Just did a search and there's 4 McDonalds in my area with WiFi, and 1 without. - mikeflynt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They said 6000 McDonalds location have Wayport in them, not sure if this includes Canada or not. The official press release will come out tomorrow. Here's a link to an interview between IGN and Wayport:
http://ds.ign.com/articles/659/659017p1.html - notkevin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know what is more surprising, that there are over 45 McDonald's within 10 miles of my house or that about 30 of them have WIFI. I also didn't know McDonald's had wifi, maybe I should go eat there more often? eh, maybe not.
- manvsmonster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't even know McDonald's was a hotspot. What the heck.
- cbizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0in canada as well?
- scoobydiesel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I know mine doesnt have one but thats still cool
- briansalo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Somewhere out there, Richard Simmons is crying in a corner...
- BurntToast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is... AWESOME.
- modpancake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting.
Although, if you live in even a somewhat populated area - basically any town larger than about 75k - finding WiFi access will be about as hard as not moving a single inch anyway. So, hopefully these are only being installed in more remote McDonald's locations.
Also, I wonder if they'll allow PSP's to access it as well. - dude3609, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahahahaha..... nintendo partnering with mcdonalds. who would have ever thought. =D
Funny - jollus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why did they have to pick McDonalds?
Worst food in existance. I am glad every coffee shop in a five mile radius from my place has free wifi. - Soave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Schweet.
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The last time I tried to use a McDonalds wifi, they didn't know what the hell I was talking about when I asked them if it was on.
- Drahknon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As much as I hate to admit it, this is probably a good move.
- abeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://wayport.know-where.com/wayport/
- Mark_H, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do all McD's have this?
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Fricken WEP encryption. Easy to crack. Easy to put malicious code on your DS.
- hectorhector, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the mcdonalds in orlando by the University of Central Florida (where i attend) has:
1)free wifi
2)internet stations
3)Gamecube station with 3 gamecubes
4)multiple plasma tvs showing everyting from CNN to ESPN - TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0booo why mcdonalds theyre food sucks GO BURGERKING!
good move by them both to partner up though. - ldaley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Do people still go to McDonalds?
- Mark_H, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks like the five closest to me are WiFi-less. D'oh!
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And yes I searched their site before hand to make sure that location had wireless.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wait.....the wifi at mcdonalds is free?
- Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^^
LOL @ briansalo - Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0BTW, the Bag a McMeal only holds 6 items. See how unhealthy you can be with 6 items!
http://app.mcdonalds.com/bagamcmeal?process=home - Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They now have a menu calculator at the McDonald's website. Great, now I can see exactly how far over my recommended daily value I go, each time I eat at McDonald's.
Typical meal of 2 Cheeseburgers, Large Fries, and Vanilla Shake.
2280 calories
Fat Grams 117% of my daily value.
Saturated Fat Grams 160% of my daily value.
Sodium 99% of my daily value.
Carbohydrates 113% of my daily value.
Yay, I can sit on my laptop at McDonald's, eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner there...and then...explode. - MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm just really interested to find out if this will happen in canada. go canada!
- Seaton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"wait.....the wifi at mcdonalds is free?"
I don't know if it's free or not, getting my laptop jacked is not free. Even if you went to a McDonald's that was fairly safe, chances are some 5 year old is going to spill her milkshake on your computer. No Thanks! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As there are over 6000 McDs in Canada alone, I doubt very much that our enemies to the north will ever see Wi-Fi or the light of day, anytime soon!
haha! - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, I really like Canada (lots and lots of cousins I have there, yes). I just don't like pUrehost, and they are in Canada. Even though they "say" hey are in MA, I doubt it. Anyway - enough about my nemisis Purehostage.com, and more about me!
BTW, the McDs WiFi aint free! It is done through Verizon Clueless in our area, notty notty noxen free!. - Aneurism, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ISP Fatport has signed the deal to bring DS WiFi to Canada.
http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=6910 - jolivierld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Euro (French) McDonalds already have this.
Wifi is all over Paris. - Mexrocker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll just stand outside McDonalds...
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even though this is McDonald's, it's a good move to get people out of their house. With all of these WiFi hot spots appearing in public places, it's a good move to get those "parents' basement" types who just sit on the Internet all day to at least go somewhere else and use the Internet. The Internet is becoming more of a social experience with free WiFi spots.McDonalds is mainstream enough to actually make a noticable change in here.
By the way, McDonals has the "healthiest" food of the big three American fast food chains. They dropped the "Super Size" fries and offer salads, appls and milk replacements for Happy Meals, and sandwiches that even use wheat bread. You guys ned to stop stereotyping McD's and putting Burger King on a pedistal when that company is going under.
No one goes to BK anymore. Their food tastes the same going out as it does going in. - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The McD's by my college has free WiFi. I never use it because it's by my college which has much faster connection speeds and WiFi in every building except the sculpture studio (aka the dirty former volunteer fire station in the parking lot).
Although, this deal reminds me back when the Pokemon craze was hitting a creshendo and Burger King announced their Pokemon Night program where kids from the neighborhood could come in with their Pokemon playing cards to set up games and get some free stuff with their kid's meals. And then every kid in my neighborhood got fatter. I wonder if this'll happen again but with Mario Kart DS? - SkeletaLlama, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^don't correct me, I already know I misspelllllledd 'crescendo'. I probably made a number of other mistakes too, so there...
- kydd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I CAN GET A DS WITH MY HAPPYMEAL!!!! CUZ ITS SO KIDDY!!!! ... DS ownz psp anyday
- Bane427, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG I CAN GET MY DS ALL GREASY IN MCDONALDS NOW?!?!?! SWEET!!!
- oneninjamonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can see it now, everyone dragging their revolution to go play online at mcdonalds and by the time youve got all these people with dss together you could have wireless lan.
- mentor972, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0WOW! Let's all sit on our ass playing video games and eating Big Macs!!!
- BigBoogie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nintendo needs to throw a little video camera above the screen and put a little hd in it and they'll have the best all in one handheld out there.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"As there are over 6000 McDs in Canada alone, I doubt very much that our enemies to the north will ever see Wi-Fi or the light of day, anytime soon!"
Actually, there's a WiFi capable McD's down the road from my house and I live in Newfoundland, Canada. It went through a major overhaul in appearence and was also given WiFi. I believe it's the first of its kind in Canada. - nlatimer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"ahahahaha..... nintendo partnering with mcdonalds. who would have ever thought. =D
Funny"
