- Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -5/+59Yeah, fun secondary fact.
Wiis per day: 50000
360s per day: 19800
PS3s per day: 19000
PS3's better pick it up, at this rate they'll literally never catch up to 360. - Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58It's more amazing to me that the Wii already has half of the 360's sales numbers when it's only been out for about three months to the 360's 15. Lets see here... if rates hold steady (which is unlikely) the Wii will surpass 360 in totals sales in... 146 days at 11.75 million consoles each!
July 8th 2007. Mark your calenders folks! - ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -7/+42Because buying a Wii fights global warming and intolerance. :)
- maglob, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27@arbguy1: Because the wii is making the news all the time, because its doing so much better than expected
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28yea, i think so. remember the 360 had crap sales in the start.
- alex189a, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25Its the under 3 months part that makes it relevant. I assume "under" means a few days short of, btw.
- Ahnteis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25Yes. At least we've stopped with the updates on the number of songs sold on itunes.
- Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Yeah, and I know someones gonna call me a wiifanboy for suggesting that from these rough numbers that the PS3 is doomed to be in 360's shadow, but if rates are going to go anywhere it's usually down. The wii rate will fall as will the PS3, but the 360 has already had the launch rush mostly neutralized, so it won't fall nearly as fast. Meaning that likely it will still be selling faster than the PS3
Barring Europe of course, that launch will be interesting. - Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20It depends on faith mostly. Europe has seen Japan's and USA's launch and fallout. It probably won't be a positive influenced on their buying habits considering the prices over there are even somewhat higher.
- Doorfingers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I helped out this stat.
I am happy to say that I own one of the Wii's! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+28Fastest selling ever? Is this correct?
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20I don't know about you, but there are more good Wii games slated to come out than I can afford to buy so I'm very happy.
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20@all of you.
Jesus Christ, I kind of figured people on digg were smart enough to get a joke but apparently I was wrong.
I was making fun of people who hate on Nintendo for no reason, and no I'm not in a frat, and no I don't know anyone named Brock or Chance, and no I do not like Dave Matthews.
...and yes, for the record, I love Nintendo. - MaxPayne3476, on 10/12/2007, -8/+23It's funny how you can still make blatantly fanboy-comments even as the article here shows that the Wii kicks ass :)
- CannedMango, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19I love the Wii, but are we going to get a new Digg headline for every 500k consoles sold?
Breaking!!: OMFG 5 million Wii consoles sold! - aurrea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I'm not sure if they will keep this pace but demand his still high. I waited in front of circuit city and got the 20th of 22 yesterday. When I got there people had been waiting for about 3 hours before the store opened. Obviously not as extreme as release but still very impressive.
ps. I love this thing! I'm 27 years old and felt like a 6 year old at Christmas driving home with it! - Paithan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If only I could find one I would add to that number.
- Mewchu11, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Times Square gets the biggest single share of Wii's in the country, probably the world. So it's not shocking at all to hear.
- sych0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+134.5 million, and I still can't ***** find one.
- Mogwlaii, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Well as you say I can't imagine rates will continue at the pace set so far, but I think that by christmas it would be plausible for the two systems to be equal...
- zander106, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Buried as inaccurate. As others have mentioned, there is no official word from Nintendo that they have hit this supposed mark. Nintendo has not "announced" anything. No press release, nothing on PR Newswire, nothing.
I swear, the efforts of VGCharts and Nexgenwars to make up projected/forecast/estimated sales numbers have resulted in so much misinformation around the web. The idea that their speculative numbers are being trumpeted as fact on an ongoing basis is just ridiculous. NPD data and official company statements are the only true numbers, people. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19Well I assume they mean fastest to 4.5 million which seems plausible...
- VipeNess, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12well if it is the fastest selling unit ever... then nintendo needs to also start selling more games for the system. we have pretty much 3/4 of the games, but would like more for our wii. stop delaying games like you did for the gamecube so you can spread out the system more.
- digguser949, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@docwhowho
I call BS on that. I was at target in Irvine CA with at least 50 lined up to get a Wii most of them left without a Wii. The sell outs are real. Idiot :) Go buy a PS3... - blofeld9999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Are at least you aren't rubbing something else with delight.
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12You've failed because
1- you're in a frat, you paid for your friends
2 - you are going to listen to Dave Matthews - ronaldst, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I wish. I check the stores each week and no one has them in stock.
- hansonc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I'd agree... If I knew what "sicking" meant....
- donjaime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Don't do it. You will regret paying so much for a game console.
I couldn't find one either for a long time, but I got help from a friend and finally got one.
I have learned (from hind sight) a few tips that may come in handy. Shipments come in sometime between 11:00 am and 12:30 for most stores. Best buy is usually the worst place to look since they sell off the quickest (even though they get the biggest shipments). Shipments come in semi randomly, and most employees don't give a rats ass about you and won't tell you when they expect another shipment.
So find a few Targets, Walmarts, Gamestops, Circuit Citys that are nearbye, and over the span of 2 weeks (they are bound to get a shipment) call the stores each day at around 11:30 to see if they got a shipment of wiis in. If they say no, then ask if their daily shipment has arrived. If it hasn't call back in a few minutes until it does. You are bound to catch a shipment before they put the stuff out. - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Nintendo has pulled off the biggest magic trick ever: they keep reporting these amazing sales numbers, but chances are that you and most of the people haven't been able to score one yet.
- ToyYoda, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10*continues to rub my precious Wii with delight*
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8no... don't tell me you were bro raped?!?
- chicbicyclist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Sorry for the comment abuse but this is in no way official. VGcharts.org is NOT an official mouthpiece of Nintendo, and merely makes predictions based on actual data with some educated guesses and hot air thrown into the mix.
There have been no press release from Nintendo regarding Wii sales, and iirc, they said that new numbers should come out this Thursday. - Augie1969, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I just plugged it in today. My Girlfriend is addicted to Tennis and Boxing.
Went out and bought a wireless router just for the damn thing, and have been watching YouTube Wonder Years documentaries and surfing Digg.
It is bloody tremendous.
Now they just need to start coming out with some more games...
- zander106, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes, they do use NPD numbers, but since NPD numbers for January have not been released yet and will not be released until this upcoming Thursday, I have to doubt the veracity of their claims. I don't believe "industry interviews" and unspecified "sell-through data" are very reliable sources, either.
I grant that VGCharts.org makes a far better stab at getting decent numbers than Nexgenwars, but I think that they should be much more up front as to how they reach their estimates, i.e. provide ongoing detail on *which* data from *which* source justifies their current estimates. They should also timestamp their front page estimates to be more clear about when the estimate was updated. - Mogwlaii, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Yeah I think the PS3 Europe launch will be huge - much like PSP but it will probably die down after a few weeks
- jromz03, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9another emo fanboy doing damage control! LOL!
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I need to buy a wii and I cant, my friends cant, I can' t find one.
Well I could if I wanted to pay 2x the retail price for it. Which is something I would never do. - gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7super paper mario just got announced for april 9th, sonic just got awesome scores (i know, WTF?!?) and all of these VC releases during the game "drought"
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@staticneuron
i dont want to talk about it :( - aurorous, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Just 3 years ago with the lackluster showing of the gamecube and imminent launch of the PSP every Nintendo hater in the world predicted that Nintendo would soon follow Sega out of the hardware business.
All reports indicate that Nintendo is delivering systems and they're selling out instantly. Far cry from the 360 last year, we had a couple of million right at the start and almost nothing for the next 6 months. On the other hand Sony has got to be worried, the very instant they fixed their production problems they met their demand. They still aren't producing the same numbers as Nintendo by anyones reckoning they're should not be PS3 systems sitting on the shelf unsold at this point.
Also another thing that no one is noticing is DS's are almost as hard to find as Wii's. Go ahead and try to find some place selling a DS online right now. you *might* be able to find the pink one but the other colors are out of stock everywhere. And the DS has been impossible to find in japan for well over a year selling between 100,000 to 300,000 units every single week. The DS is more popular world wide right now than it was at launch.
both Wii's and DS's selling so well retailers can't keep them on the shelves... a few more months of this and Nintendo might just end up ruling the video game world... AGAIN! - Mrstupid7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@docwhowho
Well I've been checking at least once a week and still haven't found a Wii yet. Neither here in boone or in raleigh, although I've only been to raleigh three times since november. - VeganG, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"P.S. If we have time we might play some Madden also."
On the Wii, I hope! - freetyme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Probably true but at least give us a real announcement
- Luigi239, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Heh, my folks walked into Gamestop 40min. after they opened for Wii Preorders. They got #10.
God Im lucky. - yugiohdan6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@zander106
no he HAD to add that to the end to be allowed to submit it as a new store... otherwise it would have redirected him to another story saying that page was already submitted... - raiderj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I think it will be another couple months before people will have a reasonable time finding any Wii's in the retail channels without having to stand in line. I picked up mine from circuitcity.com on a fluke - they were sold out inside of 10 minutes.
For the lack of games on the Wii (if that is your opinion), within a year you will see some amazing games. Developers have even been blindsided with the demand for the system and will need a bit of time to catch up. This Christmas should prove a good one for Wii owners. - Chode2235, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I thought it was funny. If it makes you feel better.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You're the only retarded cousin around here.
- SolipsismX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Donjaime may be correct about the other stores, but target gets all of their shipments in nightly so you want to go right when the store opens.
