- Inthearmor, on 10/12/2007, -9/+90If this is true, which I doubt, its a big mistake on Nintendo's part. Revolution is such a better name!
- fishindiesea, on 10/12/2007, -3/+55i agree that "Ninteno Go" is a retarded name for a console. IMO it could be the online network that hey have planned to play and distribute "retro" games
- Kazbaeden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19I love how digg titles are usually missing qualitative words like "maybe" and "perhaps" and "rumored." Everything is for sure 100% true.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Sadly, they could call it the Nintendo BabyRaper and I'd still buy it.
- redsrule2500, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18It's gotta be the online service, just look at the logo.
- Jorenko, on 10/12/2007, -5/+20Remember though, that Revolution is just the codename, and has never been announced as the official name of the product.
That said, I agree. I want it to be Revolution. I agree with some posters below who say that this is probably the online service. - ryanblock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17We definitely did *not* say this was sure -- this was sent to us by a reader! Who knows if it's real?
Best, Ryan - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14Ohh, good idea fishindiesea. That does sound like a distinct possibility. If you're gonna change the Revolution name, then you at least need to come up with something better. At least they are coming up with a name, and not just making it a sequel ala PS3 or XBOX 360.
- Angmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10GO does make some sense because go is Japanese for five. That name would make sense for the Vitural console because only three systems games are on it.
- iluvatar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14sounds like the name of a dancing game: nintango!
- volcompimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11That comment caught my eye too...
If it is a hoax, I think it's just a play on words since other people are saying 'go' in Japanese means 'five'.
1. NES
2. SNES
3. N64
4. Gamecube
5. Profit... j/p - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I am reminded of when rumors quickly surfaced that Project Dolphin was going to be renamed to "Starcube" right after Nintendo trademarked that name. The rumors ended up having a bit of truth to them. If I remember correctly, president Iwata insisted on the name "Starcube" while most everyone else (including Miyamoto) were in favor of the name "Gamecube".
I also think Nintendo's online thing for the "StarCube" was going to be called "StarRoad" or "StarWay" or something along those lines. It was later officially dubbed "MarioNet" which is a play on the word "Marionette".
edit: here's an old article documenting the Starcube rumor: http://www.planetgamecube.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=4789 - UezeU, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Not gonna happen. If anything it would be for a portable device.
- Angmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I just realized that the logo has three d-pads (NES, SNES, N64) and a cube (GCN)
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9OKAMA GAMESPHERE!
-Dont forget to bring a towel.. - geoboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Oops, it was NOT Iwata who insisted on the Starcube name. It was the then Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi. That makes sense. Yamauchi was a crazy old man. :D
- Nation, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9the text on the page that is linked to is accurate
the description on this page is inaccurate.
There should be a way to edit the submitted blurb & title here. - aggieandrew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'm pretty sure they intend it to be pronounced GEE-OH, not the word go. Either way, if this is true, in a few weeks it will catch on and it will sound weird to refer to it as the Revolution.
- v0id, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9who cares what its called just get it to my house fast!
- rhino_rampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My perdiction:
Nintendo GO == Xbox LIVE - DenZ88, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"Update: Engadget Japan editor Ittousai let us know that there's too little information to tell exactly what's going on here, but the text contains fragments like "the brand (reflects)," "contains system-level," and "-technology in latest info." Well, at least we know it's not completely fake Japanese."
I'm hoping that "too little information" implies no GO
Nintendo Go sounds like *****. - russizm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7So, GO is 5 in Japan?
That was only repeated 32472234892034 times in this thread. - dromeditor, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Yeah...that was a joke. Hence the all caps "clearly"; sarcasm is kind of hard to express online.
In all seriousness, though, the 'G' in the logo does kind of look like a 6. - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"go" is Japanese for "five". Is it a coincidence that the Revolution is the fifth console? It's unlikely that the system will get a Japanese word as its name for a worldwide release. It's similar to when we all refered to the system as the N5 (Nintendo 5).
Then again, most Americans won't know it's the Japanese word "go" meaning "five" but rather the English word "go" meaning the command tense of the verb "to move one self". - rhino_rampant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4My thoughts EXACTLY! I guess sensationalism will forever be a person's "Fifteen minutes of fame!" vice....
- robrueda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I agree, go is actually 5 in japanese: Nintendo 5. if this is true i totally like it.
- TheGalacticFork, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Revolution is a fitting name since that's what it's intended to start for gaming.....
Though the article does mention that 'Go' is the Japanese word for the number 5 and the Rev. is Nintendo's 5th major home console(this exludes Virtual Boy). Digg for interesting slide and conspiracy theory!
Let's hope they keep the name 'Revolution' - LavosPhoenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He didn't "forget" the handhelds... he said CONSOLES. Handheld systems are just that, they will be part of the handhelds that are sold seperately. Virtual Boy is not acknowledged since it bombed, and Nintendo doesn't even want to recognize it's existence.
- DnH500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It sounds like online services to me
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That would certainly help change their branding strategy. I like it.
"Dude, are you still playing that Xbox 360?"
"Hell no, I got the new Nintendo BABY RAPER!"
Whenever the Revolution comes out, whatever they call it, I think I'll just say I'm playing the Baby Raper. - ViperDaimao, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Do you have any evidence for the affirmative? YOU have to PROVE it to ME before I will believe it. The burden of proof lies on the one making the claim.
- TubaFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But what will the "Platinum Bundle" version be called??
- Sturmur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What a bad name. Revolution is absolutely brilliant. It would be stupid to change it now.
- bking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Flagged inaccurate. People shouldn't jump to conclusions so easily.
It could be anything, even the "theme" for their exhibition, or any of the other stuff people predicted. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Ichi: FamiCom/NES
Ni: SNES
San: N64
Shi: GameCube
Go: ??? - Waffledog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Go" doesn't really make sense if it's a stay-at-home console... a portable, maybe, but a console?
- FlatLine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This story is bogus. Viva Revolution!
- fani, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Only one other company had go before.... anyone....anyone.... thought so.
It was Disney. And look what happened to Go. - Roscoe1976, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Engadget Guirilla marketing. Someone tell these guys to knock it off, its tainting the content on Digg.
- dumbtech, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6"That's not the Revolution at all. That's just the old Japanese game Go. It's played with circles on a grid -- more or less exactly that logo."
- TotallyAtRandom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This could also be a name for their online community. Maybe they're leaving the Wi-Fi Connection behind and making it a bit more snappy.
- OwenX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Meh. Don't they know that if their console is called the revolution, they can say Viva la revolution?
Seriously thats just awesome. - wearescience, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Even though "go" is five in Japanese (phonetically), I don't think they would sell a product called the Nintendo five, even if it is their fifth console. They are not going to market a product named after a play on words that most of the world wont understand. Everyone in japan knows what "go" means in English. It is therefor much more likely that the "go" has nothing to do with five, and has everything to do with mobility.
- mrgreen4242, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's got to be it. Nintendo WiFi always sounded lame, and it was pretty clearly just a test to see how people liked it. Now that they know it's gonna work, and they are readying the next system to integrate into that network, they will be adding more features and changing the branding.
GO will be Nintendo's LIVE, although I suspect that it will be closer to Battle.net in implementation. If you think of Go as that sort of service, not the console, it actually sounds pretty catchy.
On an unrelated note, I hope they expand downloadable classics to the DS. I want a portable SNES! (Yes, I know that I flash the DS firmware, and get a flashcart and play SNES games - kinda sorta - but I'd be happy to pay for them and have them supported). - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6The second runner up was Nintendo JUST WENT
- bloodylip, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7Nintendo is going to start selling Geos? I've lost all faith in them. Those were some pretty crappy cars.
- NetworkShadow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's a bad name if it's the real deal... Nice looking logo though.
- wusch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what? go means 5 in japanese? ( lol .... )
- MaoSca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@ volcompimp
I did :( - TetsuoSama, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Only if you forget the handhelds and the ill-fated Virtual Boy. What a winner that was!
NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, 5
I like it. -

What is Digg?
