniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No, the GAME blows...The PSP is fine, just needs more games (CAPCOM will be releasing a bunch in March).
- Qfwfq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@kkthxbye
The name of the music is 'Yakety Sax' and it was part of the Benny Hill routine when a group of girls chased him - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MOGua:
Yeah, I totally noticed the PSP leaks a lot of power when off. After 3 weeks there's an unusable amount of power left. Even before that you lose a lot of playtime by leaving it switched off. And it's not like it had a surfeit of playtime to start with...
The GBA SP really perfected this. On a rechargeable battery, it still has a ton of playtime left after a month. The DS is almost as good, but really, given how large it is, carrying it around just to use it once a month is kind of a losing proposition anyway.
I don't get those who absolve the PSP here. UMD was a poor choice of storage media for a portable. Power savings on an optical device means you lose tracking after half a second or less of no data transfers. So this game would likely boot just fine on a desktop DVD drive or a hard drive.
It's Sony's fault not to check this and force developers to optimize for the platform I suppose. But when you have as few games worth playing as the PSP has, you can't be too choosy.
Early PS2 and Xbox games have horrific load times too, the development units use hard drives instead of optical drives and so no one notices the poor access characteristics off the native optical drive.
Also, why does saving your game take so long on PSP? The transfer rate on a memory card is at least 1-2MB per second, and they end up saving very small files. Where does all the other time go? - retawd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The song was the best part. The song would stop...
then there would be a pause...
Then...
Saxophone again!
I'm going to have nightmares about the WWE logo and the words Now loading. Seriously, whenever I see those words on any game for a while, I'm gonna giggle just a little. - lukas88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The worst loading time on super nintendo was 2 seconds.
Best system ever! - sfmman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Did anyone notice that the tenths of a second only go to 3 or 4 tenths of a second every time? That would double the time."
The 'tenths-of-a-second' are actually a measure of the frames per second. 29 frames per second. - TexMachina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Anyone who's a fan of pro wrestling deserves this game.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"They don't control the games that go out."
Then who makes the UMDs? Are you saying anyone can make a PSP game and then go directly to the UMD manufcaturer to press it? then I am gonna send in my home made tic-tac-toe tomorrow... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The PSP does have some rather annoying load times, but by and far, they're not like this video here. Still, they are pretty bad, especially when considering this is a portable device. The point of it is to play it when you have just a few minutes to spare. Combine the long load times with slim battery life, it isn't that great of a portable device.
Besides, the DS has software that you want to play. - The_Ox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love the music used on this clip :)
Try loading "World Championship Poker 2 - Featuring Howard Lederer" on the psp.. same deal. - YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've just lost seven minutes of my life. But were the most stimulating seven minutes I've had all morning. Thank you for making this video and reminding me why I don't own a console or portable gaming device. (Actually, that's mostly because I'm a cheapass with actual things to do).
On a minor note: It's a THQ/Wrestling game. The only thing fast is the production turnaround. - NewEvolution, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow. Knowing german, that's even funnier. Talk about a poster child for ritalin...
That load time for a PORTABLE DEVICE is insane. It's one thing if you're talking about the latest greatest enormous PC based game, but for something you're supposed to play on the go, 6+ minutes just doesn't cut it. - anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nintendo fans seem to have some sort of demented chip on their shoulders.
PSP is somewhat cool. Especially playing movies on it (ripped from bittorrent & dvd) - midorigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can not believe I just watched six minutes of loading screens...
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2sony fanboys wet their pants on a regular basis (becuase they have not been potty trained)____)
- nargilamonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1none of sony's game systems have a good loading time with their recent most games, another reason why Nintendo is better at making game systems: they realize the limitations of their technology and rather than make it choppy and slow to load, they just downgrade the graphics, too bad they like using weird as heck disk formats
- SoulMaster2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This has nothing to do with the PSP, the game was designed to work this way, whoever thought this was acceptable needs to be shot. This game has the longest loading times of any game on the PSP. Even Midnight Club 3 has shorter loading times. However the PSP is worth it just for the emulator and homebrew options.
- superandy47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Worst loading times ever?
Clearly, many of you never played Last Ninja 3 on the Commodore 64. - Ranferi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1someone NEEDS to post this video at the PlayStaion forums!!!!! Them fanboys overthere will wet thir pants. .....Actually, they should be used to this already.
- daveb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is astounding. Back in the 80s I used to load games from audio cassette into my ZX Spectrum... and I would be playing those games faster!
- pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"Ok, here's the cheese on this DS > PSP nonsense. Game review numbers based on IGN. Ratings on left, number of games in that rating on the right:
PSP
10: 0
9-9.9 : 3
8-8.9: 17
7-7.9: 35
DS
10: 0
9-9.9: 7
8-8.9: 21
7-7.9: 22
So there we have it. The DS has a MARGINAL number of top rated games (and ONLY if you bought ALL those better games would those numbers matter), yet the PSP has MORE 7+ rated games. Eat ***** boyz."
Yeah...But usually 7-7.9 games aren't worth playing... - AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1jpesicka2 said "it's fake, the timer he has only goes up to half a second, (5 tenths) before counting a whole seconds, so cut it in half, 3 minutes & some odd seconds"
It counts to 29 as in 29 frames per second. - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is absolutely ***** insane. I thought the load time on Smart Bomb was bad (10 seconds and then another 10 seconds after every time you died, which is frequent).
This game is unacceptable. How could Sony even approve of that game? That is pathetic.
I hate cut scenes. They're so annoying and worthless. I WANT TO PLAY THE ***** GAME!!! - podwich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"it's fake, the timer he has only goes up to half a second, (5 tenths) before counting a whole seconds, so cut it in half, 3 minutes & some odd seconds"
But oddly enough, each 5 "tenths" add up to a second if you bothered to look at your watch and time it. So don't cut it in half-6 minutes and some odd seconds.
Where's the rolleyes smiley? - breakneckridge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's slower than when I used to have to wait to load up games on my abacus in the 1400's!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll tell you one thing, I use my PSP more for the video playback and Im not taking about the UMD's I get my TV shows off BitTorrent and watch my videos on the go. I dont play many games on it. I only own 3 games. Street fighter, Burnout and Namco Museum. I mostly do Video, Music and pictures. Thats good enough for me. I love my PSP. (lode times on certain games DO suck! like Midnight DUB.....SUCKS ASS!!)
