- Bara, on 10/12/2007, -8/+129No, Sony has put aside it's brain to collectively jab at Sony.
- diulei, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79Well, that's better than the "I like/work for product X therefore competitors Y and Z are all inferior" mentality.
- mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -2/+64It's merely a concrete example of how the Wii is not in competition with the Xbox360. It's an apples to oranges kind of thing. The Wii is a great game system, the Xbox 360 is a great game system, and clearly there is room in the market for both.
- DBiz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+61Perhaps Microsoft and Nintendo have put aside their competitive spirit to collectively jab at Sony.
- KnockoutNerd, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33Maybe it is the Official Xbox Wii60 Magazine.
- Scoresheet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Dumb thing to say.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Bill Gates has openly said he'd be the first in line to buy Nintendo if they ever decided they were willing to sell. What can I say? Wii rox.
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Editors of a gaming magazine are gamers. Who knew? :sigh:
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Exactly, the Wii provides the simple fun active gameplay, while the xbox give you the next gen high def gameplay. AND you can have two for the price of a PS3, how nice is that. I love my xbox and if i have some money to spare i would definitely pick up a Wii.
- legendary, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9thy enemy of my enemy is my friend
- NinjaBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yeah microsoft has always said that people should buy a wii to go with their 360. If people buy a wii they still have some money left over to buy games and arnt buying a PS3. And i think thats all the Microsoft cares about.
- Squill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Perhaps Microsoft and Nintendo have put aside their competitive spirit to collectively jab at Sony."
I remember a quote in an EGM mag from one of the Xbox 360 developers saying something like "Why buy a PS3 when you can get 2 better systems (360 & Wii) for the price of the PS3". - shosterman, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16No, it's just not news at all. The magazine is published by Future Publishing. It's a magazine about the XBox platform, the games, and the community. Contributors whom enjoy the Xbox also enjoy other console platforms. I know, it's blasphemy!
As much as the blog tries to make this into some sort of civil uprising, it's nothing. Move along. - t3hNinj4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Non competitors? Maybe for those with $650 to spend on consoles, not to mention another $100 or so for extra controllers, and plenty more for games. As a broke college student, I'm having a hard time deciding between a Wii, a 360 and a new computer, and there's no way in hell I can afford to get more than one. For those who can get both, they probably compliment each other nicely, but for me, there might as well be a law that says "you can only own one console."
- norm78, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I have both and like them both in different ways. Excellent comment mbthompson.
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Shoster,
"Civil Uprising"? You mean finding something "odd" means the blog is trying to cause a civil uprising? It even states it's not really news, just something they found odd and according to the Digg's, so did many others. It would be equally "odd" if Nintendo Power had their 360 Gamerscores next to their profile pics. It's not a cover everything gamer mag, it's an XBOX related gaming mag ad seeing anything pushed outside of that realm is just odd. Not groundbreaking, not "Hey grab your pitchforks!", just plain and simply, "Hey that's kinda odd." - Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The real competition in the current-gen market is between Microsoft and Sony. I think how the Wii does in the market will be independent of how the Xbox and PS3 do in most cases.

Generally, however, they squew things in a positive light for their respective systems to ensure they can still be the "official" magazine next year.
- bromanct, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you should go to gamespot.com
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Congratulations on being blocked. Please, by all means make more retarded names and make useless spam links I'll block those names too.
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@t3hNinj4
I'm in the same situation you're in. I'm breakin' the law, baby.
Also, you'll note that I said "in most cases." - Willeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's not necessarily true. I had a short stint at NOM UK and was surprised to learn that they had to compete, every year, for the contract - the year after I left, they failed in their bid and the mag switched from Emap to Future. I don't know whether this is true of every official magazine, but Nintendo were absolutely adamant that they wanted the best quality mag possible - they didn't just palm it off to the highest bidder.
Of course, you're right in saying that they skew the scores in a positive light to try and win the contract, but there's a lot more to it than just "paying to have the 'official' tag." - omfgitsronlolz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Wii is taking over the world.
- Willeth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Haha, missed the edit time, but I'd like to add that Nintendo Power actually IS written by employees of Nintendo, and not an independent with a licence.
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why is this so surprising? The Wii 360 is the best console out there, and cheaper than a POS3...I mean PS3
Besides, Wii not a 360 competitor, seeing as it isn't considered a current-gen console, but more of a fun box with a great control scheme. You arent going to be playing Oblivion on it any time soon... - ddobson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I will say that even Nintendo Power is more objective than it used to be - back in the early days it rarely said anything negative about any NES title, first or third-party. I think it still accentuates the positive, but it's better than it was. It also documents that some series have roots on non-Nintendo consoles, the existence of which it never even used to acknowledge.
- Nick_Wilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Didn't the OXM crew recently ask the community to come up with pictures of themselves as Mii characters, or am I getting that confused with the GameSpot asking?
- bashturd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1big deal, the guys who write for that magazine are gamers, the wii is an awesome console, BUT it is NOT a direct competitor to the 360. They may both be consoles, but they are worlds apart. Now if they were promoting the PS3 THAT would be weird.
- Ventiron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Irony is funny.
- MrTimmay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And you can get blocked for free! Have a nice day - buh bye now!
stupid searchjerk - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1WTF is with spammers have to misspell every word? "exbox"? Wtf is that? Exlax for Xbox users?
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought it was well-known that Microsoft had a non-aggressive, somewhat-intrigued attitude about Nintendo. The Xbox division leader, Peter Moore, use to be Sega America's leader, so he would have strong ties regarding Nintendo (when they use to be rivals to when Sega started making GC/GBA games).
That and Microsoft Game Studios publishing DS titles soon (Banjo-Kazooie DS, ASH, the cancelled halo DS, etc) might tip this factor off.
Microsoft's scorn for SON¥ however is quite out in the open. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I agree that Microsoft does not see the Wii as competition as the Xbox 360 are for serious gamers and the Wii are for people who just play games for fun
- terminalpariah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Breaking exclusive! Microsoft rumoured to buy Nintendo, as suggested by usage of Miis in the official Xbox magazine!
When pressed for comment, Reggie replied, "seriously, that's completely retarded. Why am I even talking to you?"
And we have confirmation!

Wow, gaming journalism is easy. Who wants to hire me? - bobbygeorgina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For two months Official XBox Magazine will use Miis for their pictures (this month and last month), then it will continue to use standard pictures.
- Bamshackle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mii's are awesome as pictures OXM had a good idea except for the whole Mii being on Wii thing....
but than again Microsoft wants Wii to do well b/c if it does Sony falls behind more. - spearman562, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Article Dugg down for being inaccurate. They also used Mii characters for the editor staff the month before this. If you actually look at the magazine you will see that it says they used it last issue on the bottom of page 13.
- jmdajr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2wii60!
- Wytefang, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And this is news because...? Dugg down for wasting bandwidth. C'mon Wii-tards, can't you do better than this for news? Talk about desperate.
- FryedGuy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3There aren't any flashing LED's on it, so it's not a Fox News Alert.
- IlliniJen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think this is great. I own a Wii, DS Lite and a PS2. I'm seriously considering buying an XBox 360 because I think a lot of rational people hit it on the head: these are two great complimentary systems. Sure, they may share some titles in the future (Guitar Hero anyone?), but there are plenty of platformers that exist on both systems that appeal to the gamers that aren't willing to shell out $600 for a PS3.
I think MS has realized (and perhaps Sony will one day come around, if they pause long enough to pull their head out of their butt), that many "hardcore" gamers will throw $250 at a Wii without too much thought. It's almost too cheap not to get if you want variety in your gaming. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Believe it or not, outside of DIGG most gamers aren't that uptight about the console "wars" :p
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Being an editor of an Xbox magazine doesn't mean you start and end every day on your knees in front of Bill Gates.
I think that both Microsoft and Sony have the tip their hats off to Nintendo, who pulled the coup of the millennium and was able to successfully market a product that didn't rely on superior performance to get an edge on the competition. Otherwise, your just an *ss for suggesting that Nintendo isn't competitive in this gaming business. - Willeth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm sick of this feeling that just because a person works for a certain magazine they have to be complete fanboys of the respective console. It's complete rubbish - everyone was up in arms when the editor of OPM said she was going to get a 360 instead of a PS3 and I still don't understand why. It's the same with this. Just because a 360 owner likes the Wii doesn't make them any less of a responsible journalist - in fact, I'd argue quite the opposite.
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4@ Bara
For it to be a collective jab, wouldent there have to be more than one brain at Sony? - slapded, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0and i care about this story because.......
- Arch4ngel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I always said that Wii was cool and fun! You see? Even fanboy of XBOX say that the Mii are cool :P
- NickyBatts, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2BIZARRO BIZARRO BIZARRO!!!
