- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -13/+79I've been following this forever, I'll be happy when i can finally have wireless browsing on my DS. I'm not lucky enough to have a handheld touch sensitive PDA, so I'm excited about all of the touchscreen capabilities.
Looking at porn will be interactive at last!

(the screen you sicko) - kevin_qnn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47In Nintendo's E3 conference they announced that the Wii has an opera web browser as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44I need to sell my PSP to get the DS now.
- AquaPL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+39Mozilla Minimo neads 64 MB of RAM to run smoothly. Nintendo DS has 4 MB. Opera is truly a masterpiece...
- kevinrose, on 10/12/2007, -7/+45Great use of the two screens. One for zooming etc. Well done Opera.
- jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+37Finally I can have the freedom to digg stories from the can!

.... Being buried in a minute or less? Priceless. - mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Useful. No need to downgrade for Homebrewers too. TAKE THAT SONY!
- SpecialQ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29Yes you do.... good luck finding a buyer
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28"PSP already has a browser, doesn't it? Already included in the newest firmware updates."
but each upgrade breaks homebrew, so is a browser worth giving up your snes roms? - troth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24I would prefer that you had used spell check, but no one cares....
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20i thought the same thing after seeing the new mario bros trailers and the ds lite. holy crap. i cant believe i am going back to nintendo. this is going to be awesome.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Opera has a page dedicated to the DS, but there is no one in the forums yet and no screen shots:
http://my.opera.com/nintendods/ - TheMysteryCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Nintendo's ALREADY the dominant force in the hand-held market. A touchscreen based web browser is just icing on the cake.
- RatBagu, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23PSP already has a browser, doesn't it? Already included in the newest firmware updates.
But yeah, I'd love to browse the internet from my DS. - Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Looks really good, the dual screens will really help as you can have a zoomed in view like the first screen shot.
- pornel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13The funny thing is that Opera on DS will most likely be technically superior to IE7 on Vista :D
Desktop and mobile Operas use same engine, and Opera now passes Acid2 test (the "too advanced to support properly" web standards test), while Microsoft said they won't be even trying:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid2 - Jakub81, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15@heysuburbia
The sad true is Minimo (mobile version of Mozilla/Firefox) is much to bloated to run on DS. - tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10LMAO You firefox religious types make me laugh! "If it is not FF I do not want it!"
FF is not the best browser for all situations! It is not geared for imbedded systems, OR for portable systems!
Go elsewhere to thumb that FF bible! - jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Any word if this will be a separate cartridge thing, or something that gets built into the DS?
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11typing on a psp sucks ass. i hate it. the screen is amazing though.
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9its actually a cartridge with a memory module.
- CaptainEO, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Last I heard, this would be a cartridge add on. Probably the same price as a game, so around $30.
- jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10How do you type on a PSP?
I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I really don't know. Is it like every other console entering text, where you move the cursor over an on screen keyboard? - peanutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8There is no one at the forums because Opera on DS was announced in Feb this year, but has not been unveiled till today. http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2006/02/15/
I must say good progress is being made since it has been only 3-4 months since the deal was inked. - soft, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15PSP's built in browser is as bad as (and probably worse than) Pocket IE on the Pocket PC. It has really poor support for even the more standard CSS layout code. Opera's portable version is on a totally different planet and is a pleasure to use on the Pocket PC so am sure it'll be just as good on the DS.
- JohnKappa, on 10/25/2008, -0/+8This is what i want to see, an email client.
http://thekappafiles.blogspot.com/2005/09/nintendo-ds-email-client.html - briandadude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I hope this has stylus gestures.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Ouch! You might just be right about that though :=)
Opera has long been my favorite browser and seeing it come to the DS (as well as its expansion on mobile phones) really is awesome. - BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7If it isn't downloadable content, it's still worth shelling out some cash for a cartridge with the browser.
- peanutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From Opera's new online magazine Opera Bits http://www.opera.com/operabits/06/03/
Opera cannot reveal is plans with Nintendo just yet, though we can promise fun contests, cool Opera-Nintendo t-shirts and maybe a few other giveaways. As for the rest, you'll just have to wait until the June release of the Opera card for Nintendo DS in Japan.| - RexKwando, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11Running Opera on a DS is sweet.
Yes, PSP has a browser on it. It works quite nicely I may add. - moiety, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@soft: Pocket IE is horrendously worse than PSP's browser. And I've had no issues with CSS rendering under it; I've developed a number of dynamic sites that function as portals for PSP users. The CSS rendering is actually quite compatible with Mozilla's.
That having been said, I think Opera's offering will be far superior to the PSPs current solution. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Touching is good.
- AuLKenny, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Typing on a PSP is done using a input system identical to cell phones, where 3 letters are placed on each key. It is very quick and intuitive once you get used to it.
- JoeWall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6the dual screen is great for mee. great for typing too. i wonder if it is possible to use the DS like a pda. it has great battery, a touchscreen, great price, wifi, good processor, more features than other pdas. the problem was the memory but if it can connect to the intenret, files could be stored there.
does someone if this version of opera supports javascript or flash ? if yes, then it could be used for instant messenging (meebo), news, googlemaps, writing documents, spreadsheets (writely), music, video(youtube), radio... - Raybdbomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Might be cooler if they demo'd it on anything but opera.com ...
But I can't wait for this, very cool. - broken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7And how much is the PSP?
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5If it does support flash or java, you'll be able to play Nintendo games on your DS without a flash cart.
With E3 my head is a mess right now, too much data coming in....
I didn't get anything done at work today. - moiety, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@Jakub81: False.
- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I'll wait to see if Flash works. As soon as I get confirmation that Flash works, I'm getting it.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7^^ The problem is you have to upgrade your firmware to get a browser and that breaks homebrew and without homebrew there's no reason to own a PSP.
The only thing stopping me from selling my PSP is the PSX emulator. That could be worth upgrading my firmware for finally. - lasvegas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I have never used the mobile opera browser, but have used the desktop version, it has email client built in... does the mobile version have it too?
Having 2 screens and stylus will make browsing/email/blogging very easy on the DS... PSP pretty much sucks for browsing the web. - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It's been up and running since April 27th, and it's a pro Nintendo site, I don't think they would have a problem with it
- samdu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Sweet! It looks very much like the version that shipped with the Zaurus.
- bakagaigin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4http://files.nintendev.com/E3/ has a zip file with the original images in it, including a 300dpi version of the logo.
- 12340987, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6$32???? flash? gmail? gmaps? mp3? skype?
I thought it would be free. Bummer. And it would be nice to run opera from the firmware, or consolidate everything onto a gb flash card. - tacojohn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I can't wait for this! A cheap portable with good batter life and wireless connectivity! I can't wait to start using this for stuff like google calendar, maps, .mac mail, etc.
- Stoneleprecon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I doubt the ds will have flash capacities, im sorry to break your bubble but the ds is not a good device technologically speaking.
I hope it does though. - jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Heh, unintentional.
But I found something to fill my double post anyways :) -
