- ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41I can't connect to the Wii servers at all.
It'd probably be easier if I had a Wii. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+35Just a tip, many peeps getting error codes 32002 or 32004 may need to turn off the firewall on their routers to get the updates.
My brother has the same router as me, and he could not update until he turned his router firewall off, wheras mine worked fine without turning it off. Once the update was done and he re-enabled the firewall, online worked just fine. - nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21dang, I wish I could celebrate Christmas AND New Year's on the same day.... lucky bastard.
- fourinjuly4ij, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16@mywhitenoise
Where did you ever hear that? It's always been 500 for NES games. - UberC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14and costing at least 50 dollars annually.
- zediker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I can confirm this. I havent been able to get an update through since i picked it up at 10am sunday. At first I thought it was my router, but i checked the error messages on nintendo's customer support center for wii and learned that it was an unable to connect due to an error on their side (I.E. too many people)
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13"the playb3yond network has been running extremely fast, nonstop, since launch day. hahahaha"
That's because nearly all of the PS3 consoles in existince are sitting in their boxes, waiting to be eBayed. Hard to clog up a network that noone is connecting to. - spyork, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Don't remove the admin password on a router as someone mentioned above. That's just asking for trouble.
- baldr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Of course they are going to have problems! The only experience Nintendo has with online services is from the DS, and that was/is done with the help of gamespy. Everything will be worked out in a few days...
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12a buck a game.. ya right.. there's crappy flash games out there that cost more than that
- republicoftexas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Reminds me of when Half Life 2 came out. You could not get the game unlocked for days. It took me like 26 hours to finish. Hopefully once I get one after the new year everything will be ironed out.
- MadNuke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'm almost certain Nintendo won't let their servers drag along until Christmas.
- fordhamwt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Exactly!! Give it a few days. You know, I actually gave up on trusting any of these corporations. Al beit Mirosoft, Sony, whomever.... Nintendo has always been there in the background. they have never done anything to lose my trust... they've just been silent. I'll be silent a couple days for them. I am suprised how much I appreciate Nintendo now. I used to be whole heartedly Playstation; even though I've finally received (note not bought) a gamecube count me sad that I haven't played one sooner... Metroid prime kinda rocks. Thanks kids (my twin boys).
- matija, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11a lot of people report succes when they change their WIFI channel from 6 to 1 or 11 ..
- ministewy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9... real mature
- skywake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10@Microdot
I don't think this is a negative on Nintendo... hardly
you can't expect a launch this big to not have large traffic
of course the PS3 service is running well compared to the Wii service
the Wii has sold almost 3 times what the PS3 has
of course they are having troubles.....
personally, I read the title and smiled
:P - gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -0/+720 per week, give or take a few, to most major Best Buy stores. If the store had a midnight release, it qualifies as Major.
- SpazticChips, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The money be coming in quickly, but Nintendo is going to have to go through the course "Hosting Popular Servers 101" and buy a lot of Servers.
- Upsizer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Exactly. There's no way they won't buy enough servers for Christmas after their service already got hit hard once.
This reminds me of launch day WoW... 4 servers... what were they thinking.... - beters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Thats weird, I just downloaded 3 VC games today, and one yesterday. I haven't had a problem connecting to WII shopping yet.
- sp00nz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I set mine up at 9am on sunday. No problems. Got both updates in a few minutes and then went to playing Twilight Princess.
- Harabeck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I set mine up about noon Sunday. Worked just fine.
- jobeus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I thought there was a problem for a while, until I realized my router was set to G only and the Wii has B... Could that be anyone's problem? Worked great after that.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hey, another Sony toolbox on Digg. What do you know!
- jtdgrz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've been fine. Connecting to shop and updating was easy and painless.
Edit: just checked again, no error codes and I could connect to shop. - LMControl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5According to NOA, I'm going to have to send mine back. It seems the firmware update fried the unit. They are shipping me another one in 3-4 business days with a pre-paid label to send the other one back.
- Broccoli, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Does the update fix or do anything, because i havent bother hooking it up to the net yet. I have to set up a wifi.
- rnelsonee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Has anyone else not needed any updates? My Wii said he had the latest, and online access has been nothing but very fast for me, so I know it's working...
- Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@republicoftexas: I purchased HL2 over Steam, and preloaded it. Come launch day, I fired up Steam, waited a few minutes to decrypt it, and played. Problem with Steam were probably regional (Steam has regional servers), so whatever area you were in probably had a higher demand than servers, where other locales had low demand for the number of servers.
My guess with the Wii issues is that the same thing is happening. Since some people are having no problems and some people are having big problems, this might be a regional issue, or one that is just affecting a few servers. Regardless, I'm sure they'll bring more capacity online soon, especially considering how they plan to have pushed out 4 million consoles in the next 40 days (they have roughly 700k sold right now). - sephiroth965, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Oh god it's not another dreamcast is it?!
- proudcanadian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea, I have yet to have a connection problem yet. How long until the News channel works?
- cody50, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5man, that boomerang is handy.
- Hords, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was able to update on launch day (around 1:30AM PST), although it took about 45 minutes. What I couldn't do was connect to the shopping channel immediately afterward. It would just try connecting forever. I left it on for an hour trying (and had tried a few other times) and it never got anywhere. The next day it worked, although it was very slow. I guess they just weren't prepared for all the traffic.
- shockertwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3To my knowledge, connecting and playing is free. Its downloading the software thats going to cost ya. That includes games and all. I even heard they were charging for the free opera browser that is supplied :S
And by free, i mean freely available to public use on PC's. Thought i should clear that up - whiskerlickins, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Yeah, I'm getting error code 32002. Thanks for the tip...trying now.
- humanawho, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Anyone with the lucky error code "110213" wins a second new Wii, wahoo fatal error, your wii got on the internet once, got scared and won't go back; its ok i think this internet thing is just a fad anyhow.
- nstern2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was just on wii shopping and it was working fine, no slowdown. The updates take forever to finish though. Now all we need is a firmware update for the ds so I don't have to change my encryption every time I want to play some Mario Kart ds.
- LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Your campus doesn't have wifi?
- directedition, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I doubt christmas will be much more. The hardcore gamers that will care about updates will have bought their system before christmas, not wanting to wait. Kids and other people who can't buy release day aren't as likely to demand online services. I'll bet most systems never really get setup for internet access. Kids are just going to pop in Zelda and that'll be the last they ever see of the Wii Menu.
- cmdrNacho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I initially had a problem too.. if anyone is experiencing a problem... first make sure its not nintendos fault be either disabling your security, and try connecting, or removing the router out completely and make a direct connection to your modem (cable / dsl). If it does work then the problem is with your setup. I tried several times to let the wii do it automatically but didn't work. Then I did it manually and it worked like a charm with WPA security. Go through the manual steps to do it, and when it asks for MTU enter 1500 and you should be good to go. I suggest trying even the manual set up first. Good luck.
- retral, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's been slow & up/down on and off since sunday morning at 1am Eastern standard - We tried updating the wii many times, eventually we succeeded but only to find out it needed to update again.. the second update went through once without failure, but the first one took at least 5 tries.
BTW: The update isn't totally necessary, you can play games just fine without it. - Kanna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Worked fine in Canada. I got my updates just fine right after I got home at about 11am. Then I was browsing the virtual console marketplace and then I set up connect24. Everything worked like a charm.
- sulthernao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Opera is free for the first 6 months, and then you get to keep it forever.
- MoeB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2they're probably using the Wii to host the content.
- snorggy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i had problems connecting on launch day too. I thought it was nintendo's servers getting hammered, but after reading their forums i read a post about changing the router channel to 1 or 11 and it worked. i suggest everyone who is having problems connecting try this out.
- jwasko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I don't have WiFi...or broadband internet, or Windows XP
Yep, just plain old dialup and Windows ME. (Cue computer geek chorus of laughter)
Well, that is, at home where my Wii is...at college (where I am now), I have a pretty sick (though by far not 1337) computer by comparison. But still, no Wifi.
PS: Laugh it up, fuzzball. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I ran the update around midnight eastern time last night, and it was a breeze. About 3 hours earlier, it had stalled within the first 5%.
If you're up, try waiting until 12 or 1am. - saska, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Opera makes its money now by charging for its specialized browser versions for other devices. It wasn't always free for the PC.
And in my opinion, it's the only browser on the planet worth paying for, so you won't hear me bitching. - LavaHot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I bought mine at 12:30 Am Pacific and I haven't been able to connect to the wii store, but I've gotten both updates. When it tries to connect to download the user agreements, the thing gives me a 220602 error, which is an unspecified error code. Nintendo's phone support is slammed and hasn't let up yet, so I'll wait a few days then try to get back online and call if necessary.
- SkippyDoorknob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It adds the ability to copy save games from the internal memory to the SD card. I have no idea what else was changed.
