Doesnt look like the forum will hold up to the Digg Effect and they're linking to gamespot that should handle it fine. - Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13So much of PC gaming being dead and consoles prevailing. I think Crysis would easily make a Gears of War equilevant, or better
- EztliNahua, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23Coming out Q1 2007, Crysis!
Coming Q4 2007, computers that can play it! - mattinc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+103 Mirrors here: http://incrysis.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2318
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12A conversation I had with a friend in that matter, I think it covers the situation.
-So better trim the DX10 graphics out so that they can play in console.
-Hey, this is what happens when you lower graphics settings on old generation PCs too.
-No you pitiful jerk this can't happen in PCs, every time you buy a new game you have also to buy new hardware, unlike consoles.
-Yeah this is what you do if you want the full graphical experience of a game, since PCs are not coming out in generations they constantly become better, as such PC-games graphics too, unlike consoles' ones which remain the same with just some flasy thricks added. For example my 2002 PC can show a lot better graphics than PS2 could ever imagine in PS2's native resolution, 64x48.
-But -still- an XBOX360 is only $400 and gives you the performance of a unseemingly more expensive PC, plus it saves you from the nuisance of installing games, bugs, patches and other such PC crap.
-I don't know why but you (plural) always forget the HD TV cost (unless you are one of the very few who had an HDTV before XBOX). So the actual operation is more like $400 + $800 = $1200. An $1200 PC's hardware can literaly blow XBOX360's one (first myth busted). Certainly when you put the game in the Box you expect it to play, but installing it in a PC is -most of the times- hardly a nuisance, you just push 3-5 Next(s) and you're done. As for the bugs story, oh don't give me that, bugs and patches was always in the realm of PC-gaming and was always a thorn in its balls, but new-gen console systems seems to have welcomed them in their realm too, so please don't give me that, at least in PC it is easy to fix some of them even by your own ways, in consoles you are screwed if you don't have an Internet connection or alternatively you will just wait and wait and wait when and IF game developers would actually make a patch for you to download (2nd myth busted). Also you seem to forget that console games cost 10-40 bucks more than the PC ones, in the long run this is quite of a fortune, a hardcore gamer would actually pay more than $1000 premium, so add this to the initial budget too. $1200-$2200, ouch! quite of an amount.
Don't forget that gaming PCs can also be used as regular PCs so it eliminates you the need of a PC (except if you are of the sparse minority who is still working on pen and paper), you may don't see it but this alone can save you much money. Also keep in mind that old computer hardware never becomes obsolete if more than 8-10 years haven't been passed by, you can easily make with your old hardware a handy home-server, make it your HEPC or even "donate" it to your niece for his/her first computer experiences, -hell- if you don't know what to do with it at all just make it a folding machine just by installing Folding@Home. So many uses of an old PC, unlike an old console which goes to the garage awaiting its final demise, collecting dust.
"
I always thought consoles as gimmicky for those who have little to no hardware knowledge, the same can be said for PC parts, but it won't be true because they indeed -most of them- worth their money. For example an 8800GTX is indeed an 600 buck piece since its sophistication exceeds PS3's one alone which costs the same. The good in PCs is that you get what you pay for, unlike consoles which rip you off from their biennium onwards (they rip you off with games' prices from their release even). - Alegis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Actually the article clearly states that current gaming rigs will be able to play it near direct3D 10-fidelity.

- catalysis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Sounds like a lot of you who are bitching about upgrading hardware haven't played a PC game in a while. This isn't the Windows 3.1 days. Most games have flexable settings that allow you to play on any computer bought in the last 5 years as long as it has a decent ($100) graphics card. Seriously, if your comp only has 512MB of memory and less than 1.0GHz, you should really think about upgrading anyways.
- orientis, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7darsh? What the ***** is that?
- Tmacman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"Crysis is a new first person shooter being developed by Crytek, the makers of the award-winning Far Cry. The game is to be released (hopefully) in Q2, 2007 and will be published under EA Games."
Far Cry was a Ubisoft release, too bad the Crysis team went with EA. It looks like a great game, I only hope that Crysis can keep EA from screwing it up like EA did with that POS BF 2142. - po43292, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Far Cry ran pretty good on modest computers. I don't think this will run like real crap unless you're trying to max all the setttings.
- Shenaniganz08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Are you using VLC player ???
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
if I can run full screen HD on a 900mhz laptop using VLC player then you must be doing something wrong :P
edit for harzardc you can play .mov files on VLC aswell - pcgeek101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, whenever fanbois say that PC gaming is dead, I remind them that about a couple hundred million computers are out there that people play games on. Microsoft sold about 10.4 million Xbox 360's. Last I checked, 200 mil > 10.4 mil; This data was presented at CES by Bill Gates. PC gaming is the future.

- Coffeedemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I think Crysis would easily make a Gears of War equilevant, or better"
Well it certainly is pretty but why don't we wait a bit and find out if its actually a good game. - kolywater, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3....except for the 404 (of course on the HD one, the only one worth watching):

- Ray301, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8The game looks beautiful... but I'm not sure if its such a big step forward for PC gaming if it requires people to buy 1 or even 2 $500 graphic cards, and maybe additional computer upgrades to achieve the quality of the screen shot (and playable frame rates).
It should have fine prints on the bottom of the screen shot: "Warning, actual game experience on your computer may look and feel like ass... Unless you sell your right kidney or pimp your wife out for a $5000 gaming rig" - AkshayGenius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3None of the mirrors are workin
- mroffroad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5you are an un-informed jackass of epic quality... go back to playing The Sims...
- Barr08, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And you misspelled beautiful.
- rocman9, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9But out of that 200 million, you probably couldn't even calculate the tiny fraction of that group who have or could afford a computer that could run this game. That's the problem with PC gaming. The barriers to entry are ridiculously expensive and hardly ever stable enough to justify dropping hundreds or thousands of dollars on.
That doesn't make this game any more beautiful though. Maybe it's just my jealousy speaking. - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Cool.. I'll be able to play it within a decade.

- mattcoady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh boy. My computer isn't even up to spec to run the video at a decent frame rate.

- EvolvedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wait.. this game requires DirectX 10? So we can't play it unless we upgrade to Windows Vista? I really really did not want to install that OS, please tell me it ain't so..
