- Prem0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I would like to see some online multiplayer content on the Wii but it is not on my priority list of things I want on my Wii. If I want to play FPS multiplayer I have a computer and an internet connection, I purchased my Wii so that I could play games in an interesting way with friends in person.
- FortyTwo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16This article is dated 10/17!
Not to mention the fact online multiplayer will becoming shortly with the relesase of the new pokemon game, and Smash Bros has been (strongly) rumored to have online multiplayer.
Its coming kids. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12granted but then there is the much hyped wii24connect, for most people hoping to get some use out if it they have seen 2 system updates, sent emails and bought a rom. For people with pc's its no problem (me included) but Id still like to see the wii be something more than a slimed down console with an intresting controller.
- achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9We all know wii sports is there just to get our feet wet. I hope that when real sports games start coming out they wii have online multiplayer, like Virtua Tennis maybe?
- PhantomBantam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i believe miyamoto said there would be no high scores for brawl, but I could be wrong. I kind of hope there aren't scoreboard for brawl so there won't be pressure to win every time you play. Newbie slaughtering is no fun. If they had a star system, like in MKDS, that would be cool, though.
- 10scott10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6they plan on relaeasing online gaming 1st or 2nd quarter next year.
i wish they had it now. - Pumaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm not entirely sure why the original comment is being dugg down. It's true, with the Wii Nintendo is trying to bring people together in their living rooms. Where in any of their advertisements do they show network gaming? I do see an advantage at having people together playing (though controllers do get expensive) and smack talking each other face to face, it's real fun and one of the best parts of my Wii experience so far.
However, I do admit to being a bit surprised at the total lack of support. When I can't have my friends over I would still like to be able to play multiplayer games. The lack of an option completely seems a bit hard to figure out, especially at launch. - asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I went the Wii60 route, so I don't miss the Wii's lack of online multiplayer, but I do dislike the awkward DS-style friend system and lament the lack of some kind of score-sharing. Xbox Live's gamerscores and achievements have changed the way we play, and it sucks that Sony and Nintendo seem to be ignoring this.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And I only complain because like Nintendo. If I didn't care about the Wii or Nintendo I would keep playing Xbox Live and not really give a damn. Some people are being too fanboy about the situation, if they're doing something wrong then the Nintendo fans should be the first to raise questions not the ones digging people down because they dare question the mighty Wii.
- kingfoot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this generation is about buying the one that suites you. get the wii to enjoy with friends and family, and have fun, or get a ps3/360 and do more hardcore gaming while supporting the format you want.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@CornStarch
"Until the Wii gets online it's just a Zelda brick," pretty much yes. Sure I can get mates around or go around theirs but its not always going to be play the wii. I want some online exp - thesparrowband, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4yeah. but i really don't play video games for the single player. i play them so i can interact with other people who are intelligent and do unexpected things. online multiplayer would be a big driving force behind me purchasing a wii.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Im sorry but if people want to digg down informative comments have the decency to counter my explanation with an argument.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you saw my other comment, its mainly because its a valid point and sums up my issue nicely. This is more a talkback for Wii owners.
- mark_in_bc, on 10/12/2007, -17/+18I don't see on-line play as being a big driving force behind the success of the Wii as they aren't really competing with the next-gens but are in a genre of their own. I'm sure many on-line titles will be released but the Wii is more of a sit down with your family and friends and have a good time sort of thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6Id like to at least see high score sharing on wii sports which would be very easy for nintendo todo.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope not.
- dralezero, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3So all these patches for games bought in store would be stored on SD cards or the internal memory and be loaded each time a game is played? Can't actually burn those patches onto the disc. How would this work?
- reddevil3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I recently tried online play through ZSNES (The SNES emulator...I'm sure you all know), and I was surprised by how well it worked. Then I tried the GenS emulator and used Kaillera to play Streets Of Rage 2 online...surprisingly fun.
I SERIOUSLY hope Nintendo brings online play to VC games. I have little to no incentive to buy VC games without online play, but I'm sure Nintendo can implement online play...they just don't want to work at it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1agreed, online multiplayer for roms is old news, if nintendo ignores it dont expect to see VC games sell well.
- Jdban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think almost everyone would like the online to be added. They really need to get working on that in order to gain an upper hand.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Because when I meet up with my friends we do stuff, we don't sit in my room and play video games. I chill with them and play now and then, but the majority of the time no one has free time to come all the way to my place and play with the screen split 4 different ways.
My TV isn't big enough for me not to mind playing a game from 1/4th a screen. - soulscreme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How about they fix the crappy friend code crap first?
- blanktarget, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Terrible article, it sounds like the guy is just speculating and hasn't even really played one. Honestly, I am disappointed there isn't more online support and I hope they fix this soon. Really though, the wii is sort of a party console, I have a lot of friends come over and have a blast. Honestly I thought this would be a more in depth article not just someone's musings.
- Moria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The online multiplayer is with Mario Strikers, BWii, Smash Bros Brawl amongst others which are coming next year.
- richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Are they just TRYING to make another Dreamcast?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@PhantomBantam,
Perhaps just the option to submit the scores you want to. Trust me if I bowl a perfect game I want my name up somewhere for it :P. - Hexxed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Buried. Online gaming for the Wii is coming, and is already available in Japan. Ideally, yes, there would be more online multiplayer capabilities, but realize the Wii has only been out 3 weeks. You also have to remember Nintendo is not trying to be an Xbox or a Playstation, they are going their own route and seem to be doing very well.
Expect the weather channel and possibly even the Opera-browser live before Christmas. - dafelst, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@CornStarch
How about you go out and make some friends to play with instead of sitting on your ass and whinging about lack of online multiplayer? - derek20cali, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I don't care about multiplayer at all.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2SD card or download. and no they will never let u burn and patch the game, were stuck waiting for mod chips for that option.
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+6Until the Wii gets online it's just a Zelda brick. I don't live with my brothers anymore, so what good is Super Smash Brothers or mario cart to me now? I need online, it's a requirement.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Yer I feel 2nd quarter for online play is an insult.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Dated article but a valid point I felt. Yes pokemon is coming but its a kids game and Im not the biggest pikachu fan :P. SSB will be out 2nd quarter which is a long strech imho.
It is great to play with other people irl for sure and rest assured I have been doing just that, but its also nice to be able to quickly log into a game and play against real people without having to go somewhere or convice them to play. The other blindingly obvious benfit of net enabled games is high scores and what not.
Yes they are comming, but how long is to long. Ive seen many killer hardware systems fail before they trully shone due to the market been hyped up and then disapointed upon 1st impressions. To many people I know that are non gamers have been led to believe by inaccurate reports that buying nintendo wii = interactive exp (yerp thats there), play old games (its limited atm, australia is worse due to no tubrografx games) and play against friends and random people online (appalingly lacking).
I hope it works out for the best but I do fear that we will be resold upgraded versions of the same games with improved handling etc + multiplayer. The system is setup for is 24connect so it should use it. - sunimoto, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1I'll ask another question: Where's Wii?
Where did you buy it? Did you all stand in lines on the release day? - cyclonesworld, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Why is it all the Wii articles that make the front page are months old? When this article was wrote the Wii wasn't even out yet.
- FrankieB078, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3@Prem0
I was going to say something nasty about the Wii not having multiplayer, but I completely respect your statement and feel the exact same way. The Wii seems innovating for the living room with family and friends (I haven't played one yet). I 100% agree that if I want multiplayer, I'll go get a 360/PS3/upgrades for my PC so that I can have that.
