- probune, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33If there is a Wii MMO, I hope it isn't awful like Maplestory.
- somekids, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17seriously, MapleStory is one of the worst games ever.
- Gabliaven, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11http://joongangdaily.joins.com/200612/25/200612252114507839900090409041.html
A news paper article on the conference - Mr blogger got it right - kudos :D - Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Yay stereotypes. :(
- OregonTrail, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10MapleStory Destroyed my life and I only had a level 52 Ice Wiz
Don't play these games they are pointless and destroy your life - Rooker156, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7if anyone has heard of Gravity Corp. they are a Korean company that makes MMORPG's, and are currently working on Ragnarok 2, which would be AWESOME on the Wii. I hope they partner with them
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ragnarok_Online_2:_The_Gate_of_the_World - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well, even if you dont like Maple Story... This proves that Nintendo seems to be setting themselves up for a bright future in the Online-games department. Partnering with a major Korean MMO maker sounds like great news! Nintendo's moving in the right direction! *prays for some good online stuff for Wii*
- IcyStorm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As long as it's not something like Maple Story... it's nice to see Nintendo expand though.
- chthonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3is this the same korean NEXON who made Nexus TK? i was addicted to that game 6-8 years ago, but man i hope not.
- jackyyll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The repeated bashing of Maple Story is kind of annoying, it's been said, please come up with something else to comment about :/
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Don't make me drool... I've been waiting for gravity to give us more on RO 2 for years now... but all I've seen are screenshots and small news things about the Korean version... Its still in closed beta to my knowledge, although I know someone that got to try the closed beta (he had a friend in korea or something)...
I remember the days of our Private RO server... nothing like a small private comunity of 50 or so, in a great MMO game together. Especially when I was a GM >=3 hehe...
Darn I wish RO2 would be free2play... but fat chance... plus Gravity isn't the kind of company to make a version on a console, like Wii... =/ at least not from what I've seen of them. - tabledesk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The day an MMORPG is announced for the Wii is also the day a new accessory is announced. MMORPGs won't work very well without a microphone or keyboard.
- patch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ex-sam san poet in the house here! :D Actually thats a horrible thing for me to brag about... but yeah, its the one and only nexon.
- baddog121390, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dont think the wii is powerfull enough to run a graphically INTENSE game like maplestory!
- dirtpoorchris, on 11/29/2008, -0/+1For being absolutely friggen free it is great. If they could some how implement ti Mii system perfectly it would be awsome. Maybe also put 3 to 5 times more of the ez exp quests and it would be great.
- dustinjr1993, on 04/10/2008, -0/+1dont comment here if you hate maplestory
- TomFrost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Ha, I was thinking the same thing! I used to play Kingdom of the Winds yeeaars ago, while it was still free to play. It's amazing how different the game was from MapleStory, if it really is the same company. Unique classes, nonlinear, lots to do, full of features... if a game like that were to turn 3D and put on the Wii, this certainly *would* be an excellent move for Nintendo!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo probably wont force 3rd party online games to use the Friends codes, if they dont want too. And obviously MMO games would never use those, So dont worry.
- metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I feel like such a loser for playing maple story...and its full of hackers...its a light game, which stoners love by the way. For some reason I really want to be good at it.. this is good news for me, i think.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nexon screwed maple story. It was great when they actually cared for it, now they just don't seem to care. I mean, there's hundreds of sites like maplecheats.org where they just sell hacks for the game. You go to any map and you see people hacking.
- jackyyll, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4cough cough BURY! cough
- SourWorm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Well in MMORPGs you have a lot of interaction with other (mostly) humans controlling characters. Sometimes these characters are female in nature (even though the actual human controlling the character is many times not). And in time many of these female characters will be the recipient of lewd remarks and actions, and sometimes they will even respond in kind.
Of course the humans behind these characters have very limited methods of making their characters interact, and one can (possibly) imagine how the oh so highly interactive controller for the Wii could be used to improve such a problem. - Jarasmen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wanted to make a comment about how Maple Story is mucho sucko, but I see that like 20 other people already done that... so I'm a bit lost right now.
- Dunadan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Am I the only one who fails to see why an MMORPG on the Wii would be so great? I mean sure it would be fun assuming the game was well-made, but what about the unique controls makes it so great for this type of game? I just don't see how the Wiimote would be an improvement over keyboard+mouse for an MMORPG... If I'm missing something feel free to enlighten me.
- vashmyvindows, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Gravity" was the first thing I thought of, too. Admittedly, I actually hope this is false. I don't need to waste another 4 years of my life on a sequel to RO, having only quit the first one recently =)
- skamper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Baram on Wii please
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Naw I liked it too, I just stopped playing after my PC went bad... but hell I'd LOVE to play MS or a game similar on my Wii... it would rock!
I heard about a DS version of MS a year or so ago... but I think it would be better as a Wii version. - bubbas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't see how viewing would be a problem in a traditional top-down perspective MMO, particularly with the Wiimote. Ultima Online has a nice, iso-type top-down perspective which could really work well, without having to manipulate a camera. In fact, UO would be a pretty interesting idea for the Wii. You'd have to slow it down tremendously (you could do some Zelda-esque hotkeying, however), but with the pointer, you've essentially got a mouse.
Also, Maple Story would work fine, with the exception of communication. Wave the Wii-mote to attack. Assign spells to d-pad (I confess, I played it for like, 15 minutes a while back...not much more MMOs). Add a microphone somehow, and you'd be in business (maybe a nunchuck attachment w/microphone installed, though that would certainly put me off).
As far camera views, the Wii would handle it just fine. Top-down is a cinch, as you should really NEVER have to change camera views (see: UO). Third-person? See Zelda. I, for one, do not need to be able to revolve the camera around my character when I'm bored. With some actual thought applied to camera control, there's really no need to provide controls for it. - Jasalyn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1 Well think of it this way, if one company makes an mmorpg another company will come to compete :D
- Wolfeheart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not going to be Maple Story, its going to be Mabinogi. www.mabinogi.com , :D trust me.
- Jasalyn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well technically they never said the MMORPG would be on the Wii. But they are def developing something for the DS... However they did delay the Wii console launch and I cant see them doing well in the korean market without an mmorpg. I think that whatever NEXON and Nintendo come up with, this could be what NEXON needs to make it in the overseas markets. Since the Wii and NDS both use lower graphic styles, they really can work well on them rather than the next gen which makes them need so much graphic power... they perfer the cartoony look
- tektalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maplestory is too retarded to deserve to be put on the Wii
- nabeelo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This link is dead -- use this instead:
http://nabeel.typepad.com/brinking/2006/12/nexon_leading_t.html - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2thats more like it! at least thats better than a blog post with no source/proof.
Actually I heard about a possible Maple Story for DS like a year ago... Its even got a Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MapleStory_DS - NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually this IS real... they do have an RO 2... but they just aren't telling us much more about it cept that its in Closed Beta. lol
- Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1judging on nexon's and their american company kru interactive's track record so far for horrible games... i dont find this to be even remotely interesting, while an mmorpg will be nice, not from nexon.
- bergur1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4An MMORPG on the Wii would be sweet. Too bad Maple Story is *****.
- Invader02, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexon
It would be better if they recreate Shattered Galaxy instead of Maple Story... an MMORTS would be so much less of a time waster than an MMORPG. - PickledJesus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1But is still better than Runescape.
- samkxu, on 06/13/2009, -1/+0Wow, I would enjoy maple on a wii haha
I'm also developing a website for maple:
http://henesys.co.cc - jlebrech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0A MMO on Wii, how cool. I recon the Wii has WoW capable graphics. and I play WoW all the time.
- Klisk, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@Chao - I'm short on material today.
I blame Maple Story. - Majestyc, on 03/19/2008, -1/+0www.maple-world.org
- jackyyll, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Damnit could edit fast enough...
An MMORPG on the DS would be awesome.
An MMORPG would be hard on the Wii, unless it was like Maple Story, since it's 2D and not speed intensive, since with the wiimote it would be hard to change your camera angles fast enough. Since MMORPGS are typically top-down or third person, it would be hard to control the views. - Jasalyn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Well to get into the Korean Market they would have to make an MMO... it just would not work otherwise; However previous mmo's on consoles have not really been a success. Might be different with the Wii-mote.
- roblun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I guess I'm one of the few that like MapleStory
- klinellyred, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1ooo MMORPG on the Wii...hopefully not maplestory *yuck*
- st3ady, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2i fuggin loved maplestory, got a 60 something assassin, then i realized i was just pressing a button over and over and collecting crap, and stopped.
but I would enjoy the mindless gameplay for my DS, i play it at work when i am in the bathroom, or stuck in traffic. hooray! - chokeaduck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I think saying "MMO for Wii" in the title is reaching a bit... the only thing confirmed is MapleStory for the Wii and that's not even apparent if it will make it Stateside in 2007/2008, if ever. With the friend codes, it would make teamplay/guilds near impossible, thanks to Nintendo's draconian rules of sharing FCs. I wish it the best though, and I'd like to play it on my DSLite if it ever comes to the US.
- Jasalyn, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Ah its a blog post about a conference that was held in korean? (Conference did take place)
