- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I just submitted for my replacement straps but not even my 2 year old daughter has dropped it while playing yet. Yes, she plays.
- Badman996, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33I thought it was "Better to be safe than Sony"?
- Makubex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32It figures, right after I took the advice of Japanese children and super glued the remote to my hand...
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -3/+32oh, ***** off. a lot of people have broken their straps and they're not "emo kids". My dad broke the strap on my first Wiimote, and he's not exactly emo.
Why are people ***** complaining about something that is completely free and Nintendo is doing in complete kindness? - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20I'm so glad this replacement program is coming out. Ever since I read articles saying that the strap could break and my Wii remote could potentially damage or destroy my television, I have removed the straps from each of them. Now when anybody plays, I am in no danger of having a strap break since they are just sitting on the coffee table.
- imsoclever, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Not one bashing post until you posted...
This is like the most benign article ever and yet STILL some one has to go on a tirade. - Anth741, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22"It's all these EMO kids wanting attention and posting"
Irony... Yea.. I hate those EMO kids who post stuff complaining and looking for attention when you don't really give a ***** what they have to say. - n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19My 4 year old son is unbeaten in Bowling. I played him last night and he pulled off a turkey (3 strikes in a row) and spared all the other frames. He is the only one in the house who has made it to pro status. We have not broken any straps yet.
- BuGz213, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Sent mine also. Its good to see that Nintendo is going to replace all of them.
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19You're just an angry douchebag.
- afex, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20yup, you got 'em. they decided to make the straps weak and get a bunch of bad PR plus lose money on making the new ones and shipping them to you just so they can spam you.
- Sandwiches_Time, on 10/12/2007, -7/+20I've had two break on me. One by my 7-year-old niece and one by my drunken friend.
I love my Wii, but there's no way around it: Nintendo made those cords way too thin. - pureliquidhw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14mine broke when i got angry, tried to throw it, it swung on my wrist into my shin. I recoiled and the wii-mote flung up, strap broke and there is now a wii-mote sized dent in my ceiling. No worries, though, the wii-mote is fine.
- benitojuarez, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18way to stick it to the man there anonatron you keep this up and youll be eating into nintendos profits in no time.
douche. - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I don't think they exist in Wisconsin. I found 1 extra that had fallen behind a stack of PS2s, but that's the only one I've seen for weeks.
- zenmouse, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I have no sympathy for the people who have broken their tvs with these remotes. It doesn't take a genius to look at the Wiimote strap and see that it probably can't take too much punishment. So MAYBE Rocket-arm Mcgee should read the instructions and realize this is a video game, not the real thing.
I'm so sick of nobody taking responsibility for anything nowadays. These would be the same people who spill coffee on themselves and sue McDonalds, because it was hot. - Wedgieman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Apparently only the idiots who throw wiimotes live in USA and Canada
- jrstinkfish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10One of mine broke too, but not from flinging it while playing. I was just holding it during a loading screen, and it fell out of my hand, so I instinctively tried to catch it with my other hand (not remembering the strap would keep it from falling). When I grabbed it with my other hand, the strap snapped. If that tiny amount of pressure could make it snap, I'm glad I never let go of it while swinging it around playing a game.
- TheSkinsFactory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Louis75: I'm betting you're wearing a tinfoil hat aren't you? ;-)
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I thought you actually knocked over the bowling pins when the Wiimote hit them...
- realyst, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Australia already got the newer version of the straps. No recall necessary.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Duh, that's because if it was MS or Sony the straps were omgdefective to begin with and should never have been released until your local Ironman approved it.
- mastahack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8myne broke. i requested 4, but, untill then i will be using my psp strap because im not a complete retard and i can hold something in my hand unless im flailing at the tv. which is why my psp will be strappless and my wii will have a sony strap. please dont jump me over using sony products with wii.
- Hoov, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Not to drag this out (not bashing the Wii, infact I'd really like one), but wrist straps cost pennies compared to hardware problems, which have to be diagnosed, patched, and tested across a range of configurations to ensure they work.
In the case of hardware issues it seems logical for a company (as a consumer I disagree however) to anticipate how much it will cost to fix a problem, as well as how many people are having the problem. - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'm a Wii fanboy, not a Wii fetishist.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Nice free wii straps
- ozziegt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@jsully:
Because this really isn't a safety issue or a manufacturing defect? Batteries exploding is just a wee bit more dangerous dontcha think? The PS3 is plauged with problems and now there is the Xbox360 firmware fiasco and neither MS nor Sony are doing anything about it. So go take your groucho attitude somewhere else. Nintendo has a long history of taking care of their consumers. - azra3l, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6nothing for us uk users tho? even tho i picked up mine on dec 8th, it has the old style strap (at least according to the pics on the nintendo site)
alright for some i guess... - panzerfinder15, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8This is why I'm a Nintendo Fan...when they mess up, they admit it and fix it!
- Arkz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No one has said it yet but this is only US and Canada
Im a UK'er and i got a launch machine with the stronger strap.. im thinking all EU machines came with it... they probably discovered the problem before the US launch and started making the new uns straight away, hence some US'ers getting the stronger one too... - nipterink, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5*****. i just wanted a strap.
- ardnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not all UK machines came with the stronger strap, I got mine on the day of the UK release and I have the thin strap. The extra controller I got with Wii play did have the thicker strap though.
- sislak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5dugg down for use of "ne" to mean any. Its one letter!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Anybody else a proud 4 Wiimote owner?
- jsully, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@Niobium,
If I threw a wiimote through my $1500 TV, I would be more than "unhappy". People don't think, and is right, if this were Sony everyone would be having a *****. - charlescheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I thought, "what kind of idiot would let the remote slip out of their hands" and then I was playing tennis last night and the remote slipped out of my hand. I guess I'm that kind of idiot! Anyway, I just bought a $4000 TV, so I'm going to be getting these upgraded straps. Thanks for the link.
- CKnight, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@zenmouse
It's not about sympathy, nor is it about people taking (or not taking) responsibility. It's all comes down to Nintendo realising that their customers are not having the full experience of the Wii and trying to help rectify the situation if and how they can.
So instead of sitting back and pointing and laughing at other people's "stupidity", they are helping their customers' out and building brand loyalty in the process. Being good corporate citizens and cementing themselves in the minds of Wii users as being customer oriented. Sounds like a good deal to me. - xBBx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Signed up for mine, better to be safe than sorry ;)
- dlc1911, on 10/12/2007, -1/+44 wiimotes and 4 nunchucks here. Toys'R'Us seems to have a disproportionate number of accessories. I had checked Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Walmart, Gamestop, and EB Games in the area without any luck... Toys'R'Us had about 15 wiimotes with 15 nunchucks in stock 2 weeks ago. I live around Seekonk, Mass.
I would check with your local TRU if you really want one. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4come on.....seriously? This is nothing like training a baby! Teaching your child that they can't have everything they want is a very good principle of parenthood.
But, I really don't think too many infants are going to be ordering replacement straps for their Wiis. This is a nice thing that Nintendo is doing, and they're not asking for anything in return. I just really don't see your logic why this is a bad thing. Does it affect you in any way at all? No!
Oh, and nice job on the tired immature jokes. You're the first person to ever think that one up! - theragu40, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4This kind of makes me sad that they're bowing to the pressure. It would be one thing if there was some sort of legitimate problem, but I think we can be fairly certain that most of the strap breakages are extreme cases of user failure.
- glenathon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ya gotta hand it to Nintendo....
The only lick of bad press they've received on their new console is regarding the straps and they're fixing it with a replacement program. - Miyazaki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I've had no problems with the two controllers I've had since launch day.
I've used them many times, as well as friends, drunk and sober.
I'll be ordering some of these straps though, just to be on the safe side of things. - Braingoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yay my new 42in LCD screen has been saved from Wiimoteicide.
One of my straps did break and has now been replaced by the strap
from my camera, wich ironicaly has the word Sony Printed On it.
But my Wiimote > Digital Camera. - TheSkinsFactory, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Mobydigg: On behalf of stupid Americans everywhere (myself included) go f**k yourself.
- straxus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think the free 90 day extension to your Wii's warranty they offer for registering is a much better 'ploy'.
- 1021, on 10/12/2007, -8/+10awesome, sad thing is, I bet she would beat me at most anything. I have really bad hand-eye coordination.
- iamhrh, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Have you seen a single lie from nintendo, denying that the original straps had a problem? Ok, now that we've shown how nintendo is different fron sony, can you accuse nintendo of EVER playing "me too" with any of their products? Great! Now we know that Nintendo is not like either Sony OR Microsoft. Shut the ***** up.
- trekkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3there is no such thing as bad press. They have gotten more press showing people using their new wiimotes wailing their hands around and usually laughing. Seems like a win/win and on top of that, they fixed it less than 30 days after the launch in the US...and had fixed it already on systems shipping later (according to reports, not sure if that's true or not)
- trekkie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had one snap when removed from the blister pack by my father in law. I think a lot of the injuries and cracked TV are people who want to be 'internet famous' instead of real issues. I'm not a physics major or a mechanical engineer so I can say with any certainty but to me it seems if you do the old mass + acceleration thing cracking that screen on a TV sure takes a lot of acceleration, or maybe more than possible.
Dunno though. -
