- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To be more specific Nintendo was founded in 1889, and as I said they made trading cards.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Holy cow... nintendo is actually younger than Microsoft and Apple?"
Nintendo has been around a lot longer than Microsoft and Apple. Nintendo didn't start out as a video game company, they first made hanafuda cards before Yamauchi made the move to cabinets and so on. - AUGTRON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...and the rest of us have to suffer through looking at dupes on the front page...
suffer? You have to be kidding me...do you suffer from clicking the down arrow about three times, to find a non-dupe ten minute old story that isn't lame. There's a reason that this got on the main page. People found it interesting to them and had never seen it before so they dugg it. In the time it took you to comment I'm sure you could have found somethign that interested you. After all that's why your a Digg member; at least some of the stuff interests you. Typing DUPE or LAME as comments to a story doesn't make you sound like a cool hardcore tech geek because you only like tech-related stories, and isn't gunna stop people from Digging it so deal with it.
"Scrolling down...O the Humanity!!" - porkstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0happy birthday?
- Function, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just bought one again recently.. and damn the replay factor is still just as good. Happy Birthday NES
- 703_KN33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hooray for the NES.
- Linuxrocks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy cow... nintendo is actually younger than Microsoft and Apple?
No, Nintendo made playing cards before their first console was released. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0another milestone? when will it stop.
- digg - padewak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0happy birthday NES!!! I remember playing Donkey Kong at the "Dream Machine" Arcade. When NES came out, my buddy and I were 13 and we thought it was a gift from the heavens!!! play unlimted video games at home? are you kidding me? SWEET! just had to convince parents to buy it! :) I think our first hack was to lift the panel of the game and find the new game button so we could play for hours with the same quarters visible on the machine!!! :) great memories!!
- danio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no, nintendo is wayyyyy older than microsoft and apple, neocitron for colds and flu
- Katore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In the article, they state:
"In the interim, Nintendo's consoles included the Nintendo 64 and the current GameCube."
I can't believe they didn't mention the Super Nintendo! Why mention 2 and not the 3rd?
Anyway, the Super Nintendo is still my favorite console of all time. I spent way too much time on that system...good times. - Venator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Today is my 20th birthday too, I have the best birthday ever!
- padewak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0gotta clear up some *****. the hack was in the arcade on the DK game. also did the same thing on a pacman game at a well known dept store. :) I bet the lock them friggin things down tight today!! hehehehehe
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Today is my 20th birthday also. But I got the system when I was 5 or 4 or something... And I always thought that's when it came out because I remember my parents getting it was a big deal, and all the other kids were just getting it and trying to beat Mario...
- EarthBoundX5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0nintendo (the company) is like 116 years old
- fastfood15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0""Old crap"? The digg is only about five hours old as of this comment, and the article itself came out today. Aside from that, I don't see anything else about the story that you could call "old."
Dupes, Wikipedia links, old stories, and links to store catalogs ("Get this hard drive cheap!") are indeed a major problem here and show up far more often than they should, but this story is not any of those."
Naw i saw some posts w week ago or so that was celebrating somthing to do with Nintendo. Ill admit that the article isnt old, but i think there was some previous post about it, although if im wrong, and i am starting to this i was a little to rash, i still am going to run through the streets yelling happy birthday NES!!!! - thecrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Still play it a lot.
- CronicusX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But, uh, yea, Happy Birthday!
- Pburgdwller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dugg
- CronicusX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In my personal opinion, the Revolution is the best looking game console. Probably because it looks clean and simple. I hope the controller will be well used for shooters. THat'll be cool!
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Holy cow... nintendo is actually younger than Microsoft and Apple?
- SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Dude, that's my birthday too! I was four years old on that day. Now I have another reason to love Nintendo, I guess, maybe, well I'll have to think about that one. But what really rules is that NESes from that time still work today, after you blow all the dust out of the cartridge. Yet my PS2 from 3 years ago and my PS2 from 5 years ago don't work at all. It's amazing how far the industry has come.
- Lionhart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just edited 1985 events in Wikipedia to show this event. Yay for me :D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_18#Events
- ishmael5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, on the same day as the NES's birthday, there's also an article on the front page of digg about the happy birthday song...I'd like to motion that we all sing the birthday song that Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force wrote.
- Breadstick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I saw something about this on digg a while ago. The NES patent expired, so third party companies are manufacturing there own NES systems. Cool stuff.
- Timsher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*goes to play "Donkey Kong" on his NES*
Happy B-Day to the flashiest console ever (anyone with an old NES knows to what I refer :) ) - BxBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hooray.. Happy birthday Mario, you changed my life 4ever! :D
- rc_collins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is old, not news.

PS. Someone is always bound to say it! - TK99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I got mine the Christmas of '85.
I was 5 years old and I never looked back.
For all the Old G's 8-bit still the most badd ass generation of them all. - Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The thing about the NES was that it was a console that the whole family __actually__ played. For whatever reason, it was the device that standardized the video game system as stock furniture in every living room.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm so old. 20 years. sheesh.
I remember my grandmother babysitting me, and getting sick of listening to the repetive music for Super Mario Bros. So she took me down to the store and asked the clerk to sell her the best game. I was so shocked that I got a new game (Zelda), it was awesome, she drove me home and I could barely speak I was just kind of stunned. Of course Zelda had repetive music too, but slightly less so. :) - pHr34kY, on 10/12/2007, -0/+020 years on and it's still my fav game :)
Although the article neglected the fact that Nintendo did actually release a console between the NES and the N64... n00bs. - fastfood15, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i cant belive old crap like this can get on the front page. Perhaps digg is getting to big and theres now 27 stupid ppl that will click on any story just becasue, and the rest of us have to suffer through looking at dupes on the front page.
