- Lixie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+81Well, that explains the DS Lite shortage.
- krabat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+73That's a ***** of Nintendium.
Hopefully they left Trauma Center: Under the Knife off the list. - RandomHugs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+76"a ton of DS's and DS software"
Understatement of the year. - aschocobo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+65um...they weren't exactly *donated* away. they were sold at an extreme discount. still, it was very nice of--and good PR for--them. i'd take an extreme discount over full price any day :)
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+57DS's really seem a lot better suited for children in a hospital environment than consoles. They don't need a power source/television/cables/basic technical knowledge/anything, You can hand them out to children easily, play them in a hospital bed, wifi with kids in nearby rooms, and an excellent lineup of games for children of all ages.
- meltingrobot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42Apparently, you did not RTFA. This is for kids that are in the hospital jackass.
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+40Comment Abuse for a worthwhile cause, and because I didn't actually see the link on that PA post:

Apparently you didn't read the post, "We’ll be sending these out to the hospitals right away." as stated on the penny-arcade website. These are for kids recovering in hospitals.
Read before you post, it helps. - foolonthehill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+28@Cornswalled
Child's Play is for sick children, in hospitals (and hospices) which can be pretty soul-crushing places. If you don't think it's a good use of money then don't donate, but at last get your facts straight before criticising. - traces8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26cornswalled...
You realize that this stuf is used in children's hospitals for kids that are unable to leave due to terminal or serious illnesses right? They aren't just handing them out to kids at home that ask for a new DS to replace their old GBA or something.
Before you start with the witty banter designed to both amuse and show your massive intellect check a couple of basic facts first. You did manage to show a lot of people that you are an assbag though, Good Job! - slackerbox, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28Inaccurate; they bought the stuff from Nintendo with the child's play money.

- Corqueatsz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20No kidding, wow...
- LogicBomB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Purchased at a huge discount isn't as good as donated but quite frankly, every little bit helps!
- ElbridgeGerry, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Wow. Excellent work. Stuff like this makes the fanboyism here seem insignificant, no?
- metalgod79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I'll digg any article to help promote this worthy cause.
- tanameyer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15@kibibytebrain
It is well known that Nintendo's stuff is very durable. In fact I'm willing to say that the DS Lite couldn't be broken in a hospital setting unless you purposely tried to break it. I'd be more worried about a bunch of them going missing. - macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14let me swim in it please!
- bobothn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13no child's play as in the charitable organization that gives gaming systems to children's hospitals to help the children relax and try to cheer them up. http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ are farly worth while cause. it isn't curring cancer but it will make some children's lives a little less suck

@wiihuck: and for the record, i'm not a guy - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I don't care if it were at a huge discount or a donation, it were generous from Nintendo, and the reason I'm definitely sponsoring Nintendo in the future, once i get around saving up for a console, even at my rate they i should be able to do so before a Wii ever gets steady at the shelves anyways..
- JetwingX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13joab, keep those thoughts to your self
- sgtawol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11@ kibibytebrain
Childs play is to help kids in hospitals who are undergoing some really painful treatments, so giving the kids an actual Wii or something might not be as helpful. With the DS, they can take it with them and play during the treatments. Studies have shown that it helps lessen the pain via distraction. - ImportSport, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16This Digg is incorrect as stated above. Granted Nintendo does deserve some respect in helping the Penny Arcade guys accomplish something so grand.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10It would be really bad to be an experienced surgeon corrected by an 8 year old kid for mispronouncing the name of a procedure during a consultation. Trauma center has a stunning amount of medical jargon for a video game.
- joelmole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Cornswalled: I imagined your entire post spoken by Ricky Gervais of the Office. Just sounds exactly like something his character (David Brent) would say.
- deeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@aschocobo
Just curious, how do you know that? Am I blind or just ignorant? - violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Unless you're a Penny Arcade fanboy. =D
- violentvinyl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7You can also make your own donations if you haven't already, they accept PayPal which makes it nice and easy:
http://www.childsplaycharity.org/ - ScoobyG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I heart Nintendo.
- galupo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Between the great customer service, affordable and fun products, and the random acts of goodness.
Nintendo I salute you.
I think all companies need to follow your model.
I don't know what your putting in the water over there but I like. - krellor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Typically I'm all for burying inaccurate articles, but in cases of charity, I'd at least personally feel like an asshat for burying it. That and it doesn't link to blog spam, but PA actual article.
- jholland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5And doesn't 'cause' usually refer to a charitable cause? Blocked for being ignorant.
- m4szyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@cornswalled
You argue that video games make kids dumb yet you cant even read: they sent them to hospitals not schools, way to go genius. By the way the DS does have games with educational value (ever hear of brain age?), so next time you go on an anti-video game crusade on digg read the article first and maybe have some clue as to what you're talking about - pathy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'd say that a lot of games help children develop, as long as they aren't their only source of information/entertainment.
- cweinrich, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Schweet job Nintendo ... time to step up to bat Sony ( w/PSP's and some games ), you could use the good PR. ;)
- HanSolo69, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3if i was a sick child, the last thing i would want is a PSP.
- number8888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It would have been nicer if Nintendo actually did donate them. I wonder how big the discount actually is ...
- chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3very cool of Nintendo and PA.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is awesome.
- techwrekfix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's very cool of Nintendo to do that. I'm not sure if anyone would know about it if the guys @ Penny Arcade hadn't said anything. Penny Arcade does a great job with Child's Play. If only more people and companies were like them.
- wiihuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"these DSes were purchased at a deep discount with the proceeds from Child's Play donators" from kotaku. i still don't get it. did the charity have to pay anything for them?
- Alconis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nintendo still technically donated. They covered what the discount didn't.
- NYG1988, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Has Nintendo ever enjoyed such a long period of positive press? I mean, jeez... just seems like they are doing all the right things nowadays. Guess Satoru Iwata really knows what he is doing.
- Itazura, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Nintendo still technically donated. They covered what the discount didn't."
Don't just make up lies, read the article, Nintendo just discounted the items. Child Play BOUGHT them. - vh1`, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1after reading some of cornswalled's comments, I think it's come time to block someone due to their pure ignorance
I saw this post at work, but the firewall they use there is incredibly rudimentary. the images and stylesheets of penny-arcade.com are blocked, but not the text. after seeing the images; wow, that's a lot of ... wow - Juntistik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Brain Age, Big Brain Academy (both versions), Sudoku for DS. All educational games or improve logic for the brain. Brain Age is a pretty good seller too. I'm sure Childs Play didn't leave those games out either.
What a jackass. - GasPoweredGnome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@juntistik
Have you heard of Folding@Home for the PS3?
This is an awesome idea, details of who bought what aside. - kamaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Look at that pile of sexy black DS Lites! /drool
Go Child's Play and Nintendo! :) - Kempachi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it weird if I feel more tempted by this than the $205 million picture posted last week?
