- freakish_beast, on 03/13/2009, -9/+100Second Life still exists? my gawd
- DoodleMaster, on 03/13/2009, -2/+75The title is *****...The article says nothing about them removing sex from second life only that it's being sectioned off and filtered more.
Sensationalist... - ProfessorSYM, on 03/13/2009, -4/+54We all waste our time in different ways, so stop worrying about what other people are doing.
- DillingerSmooth, on 03/12/2009, -2/+41no more sex in second life is like having no sex at all....wait a minute!?!?
- DoodleMaster, on 03/13/2009, -1/+38Warning high metaphor density alert.
- Tddupre, on 03/13/2009, -2/+38damn and i just started a prostitution ring in second life
- tault, on 03/13/2009, -1/+32So wait. Your going to tell me the only thing that was getting second life any type of publicity to help them gain revenue is going to be taken away? What sort of idiot would make this move? Second life might have just put the nail in the coffin.
- danwallace, on 03/13/2009, -3/+29So, if I'm getting this, Second Life is an MMORPG, but without stats, quests, enemies or a point?
- Sludgehammer, on 03/13/2009, -2/+25The Sims is a game, Second Life is a 3D chat room.
- smrekar, on 03/13/2009, -1/+21Second Life...Where men are men, women are men and children are the FBI.
- vsujohn2, on 03/13/2009, -5/+24Apparently you aren't familiar with the Sims either?
- microview2007, on 03/13/2009, -2/+21How are diggers going to get laid now?
- whatthefu, on 03/13/2009, -1/+19People treat the Sims as a "second life" and not as a virtual torture/murder chamber where you get to play god?
- Animental, on 03/13/2009, -0/+15What's a pennis?
- Samohtneas, on 03/13/2009, -3/+18The difference is in the Sims, you use the in-game money to buy stuff. In SL, you have to buy that in game money, with your hard earned legal tender.
Worst investment ever. - Leo21k, on 03/13/2009, -0/+14Just as much as of a point as any other video game.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -1/+15But I bet your level 60 Night Elf Hunter has only the best leathers and bow, right?
- CaptObvious, on 03/13/2009, -3/+16I see a drop is Second Life's userbase in 3....2....1....
- snotrokit, on 03/13/2009, -1/+14Hi, I'm Chris Hanson. Have a seat over here.
oops wrong room. - tgjerusalem, on 03/13/2009, -7/+19The internet as a whole isn't a physical object. People buy and sell things here all the time. Just because you can't hold an object in your hands doesn't mean it isn't real.
- Dalhectar, on 03/13/2009, -3/+15The nail been in this coffin, and the coffin's in the ground. Most of the human species has moved on. Linden Labs just lost directions to the funeral.
- Gonz037, on 03/13/2009, -3/+15But can people still rain down a storm of *****?
- ivanmarsh, on 03/13/2009, -2/+14Why do people think the entire F$#@ing wolrd has to be kid safe? How 'bout we make it illegal to access the internet before you're 18?
A while back our city council passed a law that said if your establishment has more than two pool tables you have to allow people over 18 in... number of pool halls in town before the law: 3 ... Number of pool halls still in business after the law: 0
Adults need some places to entertain themselves too. - inactive, on 03/13/2009, -1/+13How do you figure Second Life and PS3 Home have anything to do with each other?
- enivid, on 03/13/2009, -0/+11Whoa whoa slow down there.... real?
- neotoy, on 03/13/2009, -0/+10I was around the last time they tried this, total BS, LL can't enforce any of their policies. They also banned gambling, ages ago, guess how that turned out?
- marktastic, on 03/13/2009, -1/+11Instead only try to realize the truth: There is no spoon.
Seriously though, the Internet physically resides on millions (billions?) of computers on HDDs, so saying it can't be physical would be incorrect. Aside from that fact, I think you are confusing "reality" with "value" in your statement. eg. "Just because you can't hold an object in your hands doesn't mean it doesn't have value." Would make much more sense. - neotoy, on 03/13/2009, -2/+12there are lots of practical applications for SL, it's not just a glorified chat program. It's good for telecommuting, conferences, education, design prototyping, demos and collaborative R&D.
- angusm, on 03/13/2009, -4/+14Between that, the iPod Shuffle proprietary headphones scandal and Michael Jackson's farewell tour, my "Things I Couldn't Give a ***** About" meter is practically pegged.
- Leonffs, on 11/20/2009, -3/+13read that again for me and tell us all how it makes sense.
- Klisk, on 03/13/2009, -0/+9Probably has bad body odor, too. People forget that their MMO characters never bathe or use deodorant. They're not as attractive as you think. :(
- isny, on 03/13/2009, -1/+10Coming soon: third life.
- MCJackhammer, on 03/13/2009, -0/+9It ain't easy being a second pimp.
- skatoolaki, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8Of course it isn't "real", it's "virtual" - no one says or thinks it is "real". But the money you can make off it is very real; just ask Anshe Chung. Not such a ridiculous pasttime, now is it?
And it isn't "nonsense"; there are many wonderful things about Second Life (SL) - the community especially. I log on to spend time with real life friends who live in other states, who I can't see on a regular basis. In SL we can hang out, go exploring, do things together rather than just chat in an IM client. It's a wonderful, enriching way to stay in touch & spend some time together.
It's also a great venue for new artists - especially musicians - to get noticed, heard, and make new fans. They can play their music live in SL and people all over the world can be there to listen instantly.
Perhaps you didn't know that UNO in New Orleans re-built itself virtually in SL; is it there in case of another Katrina, so that students may log in with their avatars into SL and attend class in the virtual UNO & not miss a semester's worth of classes like they did when that hurricane struck. With streaming video & voice, the professors can give their lessons & the students - no matter where they are in the world - can get what they need.
SL has many possibilities - it certainly isn't "nonsense". Do some research before making such comments, please. - napsack, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8and the difference between this and paying for mp3 via itunes?
- gurudrew, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8I am guessing that you meant "under 18"
- Earthacis, on 03/13/2009, -0/+8I don't know if people know this but Second life requires you to be over the age of 18 to play in its normal world. Linden labs takes it pretty seriously as well. If they get reported and its found to be true that the person is actually under the age of 18 the account can get banned.
There's a whole separate game setup for the younger crowd. - skatoolaki, on 03/13/2009, -5/+12Second Life (SL) isn't *just* about sex. I have a full & fun virtual life in SL and none of it involves sex; all of my friends there enjoy SL without resorting to unbridled sex with everyone they meet or visiting orgy rooms on a constant basis. Sure, sex is a big part of SL; it's also a big part of the Internet itself. Let's be honest; in the virtual world, sex has laid it's claim and it's huge.
It isn't all nonsense and sex, and those that think that haven't really given SL a chance & put effort into having an enjoyable time there and a "virtual" life worth returning to; it takes some work to get yourself settled into the world & get to know the right people. Also, the money you can make in SL it is very real; just ask Anshe Chung. Not such a ridiculous pasttime, now is it?

SL has many possibilities - it certainly isn't just a glorified sex chatroom. There are some great things happening in and because of SL; just look into it. A man paraplegic hooked to electrodes walked & talked in SL - giving him a freedom & way of expressing himself to others he'd never had before.
It's also great for artistic expression and self expression (especially expressing sides of yourself you can't or won't in your real life). It lets you experience life (albeit virtually) and try things you might not be willing to try in your real life - it's an escape, a hobby, a pasttime, a community, a form of expression. It's like being inside creative people's imaginations; as the entire "world" is user-created (and there are some beautiful places to visit). - DirtyBinLV, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7And after this ruling, it will lack the few remaining participants.
- smrekar, on 03/13/2009, -1/+8Even a digger couldn't score in second life. 45 year old fat men in their mothers basements have standards too.
- Drax0n, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7Except in RL both participants aren't fat old guys, or divorced fat woman with a self image problem.
- MCJackhammer, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7Sean Pennis not that tall.
- midbc, on 03/13/2009, -0/+7My pen is huge
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -0/+6And way, WAY more sex.
- styx31989, on 03/14/2009, -0/+6same could be said for the internet, really...
- jordanisj, on 03/13/2009, -10/+16MMORPGs already don't have a point.
- inactive, on 03/13/2009, -3/+9No More Sex in Second Life? OH well back to the yahoo chat rooms for cybersex... ASL anyone?
- Nanog, on 03/13/2009, -1/+7You are not real to me either, but I still wasted 2 minutes of my life responding to your stupid post....yes this was utterly retarded act.
- pyabo, on 03/13/2009, -3/+9First gambling... now the adult content? No wonder Second Life is no longer relavent.
- crossmr, on 03/14/2009, -0/+5and how many of them are regular? I made an account there like 4 years ago. I'm probably still counted as a user.
I hear the regular usage was something around 200,000 and that was maybe 1-2 years ago. I'm sure its declined since then. -
