- mrASSMAN, on 10/11/2007, -0/+34Well the PS2 still sells well, so they're continually updating it still.
- DarkTranquility, on 10/11/2007, -9/+39How bout PS3 for ***** sake?
- OlnyGuy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+29And the PS2 slim was what? I would probably have to keep my widow closed so the wind doesn't blow this "lightweight" one away.
- thejadedmonkey, on 10/11/2007, -15/+38Wow... the PS3 must not be selling at all if they're still working on the PS2! =-O
- DAVIDPOWERZ, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22"The Mini PS2 Lighweight Slim!!!"
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16Slot loading drives are more prone to breaking. The flip lid is nice because I don't have to hear the drive start to grind after four or five years.
- airwalkery2k, on 10/11/2007, -1/+17Yeah. I was expecting pictures, or more details. I wasn't expecting a forum post that listed no more than what is written in the article description. The source they list isn't very helpful either.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/11/2007, -3/+17Unless you carry it around in a backpack or something I fail to see how this is really significant. I mean, the thing sits on a shelf. Is it getting any smaller? Does it play games better? A weight difference in a home console doesn't make as much difference to me as a size reduction in both handhelds and home systems.
- PhoenixAvatar2, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16From the first post: "* New model number(SCPH-79000) PS2 will be released. More reduction of weight of body and AC adapter.
(model change starts this week)"
Buried you as inaccurate. RTFA. - raiderj, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13The cooling on current slimlines could be improved. However, I'd love to see a slot loading drive instead of a flip-lid. The current size is pretty darned small as-is!
- evozero, on 10/11/2007, -4/+15if we are going to get playstation news from vgchartz lets start getting our ps3 news from halo forums.
can you really take a website seriously where the "highest ranked games" start with 11 nintendo games, not to mention Zelda: Majora's Mask for N64 is apparently a better than Gears? - oojamaflip2006, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I'll buy a PS3 when they drop the price, its as simple as that
- qwerty1024, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12meh
- dRuNk3nIrIsHmEn, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Hello? That was a joke you morons don't digg him down.
"Next thing you know they will be updating the xbox360 with cooler running parts and more colors, and don't get me started if they start making a smaller Nintendo DS...."
Xbox 360 Elite and Nintendo DS Lite.
He obviously thought the average digger could figure out a joke by themselves. - totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9The irony is it will probably outsell the PS3 and Xbox360 in Japan on release.
- SilverSpoon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7It'd be nice if I could see the damn thing...
- SilverSpoon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8It'd be nice if this damn comment system would work....
- Cyber_Akuma, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Ummmmm.... is this a joke?
Its a message board post on a forum at vgcarts and he has no source except for two minor things at the end of the post.
This couldn't possibly be any less credible. - SilverSpoon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It'd be nice if I could actually see the damn thing...
- mweflen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5why is a ***** forum page on the front page? LAME.
- hartley, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4they must really want ben heckendorn to do a portable PS2.
- Elranzer, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6It's actually the PS4. Graphics no more powerful than the PS2, but is smaller, white, plays DVD-sized discs, has revolutionary motion sensor controls and you can put yourself in the game with "Yuu" avatars.
- DustSluggy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6The PS2 Anorexic?
- kinadian, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Why does continued work on PS2 mean that the PS3 isn't selling well? Do you think it's not at all possible for a company like Sony to be working 2 consoles at the same time? Even after the PS3 was released Sony has said they are still committed to the PS2 (and rightfully so with 100million+ user base). So I don't see this as the doom of the PS3 as you seem to be suggesting.
If Sony came out and announced the PS4 then I'd be worried about the PS3 but since this is still the PS2 I think it's just Sony trying to extend the PS2's lifetime in Japan as much as possible. - CrazedGeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I think it looks exactly the same, it just weighs a bit less.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+7Learn to read satx
- KnightMareInc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3you're not your.
p.s you're a moron - cpirate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Thank you. I figured if I said "early adopter" about a 7 year old piece of hardware people would get the joke.
- rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2damn pic?...
- SteveMax, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Actually, the final Game Boy version was the micro, which was released around the same time as the DS. The line is now considered "dead", with all further development going to the DS.
- daridave, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2...and give me a game I don't want on the 360 instead. (MGS4, yeah yeah, can't wait, but that ain't today or tomorrow.)
- PickledJesus, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I get your point, but that was a bad example. On gamerankings (where they get the average score) Gears got 93.8% and Majora's Mask got 92.5%, not much difference at all. Personally I think Gears is boring and too short (having played co-op with a friend) and the multiplayer doesn't stand out above other games. Zelda had a lot more depth with all the masks and was generally more fun, but that's my opinion, like it was the voter's opinions on VG Chartz. Call me a fanboy if you will.
- somesthetic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2happy July fools day?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Thank god, my first gen PS2 was about to break the shelf it was sitting on.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2lame
- distrbnce, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3It makes a difference because they can lower the cost of already the most successful console in history.
Release a waggle wand with eyetoy and a bunch of mindless minigames and... it's the Wii everyone already owns. - rippin1700, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Regardless of the source and "if" there are going to be any revisions to the PS2, it still owns the game market in total sales and duration. I would be very surprised to see another console outsell the PS2 in it's lifetime. Sony knows they bit off more than they can chew with the PS3 and is relying on the PS2 to save it's ass. As long as there are high sales and great demand for it, I don't see it disappearing anytime soon. If they don't get their ***** together with the PS3 then I see it going the way of some of their previous abominations: Beta, minidisc, etc.
I hope they don't make the damned thing any smaller, if any of the apparent rumors do come to fruition. Just improve the cooling and let it be. - jm1234567890, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2isn't a psp lighter? :P
- Ajajadude, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Not really, they're probably stripping parts to make production costs even less
- TridenTBoy, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5http://duggmirror.com/gaming_news/New_lightweight_PS2_launched_in_Japan/
- rhfb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Since my PS2Phat is almost dead, I would probally pick this new revision up instead of the Slim. Here is hoping for a 75$ PS2?
- themastersb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So where's the pics or anything. I dont see any information besides 2 little posts at the bottom
- fxspec06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1... SO THAT'S WHAT WAGGLE MEANS!!
- gwolf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Take it easy, it's just a hobby.
Dont' invest your emotions in a machine.
"Bicentennial man" - iashraf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That's been out here (in the UK) for a LONG time.
- Sababaaa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1lol.. seriously, I want to see how much smaller the AC adapter gets!
Also, I think this is the first article/headline I've ever seen that is entirely contained in its description
..making this the only case where it is acceptable to 'digg' a story without clicking through, imo
Although there was another nice little tidbit in there:
Ace Combat 6 - 11/1...Hopefully we'll get it the same day! (probably not) - Utils, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2This is trash. I buries it.
- Aitese, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Not so awesome...seems like it would have made a whole lot more sense to make the next PSP have TV out and the option to connect PS3 wireless controllers. You could finish off a game you had started on a journey at home in comfort, unplug and continue play elsewhere.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+7Its been 7 years and you don't expect them to revise the hardware to make it cheaper to produce? Are you spastic?
