- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Between trying to get my hands on one in the first place, deciding which games to buy and where to get them, trying to find peripherals (still searching for an s-video cable), and putting items on wishlists for Xmas, it seems like I must account for 1/2 the searches all by myself. If there are many people like me, I'm not surprised it's being searched for a lot.
- rad4Christ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17 I highly doubt there is such a word as "BURRIED", so I'm burying your comment as inaccurate!

google trends version - DreKor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Porn isn't "Competition" for the Wii. In fact, it could be considered a supporting good since there will be xvid codecs in the upcoming Opera browser.
Now who's a kiddie console, Sony? - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12@kbrower:
You needed to group "playstation 3" and "ps3" into one category, as opposed to making them separate search terms.
Here's a better Google Trends link:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2C+%28playstation%7Cps3%29%2C+%28xbox+360%7Cxbox%29&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006 - tchawla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Where is the PS3 on that graph? It'd be interesting to see.
EDIT: Ah, n/m, it is for the UK, where the PS3 is still awaited. - youdlike2know, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4 did you even read the story?

Check it out! XD (technically thats just how many results there are, but hey Wii still wins there anyway.) - TrueJournals, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Someone has to say it: What about the PS3?
I'm a Wii person myself though... just a bit curious where the PS3 stands. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@br0ck:
Yea, I know it has "playstation" in it, but to me it seemed that the search term ("playstation 3"|ps3) was too narrow and excluded too many people that simply search "playstation" for the PS3. Also, I figured that since the PS2 technically IS still competition (people are still buying those ancient things in abundance, after all) that it wouldn't be so bad to include some of that in there. Though if you add, "ps2," it puts Sony way up, again.
Hmmm.... I'm more confident about my international version I posted up a bit. - Jelloman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Google zeitgeist (U.S.) for the week ending 12/9 has "ps3" 3rd and "wii" 5th in the "fun and games" category. Whatever that means. I don't really take much meaning from zeitgeist any more, now that it's so heavily edited, and includes less data. I much preferred it when they showed more raw data, including the top overall searches. These little "categories" they have now are way too vague.
Google trends seems to lag 3 weeks behind, unfortunately. - SafetyHelmet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your writing not only sucks, but your facts are incorrect as well. The Wii *isn't* involved in the next-gen console war. It's something else. And it's not the same power as the GameCube, except on Sony fanboy websites. It's actually more like twice the power, and that's before taking into consideration newer shader tech, and things that can't be quantified by just comparing raw data processing power. I'm a hardcore gamer, and I didn't buy a PS2, and I won't buy a PS3. Sure, there are some good games, but the 360 is by far the best deal out there. Plus, I could go buy an SLI video card setup for less than a PS3, and enjoy basically the same gaming features, plus the functionality of a PC.
Oh, and Twilight Princess was designed for the gamecube, which is why it looks like a gamecube game. - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2And here's an international version that compares the popularities of gaming products from all three countries:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=%28wii%7C%E3%82%A6%E3%82%A3%E3%83%BC%7CNintendo%7C%E4%BB%BB%E5%A4%A9%E5%A0%82%7C%E3%83%8B%E3%83%B3%E3%83%86%E3%83%B3%E3%83%89%E3%83%BC%7CDS%29%2C+%28playstation%7Cps3%7C%E3%83%97%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%E3%83%BC%E3%82%B7%E3%83%A7%E3%83%B3%7C%E3%83%97%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9%E3%83%86%7Cps2%29%2C+%28xbox+360%7Cxbox%7C%E3%82%A8%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%E3%83%9C%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%82%B9%29&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006
When the "PS2" is factored in, it appears that Nintendo only has a tiny lead with the Wii and DS, but if you take the "PS2" out, the Wii and DS crush the other two. - balibones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"overtook searches for all other gaming consoles" ... what does that have to do with Porn? I never said anythign about ALL searches in the description. Just searches for gaming consoles and toys. Can't those guys read? Is porn a toy? Well... maybe for some.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Good point, but that would hold true for the other consoles being compared, too.
Also, I'm not aware of a way to brick your Wii, short of doing something monumentally stupid, like smashing it with a hammer. - hookET, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RTFA. It's about Wii's standing in search terms, regardless of processor power or human texture graphics. In search term case now, Wii comes out on top.
I seriously doubt you bought the Wii strictly to "play all the Zeldas" when you could have just gotten the Gamecube version (if you even own the Gamecube). You rave on about Sony yet you shell out $300+ just to play all the Zeldas? Not to mention that you only talk about how the games "look" rather than if you had really owned the Wii and how they actually play. Right.
Oh yea. RTFA next time. - fourinjuly4ij, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@o0joshua0o
Best Buy has S-Video cables and Component cables as well. Some third party brand. The store near me had a bunch the other day. - Atom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No it doesnt. Look at the year of 2006. Wii has a very substantial lead.
- LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually, when they did the smash my wii thing, it took several hammer strikes to destroy it...
- humbled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oops, I just read the Google Trends documentation a little more. I think it's more accurate when expressed as such:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2Cps3%7C%28playstation+3%29%2Cxbox+360%2Cipod&ctab=0&geo=US&date=2006-11 - Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's all in there
- humbled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here it is with "ps3" and "playstation 3" combined into one:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2C%28ps3%7Cplaystation+3%29%2C+xbox+360%2C+ipod&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006-11
And here's that same search restricted to the United States:
http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2C%28ps3%7Cplaystation+3%29%2C+xbox+360%2C+ipod&ctab=0&geo=US&date=2006-11 - Atom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"You needed to group "playstation 3" and "ps3" into one category, as opposed to making them separate search terms."
Fair enough. But if thats the case you have to group Nintendo with Wii since its a Nintendo wii right? Same logic and the landslide still applies.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=%28wii%7Cnintendo%29%2C+%28playstation%7Cps3%29%2C+%28xbox+360%7Cxbox%29&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gee...and her I didn't even know there WAS a competition for onlinbe searches between consoles.
And I can't imagine why the Nintendo would have more searches than the 360.
My guess is John MAyer gets more searches than Elvis Presley and the Beatles commbined. - t1t0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Not saying that this article isn't accurate, but wouldn't searching for "broken Wii", "bricked Wii" or whatever show up as a Wii search? ;)
So yes, there are more searches, but it doesn't have to be positive...
Just being the devil's advocate... - Hickeroar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.googlefight.com/index.php?lang=en_GB&word1=XBOX+360&word2=Nintendo+Wii

http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2C+%28ps3%7Csucks%29&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006 - bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think people just like shiny white things with short words ....
- undersky1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Does anyone know if you set your wii location (country) to Japan, will your menu turn into Japanese and be able to access news and weather channels like Japanese do? Can someone try this and tell me? Thanks.
- elqboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm a good fan of the zelda, i can say i have play all zelda's video games. But i'm not willing to buy the wii to play the NEW!! Zelda(but i ended buying it just to say i have play all ZElda's games).I think the wii is a pretty weak console to be involved in this next gen console war, this war is about power, and the wii doesnt have it.The wii have almost the same power of the GameCube. We will see wiis been sell(from nintendo's fans) faster than what we saw then coming, trust me about this one.I own one( a wii) and i will sell it as soon as i can walk into a store and pick up a PS3.Wii is not for harcore gamers, all we have seen is weak games(and some of then can be fun for a while), unreal games like zelda's and all others, i dont think have seen real human texture in the wii, well CoD3 looks ok(not really)
- br0ck, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@masamunecyrus your search includes just the word 'playstation' which is going to include a lot of non ps3 searching.
- djdragon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0And ya'll said Wii was a stupid name. *lol*
- juliocgrajales, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1its funny how people buried *****'s comment even though he is absolutely correct but I guess people cannot open their minds to level of conversation above just the wii, even though this was not the place for starting a conversation about porn, nonetheless the wii was searched more in canada than the usa or japan very interesting even though its only google trends i wonder if nintendo or other companies look at these figures to estimate console quantities...
- kaijunexus, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0The PS3 is on that graph. 0%, through and through.
- sideshowRAHEEM, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2my google trends results show Wii with a small lead.
http://www.google.com/trends?q=Wii%2C+playstation+3%2C+Xbox+360 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1There sure are a lot of Nintendorks. I fear for our nation.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1http://www.google.com/trends?q=wii%2C+ps3%2C+playstation+3%2C+xbox+360%2C+porn&ctab=0&geo=all&date=2006-11
Brick was right. - shitbrick69, on 10/12/2007, -57/+2I highly doubt the Wii is searched more than porn. Inaccurate. BURRIED!!!!!!!
