- pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -15/+89^^ Jealous Sony Fanboy.
- kkaabboomm, on 10/12/2007, -5/+68an estimated 1,500 to 2,000 people in line?
a 3 hour long wait when the doors to the convention OPEN?
wow. just...wow. - redivider, on 10/12/2007, -6/+67"LOL all I did was post a video of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY and I get modded down? Why?"
Because you're a douchebag.
How about you post a 10 minute video of a guy playing a PS3 or 360 game where the guy just sits there with his controller. Just because its boring to watch someone playing a game without being able to see the screen doesn't mean the games aren't fun.
That's like reviewing a movie by standing at the screen and facing the audience. - MuffinMan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+64Wiisistence is futile
-PA - yodandy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+59of course it stole the show, every single friggin other game shown is the same UE3 engine running with the same looking characters all smoldering with generic rage...the same controllers and same gameplay, oh wait now sony has TILT...fantastic
games were getting bland for me, now im more interested than ever...thank you nintendo - Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60Yeah, cause Guitar Hero gets old...and so does DDR...and Donkey Konga...
...or not. - m.sandstorm, on 10/12/2007, -10/+62Whooo! Wii got those Sony fanboys fired up!
- pdiddle, on 10/12/2007, -5/+56> "But I'm in IT"
Just because you use excel doesnt make you "in IT" - chris4404, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48Just goes to show innovation is key to bringing in new gamers. Not only has it stolen E3 but Wii has taken over the digg front page. Just look at the ratio of Wii stories to PS3/Xbox 360 that alone should show how interested people are in the platform.
- Dgen_X, on 10/12/2007, -3/+45hmm...N64 graphics you say
http://gamerfrance.verygames.net/dotclear/index.php?2006/05/11/111--news-wii-comparaison-graphique-gamecube-wii
I don't remember the N64 looking better than the Gamecube...oh well - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39N64 graphics? You should checkout the boss battle videos from Mario Galaxy.
- walterd93, on 10/12/2007, -16/+49^^i agree
- pjh3000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+36And all the PS3 stories are bashing it!
- tobiasproject, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35waahahah.. that video. looks like me at night without a controller
- Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33Yes, GMaldonado, I'm sure your getting modded down has everything to do with fanboyism and nothing to do with you calling everybody a fag.
- tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -8/+38I'd say 'steals show' is an understatement. They totally owned E3..
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+36Well, one system has been out for 8 months.
The other has a completely new and innovative approach to games.
The third one ripped off the best parts of the other two, and it did it half-assed.
Of course the WEE is going to own the show. Microsoft has 100% of the next gen right now and Sony's screwed. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29"the same looking characters all smoldering with generic rage"
What a brilliant characterization. Thank you. That so perfectly sums up what is wrong with all the "new" games coming out for the xbox and ps3, and I just haven't found such an ideal sentence. - FatMagic, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Either way you cut it or critique it, the Wii is going to blow the socks off everything. It's not even out yet, and it already is.
- honavery, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Wasn't the enitre show media only? And isn't it always like that?
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Xbox had it's turn, Ps3 will require lots of paper-route hours to get.. This leaves.. the Wii :)
- TroubleT, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22"Seriously, this controller will be a gee whiz for about 30 minutes"
That is almost the exact same thing people were saying about the DS. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+22Funny thing is; I'll bet in six months you'll be the very same "dork" in your living room swinging your arms around. Besides, you're probably just self counscious after being caught one too many times dancing on a ddr dance pad with his uber cool ps2.
- Ionik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16And if you get tired out from playing a video game, you need to set the controller down and get outside for a bit.
- davez0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"The Wii didn't show us anything different than we already new coming in."
Hmmm... let's see:
- speaker in the remote
- the classic controller
- Wii Connect 24
- Light Gun attachment
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Nothing new? These 5 only begin to scratch the surface of new Wii info released at E3... - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Jaymoon: Contgrats on your -80 diggs. Never saw a comment get burried that much.
Now about your claim the Wii controller will get old: Dual analog button mashing is old. It bores the hell out of me. I often find myself looking at a game and saying "yea it looks good but I don't want to spend hours sitting on my ass pressing buttons and moving sticks around to play it" If you still dig dual analog get a 360 of a PS3. Obviously lots of people want something new. The Revolution will go on without you. - ryllharu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I know a good number of people who play DDR and don't play any other "normal" games. Most of them are women. The Wii brings the same experience. Actively doing something, it brings people in. There are a lot of people who won't get near a DDR pad (myself included), but there are an equal number of people who will.
Moocat hit the idea exactly on. Nintendo is going to reel in tons of people because when you're playing it, it *looks* fun to play it, which a lot of standard games can't do. They've already achieved exactly what they wanted to do. - Arramol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Is it safe to re-name this year's convention to Wii3 yet?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Amazing how a lot of you can't even read. I'm surprised some people still believe you have to fly around the room to control the games. You can sit on the couch with a dick in one hand and the control in the other, flick your wrists as most of you are pros at anyway and still play the game fine.
My friend works on the Sony blu-ray team, he went to E3 and got to try the Wii on a couple of games. He said the controls were air tight, except aiming the bow and arrow with the nunchuck/remote in Zelda was a little difficult. Learning curve was only about 10-15 minutes, probably more like an hour though if you're not a big gamer. - Deemo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17@Rayonic
According to IGN and several other sources, it works just as well with the flick of a wrist. They purposefully exagerate because looking at somone who is flicking their wrist looks boring. - Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14You kind of remind me of the quote of the president of Warner Bros. saying "Who the hell wants to hear actors talk?" Every single great invention has been called a passing fad when they were announced, from electricity to cars. No big wonder many people are failing to see how revolutionary the Wii is.
- pdiddle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15> "and you can connect an n64 controller to it also."
Um, no, you can connect a gamecube controller to it. Well four actually. - SweetsGreen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"But I'm in IT - I love fancy new graphics and cool hardware."
Well IT boy.... most of the world is not as technically savy as you and does not care about polygons or MFLOPS....they only care about having FUN.
Nintendo knows this... they are going after "everyone else".... - jgreath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12For everyone saying this: "Swinging around your arm is a bit goofy looking"
Who gives a ***** what you look like in YOUR OWN HOUSE (or outside of it, for that matter)? If one of your guests makes fun of you for owning a "Wii" or looking like a fool playing a game, stand up for yourself and tell them to get the hell out. - corser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14As I understand it, Digg stories are put on the front page because enough people digg it. Don't worry, once E3 is over it should drop off.
- addicted44, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14@cbreaker
a) Most games are not fully developed. The purpose was to show the gameplay, rather than looks.
b) The games were running off development kits. Expect the Wii to have more HP than what was shown.
c) The graphics might not match upto the 360, or PS3, but do you really think that graphics = entertainment, or fun?
d) A lot of people who have actually played the games, especially FPS'es have said that using the controller is quite natural. Do keep in mind, within 15 minutes they managed to get used to the new controls and also start enjoying the games. That anyone can pick up an FPS's controls in under 15 minutes is quite fascinating, but add the fact that these are people who are mostly used to a different kind of control system (gamepads) then it becomes even more impressive. BTW, on what basis do you think the controls will be awkward? Were you at E3 playing any of those games?
On a different note, get done with the exactly same Wii articles already. Dont kill the buzz with unnecessary overexposure. This has started resembling the Apple boombox announcement. Every little thing gets trumped up so much. - Seacor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10It's great to see true innovation in the gaming industry. Thank you Nintendo for not pursuing the same path as Sony and Microsoft and releasing just another console that focuses on flashier graphics and same old gameplay. I am really excited about Wii.
- Moocat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I don't know what article you read, but I specifically have seen three different first time users picking up the controls in under 5 minutes with very little direction. The videos are available everywhere, search "Wii" on Youtube for a quick glance.
The 360 AND the PS3 are being overlooked because they're just rehases of the same console and games with better graphics and speed. Most people these days have computers that are better and the only difference is in titles, not functionality. Last I checked, my computer didn't have a lot of games that were 4 player in the same room with one system and gyroscopic controls. Everything on the 360 and PS3 I've already seen and done and can do better on the PC. - DoctorShim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Talking about games getting old quick: All I saw from Sony was racing games and shooters. How old is that?! I still think Nintendo has a much more tempting package. $200 over against $600, a card slot for bigger storage, LOTS of cheap games... I'm a PC fanboy, so I am really trying to stay as least biased as possible. I read that the price might even drop to $150 over time. (Was a long time ago, don't have a link, might not even happen, etc.)
But still! Hot damn! - TheBrandman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I am not an elitist Nintendo fan.
I got N64 when I was 10 because it was new and had a Star Wars game.
I have PS2, and up until a few weeks ago I was really excited about the PS3. But this E3 they have done NOTHING to draw new fans to their product and have done a great job alienating the fans they already had. Sony just really dropped the ball with respects to PR by not having a playable model, showing off their bricolage of recycled concepts of a controller, and showing hardly any new ingame footage. It was their time to shoot down the Wii with their stellar graphics and new internet interface but Nintendo owned them with the Opera announcement and more details to the Virtual Console. That's why Nintendo has stolen this E3 spectacle right from under Sony's nose.
Good day. - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11"But I'm in IT - I love fancy new graphics and cool hardware"
What does being in IT have ANYTHING to do with graphics and cool hardware? You're the flunkies that are suppose to be keeping the damn server up and running and stop with the fricken upgrades and the messing around with the network. We have a job to do you bozos and you're messing everything up, our customers are going ballistic PLUS you lose all the work we did yesterday and didn't even have it backed up! Stop playing grab-ass with the console games and get back to work!
Um....sorry about that rant....we had a bad day yesterday....... - Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10As my previous comment above, I belive the xbox already had it's turn.
And I think Microsoft wanted that, now they have full time to show off upcoming games, and what is "under the hood". - cmckinla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I haven't always been a big fan of Nintendo (I got bored with their products after the SuperNES), but whether or not the Wii is a success, I admire their willingness to take risks.
- SoccerBoy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I make planty of stupid faces placing video games anyways... doesn't make me not want to play
- BrandonMills, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8DDRfans welcome you to the world of 'looking like a fool' :)
- humanpowered, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The thing to be heard by all nay-sayers is that, if it was crap, people would have said so, and many people would not have wasted their time in line. Truth is, Nintendo nailed it whether you want to believe it or not.
- drsnacks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Re: that video.
Hmm. Lets just say there's a reason official Wii PR shows pretty people operating it. Bearded chub-ub monotonously jerking wand up and down = not cute. - drsnacks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"You can sit on the couch with a dick in one hand and the control in the other"
:O
Sold! - pdiddle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13> "I went to E3. "
But they didn't let you in :( Lies on the internet make you cooler. - jdavid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You know i am one of those gamer dorks and i will probably own all 3, this however is sony's worst nightmare if the wi and xbox are more fun. after all the PS3 will loose about 300$ per ps3 sold. This 300$ is currently being justified through game and blu-ray sales. If i buy a PS3 and and up using HDDVD, HDIPTV, and end up playing my games on xbox live or with the Wii. Sony is going to loose billions in revenue. They are playing a dangerous game and it will most likely hurt them at this point.

What is Digg?
