- NOAMattD, on 10/12/2007, -10/+78Oh yeah, those $49.99 games are gonna KILL my wallet. What were they THINKING?? :P
- Easty, on 10/12/2007, -15/+83Wtf? Did you even read the article? Where does it say it costs anything?
Cos, you know, $599 for RIIIIIDGE RACERRR!!! is a lot better. - Ub3rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+35This isn't a new feature. It was mentioned in the Nintendo press conference in mid-September.
- bashar129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33"The Play History is another new feature offered by the Wii, and refers to the console's ability to keep track of, obviously, what games have been played and for how long...the data collected is unable to be deleted"
I could see how this could be helpful
'No detective, I couldn't have killed her. As you can see, I was playing with my Wii at the time' - pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31I wish I could get a mortgage from Tom Nook in real life, too. He's pretty easy going on his payment schedule.
- nakke, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33Hey hey Easty, it has real time weapon switching too. Check your facts.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25so its kinda like animal crossing but with out the animals, or the enviroment.
- Sirocco, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I wish I could pay my mortgage with bells.
- smithco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19On the topic of proof-reading, is "breatless" missing an 'h' or an 's' next to the 't'? You're either describing an exasperated state or the shape of the body there, and it's not clear which.
- negativefx, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24@DrStankus: Not that I'm straight edge by any means, or that I agree with XAsmodeaNX, but how does being straight edge make you retarded? To quote you: "your retarded." I always find it humorous when people call others retarded and can't even form a grammatically correct two word sentence.
- positron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19@dj
If you think the rise in wages outpaces or even matches the effects of inflation, you are sadly mistaken. - marchingsax15, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20oh boy...more penis jokes about the name. get over it
- Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -8/+24Could all the 11 year olds that think the Wii is too expensive please stop posting spam?
Yes, the Wii is expensive if you make your money delivering newspapers or running lemonade stands.
But compared to EVERY other console released before the Wii, including NES, SNES, N64, the PS, PS2, and XBox and XBox360, even the Atari!!! the Wii is actually the cheapest. When you start factoring in inflation over that period of time, consoles like the NES would probably cost over $500! The Atari would have been over $800! Most of these systems shipped with NO games and ONE controller, which is on par for this industry.
I think that people have so little to complain about the Wii that they are trying to suggest that its too expensive, when the Wii is cheaper then all other consoles. I have always had to pay for an extra controller and add a few games when I have bought other game consoles, at least Nintendo isn't gouging me for the cost of the console.
Lets put it this way, the Wii is cheaper then the PSP, and we all know what a POS the PSP is! - djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15I wish it only took a day to add a second story to my house.
- commodore64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14What if you just left the game on pause?
- Paul, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13they've revealed an interesting statistical feature, called ...
Service Temporarily Unavailable
Shoot I've been waiting for them to add one of those! - tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12har har you guys fed the troll.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Alright, I'm sorry, and I know it's a breatless sweaty point in time when you try to get the first story onto Digg, but, seriously, could you not at least proof-read the ***** TITLE?
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I like the idea of sending to my friends what game I just bought.
- marchingsax15, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10oh no bashar, i was referring to vawksel's comment. His pun was intended but your post had nothing about the name being sexual.
- marchingsax15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I don't even think it's even close to the achievement system for the 360. Seems like it just keeps track of what games you play and how long.
But like you said, it won't be a major selling point. - Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16So......it's just like the 360's acchievement system, but not as cool
There are a lot of reasons to love the Wii, but I'm thinking that this won't be one of them - Topher06, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Because, you can add most of these feature for free once you get a CPU and memory in a piece of electronics.
Honestly, I doubt Nintendo invested millions in adding a message board or weather channel to the Wii. Since they were aiming to have internet connectivity, having some data stream to the box that already has internet connectivity is trivial.
The channel concepts and content has anything to do with the cost of the console, they are there simply because all the technology is in place to offer them as a sideshow. Its not like Nintendo is forcing Blu-ray drives or hard drives into every unit which actually increases the unit cost.
The Wii is already the cheapest console released in history, so why complain that a $250 console should really cost $200? Go sell some more lemonade and save your allowance and stop complaining about the cost of the Wii. - Darkshine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I wish I had "da monies" to keep Tom Nook from breaking my legs.
- EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dugg up for sheer, brutal honestly.
"Yes, the Wii is expensive if you make your money delivering newspapers or running lemonade stands."
I bought my NES with newspaper money, between myself and my brother, back in the day. For what kids can make doing menal chores around the neighborhood, the price of a Wii is more than reasonable. Nintendo doesn't manufacture garbage - my NES still works, so you're getting your money's worth.
//you don't need cash for all the games that come out
//just rent a bunch on mom's Blockbuster account
//and wait for $ANNUAL_GIFT_GIVING_DAY to ask for the really good titles
//get off my lawn - gin613, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"E-mail messages can also be exchanged between mobile phones and Wii."
How Nintendo has changed. Last generation they had very little multimedia interaction and now look at what they have. - SeBBBe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I think it seems like an awesome way to come closer to all of your online friends.
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I had to use duggmirror to check this out (stupid work filters) - and got a 404. Someone want to do a little cut'n'paste or provide a longer sum up?
- Kuipo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/Nintendo_New_Wii_Featured_Revealed
- humbled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's *not* just a repeat of the press conference information. The article reveals more information about the capabilities of the message board. Honestly, before I read this, I thought the message board would be a useless feature for me. Now it looks like I'll actually be able to have some fun uses for it, with my friends who are also purchasing a Wii.
(Oh, well, there's also the play statistics information in there too. I don't particularly care about that, but it's cool.) - gamerply5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@nakke
You can't forget about the historical giant enemy crab monster. - tehbio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Untakennick seems to believe that money value isn't time deictic.
=/ - EricAnderton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Interesting point.
FWIW, Nintendo *did* have the "family computer" as the core concept behind the debut of the "famicom" back in the early 80's - the North America prototype even included a keyboard. So one does wonder if they were merely 20 years too early with the concept, and this box does indeed take over the living-room like they originally planned. Everything I've seen about the Wii so far points in this direction.
Then again, maybe Nintendo just can't let the idea go, even if it's a bad one. In 1985, there were a lot of C64's (and god only knows what else) plugged into TV's so the NES would have been hard pressed to the top spot as the family computer. The current landscape looks no different, and if anything, worse for Nintendo along these lines.
...but at worst, it'll just be another toy/console. :) - LouisC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Statistics. You can see what game you play the most and how much time you spend playing each game.
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The source in english:
http://ms.nintendo-europe.com/wii/?site=v3_03.html&l=enGB
I don't know why they updated the europe site before wii.nintendo.com though. - fredgsanford, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So the Wii costs $114 in 1986 dollars.
- djSyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3"But his point is that buying power has increased, so the Wii is cheaper to us now."
His point is backed up with made up numbers. Do you always take your talking points from people too lazy to do actual math? - davehendrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1man even the duggmirror page for this thing is down...what is the new feature!???!?!?!
- julencin2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The source in spanish:

Regards. - millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Bill isn't personally responsible for everything that happens at Microsoft, especially the Xbox division. He doesn't even have an active role in the company anymore.
Technically you should be "boo-ing" Ballmer, but that wouldn't be cliche enough for you. With that final 108 "yays" for PS3, I'd say your understanding of basic logic is thrown out the window.
BTW, Final Fantasy XI was Ken/Sony's failure?? - untakennick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3@Topher06 : Cheapest console release in history? What about when the SNES was launched - at $199? (Like the N64, GameCube and NES)....If anything, Nintendo has broken tradition. It's the HIGHEST launch price of a Nintendo console to date...
Regardless, it's still a good price, even if it's pricy to get the accessories.
Nostalgia... I don't think I ever looked forward to a console more than I did for the SNES... - Splitt3rxx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1sounds cool, but FORGET ABOUT THE DAMN FRIEND CODES!!!! JUST LET ME ADD ANYONE!!!!
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It doesn't just track your games, it also acts as a notification system and a message board. It's pretty cool if you ask me.
- hurfydurfur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you allow anyone, you get spammed or harassed.
- andrewrchambers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if they allowed you to send messages to anyone theres a remote chance that you might send something to me....
and i really dont want that - smithco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3FzArEkTaH, I'll just assume that those are tears of joy. I like to think everyone has a passion for grammar. It's just that most people are in denial about it.
- herogear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wait, someone beat me to the punch and bitched about no numbers:
So I went here:
http://inflationdata.com/Inflation/Inflation_Rate/InflationCalculator.asp#results
and discovered the inflation rate between Jan 2006 and Jan 1994 is 35.64% (if you wanna believe their calculator - another potential thing to bitch about perhaps?)
So, given this, 200 in 1994 would = 200 * 1.3564 = $271.28 in 2006 US dollars
Likewise, 250 in 2006 would = 250 / 1.3564 = $184.81 in 1994 US dollars
So, it's not as drastic as some would say, but at least between 94 and 06, a dollar then would be worth more than a dollar today. And so yes, the Wii is actually a small bit cheaper than consoles back in the day. Then again, according to the exact year you want to compare to, your milage may vary.
No can we please stop complaining about how the cheapest next gen console is 'too much money' with one breath while trying to justify a 600-dollar toy with the next? - herogear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1For all you kids who don't know better:
$200 in 1994 does not = $200 in 2006
$200 in 1981 does not = $200 in 2006
So if you would like to get anal, we could see how the rate of inflation and the weakening of the US dollar has affected things, and find the 'true' price of a SNES vs. a Wii (in terms of 2006 US dollars) - hurfydurfur, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1+major sobby fest
- Toad008, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Bury me, replied in wrong spot.
