"Hoe is controlling the game with your whole arm any different than with your thumb or index finger?"
umm... because Most games only use a controller pad vs a gyroscopic controller to control games?
And how does HD make a game more immersive? If you move your head, guess what? THE IMAGE DISAPPERS!! Until we start seeing VR helmets, you're not going to get an immersive experience out of a game.
Why the drooling madness for HD? I don't have an HD TV, I'm not interested in an HD TV right now. While good graphics are nice in a game, it's the gameplay that makes a game worth playing.
There are a lot of games with incredible graphics, but not many with something different when it comes to gameplay.
And what's wrong with getting more than just your 14 year old friends together to play a game? What's wrong with getting more people involved in gaming?
I dunno, just seems like a lot of X-Box fanboys boo hooing something because it's not a 360. - ezweave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2RTFA.
Opinions are your own, but I am sick of games these days... too much of the same thing over and over. That is why the Revolution is the only system I am interested in. I think it is a good thing, it seems like there is some "stagnation" in the industry now. Nintendo keeps it fresh, B. - dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Amazing how the comments are polarized to 3 basic things: Xbox looks pretty, if you have an HD TV, and spend all your time looking at the images rather than the overall game you are playing. Generally for me, this causes bad gameplay.
Sony hasn't said much about what their console will do, but the fanboys claim that it will kill the xbox and the rev because it has a better chip.
Seems like the Revolution has the most compelling arguments... cost, gameplay innovation, graphics that are about as good as most people care about since HD screens aren't yet the norm. And backwards compatibility, possibly even with old sega games...
Anyone else seem to notice this? - artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, you don't need to make large body movements. If you can flick your wrist, then you can use this controller.
- Junpei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The difference between moving your thumb and moving your body is completely different. You can actually get "into" the game, so to speak, instead of just controlling the character. I think that's going to make a world of difference.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm interested in the revolution.
The 360 and ps3 have still failed to catch my interest. They've caught my eye, but I learned with the xbox that eye candy is meaningless. - _HAM_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Revolution is HD"
LOL, uh where did you come up with this. Computer games ARE in HD, have been for years.
My monitor and current PC games display in a much higher digital resolution than on an HDTV? Hell even an old CRT running at 1280x1024 looks better than HD. Where have you been?
Gameplay>Graphics - ThisGeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hate IGN, but Lord love the fact that they're sleeping with someone at Nintendo.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1^ bad gameplay as in. *Wow, I died fast because I was too busy looking at the scenery to pay attention to that sniper...*
- AbsentLight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Japanese 360 suppourt = American Revolution Suppourt
- jayf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I played Ridge Racer for XBOX 360 and it wasn't at all smooth like I thought it would be. I found this extremely annoying. Looking closer at the commercials for various games I noticed the same dropping of frames and it looks like how a DirectX game would play on a normal PC.
I'll stick with Mario Kart and the revolution as my target purchase for the next gen. - spidoman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Revolution is the only console I've ever been excited about, especially if they sell it cheaper than the x360 and ps3. Nintendo proves that gameplay>graphics. The Mario franchise is a modern day miracle. They pump out games, and 9/10 of them get 9/10 reviews. Nintendo knows how to make games that above all are FUN, especially if you have a friend to play with. Nintendo does not makes games for people who are concerned about looking cool. If you think Nintendo is too kiddy then you are missing out on so much. Games like SSBM, Mariokart, and mario tennis are some of the most fun games you will ever play, despite your age. You don't have to kill hookers and cops to have a fun game.
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think that it is time for a revolution and nintendo will bring it, more and more games are bland as hell and only a few stand out titles, with the revolution it will make developers use their creativity and develop games that are out of this world, and saying that moving it with your whole arm and your thumb are the same is just ludicris. Artemus is right hd is a gimmick. do i want a console that will overheat and burn my house down, no. i want a console that i will have fun on, and i wont be afraid to let others play with me. games are more fun with people and the revolution will let others who havent played games to play with you, if you have girlfriends how bad is it trying to play a game and spend time with her, not going to happen, the revolution is trying to get so all gamers will like it and draw new gamers in, so when your playing that girlfriend or brother or sister will want to play with you, and on the plus side nintendo makes awesome party games....
- ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think Nintendo is actually on to something. I have been pointing and clicking other 'people' while using WASD for too many years now. A change will be nice. I like those Bass Fishing games too. Revolution might be the system for me providing they come out at the right price point. $200-$250 CAD and I would be happy to throw my money at them for a unique (hopefully) well executed system.
I was all about XBOX360 for awhile but now Im not sure. I dont know why everyone is stuck in the rut of following genres. Or only adding a small twist. Its time for something totally new. - dakari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1NO DIGG...
anyone here actually read the friggin article? This is the only thing mentioned about The Revolution at ALL:
"Revolution is included in the list, making AQ one of the first 3rd parties to commit support for Nintendo's new platform. The company is working on an original action title and a game based off a major comic license. Additional details were not provided at the press conference."
Errr, no. there were NO games announced, just the process of making one, with no other juicy info. how misleading of a digg story!
{wahh wahh i know} - Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0how would they not get 3rd party support.... they are ***** nintendo.
- furashi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I cant belive yall are digging this ***** link.
- Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"So the only difference between the 360, PS3 and Rev are that the 360 has live(which is the future of gaming, go ahead and flame away but im right) the PS3 has Killzone 2, and the revolution has a remote for a troller"
But the Revolution also has Nintendo Wifi (which we've already seen in use on the DS), so the argument of live is now mute, because future of gaming or not, PC gamers have been doing it for years, and Xbox is not the only console that is going to be doing it (surely PS3 has something similar, they would be insane not to). Tis not a flame, just saying that its not that major a part of the future of gaming, well, it is, but not as an Xbox exclusive feature.
In reality, there are a fair few differences, although I'm struggling to see the big ones between the PS3 and 360 (I really don't know much about the PS3, it doesn't really interest me), but Nintendo has a fair few, first of all the first party games, the controller and the back catalogue. PS3 and 360 have HD (although thats something that personally doesn't affect me because I don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for a new TV to play a console, quality of graphics is not worth the money), and their own appeals. . . .
I think I've started to ramble and forgot the point I was trying to make, which is that all consoles are reasonably different, but if anything the true thing that will seperate them is the console exclusive games, not things like online capability (because at least two I know for sure have it and the third should), controllers (which admittedly add a different element of gameplay, but won't define the console) or the third party games that end up being on all consoles. - Soave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mmm sorry Genrebusters, but no. Making actual arm motions is much different than using your thumb.
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sorry, "I meant third party support for one console".
- artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hardly, especially since Sony's told us next to nothing about their console. Besides, if anyone wants to talk about a "gimmick", it's HD. Who cares if I can see a few more drops of rain? As long as it has good graphics, great gameplay, and an affordable price, who cares?
Oh, and by the way, I can't digg this. That article spends too much time talking about the 360 and the PS3, and not enough about the Revolution. If you're going to write an article about a third party supporting one console, don't waste the bulk of the space talking about the competition. - artemus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Gameplay>Graphics
Except when video game companies churn out mind-numbing, soulless dreck. I think that some companies honestly believe they can justify selling out badly designed software, as long as it is good looking. - Abx0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@dongiaconia: OMG How many times has that happened to me...LOL
- Pooavenger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0who seriously reads the 1,000 word essays that people post? what the *****.
- pinoyboy82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nintendo's comeback begins. Gettin a DS for Christmas and most likely getting a Revolution once it comes out.
/Last system I bought was a PS...
//PC games were 'generally' better than PS2, XBox, and Gamecube.
///I still play Starcraft to this day
////I must think I'm on fark or something... - joelito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know:
But it appears is not much about the Revolution and more about a new player in Video game design. The only clear reference to the Revolution is that they'll develop games for the Revolution as well as games for the 360 and PS3 - nericq, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Uh.....shouldn't we wait until all the consoles are out before we compare them?
- mr.gates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sick, need to be at work in the morning, and bit pissed off, so I'm just going to rant for a moment here.
Halo is ***** what kind of a loser wants to play a FPS with a game-pad, Halo 2 is even more ***** for being the exact same game as HALO. Quite nearly every xbox game in existence is single player, and as for the idiot that mentioned xbox live, I'm sorry that's not playing games with other people, and don't worry you'll lose your virginity some day soon I promise. I'd also like to praise (I'm not being sarcastic seriously) the man that brought up the GTA series, and how utterly similure, and crappy each of those games are, but sadly this is the majority of the next generation, the same people that listen to hip hop, r&b, pop, crap on the radio with 0 taste. My only condolence is that very few of them will amount to anything, and the even funnier part is, that they think I meant none of them will get a well paying job, as if one, working for a company and getting a degree is the only way to get money, and two, as if money was the only way to live a successfull life, congratulations, you've been brainwashed. - pirilampo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The hype is working, as far as I'm concerned. I have no interest in any of the new consoles, other than the Revolution. I'll stick to my PC till then.
- ReyBrujo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just hope Spong rumours - http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=9431 - are true, and that Sega will release some of their old Megadrive games.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Since Nintendo isn't going to support HDTV with the Revolution, I hope they will at least make it easy for developers to support Anamorphic Widescreen output for people with widescreen TVs.
I have an HDTV and I plan on getting a Revolution. I'm not worried that it doesn't output HD signals because neither the Xbox 360 nor the PS3 (demos) are putting out anything better looking than the movies I play from my DVD player which are in standard definition. So, it is entirely plausible that the Revolution could have better graphics than the other two even though it doesn't output in high def. The only inherent advantage of HDTV in video games is legibility of text. - adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Have any of you Nintendo fans actually played a console game in HD? Probably not, which is why you don't think it is such a big deal. Trust me, once you see something projected on a 96" screen in HD, you will never go back."
Yes I have actually, I know plenty of people with HD projectors. And the only thing that made it cool was the fact that it was on such a large screen. Once we went back to playing on some HD TV's it wasn't enough to impress me. And since most of the gamers are still gonna be playing with the good old yellow, red, and white hookups for a while, HD isn't a big deal. - Darkshine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Have any of you Nintendo fans actually played a console game in HD? Probably not, which is why you don't think it is such a big deal. Trust me, once you see something projected on a 96" screen in HD, you will never go back."
Yeah. I was like "Holy crap I can actually see what's going on in Halo 2 now!" That was it. And I'm not shelling out thousands for a projector let alone finding a wall in my house good enough to project on. - Trjn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Ah yes the Revolution. When would people realise that the controller isn't the reason games are bland and when would people realise graphics isn't the death of gaming? When? Nintendo has the most re-used franchise than any other gaming company and in some cases Nintendo has reused the same franchise more than the sum of games than some of the top developers entire gaming library but for some odd reason Nintendo would bring about innovation and originality with the Revolution. o.0 I guess folks can be easily fooled into believing they are playing a game differently if they are using a different interface."
I like how people bring up Nintendo's use of their franchises as a case against them, because I can really see how them using their franchises works against them. Theres no innovation AT ALL in the Mario franchise, its been completely stagnant from the first Mario game and hasn't innovated at all.
Legend of Zelda? Nothing new has been introduced in any of those games either, same for Metroid and any other franchise you chose to name.
No wait, I'm not thinking straight, its the game franchises like GTA that stick to the same formula and don't add anything with later titles in the franchise, Nintendo franchises simply keep some elements and build on the other elements.
Theres a reason why Nintendo can keep churning out games from the same franchise. . . they don't keep churning out the same game with newer graphics and changed character names. - wwwaddedsavings, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'm glad to see some more companies supporting Nintendo.
http://www.addedsavings.com/ - emerica88x, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0you want a cool game go here.... http://www.outpimp.com/?x=481602381
- walkingmac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0First... the 360 is and will be an awful system as soon as the PS3 and Revolution hit the market. If for no other reason then the fact that it is still tied to DVD media. Want "more complex, intricate and immersive" games, that requires disc space. Lets see... 8GB or what like 50 GB? As to gameplay and immersion in the game, then the obvious benefits of the Revolution game input becomes intoxicatingly apparent. No matter how you look at it, M$ fails again with the XBOX, and will continue to lose money (which they see as OK as they can afford to do that as they have other, more sinister, plans with the direction of the XBOX). The Revolution, even with what has been reveled about it and there is still more to come, brings a new paradigm to playing games. So different that all we can do is imagine it until we see some gameplay videos and then when it hits the streets. Bottom line, hardcore gamers, stop downing everything that comes from Nintendo just cause they made it. Even the GC is more advanced then most want to admit. OK, enough ranting, just play wait and see.
- sunnyboy06, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's great to see that companies are jumping into bed with Nintendo on this new console. I just hope they have more third parties than the Gamecube did, otherwise the game library will be *****.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Cry On sounds very....Nintedo-ish. In other words, very kid-ish. Well, at least Smash Bros. will be one good game on the revolution.
- ezkiel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Mmm sorry Genrebusters, but no. Making actual arm motions is much different than using your thumb."
Exactly. So you won't mind when I full out swing my arm into your face, cause its the same as lightly poking you with my finger - darthrsg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0360 Japanese support, hells yeah.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0althe3rduww, two posts up man. I have an HDTV. I watch HDTV off the air. It looks *****-loads better than standard definition TV. But, the point is that none of the next generation systems are going to be putting out video that is up to par with standard definition content so it is largely a waste. The only inherent benefit of HDTV for video games is text legibility. Although, I guess it might be "cheaper" to throw pixels at the problem than to apply enough filters and generate enough polygons to get up to the quality of standard definition TV.
And NTSC DVDs are 480 lines, so they are standard definition. I guess I do have the advantage of the signal coming from my DVD player as progressive instead of interlaced, but that isn't a huge difference. - genrebusters, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Have any of you Nintendo fans actually played a console game in HD? Probably not, which is why you don't think it is such a big deal. Trust me, once you see something projected on a 96" screen in HD, you will never go back.
I like my games complex, and I like them to be more than just button-mashing party games, or carnival type skill games, which is what Nintendo is going to focus on to draw in the non-gaming crown, their new target audience.
I will take complex worlds and stories with lush graphics and sound that envelopes me into the world of the game over the above.
So, you guys can play your revolution, and other people will stick with Sony or Xbox, big deal, but its not the revolution you are all hoping for. Now, if the big N drops the VR helmet from the fake ON video? That's a different story! - dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0im getting the Rev yes or yes lol?
- genrebusters, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@ezweave
Hoe is controlling the game with your whole arm any different than with your thumb or index finger?
Answer is: its not! A new way to move the controller is not a Revolution.
Revolution is HD with detailed worlds that are complex and react in real ways to what you the player do in them.
All Nintendo is focusing on is an easier, more "animated" way to control the games so it looks like more "fun" so your parents and grandparents will get involved.
Play some great games in HD, and then imagine those same games even more complex and even better looking and sounding to where they completely draw you into the world - now this will be the revolution.
New kinds of interactive carnival games are just new gimmicks where you shake your arm rather than use your thumb on a D-pad or analog pad. - DewayneSmith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Funny thing people are talking about IGN being in bed with Nintendo, I personally know a guy who was in bed with the CEO of Sony Japan's wife.
- althe3rduww, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good graphics are directly proportional to HD. With a higher resolution output the level of detail that can be seen on screen is much higher. Those of you whining about HD being pointless obviously don't have an HD tv. Nor have you spent much time on one. As someone who has the 360 and plays it on his 44" HDtv and his friends 50" standard def tv I can tell you that the difference is immense. HD really draws you into the the experience.
On an additional note. DVD's are not standard def they are technically half way inbetween standard NTSC and Hi Def. Which means if you haven't watched a true HD feed on an HDTV you still haven't seen what HD is capable of. The 360 is putting out games in true 1080i not just 720p and 480p and having been a witness of those games I can say they are quite amazing. And I from what I keep hearing the Revolution will have HD support it just hasn't been added. Even the gamecube offered HD out put, it was just the games that weren't in HD.
So until the console is actually out, don't make your judgement on it... good or bad. And for those putting down HD, don't knock it till you try it. - Faux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0"how would they not get 3rd party support.... they are ***** nintendo."
You obviously werent around for the GC...
I always find it extremely amusing, and by amusing i mean pissed off, reading peoples opinions on video games, in particular fanboys. Here is the golden rule for commenting on the internet, if you dont know what you are talking about, then please shut your mouth and go make me a sandwich...
But seriously fanboy pissing contests really need to stop. If you knew anything about games you would know that every game is cross platform now, so it really doesnt matter what console you prefer. this will really start to show up in the next generation b/c alot of Japanese devs are now publishing on the 360 that were previously only on the PS3 and the Revolution. So the only difference between the 360, PS3 and Rev are that the 360 has live(which is the future of gaming, go ahead and flame away but im right) the PS3 has Killzone 2, and the revolution has a remote for a troller. Other than that there will be very little difference between the three consoles. Sure there will be acouple exclusive games, but those are goign to be fewer and fewer. As production costs rise, developers will need to make as much money as possible by whoring themselves out to all three consoles(assuming it can be ported to the rev and played w/ a remote) and releasing a version on PC.
I usually dont rant like this, but seriously i just couldnt take any more fanboy *****. Its not like you own a share of the company so why the hell are you so defensive?
I await flames and more fanboy bs, so bring it! - gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Wow is Nintendo still going to do the remote?
