- TheCount, on 10/12/2007, -7/+71I don't understand why he gets modded down for saying it's $50 less than the core xbox 360. It's not like he's making it up. Is this what the comment system is for? To mod down comments simply because you don't like them? Don't turn digg into crap, please.
- CatfishJones, on 10/12/2007, -4/+59Innacurate. Yahoo! is probably going off of the "no more than $250" quote. They provide no proof or source that the Wii has been "formally priced" at $250.
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -7/+48Yeah, exactly. Who's even heard of newsfactor.com? I'll believe it when I see it on nintendo.com.
- altodarknight, on 10/12/2007, -20/+56only 50 less that the cheapest xbox 360. Although, it is hardly official, just a maximum price that it will be.
- soogy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Truthiness.
- kneu1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+34I just did a quick news search and came up empty - If Nintendo really did announce the price more news outlets would have picked it up. Like other people have said it is probably a misquote of the $250.00 ceiling Nintendo put on the Wii.
Un-Dugg - luke--, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27I think this is just bad grammar / bad journalism. Someone interpreted the price cieling of $250 as the official price.
When Nintendo sets an actual price point, I'm sure there will be a corresponding Nintendo-sourced press release. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Themselves.
- GLucas, on 10/12/2007, -5/+27true, but you forget that the no one buys the cheapest 360, because it is just that; the cheapest
- Qorzm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Who is Yahoo's source?
- Omega697, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16How about the fact that it says "Official" and yet there's no word from Nintendo? Yahoo does not set the prices for Nintendo's console.
Marked inaccurate. - Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19No sources no digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+21It's going to be $200.
Nintendo CAN NOT launch the Wii at just $50 less than a core 360. - Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14I don't see anything about 250 being the price on joystiq, ebgames, gamespot or nintendo's site, so I'm going to wait until the Internet is plastered with Wii price stories.
- Omega697, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Your mom is a hooker. Do you have a source that proves it wrong? Oh! Burn!
Appeal To Ignorance. Look it up: http://info-pollution.com/ignorance.htm - RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11So troll the digg cloud like the rest of us and try to prevent crap stories from making it to the front page.
- esaks, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15I thought the 360 core system was being discontinued?

Nintendo has never lost money on a console when it was first released. They have always made a tidy profit off each one. - SilentPurity, on 10/12/2007, -13/+21Couldn't have been said better my new friend. =D
- xAXISx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Graphics aren't quantitative.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Wow, so being a respectable digg user constitutes fanboyism?
- JohnP, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7titanass - The Wii DOES NOT NEED MEMORY CARDS. Go read the tech specs.
It has 512MB internal flash memory. - rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Newsfactor.comis legit, but I am not sure of the content. I would wait for Wii to show up on nintendo.com.
- Aiwanei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5newsfactor can't tell the difference between confirmed as $250 and that nintendo has said the price won't exceed $250.
- unreal32, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4hookid is spamming digg with inaccurate information. OFFICIAL.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6actually morphine, the story isnt from yahoo, it is just shown on yahoo. The story is written from newsfactor... and they don't have anything to back their story up.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Could you post a link to the $100 remote price? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
- lrm21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Here is the official word from Nintendo
Nintendo also confirmed that the price of the Wii system, which incorporates unique freehand control, will NOT exceed $250 in America, or Y25,000 in Japan.
http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=9648
They still have not set a final price point.
So the Digg Title is inaccurate as is the Yahoo link. - lock720, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5This article on yahoo was originally posted on newsfactor.com, http://www.newsfactor.com/story.xhtml?story_id=13200003F92O . The official Nintendo announcement was posted (http://press.nintendo.com/articles.jsp?id=9648) on May 25th, this article was posted the next morning. Apparently this is neither new information nor accurate.
- mutantmagnet, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5There aren't any other supporting news articles so I won't digg it.
- Daedalus81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31) Why is it bad press? If everyone expects $250 because of said logic and then they release it at $200 then won't everyone be happy?
2) That is -entirely- your opinion.
3) If they didn't match inflation with previous consoles what would be the reasoning to do that now if they are still making a profit at $200?
All this "why say $250 if they mean $200?" proves only that two things are infinite... - Qorzm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Why is this still up?
- btipling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nintendo would have a press release or something, and I don't see one.
- drakonite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Indeed, it seems a LOT of people are misinterpreting what The Big N said, and it's fairly evident that is what happened here as well...
I can't fault people in general, as with any other company I would have expected the "under $250" comment to mean $249.99, however with as cryptic N has been with details and as much as they are aiming at the casual and non-gamers, I think the comment is just to elaborate on their "it will be affordably priced" comments of before to help quench the rumors by providing a ceiling. - bnoj13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's not bad press...having the public expect $250 and then getting it for $200 would make everyone happy..
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3hey, arrogant b... I mean, coheedcollapse. What "multiple news sources"?
Yeah - if I could report your comment as inaccurate - I would. Moron.
It's inaccurate for the simple fact that it says "OFFICIAL" when it is *NOT* official.
The only "official" word from Nintendo is that the Wii "will not exceed $250 in America" - Will not exceed $250 is not the same as "It will cost $249.99" - $1.50 does not exceed $250. $239.28 does not exceed $250. $199 does not exceed $250. $149.99 does not exceed $250. There is plenty of room under $250. In fact, an infinite amount of room - especially when dealing with non-whole numbers and negative numbers. I don't expect Nintendo to pay us to take their Wii - but "OFFICIAL"ly - there's nothing stopping them. - Piper7865, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Reported as inaccurate no digg
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"I doubt Nintendo would make much profit (if any) even if the system doesn't have "high-end" hardware. Game system manufacturers usually lose money on consoles and plan to make it up on games/accessories/etc (or I guess lose money just to acquire market share in some cases.) I recall reading that Microsoft lost about $130 for each Xbox sold around the time they came out."
When they came out they were $299, which would put them at $430 to produce in 2001.... In 5 years one would think the cost of technology would drop quite a bit.... - nitroskanker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If it's on Yahoo it's OFFICIAL!! Haha wow this keeps getting diggs... it's sad.
- mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok so what if it IS 249.99 - putting it 50$ away from the xbox360?
- gism82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2reported as inaccurate..ffs..
- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Note to self: Writing the word "official" in caps in a title on digg automatically and retroactively makes it official, and not subject to any bad journalism, inaccurate reports, or speculation....
- muleking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3once i saw Yahoo news i assumed this was fake, Yahoo news is inaccurate and awful.
- yoda133113, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4@ morphine
Actually yahoo is a rather sucky source for news, for one they mostly just use news from other sites (thus you must trust the site that post the news, in this case it's newsfactor.com). But also they have in the past (more than once) posted Weekly World News articles as real news items, which since WWN is a tabloid/humor newspaper in which nothing is true (or very little at best) this shows that yahoo news shouldn't be trusted by itself. http://www.snopes.com/science/sunboom.htm http://www.snopes.com/humor/iftrue/insider.htm, those 2 articles are both examples of yahoo posting WWN articles, there are more - nitroskanker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Digg should have an "inaccurate" icon on the front page next to stories that have been flagged like this one so that blind diggers think twice.
- Nezzari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It won't be $250
Oh, btw, this is a console... a CONSOLE. Who cares if it does't communicate with XP media center! - mirunit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Ok, no more than 250.00 could very well mean 249.99 - why would they say no more than 250 then turn around and price it at 199.99, then they could of just said no more than 200.
- psynautic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ Feanor.
Almost true, Nintendo DS has been supposed that it was sold at a very minimal loss at launch. between 5-15$. And all this sold at a loss business is all estimated by outside sources, nobody but the companies themselves really know how much it costs them to produce. -
