I disagree, she is addicting, but addicting in the same sense of watching a train wreck, but more like....a fancy train wreck - bpapa, on 10/12/2007, -6/+37In my mind, the DS is without a doubt the best gaming platform of at least the last year and a half now. Every month a slew of dope new games are released.
Hard to believe that exactly 2 years ago people figured that the PSP would destroy the DS. - berwiki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+33"I was at Best Buy for lunch on Friday"
Who goes to Best Buy for Lunch?? - JasonInOregon, on 10/12/2007, -8/+27Nintendo, Atari, XBOX and PS2/3 are just plain fun.
That said, I agree with everything but the Paris Hilton mention. She's not addicting - she's revolting.

- IHaveIssues, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14I dugg you up for admitting to jerking off to your game system.
Loser. - JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Haha. True. The Sony hype machine succeeded in making even hardcore Nintendo fans a little weary when they were choosing either a PSP or DS.
But honestly, the point where the PSP came out is when the DS started to shine. Before the PSP, the DS only got a new, good game every 2-3 months, it was unbearable. As an early DS adopter, I played Super Mario 64 DS and GBA games for months on end without a single new good game. Then the PSP rolled around and it's like a someone went and slapped all these developers in the face, and they all started pumping out great DS games. - JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11At least they're not ports.
*ba-dum pssssssssssh* - mrminer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I'm pretty sure the word is "addictive"
- DeepDoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My house has two DSes
My wife has one, I got it for her as an anniversary present. She loves it. She loves the stylus input and plays a lot of offbeat games on it. Stuff like Cooking Mama, WarioWare, and Mario vs DK. Its the first time she has really gotten into actual gaming. She has always like watching other people play games, but now she plays them herself. I found her a pink one so its more girly than geeky. I got my son an Onyx one for Christmas. He had an SP but he has terrible handwriting. After only a few weeks playing DS, his writing is very much improved. The little thing is amazing. I was really surprised by how much it can do in such a little package. Both of ours are DS Lites. My brother has the older version. It is not as cool, but still pretty neat.
Paris Hiltion: not as cool as a DS Lite. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"That's just an initial surge with the Wii though. There's no way it can keep those numbers steady like the GameBoy franchise has been doing since it's creation."
Probably not, but people are still buying them as quickly as Nintendo can drop them into stores. I was at Best Buy for lunch on Friday, and they got 9 Wiis, within 25 minutes, they were all gone.
I think from a price/performance standpoint, the Wii could easily hit 5 million in a few months. Maybe not because it's the best console on the market, but because it's the cheapest "next gen" system out there (I think it's the best system personally, but then, I'm a 34 year old man who loves playing Wii Sports and Excite Truck with my kids). - sockpuppets, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Everyone welcome Digg's newest troll Nicksawick. In addition to his Hitlerized avatar he enjoys bashing gays and being an all around douche bag.
Welcome, Nick. Welcome to my block list.

"Those gays should be shipped off to the Middle East and then we blow their ass up with those Flag-Burning Muslims." - quacker912, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Preach it like it is, Sony fanboy.
- foxyloxy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+74.73mill a year in the u.s? wowzer....
- hackattaq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6The DS is such hot item because the games are old school. Square releasing all those great RPGS from the 90's is probably a big reason why the DS Is rocking the charts.
- Miso117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Haris Pilton looks like some type of a rodent.
I am not a fan of her. If she was not a bizillionare she's be placed into the same group as all the other smelly girls you wouldnt go near in high school. You know it is true.
Anywho, DS Lite is cool.
However, I still can not find one anywhere.
It makes me angry. - mdnash, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10wii is approaching 5 mil worldwide in 2.5 months
- hammyhamhams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5hate to do this but your math sucks ;3
9 nintendo ds sold per minute * 60 minutes in an hour = 540 per hour
540 nintendo ds sold per hour * 24 hours in a day = 12960 per day
12960 nintendo ds sold per day * 365 days in a year = 4,730,400 per year - runeasgar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think the DS will help Wii sales, especially once they start having proprietary compatibility.
- Koushiro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Alright, I have to ask. Who the hell is Paris Hilton?
- staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8In america the PSP is trailing the DS by 3 million units. Not really that much of a thrashing. But I have had a choice and I choose the PSP. I recently knocked through loco roco, Valkyrie profile, lumines 2, acecombat, and killzone. MGS portable ops, and guitaroo man are the games that I have been playing the most right now. What really was shocking is that gitaroo man, despite many reports, is not a straight port. The music and moves are different and it is very noticble to anyone who's playe dthe original alot. Coming soon with the Puzzle Fighters, Metal slug anthology, and the new final fantasy games I know that I am going to be playing my PSP alot more often this year.
Anyone who claims to be "bored" with "their PSP" obviously haven't been looking for games to play on "their PSP". - sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm in the same situation. My Girlfriend isn't a "gamer". But after she played with my DS-Lite, she bought one the next day. We occasionally play multi player, but mostly solo. Although the Wii gets more play time right now. Either is fine, because they can involve both of us, not just me playing on the XBox.
- trubbleshute, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@pdiddle
You are correct.I had the hardest time finding one for my woman for Christmas. I eventually had to call WalMart and I got the second to last one.
Right now I'm enjoying Final Fantasy 3. IGN gave it a 7.8 or 7. Anyways, the DS is cranking out RPGs (FF3, Children of Mana, et cetera). I think the we'll see 50 million DS sold by the end of 2007. - Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5My kids both have a DS. It's nice and all, but it makes my hands cramp up after half an hour or so, but then, I have really big hands, so maybe it's just me.
I have a PSP for myself, and it's even worse for cramping up my hands. I think there's gotta be a better way ergonomically to create a handheld than just making them as small as humanly possible and expecting people to use them for any amount of time. - sacherjj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I did, until I got my Wii. Actually found it at Target during lunch, though.
- Mr.Chainsaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Alright. I admit it. I have a ps3. And a ps2. And a PSP. Sonys blood runs through me, but this ass hat makes me want to smash mine and get a Halo 3 tatoo of master cheif while ordering a 360 and gears.
God dude. You are the reason there are so many xbox fans.
Edit: I prefer my ds over my psp. - mthanded, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was a volunteer at the first lego league competition for midlle schoolers in maryland. It was amazing like 1/2 or more of the kids there had a DS i their possession most of the others had gba. I own a psp and a ds but the psp is only good for running homebrew and ps1 games
- TheTjalian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Haha, your girlfriend prefers Solo play.
Sorry, couldn't resist :P - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yeah that's great and all....
BUT HURRY UP WITH THE DAMN OPERA DS BROWSER ALREADY!!!!!!! - JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6That's just an initial surge with the Wii though. There's no way it can keep those numbers steady like the GameBoy franchise has been doing since it's creation.
And at $130 a pop, it's hard to see why the DS doesn't sell even more than it does. Every gamer should have one. - storminnorman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3we bought my 4 year old daughter one for Christmas this past year, along with "Barbie and the 12 Dancing princess". She beat the game in about a month. She also has Mario Kart and loves that as well. My wife now wants one so they can play against each other! which is cool, now I know what to get her for an anniversary present!
- profOblivion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-DS-Lite-Onyx-Black/dp/B000I10PY2/ref=pd_ts_c_th_1/105-9827492-5981235
The price is a goddam rip-off, but it's available at least. - RiverBelow, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Ever played Metroid Prime Hunters? One hand on the L button & D-Pad but the other hand controller the touch screen using the stylus. Awesome, but the most uncomfortable thing I've ever done, and I've had sex with a goat in Antarctica.
- Butros, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah I'm a little sick of a new Hotel Dusk game every year. Nintendo really needs to innovate.
- logomancer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Wasn't Japan also in the midst of a DS craze? IIRC, they were selling more DSes in Japan than any other console during Xmastime.
- Optimistic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It might be how you hold it. I have rather large hands myself and can play for quite some time without problems---even on a Micro.
Try moving your wrists further away from the DS, like a 45 degree angles instead of manhandling it with your palms touching the sides; works for me. - ethicalhacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And they still won't sell us the DS Browser. What gives?
- jamesong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3there are 60 seconds in a minute, 60 minutes in an hour, 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and 52 weeks in a year
do the math right this time
*edit* ty, hammyhamhams - Miso117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@profOblivion I'm not paying an arm and a leg to have one now... My luck they will be everywhere the following day for $129.00 Thanks though. I have a refresh up on www.nowinstock.net its rad if you never heard of it before...
- sscaff1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm so glad I got this system. I mean I was kinda iffy at first when I bought it almost 2 years ago but with the number of quality games...the DS is insane. Worth every penny.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Got one for my kids... they're totally obsessed with it now.
They have a long bus ride to school, and they wirelessly network with the DS's of other kids on the bus. Nintendo really thought ahead on the design... only one cartridge is required for P2P gaming, not two.
Like the Wii, the graphics power is nothing to marvel at by today's standards. But, Nintendo realizes that there's a LOT more to gaming than just the polygon count, and they get just about everything else right with their systems. - psycx, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Yes, but remember that "America" is the only country worth mentioning.
- pauleku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have one and love it. Have a psp as well. Play both of them 10x more than any console i have.
- omatsei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have a PS2, and a PS3... And a PSP. I'll be damned if I can remember the last time I played anything on the PSP. It might have been back in September when Loco Roco came out. I know there's been a whopping 4-5 games worth the $40 asking price... However, I also have an Xbox and a 360. I play the 360 all the time (recently I've been playing the Crackdown demo). I also have a Wii and DS. I played through Zelda, but haven't really done anything with the Wii since then. I'm in the middle of Final Fantasy III and Castlevania: PoR.
So, I'm not a fanboy, but the PSP has been a horrible disappointment. It's too expensive, long loading times on most games, and nothing worth playing. I bought 3 games when I got the system, and I haven't purchased a single one since. That's very telling... - ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2congrats on finding that mistake. although i think the 'lol' was a bit much, if not completely on the lame side.
- PFS1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4> And at $130 a pop, it's hard to see why the DS doesn't sell even more than it does. Every gamer should have one.
Could say the same thing about the Wii for $250. It offers something completely different from what one is used to, is great fun, and is much cheaper than it's competitors.
I don't think the massive Wii sales can be dismissed as the "initial surge." If anything they will pick up, as the DS's have. The only difference is that the DS got off to a bit of rocky start, where as the Wii has been quite popular from day one. - bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It took me months to find a DS. I was looking for one all through december and half of January. I finally found one (of nine) at a compusa. Comp seems to go unnoticed for a while- the same one even had a ton of Wiimotes last time I was there.
- Sethbacca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tons of DS always available up here in Maine :)
Wii are selling out like crazy though, still havent seen one in the stores, although I've camped a few lines for myself and some friends and have had 3 pass through my hands. - joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm trying to get a 2nd one for my wife (a pink DS Lite), but can't find any except on eBay (especially in Pink)
- enforcerpsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I got one myself. Play it almost as much as my console systems....and trust me, thats a lot.
