- Zero2aHero, on 10/12/2007, -12/+49I would hardly call this upping xbla because all they are doing is uploading a rom with a drm on it. Every game that gets released for xbla gets additions... online multiplayer, updated graphics, or whatever else it may be.
Good to see that their pricing structure is bendable though... DK Jr. an SNES game selling for $5 rather than $8. - MStiles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+31Where does the article say anything about "four every Monday?" As far as I can tell, the only announcement is that there will be 4 this coming Monday. Specifically:
"Every Monday starting Dec. 4, Nintendo will add classic games to the popular new Wii™ video game console's Wii Shop Channel. Four games will be added at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Dec. 4."
It only says titles will be released every Monday, and this Monday it'll be four. - achoo5000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29I agree, online play is all i ask.
also, there is an update, DKJr is in fact a NES game, it was mislabeled. - ForlornHope, on 10/12/2007, -3/+28A digger who clicked and read the link. It's unnatural. BURN THE WITCH!!!
- Stonedonkey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19You can expect that kind of breathless inaccuracy from a fanboy. Notice that the story and the Digg submission were written by the same guy, and ALL of his submissions come this site as well.

Inaccurate, *and* spam.
Buried. - SineNomen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Perhaps, but somehow, it's still way more fun to have pop in the cartidge, wait a minute, take out, blow in it, and repeat until it finally works.
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16"There's still nothing like playing the original cartridges"
I disagree. Yeah, there's the "hey, cool, I'm playing a retro video game console" factor. But the only real, quantifiable difference is the fact that you're using a different controller. - ZenMojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Inaccurate. It's 4 games this Monday, 1-4 games every Monday following according to Fils-Aime. That's an average of 2 games, not 4.
- panzerfinder15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9THIS Title IS INACCURATE!!!!!
Reggie said that there will be 1-4 virtual console games launched every monday, meaning that some mondays will match Xbox live's 1 per Wednesday. I can't find the article to back up this claim, but nowhere does it say that Nintendo will release 4 per monday. - aahpandasrun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The Japanese virtual console has Street Fighter 2, Super Mario World, A Link To The Past, ect.
And we get Dk Junior and crappy racing game? Ugh. - chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11nintendo has priced me out of their virtual console. it's unfortunate, i would have been willing to buy a ton of games, but at these prices i'm buying nothing instead.
- istrikelast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7the retro controllers ARE available. I actually have on next to me this very second. Got it at Target a couple of days ago. $19.99 + tax.
Although... they're as difficult to find as the Wii remotes. Good luck with that. - IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7@jeet404, 480p is not HD, it is Enhanced Definition, aka progressive scan.
- Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4On the NES and Turbo Grafx 16 games, they're decently priced ($5 and $6 respectively), but I would have preferred if they had the price a bit lower. $4 for NES, $6 for SNES and Genesis, and $9 for N64. I'll probably snag some, but right now with the prices and the lack of decent games, I'm not buying.
- JewishPower, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"I disagree. Yeah, there's the 'hey, cool, I'm playing a retro video game console' factor. But the only real, quantifiable difference is the fact that you're using a different controller."
Not necessarily!
http://www.retrousb.com/wii.html - andydumi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I think he meant retro as in original NES or SNES, not the classic controller.
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I'd like to say good for you, but really you probably just download ROMs and feel justified because you think entertainment wants to be free.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Actually, that's not the only difference. Sound emulation has always been a problem with Genesis emulators, and it's no different with the Wii. There are noticeable gaps in the sound in Sonic; parts of the music cuts out when other sound effects layer over top of them, and the stereo ring-grab sounds only work in one channel. The original console didn't have these problems.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If the Wii is 5 year old hardware why hasn't Sony or MS implemented proper motion sensing onto their systems? Aren't they supposed to be "next-gen"?
- zhulien, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3omg, they cost more for a 'copy' of the game than an actual cartridge!
- anamanaman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3This is blatant fanboy exploition. There should be a word for this. Fansploiting. Yes, that's what we'll call it.
- TheSevenDuffs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I believe they've stated 10 per month
- jeet404, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5gamabunta true XBL has DRM but they change the game a bit. Not in all cases is that a good thing but they try to add a bit more to graphics make it support the resolution your TV is set on. This way it doesn't look like crap when your playing it on HD by that I mean 720P or higher. I know 480P is HD but their isn't that much of a difference in resolution that you will notice it all that much.
- tendonut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am still wondering how long Nintendo will try to make their server overload issues sound like user issues...They claim if you get the server timeout errors, it is a problem with your wireless network..*****! I have 3 other wireless devices on my network and nothing has ever given me a problem. All my friends have the same problem, even the ones that go wired (so it's not the Wii itself)
- TimDub, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3you just put down $250 for the Wii (and maybe $50 more for a Wii game) but can't part with five more bones to get LoZ or SMB?
- IMustBeEmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@jeet404, 480p is not HD, it is Enhanced Definition, aka progressive scan.
Aww crap this was supposed to be a reply! - illt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what i dont' understand (other than online play)is why link to the past isn't on the wii shop. i was planning on it being the first thing i played on my wii...but i was sorely mistaken. (along with pilotwings. i could have sworn seeing it being on some sort of wii shop list)
- aywwts4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The main difference is, other than the cartridge breaking on you, you Own the game forever, on the wii, you own it until you sell your wii, Then goodbye games.
So when the black wii comes out and someone wants to upgrade, They just wasted a lot of money. - gsga22, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0Hmmm.... I want a wii, more than I want http://monstersportsmagnets.com
- heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I would imagine Nintendo wouldn't have too much of an issue getting the specs for the systems they're emulating.
- Hellmark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Progressive scan is something that can be had at any resolution. Progressive scan!=480 resolution.
- miketuck3r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So let me get this straight people money to get just the original version of games, lol they must be hit with the stupid stick
Xbox Live Arcade gets enhanced versions of games (usually adding multiplayer online etc), there are also 100+ independent developers making original ip games for the live arcade
you just cant compare an emulator to a full digital games service that takes advantage of the hardware (in the case the new ip titles)
There are actually quite a few title ready for release but there are no slots for release until next year (according to the guys who developed sensible soccer for XBLA their game is ready but needs a release slot) - kauko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"So let me get this straight people money to get just the original version of games, lol they must be hit with the stupid stick

I think many people who are interested in the old games want to play the original, pixel perfect emulated versions of the old games instead of remakes.
"you just cant compare an emulator to a full digital games service that takes advantage of the hardware (in the case the new ip titles)"
True - you cannot compare them and in my opinion you really shouldn't.
I don't know if Nintendo plans to release new downloadable stuff, but in XBox 360's case I don't see any reason why downloadable new IP and downloadable, pixel perfect emulated stuff couldn't co-exist.
Anyway, I do think that Nintendo's pricing for old titles is bit of a rip-off.
For example, you can get a Sega Genesis/Megadrive Collection (three Phantasy Stars, first two original Sonics, Golden Axe, Alex Kidd, Eccos and a couple of dozen other titles) for PS2 for something like $20. - greenmky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The genesis emulation may be flawed, but IMO it's better than a real Genesis over composite video for those of us with big screens. SNES outputs s-video which looks decent on a big HD screen, but composite looks awful. In particular I've had trouble with a proper composite output from the Genesis with both my last 480p DLP projector and my newest 720p projector. I went through an original Genesis and a JVC X'eye and both proved to output a messy/flaky signal to the projectors. Plus composite video looks awful. The Genesis was the only oldschool systems I had trouble with getting a good video signal out of. and the X'eye had the same problems.
- ninjan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hope that Nintendo realizes that the licensing + release of golden eye is worth it
- MillenniumX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0After seeing "enhanced" Star Wars, "enhanced" , and the Halo sequels (which, let's not kid ourselves, are just "enhanced" remakes of Halo, which is itself just an "enhanced" remake of every FPS that came before it), frankly I'm no longer interested in "enhanced" games. Give me the originals. "Enhancement" is a gimmick.
And no, I don't pay twice for games I already own. I actually -gasp- keep my older consoles around for that. I only use the Wii Shop to get titles I didn't already own. - Nistavar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4That settles it, Im getting a Wii.
- Arksimon2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Damn straight! :O
- kauko, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0(ignore)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2these are not 'old school,' they are not 'retro either'
they're simply old, and good. - Bungo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Cool, now if only I could get online to download them...
- jayfish, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1@mvent2
How much motion sensing ya doing with your copy of Super Mario Brothers?
Jay - jayfish, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2P. T. Barnum was right.
5-year old hardware? ...check!
20-year old games? ...roger!
All your money? ...absolutely!
The big N is laughing all the way to the bank.
Jay - bigtrouble77, on 10/12/2007, -12/+5I love the Wii, but I think the virtual console is a rip. The only thing that can make me interested in any of the virtual console games is when the retro controllers become available. Until then I'll use my xbox to play the 35,000 games I have.
Does anyone know if Nintendo is using OSS code to power the virtual console as there are a few perfect emulaters for each of the platforms that Nintendo is supporting. - interrogate, on 10/12/2007, -13/+6" SineNomen
Perhaps, but somehow, it's still way more fun to have pop in the cartidge, wait a minute, take out, blow in it, and repeat until it finally works. "
No, it isn't. - pbjworld, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0Upgrades are great, but I wish they would upgrade once every 6 months to 1year. Upgrades are killing parents' pockets. They pretty much have all the upgrades on file and are slowly releasing them to make more money of course. Home and Garden website is offfering wholesale prices to the public. They only charge $7.50 for shipping regardless of how much you buy. Did my Christmas shopping for less then $300.00. You should check it out. Go to : www.bayonacity.com
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -16/+7There's still nothing like playing the original cartridges...even if it does cost an arm and a leg to buy some of them :p
- wheeliedude, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1I would have to agree that releasing the heavy hitters early is not a good strategy at all.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -17/+5@ Zero2aHero
You say that as if Microsoft isn't uploading ROMs with DRM embedded themselves!
