- koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Disclaimer: I am Japanese-American.
Those are perfectly valid romanizations of the Japanese characters. Si is often substituted for Shi, and the extra s is a pause. So you could write Yossi as Yo'shi. Obviously Zeruda -> Zerda, and the cart is just plain obvious. Kuppa...say it out loud. Ku -> Koo, ppa -> pa; Koo'pa.
You think American's are filing these patents? Isn't it more logical to assume that Japanese engineers are designing the console and developing the patent, /THEN/ translating it? If anything, it gives the patent more credibility, as it looks like it definitely came from Japan. - KevinJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They misspelled Yoshi as Yossi. I know an Isreali Security Guard named Yossi. Is he an Italian Dinosaur too?
- distrbnce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1worthy digg
- TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1everyone should read koko775`s comment when crying about mispellings
+digg - theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I sense a crackdown on ROM trading once the Revolution comes out.
- aepex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Slap a pretty GUI on that and it should work great for a freehand pointing device.
+digg - kepsux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The interface looks a bit like the level selection interface for Yoshi's Island. Good stuff.
- demha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, I am so glad people are coming to their senses and seeing that the Nintendo Revolution is the obvious better of the three (This coming from an ex-playstation fanboy that converted when he saw the revolution's controller). The Xbox 360 and PS3 are just major internal upgrades of their older counterparts. Woo...it looks more realistic... =/ . I'm sorry but after going back and playing the Super Nintendo again earlier this month, I'll have to say that Donkey Kong Country 2 is my favorite ga EVER, realistic graphics or not.
Sorry about this long rant, I'll shut up now - TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"No, they shouldnt. Since Nintendo would have the correct translations, and most games have english titles in japan."
yes they should lol and all the inventors are japanese theres bound to be misspellings in a SAMPLE.and why would most be in english when they are japanese made games =P sure some are in english but not most. - Osiriscky3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1day by day i want a revolution. This console out of all 3 leaps out at me as being more bang for your buck. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.
++DIGG FTW - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's real, guys, have a look
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtml/search-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=ptxt&s1=6955606&OS=6955606&RS=6955606 - WeeklyGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks interesting, does anyone else read it as you can download the games and play them once and then you have to download them again the next time you want to play them?
- GodsHand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is a real patent for the Revolution. Looks sweet.
Also looks like if you're playing a game like the original Super Mario Bros., you can change your character to other Nintendo icons. Neato. - Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, I noticed that as well. I wasn't going to digg this story, until Shii posted that link~
- systemghost, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YOSSI!
- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Never mind, didn't see that they linked to the actual patent +digg.
- KSOVII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm pretty sure it also says "The Legend of Zerda".
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They also say "Mariocart 64"
- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OMG.
Super Mario RPG!
I never got around to beating that game... I got about half way through then my cousin accidently tripped over the cartridge and everything got erased. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hey... this was filed in 2001 and has a picture of the GameCube.
- masterzora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@nolf:
'IT'S A FAKE!!!
Mariokart is spelled wrong. Nintendo would not have submited a patent application with a misspelling.'
Is it really? Then why do they link to the actual patent in the actual patent database that is actually filed by Nintendo? That's a lot of work to fake something...
These pictures are from NOJ, doing rough tranlations instead of the full translations that we usually see. These are perfectly legit. - Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It seems practical and simple enough...
+ digg - CaptSnuffy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I didn't know they were offering 64 era games. Revolution will pwn.
- IanCube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah the images even show older games like Dr. Mario, Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64...even shows a tab system for how the games will be shown and stuff, looks like a pretty intuitive UI.
- asdfasdf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This site has by far the best layout of any website on the internet. WOW.
- marcus_r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm honestly reserving judgment until E3 of next year. I want to see what Nintendo and Sony have in store for us.
- macgabriel87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0are they suppose to tag their logos with the images from the US Patent Office?
- spikeshinizle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is quite big news. Thanks for the info Revo Report!
- GolfDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for those saying its fake b/c the spelling is wrong.. you are forgetting NOA isnt the ones making the machine.. its NOJ.. and thats how you spell those players/games names in japaneese before americanization.. Yossi is said Yoshi in japan, but NOA changed it to Yoshi to americanize it.. kuppa is said as koopa, which is how NOA spells it.. remember where the machine is getting made and how NOA is the one who has to take NOJ's ideas to submit to the american pattents people to get it approved.. they dont have to translate anything.. and its not fake b/c of the spellings, its the original NOJ documents

"but they still haven't explained how in the world you're supposed to play Super Nintendo or Nintendo 64 games on the Revolution controller."
Well, they haven't said explicitly, but they did hint very heavily...
They said that a "traditional-style" shell will be released for the wand to play games if you don't like the wand style. One can only assume that this shell will be used for classic games. - kevin_qnn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0go to the patent website and search for number 6,955,606. its registered to nintendo, its not fake.
- TGZRyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Some pretty big engrish going on there.
I'm betting this came straight from Nintendo of Japan, not from NOA. The translations are very poor probably due to coming straight from Japan and they aren't known for precise translations. - TheGooseyOne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why would nintendo itself misspell "mario kart"?
- innerspirit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the inventors listed are all japanese, it is rather obvious its a translation issue, given that those were just examples they shouldnt care about the translation
- bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That whole revamping old games with new characters sounds really cool. I think even cooler would be some sort of customization/edit thing that you can then distribute via Nintendo WiFi
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Interesting...
But they still haven't explained how in the world you're supposed to play Super Nintendo or Nintendo 64 games on the Revolution controller. Of course it's well suited for NES games, but it lacks the buttons for even a Super Nintendo game. Some people were speculating that you'd be able to use a Gamecube controller, but no one actually knows anything yet. - Jestermask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Mariokart is spelled wrong. Nintendo would not have submited a patent application with a misspelling."
Except for the fact that the "misspelling" isn't on the application itself, but rather on example drawings/pictures that were included. You could spell anything any way you want to in an example of an interface. It's not a fake. Sheesh. - WillyWonka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Psykus: there are photos of the slots where the gamecube controllers plug in and they say that it reads gamecube disks as well. http://img.gamespot.com/gamespot/images/2005/news/05/17/revo_screen006.jpg
- Biggles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0RevReport does it again.
- IanCube, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Right, that is the assumption, although it is unknown at this time. Some have even speculated that there may be an adapter to plug in any old controller into the console, but then you must assume that people still have those controllers laying around.
- clumsyninja, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Even though I'm playing it on my computer now (I owned the cart a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away), can't wait to play Zelda OOT on Revolution.
- iKato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Once again, @crpietschmann, it's real. Read the previous comments. Some things don't translate perfectly from Japanese into English and visa versa. (i.e. there is no character for the "l" sound in Katakana)
Anyways, I want the Revolution now more.
+digg - metacoola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Its real guys, if you scrolled down to the bottom, it has a link to the *REAL* patent of the U.S. They didn't hack it guys...
- NeoTechni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"everyone should read koko775`s comment when crying about mispellings"
No, they shouldnt. Since Nintendo would have the correct translations, and most games have english titles in japan. - Tixer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Methinks you are blind. Anyone fail to see:
Kuppa
Legend Of Zerda
Mariocart
Yossi - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1OOoh, so cool. :) +digg.
-e http://digg.mediahug.com/ - crpietschmann, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The Legend of Zerda Series???
- nolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0IT'S A FAKE!!!
Mariokart is spelled wrong. Nintendo would not have submited a patent application with a misspelling. - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0FaKe!! I dont think Nintendo would spell there games wrong.
