- rukeypoo, on 05/22/2009, -5/+74!
- Yeknom, on 05/22/2009, -5/+46I think they should make the original metal gear in full 3d. That way people who aren't hardcore gamers or mgs fanboys can experience the original story without archaic gameplay and graphics.
- dj_sea2005, on 05/22/2009, -1/+31Oh god, the noise played in my head as i saw that
- Riggaberto, on 05/22/2009, -6/+28Metal Gear Solid 2: Under-rated. That's my 2 cents. But on topic, very excited...
- pfhayter, on 05/21/2009, -4/+25Geriatric Snake?
- JanusTheDoorman, on 05/22/2009, -2/+19Except the part where he, rather forcibly, tied up the entire series at the end of the last game and has repeatedly said he's done with it, he wants to move on to other stuff personally, and that if a team wants to make MGS5, they're free to do so, so long as they don't expect him to be involved?
- Afrochu, on 05/22/2009, -8/+24Cool! And the introductory cutscene will last until MGS6 gets released!
- edwintait, on 05/22/2009, -5/+21"oh gawd"? what is with some of these comments?!
Metal Gear in its worst of times, is still one of the greatest video games of our time. If your into the game, you are into it. If not, why would you ever check the link?
I loved 4, and i KNOW if Kojima is making 5 it isnt because of money, its because he has an amazing story line to keep the franchise going. - Jamiekin, on 05/22/2009, -3/+18CRAB BATTLE....
- Jamiekin, on 05/22/2009, -0/+14Kojima said that after MGS2 and MGS3 as well, didn't he O_o
- noangelcame, on 05/22/2009, -9/+20For me personally,. they haven't been able to capture the magic of the first Metal Gear Solid,.. and with each successive game,. it feels like my excitement for the series has been on a downward slide.
...and I looooved the first Metal Gear Solid,. so don't get me wrong,. I was big of a fan as any. Sniper Wolf's death scene,. Vulcan Raven's death scene, and the entire ending,. I feel are still the strongest examples of fine art in gaming. But,. I can't feel the same way about any part of Metal Gear Solid 4,.. at all. So,. with the announcement of MGS5,. I feel nothing. - Kenelm, on 05/22/2009, -2/+132001: "MGS2 will mark the end of the series."
2004: "MGS3 will be the last one in the series. It's real this time."
2005: "Ok, I lied, we started working on MGS4, but this one will be last in the series, I promise."
2009: "Surprise! I guess you didn't saw it coming hahaha..." - Pinkshisno, on 05/22/2009, -4/+14If it's going to be a new Metal Gear, I sure hope it's a remake of the first MSX version.
- Griff431, on 05/22/2009, -3/+125 @ E3
So... Metal Gear Solid 5 to be announced at e3? Can't wait! - SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/22/2009, -1/+10I don't know what you are all on about. MGS3 was a work of art and without a doubt one of the best PS2 games ever made. MGS1 was certainly groundbreaking, but each successive title carried its own weight, its own style, and its own experience. They're unique games even within a single franchise.
Subxero, you must not have played the first MG:S or forgotten about it if you think things didn't get wacky until the second game. In MG:S you faught a psychic who checked your memory card for Konami games and told you that you played them. There was a cyborg ninja who ends up being your old war buddy who you thought you killed but ends up helping you kill your "twin" brother who, like you, was born out of an ill conceived Cold War genetic engineering experiment which also happened to produce EVERY SINGLE GRUNT IN THE GAME. It was Attack of the Clones BEFORE Attack of the Clones. What's more, this all ends up being the result of some deep rooted government conspiracy which connects straight to the PRESIDENT HIMSELF who was actually in contact with who you thought was just another side character boss battle but who is really a government plant placed in Fox Hound to ensure everything plays out as its supposed to. You were first told you were going in to save the DARPA chief but that turns out to be a complete lie and you are just a pawn played as the Ace in the Hole assassin. You fight a Native American type of guy who walks around carrying a mini-gun and gets eaten by his own pet birds. Everyone you try to save dies because of a government engineered virus injected in you and designed to kill only specific people including your twin brother, the DARPA chief, and some old guy you save from Ocelot whose name I don't remember. You meat a young scientist who wets himself and has guilt issues about the fact his dad worked on the Manhattan Project.
Jesus man, that's not even everything, but I think you get the point. The original MG:S was just as complicated, contrived and brilliantly entertaining as the rest of them. - Egotrippin, on 05/22/2009, -4/+13Agreed. The original MGS was so unique and revolutionary at it's time, it was extremely difficult to judge the followups without unfairly comparing it to the original. I mean the from opening note that plays as Snake rises above the water to the intense chase scene at the end, everything was perfectly crafted. The characters, the story, the game play, the music and the cut scenes all made that gaming experience so unique. And yes the successors are much prettier and gameplay mechanics are much improved, but they can't even come close to the original MGS experience.
- inactive, on 05/22/2009, -7/+15Now that's great - an announcement about a soon to be announced. What the hell, internet, ***** you ***** you ***** you.
- nerdherder, on 05/22/2009, -4/+12I think they will announce an old Metal Gear Solid 5.
- yellowfish04, on 05/22/2009, -5/+13Huh? What was that noise?
- thenothingman, on 05/22/2009, -4/+12This will probably be the special edition of MGS4, like Substance and Subsistence were for 2 and 3.
Will be interesting to see the special features, but i wont be buying; MGS4 took the anoying quirks of the other games i.e. massive cut scenes and retarded plot twists ("he wasnt really posssed by Liquids arm, he was just faking it to make some AI's think he was on their side" W-T-F) and took them to the extreme.
That and the fact that Snake's got the most anti-climactic ending ever: Foxdie is magically cured and Snake doesnt die but chooses to "live alone . . . as a beast" or some other sentimental bollocks
/end rant - Elranzer, on 05/22/2009, -0/+7Digg... bringing you announcements of announcements since 2005
- StormTroopr, on 05/22/2009, -3/+10Go back to your early 80's arcades. The video game genre has evolved and now includes games with plot and not just pure game play.
- Elranzer, on 05/22/2009, -0/+7Geriatric Snake? Dead/Zombie Snake? No one considers the obvious possibility...
BABY Snake! - joeleslie, on 05/22/2009, -1/+7Unless, that was all just a clever ruse...
- cuervoman914, on 05/22/2009, -4/+10man, i totally get what you're saying. although when you went back to shadow moses, there was a sense of "OMFG" that i never quite got playing any other game. that was epic. Each game (except for MGS2, which at the end added the genku soldiers)has become it's own game, evolved to continue the story. so you wont get the same thing over and over again, they're all different, in their own way, their own game.
- Rachmaninov, on 05/21/2009, -4/+10I hope it is, but I wont get too excited about it until it's actually announced.
- FireandFlame, on 05/22/2009, -1/+7Its not random numbers. Its E 3 5. ala @E3 We'll learn what 5 is
- bjs3171, on 05/22/2009, -1/+7i just played the game. i didn't time any of them, but i really don't think there were any cutscenes over 45 minutes. if there were, it didn't seem like it.
- StormTroopr, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5I bought the PS3 just to play it. I don't see why it shouldn't be ported... Any of the 14 people that buried that comment care to enlighten me?
btw, not dissing the PS3, and I don't think that commenter was either. Although I haven't used my PS3 since MGS4, I did buy Valkyria Chronicles and I can't wait to start it now that my 360 finally RRODed (It has lasted since release). - adamnikyo, on 05/22/2009, -0/+5It's likely just a special edition of MGS4. Every MGS game has gotten a remake or special edition of some sort. That "5" may just be an "S". Consider the special editions of both MGS2 and MGS3 started with an "S" (Substance/Subsistence).
- cuervoman914, on 05/22/2009, -3/+8No respect lost, the man is a genious. PLUS, this would be the shortest gap in between stories. what's there not to like? Although a new zone of the enders is more than due, that game rocked.
- phylum, on 05/22/2009, -2/+6means a new $5 footlong is coming out at E3, yay!
- Egotrippin, on 05/22/2009, -5/+9Playing as The Boss during her WWII missions would be pretty sick.
- Muffinhunter, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5he said it was the end of solid snake's story, not the end of MGS.
- whytey, on 05/22/2009, -1/+5There is going to be about 4 countdown timers at the end of this one it will just reset and go onto another.
- Soniti, on 05/22/2009, -4/+8If you go to the official "next" kojima productions page, it flashes the letters / numbers E, then 3, then 5.. Also, if you view page source, the terms MGS, Metal Gear, and "Next" are in the header...
I think this ***** is pretty damn obvious at this point.. - JoeyNine, on 05/22/2009, -3/+7This new Metal Gear Solid will dispense with the actual gameplay, just load screens of Snake smoking and a twenty hour, nonsensical cutscene. Matter of fact, it'll just shock you if you pick up the controller.
- finaldrumgod, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3I think he means Metal Gear and not MGS.
- hinesh, on 05/22/2009, -2/+5http://www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next/index.html
it is now doing random numbers - subxero37, on 05/22/2009, -4/+7I think the best thing about the original MGS was that the storyline was fantastic and its presentation was flawless. Most, if not all, aspects of the story were believable, and possibly plausible. When MGS2 picked up the story, it went so far off the radar that it just made no sense anymore -- parts of the story were so over-the-top and, well, honestly, ridiculous that it greatly diminished the quality of the game. The whole "Liquid's arm" thing was just terrible. I had more fun playing the VR missions in MGS2 than the actual game. The acting was way off, too; it sounded like the actors (especially David Hayter and the guy who played Solidus) were trying much too hard, and the dialog sounded forced and sketchy. MGS3 made the story into a huge mess. I wanted to like MGS4, but it's just so far off from the original MGS that I loved that I couldn't really get myself into it at all.
MGS is my all-time favorite game, and I still own my original copy. It's the only game I will absolutely never get tired of, and it's a game that I love introducing people to (believe it or not, quite a few people have no idea what it is). I just don't feel the same way about the sequels in the series. Glad to know others agree with me :) - ry4nsm1th, on 05/25/2009, -0/+3Yo dawg I heard you like announcements...
- doubledmateo, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3Yeah I really had trouble with the whole Liquid's arm thing. It just doesn't add up. Did Liquid/Ocelot want Snake to succeed? What was the purpose in the whole stabbing and shocking him scene? Just to make it look real in case the computers were watching? So he planned on the scientist chick to do all the stuff she did? There were just way too many variables in his 'plan' that couldn't have been predicted. Perhaps I'm just dense, but I've played the game completely through twice now and it makes no sense to me. It looks great and it's fun to watch/play, but it's totally nutty.
Also, WTF with the wedding scene in the end. Does this stuff make sense if you're Japanese? It's so bizarre. - YoctoYotta, on 05/22/2009, -0/+3Here's my guess. Either the current teaser campaign is a big red herring that is blatantly alluding to a 5th game in the Metal Gear Solid series starring Raiden (Raiden = lightning in Japanese) but actually has nothing to do with MGS and Kojima is just being his tricky brilliant self, or Kojima is alluding to a 5th game in the Metal Gear Solid series starring Raiden and he's being more blatant about it than we'd expect him to be. Regarding Raiden's uh . . . modifications at the end of 4, this new game could potentially be an origins story of sorts that covers the events between 2 and 4. Would Kojima direct such a thing? Maybe he'll finally stop lying about being through directing the series, and that's okay with me.
I'm with you, I'm a fan of the series and if this is all not what it appears to be, I don't really care, anything from Kojima's company is something to look forward to. - Inverno, on 05/23/2009, -0/+3"5" new levels for the iPhone game maybe?
- cuervoman914, on 05/22/2009, -2/+5plausible. but also there's the whole "5 @ E3" thing.
- hatdrop, on 05/24/2009, -0/+3who has a 20 minute codec conversation while you're fighting the last boss?! dumb ass raiden, he's lucky solidus let him talk to the buggy AI!
- volacide, on 05/23/2009, -1/+4You fool. Half-Life: Source is not considered a remake in the slightest. It's just the Half-Life 1 game unaltered except for visual changes like Source engine water and physics. Everything else remains the same and VALVe has never advertised it as such.
That being said, I have to disagree, if Kojima were behind the reigns. I happen to believe he could remake any one of the Metal Gear games and have it actually be better than the original. Silicon Knights is responsible for Twin Snakes. - SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/22/2009, -3/+6I don't think that's how it works. I'm pretty sure when you consistently make your publisher a ***** of money they learn to let you do whatever the ***** you want.
If you don't think the Kojima name is entirely marketable you're out of your mind. I'm not sure what sort of contracts he's obliged by, but outside of that there should be no doubt he could walk away from Konami any time he wants. That said, I doubt that he would want to. By all accounts they've let him do a lot of really risky and liberal stuff. I don't see them as very controlling at all. He's really pushed the envelope over the years, and Konami has always backed him up in doing it. - daridave, on 05/22/2009, -4/+7I find it funny how anyone who says "please no" or anything like it, gets buried. What, so we're all f*cking supposed to love Metal Gear Solid like crazy teens and go nuts every time it gets mentioned ? Sure the 4 was a AWESOME game (yes, I did that on purpose), but I don't want a 5 as well. At least NOT NOW. MGS4 is still a pure masterpiece at the present, so let it rest on top for a bit. Do something else. The Metal Gear concept is a great one, but I don't think a sequel is the way to go for the next 2-3 years. And for f*ck's sake please don't pull a Twilight Princess on us. Or a Resident Evil. Years of anticipation and then you realize its predecessor was simply better. PLEASE avoid that. Or am I asking for too much ?
- JayD16, on 05/25/2009, -1/+4To be fair, he never said 4 was the last MGS. He just said it was probably the last MGS with Snake.
