- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+19This would be immensely popular and profitable, they would be stupid not to do this.
- aznedy, on 10/28/2007, -1/+17If it's true, I will never pirate another nintendo product again.
*not that I ever have* - syl1985, on 10/27/2007, -10/+19AKA POS
- cerealjynx, on 10/25/2007, -2/+11It's uh, been fixed, for a while now.
- razorsharp84, on 11/05/2007, -0/+8If they do this, I hope Metroid II is available for downloading soon after release; it's the only Metroid game I have yet to play. Maybe it'll be a little teaser before Dread is released, like the VC Metroids before Prime 3.
/speculation on a speculative story - grumbel, on 10/25/2007, -0/+7The problem is that you need to have a far more powerful machine to emulate another. So just having similar power as the N64 just isn't enough to emulating one.
- Branchex, on 10/25/2007, -0/+5The DS is not as powerful as the N64, games ported from it have had to be watered down. NES and SNES games should not be a problem especially since the DS has all the controls needed.
- AmonAmarth, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5Oh man, PLEASE do this. Secret of Mana on the go!
- unrealmp3, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4Probably that Nintendo will protect their games by adding a layer or protection to their official ROMS.
- squirmalicious, on 10/25/2007, -0/+4Plus, portability = yay.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4"So anybody who owns Super Mario Brothers, in turn can own it in any format legally."
True, however:
1. YOU have to make the backup/format shift. Downloading a backup even if you own the original is still illegal.
2. Even though you are legally allowed to make a backup the DMCA forbids you from breaking the copy protection in order to make said backup. - inactive, on 10/28/2007, -0/+3"and now Nintendo announces a GB download service for the DS."
They haven't announced that - inactive, on 10/25/2007, -2/+5Clever!
- squirmalicious, on 10/27/2007, -2/+5It's not like you can't do a lot of the same thing on the DS, but we don't all want to pirate games... and officially supported titles tend to be higher quality.
- shawnanigans, on 11/05/2007, -3/+6Its not pirating if you already own the game. So anybody who owns Super Mario Brothers, in turn can own it in any format legally. Which is why I have personally boycotted buying any game I already own, because it is forcing me to pay for a license to a game I already have a license for. So in the end I am just cheap because I'm a poor university student but still have a decent rationale for being cheap.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+3Both of them are on ebay for less than 5 bucks.
- bluemist, on 10/25/2007, -1/+4Very interesting!
Did I just realize that Nintendo is already 'potentially' offering all their game libraries from all their past game systems? It's like the Wii and DS are all you need if you like Nintendo gaming. Wii has NES, SNES and N64 and even GC games (not to mention other systems from Sega etc.) DS has GBA and would have GB/GBC if this is true. - axiomflash, on 10/25/2007, -2/+5Now if only I could play my Wii VC games on a DS, I'd have a reason to buy a DS. Until then, I don't!
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Well, I know no GBA-link features, with a console or another handheld, work on the DS. However, I am pretty sure the GBA-Link works on the Wii connected to a GBA because it plugs into the GC controller ports.
- WhereAmI, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2Yeah its not like the PSP can play Playstation games.
... - yingjai, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2What is the cost comparison between Nintendo's and 3rd party flash card for DS? Would the Nintendo flash card support "homebrew" games?
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1True, but it's hard for some of us late-comers to actually BUY the GBA games we want so we can play them on the DS.
I just recently bought a refurbed Gamecube so I could REplay both Metroid Prime games. In order to have the extras unlocked, you pretty much have to have the GBA games to do that. I don't know if you can do it from the DS, but the point is: it's DAMNED hard to find Metroid: Fusion and Metroid:Zero Mission...even USED. - dagooh, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Hey, I have one of th... oh... you meant like really official, yeah, well, I'm leaving now, thank you, bye bye.
- raindog469, on 10/28/2007, -0/+1Dugg down.... for having a "PDA-Watch".
- Seannaz453, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1Good to see Nintendo moving along with the times :)
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/25/2007, -0/+1I used to feel the same way, but after I actually got one on ebay for $80 I can't put it down, it's gaming library used to suck but there are a ton of good games for it now. (DJ MAX Portable 1 and 2 are like crack, the only portable game I was ever more addicted to was Meteos for the DS)
I hacked mine but so far I am only using it to load my UMDs to my memorystick for near-instant loadtimes and no need to carry around a bunch of miniture disks, havent even started on emulation on it yet. - grumbel, on 10/25/2007, -2/+2Which N64 ports have been watered down? Or better yet, how many N64 ports actually exist on the DS? All I know are Rayman DS and Mario64.
- diggdowner, on 10/28/2007, -7/+6Google, nds flash cart, r4, LameBoy homebrew, DLDI patch.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -3/+1SNES emu still runs bad, I can't play most games at full speed. Chrono Trigger is just a mess on it. And I really wanna play golden sun on the GBA emulator, but its still broken.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -3/+1wooooot
- dasdef, on 10/25/2007, -5/+3PSP a POS? you couldnt be more wrong you fanboy.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/28/2007, -4/+1Huh, weird coindince. I installed a GB emulator and some roms on my PDA-Watch just to test it yesterday and now Nintendo announces a GB download service for the DS.
- wildthing202200, on 10/28/2007, -4/+1Since the DS has the same power as the N64, I think it would be better if they just sync up the two an let you play all the games on both, then you can keep the VC games you bought on a GBA cartridge instead on the Wii's Memory or a SD card. You can transfer the games back to the Wii when you want to play on the TV and back the the DS when you're going out. Online play would make it even better but I'm getting to far ahead of myself here.
- cerealjynx, on 10/25/2007, -7/+4It's uh, been fixed, for a while now.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -8/+3The PSP suffers from flawed snes/gba support, if they fixed that, this would be gold. Oh, that and its not legal to download roms.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -6/+1doooooood
- Okari, on 10/28/2007, -35/+6There is already a VC for the portables. It's called the PSP.
