- gokss, on 10/12/2007, -37/+158Wii - The best game console i have ever seen....
- doctorfungi, on 10/12/2007, -28/+136Those who play Wii are not compensating for their penis size with a BluRay drive.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -7/+104How is this even possible? I live in southern California and I've yet to see one on the shelves. It's like Nintendo bred them with unicorns or something.
- Edrick, on 10/12/2007, -3/+85The Wii is a gaming console. This is the gaming section. Why is this so hard for you to understand, Junkyard?
- bobbagoose, on 10/12/2007, -11/+91I predict that Wii will outsell 360 by September.
- AntBing, on 10/12/2007, -3/+73Now maybe they will focus on giving us a better online experience. That's all thats missing from my Wii. Is it so wrong to want online multiplayer in a few games?
- Augie1969, on 10/12/2007, -3/+42God...I hate to do this...
Step 1: Buy a wii
Step 2: Invite your girlfriends' girlfriends over to play wii sports
Step 3: watch giggling girls' bouncing boobies
you can imagine the rest :) - ahhell, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31They would be way beyond 6 million if Nintendo could meet the demand.
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32first off, imanpc101, that's what she said.
Second, with the new GTA4 trailer coming out in a few days, it should start sparking some hype for the 360 again. It's definitely possible now for the Wii to surpass the 360, but I can see the 360 surging back ahead at the end of this year (Mass Effect, Bioshock, GTA4... it's a hardcore gamer's dream). This isn't to say the Wii doesn't also have a strong upcoming library, but I think it's going to be a close race for these two consoles all the way to the 20 million mark. - SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Wii puns were funny for around thirty seconds after the name was announced. Now they are just irritating.
- GliTCH82, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25I'm a 360 fan, but I'm going to have to concede that no matter how awesome the most anticipated 2007 titles on the 360 turn out, even if every single one of them is a perfect seller and people pickup 360s just to play them, the Wii will still sell more. The Wii has broader appeal and their marketing strategy is just brilliant, even people who have never touched a video game console are getting on the Wii. Its price is also worthy of attention.
The 360 caters to a different crowd. Now, I like my gaming 360/PC style, but I am also considering a Wii here just because the Wiimote doesn't ever stop being so much fun. They could have packaged the Wii as one of those toys that only have just one title on it, only Wii sports and nothing else. No expansions, no other games, just Wii sports and two Wiimotes for the entire life of the thing, and it still would have sold. - matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Play one round of Tiger Woods PGA Tour on the Wii and you will see the draw... or slice... :p
- CheezIt9109, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23Unless you're a PC Gamer, you have been entertaining a "distraction" for all previous consoles (apart from the XBox).
I happen to be a PC Gamer. I also happen to not be retarded. I enjoy both forms of entertainment, and I have to say, there are many times I find myself enjoying a game of Wii Sports with good friends far more than the latest, greatest, FPS, RTS, or any other "more hardcore" game. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+23@n0n4m3
nexgenwars has been far from accurate on many occasions. - shredomatic, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Then need to make more so I can ***** buy one
- otatop, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31Oooohh, a screenshot from vgcharts! What undeniable evidence!
I like the Wii and all, but using vgcharts as a source for sales is just plain silly. - BlackholeStorm, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22@bobbagoose
Yeah, the Wii may outsell the 360 by september, but then Halo 3 gives the 360 a boost. This war is nowhere near over. - andre4u, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Stevemax: just have them view this comic: http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20070326

People who want information about the Wii don't look under industry news. - DraconWolf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18Yes, but Graphics tend to ENHANCE gameplay. No one can tell me that they'd rather have a 480p version of Zelda over a 720p version had Nintendo decided to make it. That's like choosing to use Composite Cables on an HDTV. I love the Wii and I think it's a great console but having HD games wouldn't be a bad thing. I still bought the Wii on launch day and I completely don't regret that. But I just wish I could have better graphics to enhance my experience further.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Do you guys have adjoining rooms in the basement of your parents' house?
- xerus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12huh? VGCharts adds together MediaCreate, NPD, and the Europe numbers and presents them. Thats it. I dont see what would be uncredible about that.
- rolosworld, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Im having some overheat problems with my wii, when its on standby (wiiconnect24) it gets reaaaally hot, does anyone has the same problem? is there a fix for this?? I have not updated my wii for a couple of months so I don't know if this got fixed....
- Enjoikr3w, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13@Fox318
Apparently you don't know that the Wii is pretty much an SNES console...
...and an NES and a Sega Genesis and a N64 and a Turbografx-16. - kivimaki, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Yeah, the other consoles are distractions, but just not as much fun, right?
- braineater2448, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13Zelda, Wario, Paper Mario, Sonic, Metal Slug Anthology are all out and are all great games. Many many more to come.
- borchard76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9The wii released in mid november, remember. That means, that they have sold about 1.5 MILLION units since that time--4 months and a bit. At 4.3 weeks/month, that means they are selling a touch more than 350,000 a week, or 70,000/day. You do realize that it can't be really easy to manufacture, package, and deliver that many consoles, don't you? I suspect that if they could make them any faster, they would.
I think that if they want to sell anymore in a month, they'll need to start thinking about additional manufacturing facilities, which ain't gonna come cheap. No, I suspect that they'll stay the course on this one. I'm guessing they really are selling them as fast as they can put the systems together.
(Oh, and how many extra controllers are they making per system--up to three, which means that the part of the line doing that has to work MUCH faster than the other lines--great!) - tg16, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hopefully the Wii be easier to find by then.
- Matt174e, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Ahead of schedule?
With only a week left, I would simply call their prediction accurate.
Either way. Good job Nintendo. - walkingdogs, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14These "gamers" who bitch about consoles not having HD graphics or whatever garbage they spew on about on how their respective console looks graphically superior is just a sign that they are too cheap to buy a PC and invest in a REAL gaming system. Now don't get me wrong, I love my Wii, and do wish they would get their act together when it comes to online gaming, and I play my neighbors xbox 360 on a regular basis, I won't buy a PS3 (I have been boycotting SONY for years now), but consoles to me have always seemed like the posers method of gaming (easy and accessible). Also in about a year or so when we are a full generation into DX10 software and hardware, as it is with every console cycle, all 3 of these systems will be significantly lacking graphically compared to the PC and as usual the graphics war will fade and we will go back to talking about what games are the best to PLAY not look at. I also cant wait for PC xbox live so these console "gamers" can see how to really play a FPS and get their asses handed to them by the mouse and keyboard and us gamers who have used them all along.
- gmanolatos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I'm happy that the Wii is doing so well, but i've been finding myself sneaking into my brother's room and playing with the Xbox360 lately. No doubt I'll be back to the Wii when some AAA games (i.e. SSBB, Mario Galaxy, Metroid) and online are released. Anyone who is still griping about graphics is an idiot—it's all about the games and gameplay.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9@azimuth
microsoft only SHIPPED 10 million 360s to distributors. they didnt sell 10 million to real CUSTOMERS. the wii on the other hand actually SOLD 6.03 million to CUSTOMERS. - notredamegrad, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12The Wii is fun but im an adult and I want adult games...im not saying all I want is blood and gore and swear words. But I do want something besides mario or one of his off-shoots. I bought the console because it is fun and cheap, but give me something to play...something worth $50. Zelda was awesome but there is no re-playability. Beat it once and its collecting dust, Medal of Honor...I liked it better on my reg xbox. Im tired of holding the wiimote in my hand thinking....I wonder if i can beat my bowling score.....again?
- sikosmurf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7@ rolosworld
I am not sure if this has been fixed or not, but I know there are many people who have complained about this. The problem is that the fan does not run while connect24 is active. This is an issue because many of wii's channels require you to have connect24 turned on to use them. - matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Direct Link to Chart: http://www.vgcharts.org/
- gmanolatos, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The first console-specific AAA title for Xbox 360 came out a year after its release (GoW). The first console-specific AAA title for the Wii came out on launch day (LoZ:TP). Paper Mario, Metroid, Mario Galaxy and SSBB will all be released this year, most likely, making that five in its first year. Give it a little time. The more quickly we want the games, the worse the game will be.
- powerpants, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Regarding the graphics...
I've been playing Twilight Princess on GC and don't mind the lower resolution. However, the system badly needs anti-aliasing. The jaggy lines are so distracting that I've had to compensate by making my TV blurry.
And after you've added anti-aliasing, do anisotropic texture sampling too. This aren't new techniques and they make a huge difference visually.
Does the Wii have these things or is it still a jag-fest? - gmanolatos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@draconwolf
Actually I will give you something else to consider:
If the Wii had a more ambitious GPU, something that would support HD and 720p, the price of the Wii would most likely be above $300 and would moot one of its selling points. From a businessperson's and casual gamer's aspect, the Wii hardware is a smart idea. From a hardcore gamer's POV, there are definitely some things lacking, no doubt. Nintendo decided to compromise and it paid off.
@powerpants
The reason why a lot of the games are jaggy is because developers thought the Wii was not going to sell as much as it has. EA for example decided to simply port their games from GC and simply add some Wiimote functionality to it. That's why so many of the games look like crap right now. As with any console, the better looking games are soon to come (look at GoW for Xbox, for example). - SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Yes, let's intentionally slow down the influx of money into the company. After all, why get it into the bank as fast as possible where it can earn interest? Investors just love it when the company they bought stock in keeps the revenue stream artificially low.
- bulio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8I live in Montreal Canada, and I was looking for a wii for a long time. I finally got a lucky break a week ago and ran over and bought it at a local futureshop. I can see why retailer's can't keep it on the shelves, its just so fun to play!
I've also played the Xbox 360, but it just didn't appeal to me the same way the wii does (Gears of war and oblivion were great though) and I consider myself a gamer.
Here's to shipping another 6 million! - Epyn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I lined up for a pre-order, so don't take this as flaming Nintendo, but I'm already feeling frustrated at the lack of good titles. It's been 2 months since I've seen anything, but fortunately Paper Mario is right around the corner. My main frustration is I was expecting Metroid or Mario or Smash to be launch titles, now we're looking at a year in for some of these.
And about this week's VC release: So many Sega games! What is up with that Nintendo, it's your damn service put out some Nintendo classics already. Sega and TG16 are filling the virtual console. - Epyn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It's not so much AAA games, the VC is what's been killing me. They release stuff like romance of the three kingdoms and such, and sit on tetris attack, super metroid, secret of mana, etc. When Nintendo reps said they'd be releasing three VC titles a week I thought they meant three Nintendo hardware titles a week, not 2 Sega games and one SNES/NES game.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I've owned mine since launch, and no new 'revolotionary' games.
I just received Cooking Mama with high expectations and am a little let down.
I still love that I have this thing, but I am becoming dissappointed by the lack of games that make use of Wii's potential. - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5They'd probably have sales figures 50% higher (or more) if they could actually get them to everyone who wants one. They're producing a ton, but the stores keep selling out. It's incredible!
- Kking199, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My wife had been casually looking for a few weeks. She went to a Sports store and decided to check the BB next door, this is in the D/FW area. It was about 8:30 PM. She walked up and there were 6 boxes, she picked one up and immediately 4 people came up and grabbed 1 each. At this point it's still just about being at the right place at the right time. Problem is no one really knows where and when these are!
My 3 kids love it and all we have is Wii sports and Excite Truck. I play it and all I do is think of the possibilities. I figure this Chistmas there will be a lot of good new games but IMO it will be Fall of 2008 when we see games really taking advantage of the system and it's possibilities. I am playing the boxing game and all I can think about is Mike Tyson's PunchOut... they have to remake this game!! - ezweave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not to be rude, but good anti-aliasing actually requires a good bit of processing and code (what pixels need to be grayed/blurred, color mixing, am I on the end of a segment, is the line even in the "camera" view, etc). The main purpose of it is to make images look better on systems with a lower pixel count. It is not a way to get better images, with less power. It is entirely possible that the games have poor anti-aliasing, versus none. Any real time graphics processing takes time (you can't just fake it like you can with shading, go go Phong in OpenGL).
And this is waaaay off topic. - clubmasta2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5And still I can't find one in the Seattle area
This is what I get for working on Sundays...and the fact that I gave up months ago. Get back to me in 12 million and maybe you'll have a happy customer. - artemus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Grumbel
The Gamecube had anti-aliasing. Since the Wii is based on Gamecube hardware, I don't see why they shouldn't have it. Also, Nintendo instructed third party developers that they should focus their initial efforts on game play, rather than graphics. - grumbel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4So far I haven't seen a single Wii game that does anti-aliasing, not Wii Sports, not Zelda, not even the Mii's have anti-aliasing and you really can't get more simple then displaying a single Mii and a bit of GUI. In theory the Wii should be able to do anti-aliasing, but since no title at all, not even first party ones ever used it, I kind of start to doubt that the Wii can do it at all.
Anti-Aliasing is not something that requires much programming at all, normally it should be a matter of a line or two of code, so I really don't see a reason to not use it unless the Wii either just can't do it or it has such a huge impact on the performance that its just not worth it. -
