- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -4/+27Not necessarily. Nintendo made a conscious decision not to rewrite this game for the Wii, instead porting it from the GameCube. While I don't agree with this from an artistic standpoint - we've already seen that the Wii is capable of much better graphics even from first generation titles - to say that the Wii is nothing more than a GameCube based on one software title is a bit misleading.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -5/+23Nobody in their right mind is expecting 360- or PS3-level graphics for 250 bucks. It's like buying a car. There's no way in hell anyone is expecting a BMW 3 Series experience for the price of a Honda Accord. Everyone who has researched the Wii for more than three seconds knows this, and has made their purchasing decision accordingly.
You've put down the Wii in every single post from here until Tuesday for the graphics, but did you stop for a second to think that - just maybe - graphical prowess isn't the number one priority for every gamer out there?
(goes back to playing FFV Advance) - MrBabyMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21BTW, this is a response to this post:
http://digg.com/gaming_news/Nintendo_s_new_Zelda_falls_flat - Artifez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19The comments sections on joystiq are freaking hilarious, I haven't seen that kind of fanboy vitrol in a while.
- PenguinODoom, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Yeah dude, have fun with your AWESOME GRAPHICS... The console was not made to contend with the others in that sense, it is innovative, and it is something new. There is one single game that is being ported from Gamecube to the Wii, this is the case for any of the Wii games coming out at launch.
- Methodius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Joystiq is a seething cauldron of loathing.
- ionbattle, on 10/12/2007, -8/+18"I concur."
Yeah, uhhh could you just +digg the comment next time... it means the same thing and wastes less space. - JOJOFACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11For the record, Ocarina of Time on the 64 "looked good" and still does.
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11define "looks good"?
its possible for very ***** looking games to be made for the PS3/360 just like its possible for beautiful games to come out for the Wii. I will agree that the Wii isn't as powerful as its competition but that doesn't mean that its not 'powerful enough' for most people.
IMO one of the most beautiful and well structured games ever made was Super Mario World for the SNES. Its still a beautiful game today and I still play it on occasion. The Wii has more then enough graphical power. Its more powerful then anything from the past generation and I didn't see anyone bitching about them back then. Just because things have gotten faster doesn't mean we need the extra power for decent games. - Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9@zen
No they wouldnt, because it just wouldnt sell well. Why invest your money into making add on that wont sell well (and while your competitors are making new systems), when you could make a whole new system and make millions off of it.
And id like to stress the fact that the Wii is not a gamecube. Just because that one nintendo guy (forgot who said it) said that the hardware is essentially the same as gamecube, doesnt mean that it IS a gamecube. Especially not graphics wise. Alot of Wii launch titles look better than anything on the cube save RE4. And those are just first gen games.
Further more, Wii haters need to find a better argument then "zomg the wiis graphics suck! lol!" its getting really old. - vroom171, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Joystiq's bias against the Wii is absolutely pathetic, not because I am a fanboy, but because their arguements are baseless.
It is as if they evaluate consoles purely based on graphics and not on gameplay. However, it is a well-known fact that gamers matriculate to consoles based off of gameplay rather than grahpics (Xbox had the best graphics in the previous generation, yet many gamers went to PS2 for GTA, Final Fantasy, and other quality games).
The Wii will do the same. While it is the weakest console in terms of graphics in this next gen platform (might I remind everyone the PS2 was the weakest in the last gen), Nintendo has set themselves up to deliver the best possible gameplay experience, which, as we have seen, is the key formula for success.
I, personally, will do my best to stop reading Joystiq's blatently biased journalism. - Simon80, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11thanks for restating the obvious.... why do people waste their time arguing about this?
- NipGrip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Joystiq exists soley to rile up gamers into arguing with each other in the comments section to inflate their traffic and in turn ad revenue. They do a disservice to the gaming industry and gamers alike with about 99% of their articles.
- JOJOFACE, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Yeah, no kidding. Am I the only one who thought that Wind Waker was brilliant?
- dugbay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@Live
Hmmmm. if you think windwaker was a snoozefest then you should try to PLAY windwaker. - AmishRefugee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10someone on here said that Joystiq always seems to have a negative bias towards everything about the Wii, and now that i hear that, it seems to be a pretty accurate statement
- quamb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Windwaker was incredible - critics and gamers alike see it to be a masterpiece - too bad you didn't enjoy it...
- ionbattle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I agree.
Many people abuse the feature simply because someones opinions don't coincide with their own no matter how intelligent or well put they are, and that seems silly to me.
The Wii might be good, it might not, but the unique control scheme and launch lineup make me very interested in it. The price point isn't bad either. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's amazing, I agree... Nowhere even comes close to it. Digg is close, but at least it is semi-moderated. Joystiq is a sticky Nintendo circle-jerk, unchallenged.
- bryrb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"[Editorial disclosure: my two cats are named Link and Zelda, so I may not be considered the most neutral party.]"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yup, I'm not the only one who noticed that. Need me more Joystiq-ad-buck$ It's a horrible gaming blog... and they're so slow to post material. When they do, it's usually something that's been on digg for the last 8 hours. I stopped going there a long time ago.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What!? Joystiq is a love child of Nintendo. They hate everything non-Nintendo, where have you been?

BRILLIANT reviews. - jsleeman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't want voice overs, link has been around for so long and has so many faces, I don't have any idea what he should or would sound like. I fear they would butcher the voice. maybe having a narrator, now that I wouldnt mind.
- Geekbeard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The sword of that Link miniature in the picture looks very phallic.
- avktm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2voice overs suck, they don't speak english
- LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Oh really? Huh. The graphics were great, but the battles and puzzles were all so easy, compared to previous installments. And then there was the endless boating...so much fricking boating...
Anyway, I guess I'm alone on this one. Could be just that everything's been a disappointment after the awesomeness of Mario Sunshine. - lordkosc, on 10/12/2007, -11/+11OMG!!! Joystiq actually has a positive comment about something Wii related?
*dies* - lansuggs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, even Joystiq's postive article about the Wii has a clear bias against Nintendo. I would rather trust sources for reviews in unbiased reviewers. The vast majority of users on boards and reviewers like Gamestop have figured Zelda is set to compete in the eschelons of Gears of War for great games. This review makes it sound like it is based on an underlying assumption that it is set to be a bad game, and they're making it out to be a mediocre game. Please.
Nick22 is right on the money. To add to that, I would be perfectly content with graphics on the level of RE4, and by extension the Wii. As most know the PS2 version had inferior graphics, with only some added features. As a 360, cube, and future Wii owner, I can see that the difference, graphically, between RE4 or Zelda, and Gears of War or initial screens of FF12/13 is minute. - TangentThought, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"someone on here said that Joystiq always seems to have a negative bias towards everything about the Wii"
The same could be said about the PS3 and xbox360. To put it fairly, Joystiq hates all of them equally. - matariel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1casual gamers go ape ***** over graphics. these are the people putting the wii down, not the hardcore gamers. real gamers don't care - if it has good games to play we'll buy it. we'll end up with all 3 systems eventually.
console wars are retarded. it's school yard idiocy. - LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If it were on the PS3, though, it would look totally phallicker.
(jk, nintendo 4-evs) - LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Wow, even Joystiq's postive article about the Wii has a clear bias against Nintendo."
Um, he gives it a pretty positive review. In his summary, he essentially says that what others have cited as drawbacks don't adversely affect the fun factor -- so I don't see the bias here.
In fact, his only complaint is "I remain unconvinced that the Wiimote is the correct controller for this game," and that's right before he goes on to call it "brilliant." - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5People saying that graphics don't matter are failing to realize that Nintendo purposely skimped on graphic abilities to save money and shift money to that controller. It idn't a huge deal right now because we are only comparing it to PS2/Xbox and some first gen 360/PS3 titles. But would you have wanted a PSX 2-3 years after the PS2 launched or a SNES 2-3 years after the N64 launched? Hell, pop in an old PSX games and see how downright primitive it seems - that's how Wii games MIGHT feel in 2-3 years.
If you don't think graphics, which allows greater atmosphere, matter, play Gears of War for a couple hours, then come talk. - thatgirlismine, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8Perhaps it is that way to maintain balance in the universe.
The digg userbase seems to have a consistently positive bias concerning the Wii, to the point of digging down any dissenting opinions, whether or not they have merit. - poppa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Let's hope for voice overs for the next Zelda!
- ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6If the graphics weren't the issue, Nintendo could always just create an add-on peripheral for the Gamecube (like the SIXAXIS and Eyetoy and PS2 Guitar and the bongos and maracas and lightguns out there). Nintendo didn't, so it better be a big boy and accept that it will be knocked for graphics until it has more to show for itself.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I just broke wind, are you awake?
- LiveFastDieOld, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2"like every Zelda game to date, Twilight Princess offers the same brilliant core gameplay mechanics that have driven the series for the last twenty years."
I love the Zelda series as if Link were my own son -- but let's not forget what a total snoozefest "Wind Waker" was. Just thinking about it makes me seasick.
Still psyched for this baby, though. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -24/+12So you agree, Wii = Gamecube FTA:
"Yeah, it's a Gamecube game. It's a Gamecube game running on hardware that is (especially in this case) a Gamecube. " - gameguy43, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2"i think i'm smarter than you"
Yeah, uhhh could you just -digg the comment next time... it means the same thing and wastes less space. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -19/+5what pisses me off is that the game will never look ultra good. Graphically, wii is a much weaker console than PS3 or xbox 360.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -34/+6Hehe, you guys are so hurt that someone doesn't like your little Wii that you must ramp the propaganda campaign an additional notch. Enjoy that white GameCube.
"
it's clear that we're playing a GameCube game that's had motion-sensitive controls bolted on in order to move Wii boxes off of retailer shelves. Zelda will do that job admirably -- it will still sell in the millions. It will earn praise. But to compare this title to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 games isn't fair to the game. To give any Wii titles a fair shake, we're going to have to compare them to Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube games.
"
LOL - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -33/+3I concur.
