- Zarokima, on 05/27/2009, -2/+61Now all we need are more good games.
- mike648, on 05/27/2009, -1/+43Who would have thought that targeting a broader audience sells more units?
- robdazomba, on 05/27/2009, -2/+23Yeah, too bad Nintendo didn't listen to all the hardcore gamer marketing geniuses here on Digg.
- neilk85, on 05/27/2009, -1/+21wow, while that is an interesting stat i was amazed by the PS3 vs XBox360 comparison.
From all the talk about how slow PS3 was getting out of the gates and the lack of games for it, it actually outsold the 360 significantly during its first 2.5 years on the market....interesting - inactive, on 05/27/2009, -1/+19I still turn my wii on every other day.
/the silent minority. - SkippyDoorknob, on 05/27/2009, -0/+15My dog recently slipped out through the open gate. I'm pretty sure he was heading to Gamestop to pick one up.
- inactive, on 05/27/2009, -3/+18Addendum: 45 million families now enjoy playing games together, courtesy of their Wii.
- TobiasParker, on 05/27/2009, -17/+31Related Statistic:
45 Million clueless middle aged women now own Wii's
5 Million of us bought a gaming system for Zelda and Mario - bradleyland, on 05/27/2009, -2/+15The PS3 makes a damned good Blu-Ray player, in addition to being a great gaming console. It has broader appeal than the XB360.
- WhoDoneIt, on 05/27/2009, -0/+13Just remember this one thing...
When you leave your parents basement for someone elses mom, you're leaving yours behind, alone. - BrownieMix, on 05/27/2009, -0/+12Now if only Nintendo could bring that large community together with great online play....
- diggcommentguy, on 05/27/2009, -2/+13Haven't heard that one since the name was announced 3 years ago. Seriously.
- diggduggDOOM, on 05/27/2009, -6/+16Good job, Nintendo.
My Wii has been gathering dust for 7 or 8 months now. I unplugged it from my system to bring to a friend's party and never bothered to re-connect it. - braineater2448, on 05/27/2009, -7/+16Grats Wii. Lets hope for a Zelda or Mario at E3 in a week.
- Benad, on 05/27/2009, -1/+10Me too. I'm playing Megaman 9, Sam & Max season 1 and once I'm finished with them I'll play Metroid Prime 3. I guess I'm not "hardcore" enough...
- KSUdesigner, on 05/27/2009, -0/+8Gravey9...you do not add an apostrophe when making something plural. You are correct, except for the apostrophe. Apostrophes indicate contractions or possession.
- Sanctums, on 05/27/2009, -5/+12@robdazomba
Wow...Someone is projecting pretty hard. - markf3388, on 05/27/2009, -3/+10Who else would they sell em to?
- Mayday, on 05/27/2009, -1/+8I just keep hoping they are pumping this profit into research and development so next generation they can actually provide a real console to go along with their great control scheme. Not a Nintendo hater by any means. The Wii is a great toy for the family, but I still had to get a 360 to go along with it.
- Dauntless1, on 05/28/2009, -0/+7@KSUdesigner
Really? I've found gamer chicks to be some of the horniest freaks ever. - samard2002, on 05/27/2009, -8/+15I own a Wii and it's probably been turned on 10 times max.
- jaytek13, on 05/27/2009, -5/+11I love my Wii... a year and a half ago. Today it just kinda sits there, unplayed. 3rd party companies really need to figure out a way to make money on the best selling console ever. It wouldn't be so hard, if they stopped making stupid "family" games. I know a ton of people my age who own and loved the Wii, just as I did. Wii bowling can only be fun for so long though.
Well, drunken Wii bowling is still fun... but even so. 3rd parties! Stop churning out crap! - Dauntless1, on 05/28/2009, -0/+6And the difference between the value of your comment and his? That's right, nothing.
- jaytek13, on 05/27/2009, -1/+7Erm... Do you own a Wii? Do you know how many games have been produce for it, labeled as "family games" that are absolute crap? For ever 1 good game on the Wii, there are 30 crap "family games" and I mean crap.
Give me Mario Party, give me Wii Sports, if you wanna make family games that are worth playing then go for it. But that's not what's happening with the Wii. 3rd parties are spewing out the crappiest low budget games they can to make a few bucks off of parents that don't know any better. - wing05, on 05/27/2009, -1/+6Holy ***** pieces of ***** zombies!
House Of The Dead: Overkill
Only on Wii.
Too bad it's so short though. - damack, on 05/27/2009, -1/+6lmao well said.
Just goes to show just cause its popular on the intranets it doesn't mean much in the real world. - TobiasParker, on 05/28/2009, -2/+7But 3rd parties don't and that is where the majority of good games come from. There are only so many Halos and Marios to go around.
- KSUdesigner, on 05/27/2009, -2/+7You're a gamer and a digger...I think you're exaggerating a bit with the having sex part.
- kefkaantakrist, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4... and I still call BS on that number. They sell the Wii for $200 in Japan, without a game, then in the US they throw in a piece of plastic in a cardboard holder and tack on $50 to the price.
So clearly they are making at least $50 in profit on each console sold.
(Sure, Wii Sports didn't fall out of the sky - it cost money to develop. But the development costs don't scale with units sold.) - robdazomba, on 05/27/2009, -6/+10Your mother wants her basement back.
- Dauntless1, on 05/28/2009, -1/+5I'm married, and have children. Think I've got that kissing thing covered. Guess what? Enjoyment of a video game or console is subjective, and has nothing to do with your social life. Different people like different games, and no matter how much it fries your brain, generalization of subjective content = fail.
- trav6, on 05/27/2009, -4/+8Kids....
- azbmr, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4I don't mean exclude them, just all the noise we heard about PS3 being slow out of the gate and not selling was over here in the US. I'm guessing that it sold just fine in other places (most notably in Japan where Sony is based).
- kefkaantakrist, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4Good point. I had assumed the Wii was manufactured in China, but either way it's going to cost more to ship it to US than to Japan. However, I still doubt it adds $50 to the price.
- Flamekebab, on 05/28/2009, -1/+5Lego is already plural. Like "sheep". "Legos", along with sounding rather Elf-like, is incorrect.
As for "Lego's"..
..well, it pained me to even write that. Apostrophes are not used for pluralising things. STOP IT. - sigmaman2, on 05/27/2009, -2/+6It's simple...they expanded the audience. The Wii appeals to people that would like to play games, but are loathe to learn button commands. The Wiimote and Wii Fit are perfect for them. You don't press "X" to swing the bat...you just swing the bat.
At the same time, I think they also created a new class of console too. While the PS3 and XBox are the "hardcore" consoles, the Wii seems to be more of a "softcore" console. PS3 and XBox gave us better graphics, faster processors, Blu-Ray, etc. fro the hardcore gamer that demands those things. Wii gave us a more human interface, for the softcore gamers that are just getting into gaming, and discovering what they want. - Mullinator, on 05/28/2009, -0/+4Hello, I think I'm cool because I like to say I bought a Wii and then quit playing it.
No one cares about your play habits. Stop with the idiotic cliches already. No one cares if your Wii is collecting dust. - bigsheldy, on 05/28/2009, -2/+6bought mine the day it came out...wii+homebrew channel=awesome
- NeoTechni, on 05/28/2009, -3/+6sales =/= fun
games = fun
Wii = sales
DS = sales
PSP = games
PS3 = games
360 = games
Yeah, we're crying all right - NeoTechni, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3Big surprise, an XBOX site says XBOX sold better
- Vanor, on 05/27/2009, -0/+3Yeah, but it was still fun as hell. Especially coming from Sega.
- frygar, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3Nostradamus here thinks that the Wii is destined to fail because it is the spiritual successor to the hula hoop.
Stay classy, Digg! - ceralon, on 05/27/2009, -1/+4Agreed. So 1980s lol
How many times is that stupid bitch princess going to be kidnapped and Mario has to save her? If I were Mario I'd kill the bitch for leaving the castle.. or answering the door. Always making me go rescue the bitch. - kinseyincanada, on 05/27/2009, -1/+4house of the dead overkill, its a great M rated rail shooter and a ton of fun.
- KSUdesigner, on 05/27/2009, -0/+3You could've just posted the wikipedia link instead.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii - kefkaantakrist, on 05/28/2009, -2/+5As opposed to selling consoles to retailers who can't get rid of them. There have been a few times when console makers have quoted "consoles sold" as the number shipped to retailers, which is a bit misleading if those consoles are just going to sit on store shelves.
- cuervoman914, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3man, what a tough crowd. but it still stands, as many say, same ***** different toilet. and there are good games for it, but bloom box, world of goo, and deblob are all available on pc.
- KSUdesigner, on 05/27/2009, -1/+4That's a load of ***** and you know it. Of the big 3, Nintendo is the only one to make a profit directly from their console. They don't have to sell games in order to profit, they just need to sell the console (of course game sales sure don't hurt). Nintendo hasn't said exactly how much they make on each console, but reports are about $6 each. That's $300 million they've made in profit so far.
http://kotaku.com/5100646/so-how-much-money-does-n ... - cuervoman914, on 05/28/2009, -2/+5i walk the and talk the talk. and dauntless is right.
- frygar, on 05/28/2009, -0/+3Mad World and No More Heroes.
Give it up, haters, I haven't seen anything quite as hardcore as HotD:Overkill on any system, ever. Let me know if and when the 360 gets its own grindhouse game. -
