- caryw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+67Unfortunately this is a fake. The video was obviously shot with an emulator and the most popular N64 emulator (Project 64) just so happens to have a cheat built in allowing you to play as master hand.
Screen shots of the cheat in project 64:
http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/random/digg-youtube-SSB64-master-hand-hack-fake.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Props to nintendo for not leaking the secret themselves. Wish I knew this 1 back in the day.
- CyberGlitch, on 10/12/2007, -6/+39Incredible...so simple yet such a big result. I'm amazed that this hasn't been found earlier.
- Freshjive787, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35whaaaaaaaaaaat? who finds this *****.
- shtonkalot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+27Check this site, http://www.n-philes.com/features.php?id=174
SSB Melee has even more secret secrets.
I'd love to see some confirmation that this n64 hack works though. I can't do it here. - HitlerEatsKids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25If you look at all the people who commented saying they got it to work (on youtube) the three people are the only three people who have commented on the same users other video. Chances are they know each other and wanted to pull a lil prank, and I think it worked. Now I'm sad, this would have been fun to play around with.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29some1 who rotates their analog stick 30 times before selecting a character. Prolly discovered by accident by some1 who was trying to be annoying.
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21forgive me, but how does a flashing window in the bottom right corner of the screen make it fake?
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19He says right in the description that the flashing window is there because he's recording the game with Fraps.
- Opelious, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15Does anyone else not notice the flickering window behind the gameplay? This is definitly an emulator. Weither or not cheats were used is a different story.
- matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13That's nothing! We'll be able to play as the Pope on the Wii!
- Paroparo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10So... how many of you guys immediately check if this could be done with SSBM too? I sure as heck did. =P
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Master Hand, P1, VS Mode: 800A4D2B 000C
IIRC, there was an issue with this in which the game would freeze if the player using Master Hand reached 0HP... which would explain why the video is seemingly cut short.
$20 to anyone that can prove that this can be/was done without the aid of a GameShark (or similar device). Any takers? - HitlerEatsKids, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7same here, hopefully we just suck though
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I tried reproducing this as well, and I have one of the first carts produced. I can't repro it.
- dSlifer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Buried it... Project 64 has a Master Hand cheat
- walugi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I can't believe people dugg this. It's a gameshark code that's been around for ages. Hence the dark shadowing and flashing window...
- PuyoDead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Ok, seriously guys, read.
He says, specifically, that he is using FRAPS. Look it up, it's a program for recording what is currently on the screen. THAT is the flashing window. It's usually used for recording first person shooters so people can brag about their skills.
Next, it's definitely an emulator. Most likely Project 64. It has that specific cheat built in. Just go under System > Cheats... > then VS. Mode > Player 1 > Character Modifier, then double click that code, and scroll down to $0C Master Hand, and check it. There ya go. I even tried it myself. He simply enabled the cheat early on, then made this video of the "method" to unlock Master Hand. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8so all these people that commented on youtube must be lying.....
this is real. not sure if it works on pal version of the game. as i could not get it to work :( - Shorties, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yeah this is looking like a cheap emulator hack, got our hopes up too. :(
- Afrotronics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was able to do it in the emulator called Project64, but not by using a code. What I did was I went to the menu and went to "Cheats". Then I went to "Story Mode" and then went to "Player 1" and then I double clicked on "Character Modifier" and then selected "Master Hand". After that I started the game in story mode and selected any character and I became Master Hand. Boo ya!
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13The original smash bros is still the best
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Towards the end of the video, the big hand starts sticking up it's middle finger... I wonder if that was intentional..
- Arbus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4if anything that makes it more credible. It's not like someone would make a flashing window program to fake n64 cheats. Or would they? !!
- matthewaaron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Who goes into a game and thinks... "If I rotate the analog stick 30 times, I'll get a big white hand..." ... uh... nevermind...
- daridave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Fake. Tried over 20 times, doesn't work. Besides, you can see its' the emulator.
- caryw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Please let this be real. I just tried 3 times on my US edition smash brothers with no luck. Oh, and I challenge all of you fools to a tournament. Fox will be victorious, as usual.
No seriously, tournament if you're in the Wash DC area? Arrange it on http://www.fairfaxunderground.com/ or something. - MalDON, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yea, really clear that it was faked. I stopped watching once I saw the flashing windows box.
- randall814, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7this is such a phenomenal find.
i was playing it with some buddies at central michigan university this weekend. i wish i would have known this, i would have been a badass. - smohan123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm feeding my dog 1000 baby rabbits in spite of the creators of this hoax just because this is fake and I so wanted it to be real. >.<
Don't mess with my head -- I'll kill innocent furry animals if you do!! - GuitaristTom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4way to raise my hopes and then shoot them down bc its a fake
- strikerK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This has been a rumour ever since this game has come out. And a rumour is all that i thought it was. If this is real its incredible.
gonna have to try it, cuz i dont really beleive its real. - nundeeram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For my own sanity, HumungousRight, please do that.
- sdrawkcaB, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can recall using a gameshark to play as masterhand, it was incredibly awesome, but I grew tired of it because it would crash the game when health hit 0HP!
- DRTtom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i think you are right
- XxXoldsaltXxX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I meant like until someone actually tried it on an n64. But ok, i should have worded that better.
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well i guess i have to say it again .... The song is the theme to Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
- RiemannLebesgue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How are people testing this out? I'm wondering if this is some weird glitch to do with the emulator. (I know that shouldn't make a difference, but hey.) I have the console version packed away (I won't use emulators).
- fredkreuger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2lol
MickeyDees == HumungousRight? - FaMiNe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Also can't reproduce it.
Looks like that video is made with an emulator, too. - Goombellaofgoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Maybe he only plays the classic mario games, no SSB or SMS?
- TychoQuad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3No go for me either.
- Kujila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As posted before, it's emulated... I did that with my 64 gameshark years ago
- rubored, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3*****...Yes...!
- npdcrazypyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So wait, does this work or not? Some people are claiming it does, but I haven't been able to get it to work on the emulator or the n64, and i've tried 6 times now.
- catoutfit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Until its proven (or disproven) that this is a fake, i dont believe that."
Welcome to the English language! You must be new here. - TheSquid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I did it with the Project64 emulator, pretty neat.
- Araxen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2marked inaccurate. This is a fake.
- damagemanual, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yup, folks on Youtube even say it's a fake. It may or may not be, but I'd still question it.
- maci01, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is obviously a stunt by Nintendo in order to increase sales.
