- lukychmz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+66I aint paying for old issues of this crap. It has to be free
- Flynnz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+51Free = amazing move by Nintendo
Fee based = One of the worst ideas ever - xXShadowstormXx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Interesting comment from a commentator:
Again, Nintendo needs to stop with pointless channels and focus on getting online gaming going. To have a new console in this day and age and not have online gaming from the get go is just moronic.
I agree...
I hate friend codes. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I'd like to see "System Channels," that is, a channel for the SNES, NES, etc. rather than individual VC games having their own channels. I don't look forward to scrolling through 4 pages of little boxes trying to find Super Mario Bros. 3, or any other game, for that matter, especially when I could just click on "NES Channel," and then scroll down - alphabetically - to the game I want.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Sweet. Keep the new channels comming
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I can't say enough how much I hate the friend codes system! I would kill (well, maybe not kill) for an online system like Xbox live on the Wii. But I know that will never happen.
Come on Nintendo! At least can you provide us with some of the basics? And please, gradually get rid of the friend code system. No one is going to get abducted via Wii online. I want to play with some people I don't know! ugh....
Sorry for ranting. :) I hope you guys feel the same. - seanthebond, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12This would also be good advertisements for the Virtual Console games. If somebody is going through the old Nintendo Power and sees a cool NES game, they may want to get it for the VC. I know it would probably work for me, considering I missed the NES era.
- coheedcollapse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I can say I personally wouldn't ever use the service if it were a pay-per-article or issue system. Free - maybe a bit - but I'd rather have something more interactive for the next channel. Like possibly an IM channel or just more functionality in the rest of the channels.
- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13How about online play Reggie
- laterthandawn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Sweet! Nostalgia is: full layouts of side-scrolling NES levels.
- Jwoey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I didnt even pay for old Nintendo Power magazines, I'd just open them up to "Classified Information" write down the codes i wanted and go home.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8If it was a one-time, say, 1200 point purchase for every issue ever, just like buying a game, then they could pull it off.
- AhrenBa, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Agreed. No way that I would pay for old issues.
However, the fact of receiving all these content free is intriguing. Well, anything that is free is intriguing. :) - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's old stuff, I can't see how they'd get away with charging people for it...Especially seeing how it's pretty much an ad for their company...
Is no one else concerned on how the controls would work? - Huitz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8getting off the bus -
"Hey Billy, Jared got a wii yesterday, We wanna get on and play (Insert some as of yet unreleased online game) tonight."
"Thats awesomee, Whats his friend code?"
"aww, dood.. Hold on.. I wrote It down.. its.. err... in my backup.."
"Dood Im getting of the bus, hurry the hell up"
"ah, here it is, its 3296455679791"
"Sweet... I'll remember that.. no problem..."
"err, right.. I'll send a wii-mail of his code to you and your code to him"
"Ok, talk to you later"
AND THIS IS WHY FRIEND CODES SUCK - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8They already have Mario Drives...it's called Mario Kart...
you're an idiot - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7It's better than certain other franchises which all look and feel identical, and are up to their THIRTEENTH installment without any major innovations. Not counting spinoffs, of course.
hiiii square enix!!! - APHughes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Sweet, I can see new SNES games coming soon
- psmonteiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3They could integrate the nintendo power channel and the virtual console, so you could check out all the reviews from nintendo power of the games you're planning on buying.
- NikoKun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How about, if your already subscribed to Nintendo Power, you can get special news and updates only found on this special Wii Channel for free. That way no one would be paying double for Nintendo Power stuff...
Since you can tie your Wii to your MyNintendo account, I think it wouldn't be very hard at all for them to know who subscribes and who doesn't... heck I manage my subscription online, so I know the Wii could use any of that data... They already do that for VC games.
I could see them doing this, just to promote Nintendo Power. Hell I have years of subscriptions still coming... I'll probably always be getting those in the mail. But I think it would be even better to get exclusive info on my Wii along with that! Its a great way to reward fans, by giving them exclusive info. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Knowing Reggie they will sell them by volume at a price
- NightStryke, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The online gaming issue is more political than technological. The wii could handle regular online gaming just fine, but the management decided that using friend codes was the way to handle things. I would hope that the proponents of the friend codes give a little and agree to make it optional.
- phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@dclowd9901: I just rearrange them in the channels menu by how frequently I play them. Here's a hint: Grab a channel with A+B.
- BuddyDoQ, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Friend codes are neat. It's like a private server, where only your friends and fellow internet forum junkies can meet up and stomp around in Mario. No 12 year old punks you don't know constantly cursing the lag/map/crappyteam/ in a high octave little piggy squeal.
Sure for 32 on 32 battle royals, the friend code is no longer practical, but for the type of games Nintendo is pushing for these days, I think it works rather well. Nintendo seems to want to fill a different kind of net-play void, a warmer more personal kind, simulating the living room experience long-distance, as it were. - NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What controls? You put your hand icon over the right-hand page, hold down A and B, and move to the left, and you turn the page. Simple.
- imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5They've got Mario Dances. It's called DDR Mario Mix.
Technically, Mario Sleeps is Super Mario Brothers 2.
I could be mistaken, but I'd call Super Mario All Stars a Mario's Mario Adventures Collection.
You're an idiot. Please go away and leave us alone. - thenikola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Probably what they will do is when you buy a game they will give you scans of all of the cover art, booklets and all of the Nintendo power articles. That's just my opinion tho any thoughts?
- N2O1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This would be a great idea if it was free or cheap, something like $2 for a year of issues or something. Personally, I've been a subscriber since #155, but I've missed about a half-dozen issues in there.
- D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'd love to play you guys, my friend code is: 47650347896534561394765 ........See how dumb that is? How is anyone ever going to remember that?
(that is obviously not my Friend code, I just randomly hit buttons to prove a point...I'm sure it's not even the right number of #s) - slickrate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wii Vote and Old issues of a magazine? Is this them giving us what we didn't know we wanted or them putting out features you'll check out for less than 5 minutes?
- Cink420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool idea but I don't think I'd pay very much for it. But keep the channels coming the more options the better
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd totally dig into this stuff if it was free, but I can't see paying for it, unless it was a flat fee or like $10 or something, some subscription thing to electronic back issues would be crappy tho.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have every issue of Nintendo Power and it's actually quite fun to flip through the old magazines. However, I think there's something to be said about the tactile experience of having the magazine in hand. I think it's interesting to consider if the remote be able to capture this experience.
But there's a whole generation of people who don't remember when photos of real people dressed up as characters were used on the cover of NP and I think it's a worthwhile endeavor. Let's see some Howard and Nester, interviews with Kirk Cameron, and a Players Pulse that only featured one console. - PacoDG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thinking of how Halo 2 handled matchmaking. If Nintendo were to do something similar. You wouldn't have to remember a bunch of friend codes, you'd be in a lobby and just add the people you wanted to keep playing with after the round of whatever game is over. In your address book, you could just add whatever handle/nickname for that person you liked.
I too, feel friend codes was a completely retarded move, however, its not the end of the world as people make it out to be. - phort99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hooray, ***** undeletable comments! Wrong place.
- NSMike, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Eh... The friend code system is broken, but not as broken as some make it out to be. It slows the spread of friend codes because of how difficult is is to remember, but honestly, if someone tells me a new gamertag, I'm writing that sucker down. The major difference is that no one will remember a friend code, while people who play with others a lot online will remember the gamertags of those they play with frequently. Ultimately, if you really want someone to know your friend code, you'll figure out a way to keep it close at hand.
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just because they use the same characters doesn't mean it's the same game.
Mario tennis and Super Mario Sunshine are completely different games. Nintendo does come up with some really creative ideas, they just use the same characters to show its a Nintendo developed game. - blurky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Presently, I find the nintendo servers to be slow and unreliable. I wouldn't be happy paying for this until they did some serious work on their architechture, especially knowing that they make a profit off every wii and ds sold.
- masskurec, on 03/03/2009, -0/+0wii is for kids
http://xptweak.net - DelSolMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How about a wii library so that they can put up old Nintendo comic books too.
- crossers, on 07/18/2008, -0/+0it's sweet! full layouts of side-scrolling NES levels. grate yes?
http://www.leannrimes.info
http://www.shpe-sac.org
http://www.pmidsig.org - ssh34, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0You are totally right like xbox live you can chat on im and download games so you can find one that you are instered in insted on buying on for $50 and it is the gayest game ever. Also i think the should make a Demo channel.
- Jules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Its a bit of wishful thinking that its going to be free. How many free VC games were given out?
- schurkenstadt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@dclowd: thats exactly what you have in the wii shop channel ...
- mywhitenoise, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Buddy, don't be ***** stupid. Friend codes are *****.
Like a game can't handle a server based on your friends (people you know) based on just a regular screen name, rather than a lame ass, game specific 12 digit code? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Oh no, Mario Kart is a racing game, Mario DRIVES would be a driving game
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1Oh no you see Nintendo loves to remake every game they've ever made, Mario Sleeps would just be a screen with Mario sleeping, Mario Dances would just be Mario Dancing to nothing and Mario's Mario Adventures Collection would just be mini-game versions of everything i listed
See you have to think like Nintendo, gawd they are soo creative I love it T_T - redlemon, on 10/12/2007, -10/+1sweet, i can turn the pages with my wiimote!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -18/+2Is this a excuse from Nintendo because they arnt putting new and original games out on the console?
Mmmm gotta love those pointless minigame collections, or how about all those great remakes!! I'd love to see Mario takes a *****, Mario dances, Mario does math, Mario eats, Mario Sleeps, Mario Drives, Mario Runs, Mario Dances IN SPACE, Mario Sleeps 2!, Mario bleeds, Mario's Mario Adventures Collection
Ah, gotta love the creativity from Nintendo
