- stevegasm, on 10/27/2007, -1/+35Perhaps they'll release it in the US just in time for when the FCC discontinues all analog OTA signals.
- JayD16, on 10/30/2007, -1/+30The Game Gear was way ahead of its time. Too bad it ate batteries like no bodies business.
- n8r0n, on 10/30/2007, -2/+28Reminds me of the Sega Game Gear.
- 4tygames, on 10/27/2007, -1/+19Does it receive analog or digital signals?
- sparkysko, on 10/27/2007, -1/+12Digital
- KingGoonie, on 10/26/2007, -0/+11I remember that, how everyone who had a gamegear said the gameboy sucked because it was in black & white, and game gear was color AND was able to get live TV. Whenever anyone had that around everyone would crowd around the kid trying to check it out. It was a hit in campouts... granted that only lasted a few months, but still as much as I thought gamegear (and atari lynx) sucked, I always thought the TV thing was so damn cool lol.
This is something I think I would get, depending on reception and stuff. You know what else I wanna see? The PSP GPS that I believe Japan already has. I would so get that depending on exactly how good it is and how it works. I mean does it pinpoint where you are like a car GPS and guide you from there, or is it just preprogrammed directions, so if you miss a turn well... you need to turn your ass around and find that turn instead of the PSP GPS seeing you missed the turn then giving you a brand new route. - evnglion, on 10/27/2007, -0/+8I dunno, maybe its just me, but the whole "TV on a handheld" was much cooler back in the days of the Sega Gamegear. Now it just seems like a lame gimmicky add-on. I mean seriously... in the days of digital cable and HDTVs who really wants to sit and watch NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox coming in really fuzzy? If I am "on the move" I'd much rather have an mp3 player and a Gameboy for GAMING... maybe even a Zune/video iPod if I must watch something on a 3 inch screen. Am I crazy?

- n8r0n, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6I have the PSP GPS. I picked it up while on a trip to Japan. There is a homebrew map/gps program that works really well with it, called "MapThis!". It works surprisingly well.
- lordspidey, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5sega was ahead of its time with most of its products
dreamcast is always my favorite example i still have one :) and play it from time to time - NSMike, on 10/27/2007, -0/+5No, you're not crazy. A video portable device is good for those long domestic flights on ill-equipped jets, but unless you're starved for live TV (and not flying JetBlue) you'll be fine with a ripped DVD or a torrent.
- BlueSkyfish, on 10/26/2007, -1/+6The whole point of this is to be portable.
- sparkysko, on 10/26/2007, -0/+5Digital 1seg signals
- zephc, on 10/26/2007, -0/+4I do believe the TurboExpress rocked the TV Tuner way before the GameGear.
- sparkysko, on 10/26/2007, -1/+4It doesn't support network TV. It uses 1seg
- KingGoonie, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3But what if you don't have homebrew? Lol.
Like I don't really need GPS for 300 bucks... but for $60 or something... hey why not.
Of course I don't carry a PSP with me all the time, so the times you really need it... when you get lost by having to take a detour or when you make a stop on way home from work and the way back to the highway is actual not really a way back at all... like those times you won't have it, because those are times you don't think you will need it beforehand. - Jeffler, on 10/26/2007, -2/+5Yes, but considering its Japanese TV, its probably all tentacle porn. /sarcasm
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -3/+6Rabbit ears, yay..
- sparkysko, on 10/27/2007, -0/+3Probably not, this does not pick up any digital signals in the US since the signals are being broadcast by a private japanese company.
- SDNick484, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3The TurboExpress with TurboVision is cooler...especially considering it came out in 1991. The only downside is the TurboExpress sucks down batteries embarrassingly fast.
- zlintux, on 10/27/2007, -1/+4You're right that it's incompatible, and that the US uses radio waves, but really... what do you think Japan uses if not radio waves?
- Kappa00, on 10/26/2007, -0/+3AWESOME!!!!!!!
- nfollmer, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2You know someone is going to find a way to get a freakin' slingbox or something to work with this. I have faith in you programmers!
- YuriSakazaki, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3Can I import one and use it in the U.S.? Or are the frequencies incompatible or something :
- sparkysko, on 10/27/2007, -1/+3The signal doesn't work if you're moving more than 12mph. While I drool over mobile TV, this isn't the answer.
- potterboy, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2JAPAN is 29.97, NTSC-J standard. for standard def.
- adam84a, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2Assuming you're speaking of the United States, there is no plan to discontinue broadcast television. The signal will just be a digital one, so if this thing is ATSC then it would work just fine for the foreseeable future.
- sparkysko, on 10/27/2007, -0/+2No, this is japan, not US. Different protocol used too.
- sparkysko, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Someone already did it. It's not a commercial product however.
- blahtastic, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Yeah, but if it can save your butt when you get lost you'll probably start bringing it along, as though it were a GPS. I'd probably keep it in my car at all times if it were a GPS (except for playing it).
So, n8r0n, does it tell you what turns to make or does it just do a google maps style thing? I'd consider hunting one down and softmodding the psp if it tells you where to turn... - Namakemono, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1The TV tuner is cute and all, but I'd rather have the ability to pick up streams from a slingbox or something like that.
- mumblingmynah, on 10/27/2007, -3/+4What they need is a video input adapter. Then I could play Wii on my DS.
- ryan850, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I had the sega game gear tv tuner but got it taken away in school while watching Matlock. I shouldn't have yelled out "Just answer his question!!!"
I had it back in time to watch March Madness during study hall. - lordspidey, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1when can i get an usb connector adapter for my ds or an SD card slot
- bprice25, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Circa 1970
- ElliotShoe, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1google it...
- YuriSakazaki, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1R4 > M3
- adammharvey, on 10/27/2007, -2/+3hah yeah thanks but no thanks ill still play my game gear over a nintendo handheld product
- DagMX, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I'm not an expert on this, but
1)The US uses a different broadcast method than the rest of the world
2)Even on the same frequencies, the US has this annoying tendency to use a different set of frequencies for transmission than the rest of the world. - abandonedhero, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Close.
http://www.*****.com/search.pl?query ... - inactive, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1get an m3 for your sd needs
- sparkysko, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1No, different protocol.
- suprememilo, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I had a game gear and always dreamed about the tuner, but good thing i never got one, because it will be useless after the analog to digital switch!
- themastersb, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Yeah. Gamegear was awesome with it's coloured screen and live tv. Too bad 6 AA batteries only lasted 2 hours.
- edwartica, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Interesting.
- abohling, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I still use my Game Gear with TV Tuner - it makes a great little battery powered TV for emergencies and such. As far as actually watching TV on it normally, it's pretty bad - over the air TV is becoming less and less available and it is mostly religious channels now.
- inactive, on 10/27/2007, -1/+1Look fanboy. PSP doesn't come with a TV tuner. And all it's features were done in software, which doesn't affect the price of the hardware. What you said was as retarded as claiming DS would've cost less if they didn't include pictochat
- unrealmp3, on 10/27/2007, -1/+1If the item get available, at least I hope there will be some decent providers and services to listen the TV on it. Anyway, I am more thinking of getting an homebrew devices to listen to videos and music. The Nintendo DS has some great games, but it has some great multimedia capabilities.
- BlueSkyfish, on 10/26/2007, -1/+1It's incompatible. The US uses some kind of radio wave signal.
- edicius, on 10/27/2007, -1/+1It should be a dual tuner so that you get two different channels for the dual screens.
