- joe2100, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30This still doesn't fix the $2 per additional song DL price.
- nonpareil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Sadly, this won't help me suck any less.
- NeoCortex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19No whammy...no whammy...no whammy. Yes!
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17So someone who spends $90 only to receive a broken piece of hardware has no right to complain and is considered a "hater"? Makes sense to me.
- gamingdude, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12No more whammy problems while rocking out!!!
- erbpro8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This update makes everything feel smoother. Thanks to Activision for fixing this issue.
- grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10On the other side, what would be the alternative? A Guitar Hero 2 that is buggy and doesn't get fixed? Harmonix doing a recall and soon after declaring bankruptcy? I kind of prefer a simple patch over any of that. Remember, just because you stop developers from patching doesn't mean that the games will magically be bug free, just look at Zelda for the Wii and the canon-bug, all that quality and a game that got delayed over a year didn't stop it from happening.
- GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9No, I opened mine and fixed it myself (wasn't working probably 25% of the time), and this patch doesn't make it any better or worse. (after you fixed it)
Basically, when we opened it and fixed it, we adjusted it so it'd be more sensitive to start whamming when you first push the bar down. This patch essentially did the same thing in software. So now it works instantly! ;) - joeshlub, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8but you have to admit, that whammy bar broke way too easy. Cheap plastic innards, it would have survived 10x longer if they'd used 2 more cents of aluminum in each of them.
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I just wish the sensor for star power was a little more sensitive.
- unununium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6You mean only users of XBOX Live Silver or better, which is every XBOX360 owner.
- eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Now haters have one less thing to complain about
- skyfire1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"Champ here. I'm all about havin' fun. You know, start a fire in someone's kitchen, maybe go to SeaWorld, take my pants off... Anyway, I've become kind of famous for my signature catch-phrase ? whammy. Like, Gene Tenace at the plate... and whammy."
- dolemite5005, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7But will this patch fix the sticky/unresponsive yellow button?
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wasn't the problem to do with only a few of the 360 guitars?
- R3PUBLIC0n, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9How this got past quality control in the first place; I have no idea.
This is why being able to patch console games can be a bad thing - though this is a minor example, companies can now release unfinished products as is done on the PC.
If you think Battlefield 2 was bad, just you wait. The best is yet to come. - GuyHersh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5The whammy bars were never really "broken" (well some of course were, but a very low percentage of em). Most people were experiencing an "unresponsive whammy" bar problem, which was either fixable by opening it up yourself and adjusting it to be more sensitive, or now with this patch (to have the software be more senstive to it).
Its the media and Xbox haters that spread the rumor that ALL whammy bars were broken. - solarix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2IMHO "Broken" means not working at all. This has been fixed via a sensitivity adjustment for those who were having intermittent problems. (Including myself)
- mrgone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now they just have to patch their business model so that we can choose the songs we want. I wouldn't mind paying 2 bucks a song quite so much if I could buy them individually.
- furntree, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does this update mean everyone who opened their controller and fixed it themselves will have a broken one today?
- xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'd be pissed if they didn't have an update mechanism. But thankfully they do, so hurrah!
- tokyopimp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just beat all 40 songs on hard (***** YOU FREEBIRD!), and am now on expert, (PS2 version), I got five stars on all medium songs before I even attempted hard.
The difference between medium and hard is, you're probably going to have to practice a lot of the songs on slow or slower even. Pyschobilly Freakout on hard is a god damn piece of ***** (I'm not looking forward to the expert version), but once you get it it's fun. I think probably most people besides hardcore players aren't even going to bother with hard or expert. And that's fine because the game is fun on medium and you can play against most people at that level, that's the good thing about Guitar Hero, everyone can play. Hardcore players can get a lot of challenge out of it, and casual players can have fun as well. - solarix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ya know I hate to say it, but I think Red Octane knew that they would get lower sales by releasing all the song individually. I am not saying it is right, but it's business. If they are released in three packs, more people are tempted to buy the whole pack than just the one song that they want. Hence why many artist's don't like iTunes cause you aren't "forced" to buy their whole song package (CD). It's a toss up if they would make more selling them individually or at their current "Groups of three". Honestly since I loved the original Guitar Hero and have since retired my PS2, I want all the songs. Yes it will cost me more, Yes that isn't right from Red Octane. But I hate to say it, but I will pay nearly $100 to not have to keep my PS2 hooked up for one damn game.
But I am trying to hold out altogether for the whole GH1 DLC bundle. - xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just tested this and WOO it works! I don't have to return my guitar anymore! =D Thanks for the news!
- MikeMasters, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yay for the patch
s for my progress
Gold star on everything on easy
5 stars on everything on medium
Beat hard
2 songs left on expert (hanger 18 and free birs)
All of the above was on ps2
as for my 360
5 stars on everything on medium
Beat hard
In the process of beating all the bonus songs on hard ion career to get the achievment
Then going to start expert
My wif is going to do easy ( she does not play that often ) - MaddogMonty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Besides breaking the Whammy bar the PS2 version never had the same problem the 360 owners did.
- LocalH, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3But the hardware wasn't broken according to this (except for a small batch of them). If it's patchable in software then the hardware itself is functioning correctly.
- Yareking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Maybe they were broken but they made some software patch that could make the problem disaper . ROCK N ROLL
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seems their production lines have a problem with getting potentiometers set right.
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Dolemite
A tiny bit of Vaseline fixes that. - Mukmaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2To bad the dont have a fix for sucking at this game
- hifigi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oho! If only I could go back in time for this post!
http://www.destructoid.com/red-octane-fixes-whammy-bar-ruins-everything-else-30996.phtml - p_o_b, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@NeoCortex what doesn't it fix?
- eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It was a software anti-cheat issue. Nothing to do with hardware.
- vawksel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@roagie
I got five stars on all 40 songs on Medium... the most difficult was Institutionalized, that up and down solo was a bitch. Free Bird was easier than that song for me.
Going to Hard is significantly harder than Medium's most difficult levels. The first song Shout to the Devil, I had to go into Practice mode and practice in slow motion over and over just so I didn't get boo'ed off the stage.
Now I can do the first 4 venues (20 songs) on Hard, but only get between 70% and 85% max notes, and always 3 stars of course. I am really slaughtering the songs (in a bad way).
Expert for some of the easier songs (I tried a few), isn't really much more difficult than Hard, strangely enough. - eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@dolemite
if you actually bought the game and had a whammy bar that worked 60% of the time, you'd know how minor of an issue this was. - eMximeR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^wtf?
- simpleranger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0For folks concerned about not being able to download the update, FTA:
"If you are unable to connect to the Internet, or do not have an Internet connection in your home, please contact our customer service department to receive a replacement version of the game. We are currently in the process of re-manufacturing the game and expect to have new copies of Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 available shortly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused." - PureHeretic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4GUITAR VILLAIN FTW!
- zexionslayer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0might of fixed wammy bar but the patch has caused a much more problem for people with PART N.O.95055 which is located in back of guitar. u will get wat i known as the dreaded ring of death.in other words your xbox will be ruined.
- kahlessreborn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4LOL now i just need to remember to check manufacture dates, I would rather have a new disc with the update on it than have to update through xbox live and leave the program on the HD.
- CrappedCrusader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Grr.. My Upstrum switch on that side of the rocker sticks occasionally (which makes the strum bar not pop back out AND click repeatedly because its still depressed). I opened it up today and took a look at it... loosened it up a bit, bud not much. Can I spray switch lube on that? Anyone else have this problem?
- furntree, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I never broke my PS2 whammy bar....how much pressure do people put on a fake guitar's whammy bar?
- Roagie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"To bad the dont have a fix for sucking at this game"
They do, it's called practice. When I first started, I sucked on the easy setting. I did all the easy songs, and then went all the way through medium. I'm now revisiting easy and getting 5 stars and many perfects on all the songs. I'll probably do the same for hard... go all through them (getting crappy scores granted), and then revisit medium and hopefully I'll be able to nail 5 stars on all of them as well. Of course, my system fails when I get to expert :/ - Dragular, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5How?
I thought the problem with the whammy bar was a hardware issue, hence the fixes posted all over the place. How can a software update fix a hardware problem? If I blow out a tire on my car I don't get to fix it by changing the clock on the radio. - tgc9012, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"If your Xbox 360 is not connected to the Internet, but you have an Internet connection in your home, you can download the Guitar Hero II title update for free by connecting your 360 to the Internet."
In other words: CONNECT YOUR XBOX 360 TO THE INTERNET
douchebags... - JOhalloran, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Finally, that was getting annoying.
- SonicBoom1000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1What is up with publishers and releasing games when they are not finished and buggy as hell. I would be hella pissed if I was a 360 owner.
- Majorkerina, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1No whammies! Big bucks and plenty of groupies!
- nonpareil, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1If, Pathy, by "only a few" you mean half or more of the folks who bought it over the first few days it was out, yeah: "only a few."
