- adml_shake, on 06/03/2009, -73/+210Ok I'm confused, MS had some big announcements...but Sony announce what? A wii knock off remote and a PSP that looks even more uncomfortable to use then the last one? How exactly did they do better then Nintendo?
- NathanielJ, on 06/03/2009, -33/+161"And yet, with Sony showing off Assassin's Creed 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Uncharted 2..."
So Sony showed off a sequel to a game that disappointed pretty much everyone, a racing game that will no doubt rock but has been known about and been in production for years, and one quality-looking title. That beats the announcement of two new Mario games and a new Metroid game?
And no, I haven't touched my Wii in about a year, so I'm hardly a Nintendo fanboy (as I'm sure I'll be branded) but E3 has been the first time I've been excited about my Wii (cue the jokes) in a while, so this article makes no sense to me.
Edit: While I'm at it...
"...and judging by the disappointing sales of Super Mario Galaxy..."
Yeah, those 7.95 million units sold are really hurting them. Honestly, when trying to convince us that Sony is beating Nintendo, why on earth would you bring up sales? - Pinkshisno, on 06/03/2009, -18/+140Nintendo appeased people who wanted more of their classic first party games and no Wii Music and delivered and now people are bitching about that? Seriously?
People just seem to hate Nintendo for anything. - Elranzer, on 06/02/2009, -36/+139Yeah, Nintendo's the biggest loser... all the way to the bank. Sony and Microsoft are probably losing lost of money developing their motion-control based 32X add-ons, while Nintendo will (for better or worse) likely print money with the vitality sensor and win back a lot of their hardcore fanbase with the new Metroid, Mario Galaxy and 2D New Super Mario Bros Wii.
- ticookie, on 06/03/2009, -6/+92Nintendo might've lost, but that was not a bad performance in the least. Impressive on all three's counts. Best E3 in years.
- dsmx, on 06/03/2009, -36/+113Sony did better because they announced a ***** load of exclusive games that look and sound very good. A version of the wii remote that is more precise and in theory at least will work better. A psp that people who have actually played on it haven't said it's uncomfortable, just different.
Nintendo didn't really announce anything that interesting or surprising, there isn't really anything to get excited about on the wii. Oh joy mario game 546431 is arriving. - keviniskool, on 06/03/2009, -0/+72She has no idea what she is doing, yet for some reason, Nintendo chose her to appeal to the women gamers. Sarah Palin was chosen despite a lack of experience (or common sense) to appeal to women voters. See the connection?
- XenoSNK, on 06/03/2009, -8/+76*****, Golden Sun 3. I don't care what else is coming out at all. It's an automatic win. You can take your interactive games all the way to the bank, but I don't know a better series than Golden Sun, and to see it's not completely forgotten about is ***** amazing.
And that Metroid trailer was ***** awesome too.
Call Nintendo "the loser" all you want, but it's like losing out of 3 amazing choices - you're still going to get a fantastic show. - phpirate, on 06/03/2009, -7/+68I think people already made up their minds about nintendo being a big loser before their E3 showing even started. It's the 360/PS3 fanboys favorite whipping boy now.
- inkswamp, on 06/03/2009, -10/+63Whatever. If announcing the sequel to one of the most enjoyable and inventive games I've ever played makes Nintendo a loser, I'm more than happy to be on the losing side.
- fsufanizzle, on 06/03/2009, -4/+56I'm a gamer, not a fanboy. E3 was excellent this year.
- ZebZ, on 06/03/2009, -1/+48My hardcore gaming years have passed. Part of me wants to sit down and play some of the games that look impressive, but I haven't felt compelled to invest a few hundred bucks to the cause.
The Wii is great for what it is and what it does. I mainly use my Wii now to go online once or twice a week for a few hours with Mario Kart and race against a bunch of work buddies.
The Wii isn't a multimedia hub. The Wii isn't a console for hardcore gamers. The Wii is a console for those of us who like to sit down for a couple hours a few times a week or a few times a month and pick up a game. The Wii is a console that's fun for parties and gatherings.
Although I do have to admit the XBox360 is looking better and better as a complete entertainment hub that also plays a few great looking games I'm halfway interested in. If I look at it from that angle, I can almost justify it. Almost. - tidu, on 06/03/2009, -2/+46What? You don't want to track your pulse with the Wii?
- kinseyincanada, on 06/03/2009, -2/+45what the ***** was with Wii Vitality?
- nmathew, on 06/03/2009, -4/+46@EoNhausen
Nintendo ripped off Sony for the Power Glove concept? No offense, but the idea of a controller being a motion sensing device has been around awhile. - Benad, on 06/03/2009, -1/+42Your opinions are useless in this sea of fanboys BECAUSE YOU HAVE A LIFE.
- HALNINETHOUSAND, on 06/02/2009, -28/+67And after all that "wii taking over the world" talk the last few years. Sadness.
- 42Vindictive, on 06/03/2009, -6/+42Nintendo promises innovation. Nintendo produces 19th Mario game. I'm seeing a weird contrast here.
- kefkaantakrist, on 06/03/2009, -6/+41If the game is fun, who cares if the central character is Mario or ***** von Crappington?
- Chrysalii, on 06/03/2009, -4/+39Yeah, this motion control gimmick...it will never catch on </Sony or Microsoft fanboy 3 years ago<>
- swiecki, on 06/02/2009, -8/+41I'm not quite sure what that means.
- ferroussoul, on 06/03/2009, -10/+43As a diehard Sony fan, I'm trying to figure out what to get excited about for Sony. They announced a racing game, a game that's on another console, the sequel to the most boring MMO in existence, a Wii Remote and oh yes, let's not forget the over-priced PSP with a smaller screen and still no second analog stick.
MS had the best presentation in terms of new features for XBLA, and I was genuinely excited for Nintendo's new games. Sony did a lot better than E3 2008, but then again, so did everybody else. This article was written by SDF. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -21/+53Apple never kicks anyones ass.
At anything. - disappointed, on 06/02/2009, -22/+52Well, the Wii is taking over the world in the sense that both Microsoft and Sony are now ripping off it's one unique feature. All consoles are now Wiis.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -4/+33The Mp3 player Market?
- phpirate, on 06/03/2009, -10/+38If that was true, then why is Microsoft and Sony both attempting to make motion controllers like the Wii already has?
- IHaveCrayons, on 06/03/2009, -21/+48I find it funny that there are all these people defending Nintendo by saying they're making tons of money... I didn't know if you owned a Wii you got a share of the profit because I have one and I REALLY want to buy more games for it (to justify my purchase) but... lo and behold there aren't any and won't be soon according to this E3
- Shirt, on 06/03/2009, -7/+32Madworld, Conduit, The Grinder, Gladiator AD, No More Heroes 2, and Red Steel 2? How many games do you want, exactly?
- lukedinan, on 06/03/2009, -6/+31while i agree, i am furiously jealous of a Team Ninja Metroid game. that trailer was sick. too bad we'll never see it in high def!
- NathanielJ, on 06/03/2009, -0/+23Wii Play numbers are hugely inflated because it comes packed with a Wiimote, making it in essence a $9 game.
- Wayfarer12, on 06/02/2009, -18/+40How embarrassing! Reminds me of last year...
http://the-minusworld.com/2008/07/16/the-5-most-em ... - Farmer77, on 06/03/2009, -5/+27I thought Sony had a better conference than Microsoft because they spent a better part of 2 hours showing off their Exclusives. The only time they talked about a multi-platform game extensively was when they were showing Assassin's Creed 2.
Calling Nintendo a loser at E3 is harsh, they brought out Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the new Metroid Game co-developed by Team Ninja. Those both look great and no one saw them coming. - kinseyincanada, on 06/03/2009, -6/+28actually they only really announced FF14 and that Rockstar game the rest we had already known about but holy ***** GoW3 looked amazing
- Leminnes, on 06/03/2009, -4/+25I. Want. Zelda. Don't get me wrong, I loved Galaxy, but I want a Zelda Wii trailer or something please.
- tidu, on 06/03/2009, -4/+24but i LIKE IT
- SketchaMPM, on 06/03/2009, -0/+20...and she sucks at playing Mario.
- Slym, on 06/03/2009, -3/+23Don't disregard ModNation which was also debuted.
The new MGS PSP game too. - DRNOOO, on 06/03/2009, -3/+22The Wii has the most million selling games by far"? GTFO. From wikipedia I counted 35 for XBox 360 and 33 for Wii. Not to mention you are actually including Wii Sports and Wii Play into your totals which is a joke since Wii Sports is bundled with the Wii and Wii Play is bundled with a controller. That is like counting Solitaire that comes with Windows OS in a list of the top selling video games of all time. If that is how Nintendo wants to count their sales, then Micrsoft should claim Solitaire as the best selling game of all time with something like 2-3 billion copies sold?
GOOD ***** POINT ! - kefkaantakrist, on 06/03/2009, -0/+19True - I bought it on sale when it was actually *cheaper* than a Wiimote, and practically threw the game away after the first day it sucked so bad.
But, even though it was a packin, Nintendo really did get (practically) $50 for every Wii Sports. The story is that Nintendo wanted to sell the Wii for $200 with no game but retailers pushed for a $250 price and Nintendo compromised by giving us Wii Sports "for free".
So Nintendo has (practically) made over $2 Billion in profit on Wii Sports, a game I can't help but think that a group of 3 guys put together one weekend while they were bored. - machineghost, on 06/03/2009, -5/+23Ummmm ... have you seen the statistics on console ownership? If you only count this generation of consoles, Wii is OWNING everyone else; there are like 2x or 3x as many Wiis out there as PS3s. Even if you don't limit it to the current generation (ie. even if you include PS2) I think Wii is still the top dog, just not by as much.
In any case my point is that, by any objective measurement, the Wii has in fact "taken over the world" (well, unless you take that phrase literally, in which case you are an idiot for expecting a gaming console to become a global despot). - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+19You guys are all wrong. They're ALL ripping off the Game Boy Camera...right?
- arock99, on 06/03/2009, -10/+28burried...
ps3 and 360 are playing catchup...
i own all 3 systems...use the ps3 only for blu-rays, i never play the 360, and only play the wii.
looks like i will be playing the 360 though finally because of the motion thing they annouced...i've always prefered using a mouse on a computer for 1st person shooters....and then the wii came along and pointing and shooting is just the way to go - Nealobus, on 06/03/2009, -13/+31I love this argument. So, because it sells more it is better?
So, with that logic, Brittney Spears and New Kids on the Block are better bands than Tool and Unkle because they have sold more albums?
I refuse to get into a debate with someone who listens to Brittney Spears and jerks off to two new Mario Games on a system that has been under their couch for the better part of a year.
For more laughs, do a YouTube search for "Worthington's Law" to see a sketch on this style of logic. - gizmo12688, on 06/03/2009, -1/+18Wow, a logical and non-biased post. Congrats! You will lead a happy life!
- staticneuron, on 06/03/2009, -19/+36Holy fanboy batman! How on earth did you get so many diggs?
What vs what? How can you say MS was big while downplaying Sony's presentation. As it stands Sony announced 1st and second party stuff we knew was comming and MS did the exact same thing The only difference is that the reveal for MS conferance was for a Multiplatform MGS while sony announce two more 3rd party console "exclusives".
It never seems to amaze me the fan fare over games going multi (GTA, FFXIII, MGS:Rising) and complete ignorance over actual exclusives announced (FFversusXIII, FFXIV, MGS4, Agent).
Even natal and the sony motion thing are somewhat similar.
And I really hope you aren't going to bring up facebook and twitter integration..... those features PS3 owners have been enjoying (and many more) because the PS3 has a web browser. - skankyBacon, on 06/03/2009, -2/+18"And yet, with Sony showing off Assassin's Creed 2, Gran Turismo 5 and Uncharted 2 and their stunning visuals and the Xbox providing a new Halo, Left4Dead 2 and Forza 3..."
"Let's put this in perspective, Mario will always reign supreme – but Nintendo has been back to that particular well many, many times now..."
Yeah, stupid Nintendo! Always milking their franchises instead of coming up with new stuff every year like Gran Turismo *5*. - NathanielJ, on 06/03/2009, -9/+25According to this E3 there are two new Mario games and a new Metroid coming out. If neither of those interest you, why did you get a Wii in the first place?
- AlucardX24, on 06/03/2009, -5/+21I don't think anyone lost. They all had the same amount of dumb *****, and the same amount of awesome games.
- EtherGnat, on 06/03/2009, -4/+20"Nintendo ripped off Sony's Eyetoy for their motion sensor."
Say what? The two technologies have almost nothing to do with each other, and there are earlier precedents anyway. Hell, the EyeToy wasn't even the first camera for a console, predated at least by the Dreamcast Dreameye.
If you want to say the Wii was copying something choose something better, like the Microsoft Sidewinder Freestyle Pro joystick or the prototype Dreamcast motion controller: http://www.gwn.com/articles/article.php/id/745/p/1 ...
Seriously though, people are way too concerned with who copied who. There are very few radical ideas. Who can perfect and popularize a technology is much more important. -
