- piratearggghhh, on 07/17/2008, -10/+76MS delivered a FF bitchslap to Sony while copying home and miis. NIntendo was too busy masturbating to their sales graphs to realize their games suck and there are only so many white plastic accessories a person needs. Sony thought it was CES and forgot that the PS3 is a videogame system. End of ***** report.
- Number23, on 07/17/2008, -3/+64I was nearly paralyzed with douche-chills watching the Wii Music demo. Sweet, merciful, Jesus that looked lame.
- Loornadune, on 07/16/2008, -5/+60Needs more booth babes.
- Zippo, on 07/17/2008, -4/+52I miss the good ol' days of when E3 didn't suck...
- Wrangler76, on 07/17/2008, -6/+39People are only going to name the FFXIII announcement :)
- selfdisplaced, on 07/17/2008, -35/+68E3 has sucked ever since they cut it down. Microsoft announced they will be getting FFXIII, no one on the 360 is going to know what to do with that game; as it's not a FPS.
- glacius99, on 07/17/2008, -3/+33My console is better than your console.. So hah! Take that!
- staticneuron, on 07/17/2008, -7/+36I don't Understand why people are saying sony's was so bad since they are the ones that showed more exclusives. MS wasn't that bad either. They showed great functionality that actually has good use. Installing the game to HD, the new party system and the new dashboard are all great plus they showed a few exclusives.
I really don't understand what people were expecting. - FoxOrian, on 07/17/2008, -5/+29The Sony conference wasn't quite as embarassing to watch as the Nintendo conference, but it was admittedly a little bit boring, (but this is just me.) It was cute to see the sales presentation given by Little Big Planet, and that game is unquestionably the one thing I'm truly looking forward to for my PS3 right now, but it looks like there's going to be a bit of a waiting game to see how alot of these titles truly stack up once their released, [same going for the Wii, but we have to hope that we really see some new first party material from Nintendo OTHER than Wii+"Activity" games over the next while.] I'd say that Home was also an interest, but we still have no idea when to expect it.
I'm certainly not ashamed I have these consoles despite some of the lackluster news this E3,
I'm remaining optimistic that things are just slow for the moment.
[Curious: can anything better be expected from TGS?] - jman583, on 07/17/2008, -3/+27"for a new version of Animal Crossing, a sort of virtual zookeeper"
Wait, what? - ggoyal, on 07/17/2008, -27/+50Add Microsoft to that list too. What was overwhelming about their announcements?
- jman583, on 07/17/2008, -11/+32Microsoft attacked their weak point for massive damage.
- RedHawk911, on 07/17/2008, -12/+28Well, At least Sony didn't "brag" about multiplatform games, MS press conference was better than Nintendo but not just as good as Sony's... And Sony's wasn't that good either...
- TheRealDj, on 07/17/2008, -11/+27Woah, very biased title. The biggest thing to come out of Microsoft was just "We also get a game that someone else has" while nice news, that was basicly the only big news from them. Besides Lips, what big announcements did they have with games? Portal Mappack and South Park 64 doesnt' count. Sony atleast showed off half a dozen new titles and focused on the hardcore market instead of the casual market like Microsoft and Nintendo.
- McInternet, on 07/17/2008, -14/+29To be fair, Nintendo and Sony didn't need to "alter their overall strategies".
- tuxidomasx, on 07/17/2008, -16/+31among other things, the FFXIII announcement
- L1onH3artX, on 07/17/2008, -8/+23That's because it was the only thing worth mentioning, the rest was crap.
- smergs, on 07/17/2008, -5/+19I'm looking forward to the Portal game. I also think Fable 2 looks good and I'm sure I'll pick up Gears 2.
Also, I don't really care about the avatar part, but I think the dashboard overhaul actually looks pretty good over all. Also I like the Netflix addition. I know if you have a Vista pc you can already get a plug in to do that but I think it'll be a little better not having to go through a pc first. I'm not a Final Fantasy Fan but at least I don't have to listen to friends who are PS fanboys talk about how they have this great series that I don't have the option to play. I also love the idea of being able to install games to the hard drive. Faster load times and quieter game play. I think MS announced a lot of good things actually.
Nintendo's conference really did suck. Sony just didn't have any big surprises so it seemed underwhelming. (Although they do have a few games I'd like to play.) And in the end Microsoft's might have not been "overwhelming" but it was better than the other two. - gllopc, on 07/17/2008, -3/+16E3s downsizing is having a sizable negative effect. "Regular news" would broadcast the latest video games to non-gamers, boosting the industry as a whole. Now, new games may never make it to the eyes and ears of the average consumer, and so having a greatly negative effect on the future of the industry.
- da_bradler, on 07/17/2008, -1/+14Is it just me or does Animal Crossing look EXACTLY THE SAME! it's like the same ***** town and everything, just now you can go on trips to the city. Give me a ***** break.
And why the hell was a microphone that worked for an entire group of people a big selling feature? who the hell gets a bunch of people together then goes online to play with other groups of people - inactive, on 07/17/2008, -1/+13"NIntendo was too busy masturbating to their sales graphs to realize their games suck and there are only so many white plastic accessories a person needs." I laughed and cryed.
- staticneuron, on 07/17/2008, -2/+13FFXIII is cross platform and the 360 version will be worked on after the game is released on the PS3 (and PC?) in japan. They claim to be able to do a port and localize faster than previous iterations, and I am eager to see that. Normally the localization makes the games hit western shores about 6 months later.
And the darker themed FFXIII versus remains exclusive to the PS3. I have been looking foward to this game since we have not had any firm info about the Kingdom Hearts for the PS3.
In case you aren't aware of versus (why people are not talking about versus boggles me) Here is a video of both XIII and XIII Versus .
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/36222.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/29006.html versus - kravex, on 07/17/2008, -15/+26So Microsoft did well by announcing Singstar, Eye toy and Mii's?
- Number23, on 07/17/2008, -2/+12Release date for Home
Release date for Wipeout HD
Something, anything regarding the Team ICO project - skinrock, on 07/17/2008, -0/+10So which part of that explains how Microsoft is altering their strategy? Oh...there isn't anything about that.
- Gamoc, on 07/17/2008, -4/+14...right. Because nobody would ever want to play a 256 player shooter, right?
- Duositex, on 07/17/2008, -6/+16Nintendo and Sony and Microsoft Underwhelm at E3
There.. fixed it for you. - staticneuron, on 07/17/2008, -6/+16Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, and Final Fantasy XIII are also on the PS3. Pay attention to the conferences and Sony showed more exclusive titles and MS showed impressive increased functionality and 3 or 4 exclusives.
- estvir, on 07/17/2008, -7/+16Both Nintendo and Sony could do to alter their OVERALL strategies, Nintendo could focus less on incredibly casual games and Sony could, well, work on EVERYTHING but also try and be more casual friendly like Microsoft is.
MS seems to be the best of both worlds with the X360. - da_bradler, on 07/17/2008, -2/+11Microsoft wasn't bad you just need to skip over the middle 20-30 minutes of pure corporate rubbish. I think they had the biggest plans for the rest of the year and I am looking forward to the games and new dashboard.
Sony one I thought had the best presenter, seemed like a real person as opposed to microsoft which always sounds like 150% marketing speak. But beyond that they didn't really announce or show anything that hasn't been shown 6 months ago.
Nintendo was entertaining as always, Regie was funny as always, he always looks so angry. he has the best marketing speak "some people think Nintendo lacks in online, To those people I say your wrong our online is the best" *death stare* no evidence needed Regie just don't hurt us. - FuZi0nDET, on 07/17/2008, -2/+11If any one read the article I would point out these two things as being much more impressive than anything Microsoft showed off:
(Sony) "The company did, however, exhibit a high level of artistic and technical ambition in playing a trailer from a new game in the works called MAG, for Massive Action Game. MAG is meant to allow up to 256 players to simultaneously occupy one continuous modern-combat battlefield. Currently, most console games do not allow more than 40 or 60 players to compete at once. Sony did not say when it hoped to release MAG."
(Sony) “For its part, Sony kicked off its presentation with a stunning demonstration of Resistance 2, the high-octane first-person shooter under development by Insomniac Games. Ted Price, the studio’s president and chief executive, impressed the crowd with his demonstration of combat against a 300-foot tall leviathan rampaging through an urban landscape.”
How is that not impressive? Is stunning an adjective you'd use to describe something boring? I love my XBOX 360, I just fail to see how Sony's presentation wasn't impressive. People are tripping over themselves for the Netflix announcement for Microsoft, Sony matched it. Lips has impressed a lot of people, Sony's camera came out a long time ago. I've never liked the dashboard for the 360, I'm glad to see its changing. This has to be the biggest news yet from E3. - crussell96, on 07/17/2008, -9/+18what about netflix, new dashboard, new party system, game installs.
- KrustyTClown, on 07/17/2008, -7/+16I disagree, Resistance one was rated 90+. Resistance two is being developed by a highly experienced PS3 dev and is going to be bigger and better than the first. As for Killzone2, this game looks simply amazing. I bet if killzone2 was a 360 game, then 360 fans would be all over it. Your also forgetting SOCOM, Sony's #1 online series is returning this fall. If you don't think that Killzone 2 or Resistance two look good, then you must think COD4 trailers sucked also.
- Radan, on 07/17/2008, -8/+16Seriously, the Xbox users are way the wrong crowd to try to sell FF-games to. Personally, I couldn't care less about the FF series, simply because I don't like the genre, never had, never will.
Give me Halo4, COD6, Dead Rising 2, Rainbow Six 5, Mass Effect 2 and Deus Ex 3, then we'll talk. And scratch the Avatars. They are stupid. - logicalnoise, on 07/17/2008, -5/+13those multi platform games regularly ell more on 360 here in NA()biggest game market in the world)which sort of deflates ps3's overall gasbaggery.
- inactive, on 07/17/2008, -2/+9Nintendo Epic Fail! Where is my Starfox,Where is my proper Boxing Title,WHERE IS MY INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY!!!!
NINTENDO YOU SARCRIFICED POWER FOR "INNOVATIVE GAMEPLAY" AND WE THE FANS HAVE RECEIVED NEITHER
/wheezing rant - inactive, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8I hate G4 as much as the rest of you. At least Morgan Webb and Adam Sessler are still there I guess.
They were the only one that provided me with e3 coverage live this year and they actually did a decent job. - DMXell, on 07/17/2008, -1/+8@cogsprocket: FFXIII won't be released for the Xbox 360 in Japan because, believe it or not, the 360 has very little users in Japan. the PS3 has far more users. So Square will release it in Japan first, then spend time translating it and bringing it over to the 360 for a simultaneous launch in Europe and North America.
- staticneuron, on 07/17/2008, -0/+6cogsprocket, your are probabbly dugg down because square said it was a mistranslation.
http://playstationlifestyle.net/2008/06/19/final-f ...
And here is the updated Joystiq article
http://www.joystiq.com/2008/06/19/square-enix-fina ...
It turns out that the versus team helps out with XIII deelopment but they have not stop or ceased prodction on their own title. - Coffeedemon, on 07/17/2008, -11/+17And Fallout 3, Fable 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, Gear of War 2 and Portal: Still Alive. But don't let the blinders get in the way. Personally I thought Sony did ok. Nintendo did practically nothing. Their showcase was a game where all you *seem to* have to do is mimic holding an instrument in order to play it? I can't wait till the "society for advancement of real world instruments" (AKA those clowns that always come into the Guitar hero and Rock Band threads) get a hold of it... at least the GH and RB games require timing.
- KrustyTClown, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7It's all an opinion. It just seems that more people seem to have the same opinion I have about the game. It's a very good game. Not great, but very good.
- HappyScrappy, on 07/17/2008, -1/+6They all underwhelmed. MS got up there and dated two games we've been seeing forever, ignored ones we've were shown a long time ago (Alan Wake) and spent the rest of the time talking about cross-platform games.
- Gamoc, on 07/17/2008, -8/+13Buried for an inaccurate title. Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony underwhelmed at E3. Note just how disappointing they were in order, most disappointing first; Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony.
- Temo1, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5Hopefully you won't be IN the water cooler talking about it.
- m4szyman, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7They pretty much had a game in every genre: Resistance 2 for FPS fans, God of War 3 for action/adventure fans, Little Big Planet for platformer fans and Motorstorm 2 for racing fans. Plus who wouldn't wanna play MAG (assuming they don't ***** it up).
All Microsoft had was Gears of War 2, lets not count multiplatform games since Sony gets them too. Don't get me wrong I was hoping for more from Sony too but they showed me more than Microsoft did. Microsofts big announcement was FF13, great, now I can decide whether to buy it for my PS3 or my Xbox360, who cares? - mywhitenoise, on 07/17/2008, -5/+10Halo ***** sucks.
- davidmcraney, on 07/17/2008, -0/+5This submission reeks of stealth marketing.
- sonicbliss, on 07/17/2008, -2/+7what the hell are you talking about??
- NipGrip, on 07/17/2008, -5/+10Yes and most of the XBOTS mentioning FFXIII as a "win" only mention that as a strike against Sony and have no intentions of ever playing the game. It's so stupid.
- ScionX, on 07/17/2008, -3/+8I will.
