- keozen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+244,999,998 of those have beat me at "Tetris DS"
- Mrstupid7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+22I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not but an 1/8th of the total number of DS users is a very large fraction of people playing over the internet.
- thefirelane, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18I think this will continue to grow. Mario Striker Football is one of the best Wii games I've played. Although soccer isn't popular in the US, this game is not really what you'd describe as soccer. It is more like a version of smashbrothers with goals.
It is a lot of fun, and I think it will be very popular in the US too. - Splitt3rxx, on 10/11/2007, -6/+20wow... 1/8th of DS owners. I hope wii has a better wifi system, no friend codes.
- BryanCarr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8And you probably beat me.
- zinh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Still need a WII...
Am I the only one willing to buy one of these and can't find one in stock anywhere? - JordanM85, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Just because I use it, doesn't mean I like it.
- ecorona, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8@whiteguysamurai
The only rules we diggers follow are the rules laid out by the invisible hand of the digging and burying power that has been granted to us. :-P
(and the occasional admin removing porn submissions) - BryanCarr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I have to wonder what percentage of that is from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, considering the game sold about eight gazillion copies.
- Ironman11, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5He's talking about the DS, which is WEP only.
- npsken, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7@elovey (#6951688)
who doesn't? - benitojuarez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Sorry to be a dick, I'm a dad myself but I call *****. You seriously sound like one of those fear mongering newscasters that ran reports about pedophiles using pictochat as the hot new tool to lure children into their dark scary webs. If a pedo wants to get to your child, I'm sure there are easier ways than the almighty friend code.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4good on ya Nintendo! have a beer to celebrate!
- grumbel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The first and last time I tried Nintendos WiFi was with MarioKart some month back. Do I count as user? Since I seriously don't feel like one.
- patrickyan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They fail to mention Pokemon, which is most likely more than half of all the wifi users...
- orionfusion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5It's quite unfortunate that the DS is WEP only, kind of a pain when I had to drop my wifi encryption down to allow my DS to connect. But remember that this Friend Code system was created with a lot in mind. Who has historically been the primary market for Nintendo: the younger gamer generation, not the 20-something year old playing Halo 2 with his friends at a LAN party. So with kids being such easy targets for sick f*cks on the Internet, this Friend Code system is quite useful to me as a dad since I can personally approve each and every friend code she gets. Yes, I see everyone's point in this article comment thread, but I would rather have the encumbered Friend Code system then have my 9 year old girl play Bratz picto-chat-style game with a 40 year old pedophile.
- flair1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3i just had a Wii shipped to me at retail from Sears.com at $249. I hate those $500 bundles with games I will never play. I just checked this site until I saw it in stock at retail price.
http://www.xpbargains.com/wii_locator.php - elovey, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5i agree.
- etempest, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Our Walmart gets a batch randomly, then are gone by the end of the day.
I happened to get lucky one day. - Quix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2"This is a Nintendo post, and have screened all nintendo content out"
There's another cool screening tool available. It's called *your eyeballs*. If you see a Nintendo story title that hurts your feelings, move on. No need to read. No need to comment.
I only wish Digg let me screen out the loads of worthless comments complaining about mis-posted or duplicate stories... - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I HATE FRIEND CODES! WORST IDEA EVER!
- Reinhart, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Be sure to check out www.wiipals.net if youre frustrated with friend codes and trying to play people worthy of playing.
- bpapa, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm curious as to how these numbers compare to XBL stuff. I remember a few months after Nintendo Wi-Fi launched, they revealed some stats on how Mario Kart and Animal Crossing were doing and certain stats were INSANE when compared to Halo (something like 40% of all early MK owners taking it online, I think).
- MoWater, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2WEP only? No, I use WPA with Wii. Haven't had any problems.
- DMDekoth, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Friend codes! Derka derk derk derk derk derka derk derk!
I would pay, in Wii points, to remove the whole friend code system from my Wii. I can't stand how there is not and will not be any anonymous online play. You know, where you click ONLINE PLAY and be thrown into a game with random strangers and have fun.
@orionfusion Thou shalt not think any male over the age of 30 that plays with a child that is not their own is a pedophile - Some people are just nice. - joebus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Honestly, most Target stores and Wal-Mart stores put the Wii's out Sunday morning so just run to a store instead of sleeping in and you should be fine on finding one.
- psyonide, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I find Nintendo's 5 million users more impressive than Microsoft's 6 million figure. With the announced 6 million + users it was never really made clear how many of those were online-playing gold members and how many were just demo-downloading, horse armor-buying silver members. With Nintendo Wi-Fi's 5 million numbers you know all 5 million of them are playing games.
- sim0n20, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0New Nintendo Wii Game Releases - http://www.allreleasedates.com/NewReleases.aspx?ReleaseDateCatName=VideoGames&ReleaseDateNodeId=14219011&ReleaseDateNodeName=Nintendo%20Wii
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0good on ya Nintendo! have a beer to celebrate!
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+3Is it still WEP-only? That would be a deal-breaker for me.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1I asked nicely, i would only expect courtesy, but maybe that's too much to ask from people on digg.
- Twenty5, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Are ALL those sessions of Mario Kart Local network Play part of this too?
I mean... isnt that the only game people seem to have and enjoy? - amazingwonderzz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+0Lol, my local Target has thousands. I got mine there, and I bought one for my cousin there. We went to the Wii section, and thre were two boxes behind glass, people overlooking them. I now have 2 Wiis in my house ^^
Friend codes are still on the Wii, and they are very frusterating, because of the way to have to type (point your wiimote and press a), and how freaking long they are. - DPimp1262, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4This number is unacceptable. Let's compare. The Xbox 360 has currently sold 10 million and it's xbox live service is a healthy 6 million users. Now off the top of my head I can't remember how many ds's have been sold so I'll put the number at 40 million (it's somewhere around there). The friend code system is at 5 million. that is 12% of the units sold are playing online. Nintendo rethink friend codes for the love of god. Both systems can handle a more robust system and your users are begging for it. Don't go the way of the game cube and completely ignore your userbase. It's crying out Nintendo. Give us a proper online system.
- cesclaveria, on 10/11/2007, -11/+4of course it doesn't have friend codes... they are Mii codes...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -16/+1But how!? There's no good games for the system. I don't get it.
- whiteguysamurai, on 10/11/2007, -22/+1This is a Nintendo post, and have screened all nintendo content out,
