- handheldchimp, on 10/12/2007, -5/+40Im not gonna lie, my favorite map is the "Installation of Content Failed" map. Its so well made, and takes up little to exactly no space on your xbox 360 hard drive.
- strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -4/+36@abovejesus:
Pick up the levels. They cost less than a song for Guitar Hero 2! Obviously worth it. - guitarh3ro, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Awesome. Now gimme Sidewinder!
- jorach, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Halo 2's matchmaking system is unrivaled. I'd play Gears of War with friends but since we can't make a party of four and go on a whirlwind tour of random internet opponents I got bored with it.
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13It's "Jäger".
Unless you're referring to taking a shot of Chuck Yeager, but I doubt he produces much fluid any more. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Cheap%20Skate
- amsoell, on 04/20/2009, -3/+12$2 is more than reasonable for a map that will, potentially, provide hours of entertainment. You pay for a game, you pay for the content that comes with it. You pay for Xbox Live, you pay for the ability to play these games over the internet. Nobody is entitled to additional content for free. If people stop paying for it, it isn't going to be free, it's just not going to be made anymore.
- jonnyeh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11No one is putting a gun to your head to buy the content.
If a game isn't worth $60 to you, then don't buy it. Wait until it goes down in price.
If a company like Epic has a reputation for releasing free content for their games, I might be more likely to buy their game, but I wouldn't expect every company to do the same. - nottidredd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10kind of sucks that I have to pay $4 regardless if I want to play the maps or not. In order to play any ranked game you're required to download the new maps. I'll buy them, I just don't want to feel like I have to to play.
- Billiam627, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I cant wait to download these maps. I've always said that I loved the first Halo's multiplayer maps more, with Hang 'em High being my favorite. Maybe now I finally have a reason to retire Halo CE.
Edit: looks like Bungie put up some details on the gametypes we are gonna see on these maps: http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&cid=12366 - Trevino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Play customs.
- ernieoporto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What an awesome idea! Spend the extra $4 instead of $400 worth of my time trying to get around the payment. Genius!
- CatalystDM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4If you don't like the series, then Halo 2 itself isn't worth the money, now is it?
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I hope they remake Sidewinder for Halo 3. I also hope they make another Hang'em High for Halo 3 because even though Tombstone is awesome, I know I won't be playing Halo 2 after Halo 3 comes out.
- ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What? That's like saying I can have all of an artist's music just because I buy one of their CD's. Sorry, man, doesn't work that way. Pay for their work. At least developers actually -get- money.
- M724, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I think I'll hold back until it's free, just like the previous map packs became.
- Aidanjalali, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It's £2 in GB. Woot, we've not got screwed over something for once.
- jorach, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8You should probably just get a job instead of getting worked up about $4 downloads that no one is forcing you to buy.
- Sairgem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sorry to tell you, but they've already said the maps won't be free.
"These maps could in theory be made free eventually, like last time, but the truth is that we’ll have moved on to Halo 3 by then and it won’t be a priority. So don’t hold your breath. If you don't have a credit card, simply buy a $4 Visa gift card at a supermarket. Bam!" - EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, I do hate Halo 2 (in a few ways, I much prefer Halo PC).
It doesn't help that it seems that 90% of the Halo 2 community is a bunch of 12 year olds who think it's cool to swear and type leet (just look at the Bungie forums, I seriously wish I could send an e-slap to the user who wrote "First page!" or "hi 2 u how r u duin? up 4 some h2?".
If I was bungie and I saw how young (or young minded) the majority of the community following me was, I'd be embarrassed.
The best thing that Halo 2 did was get rid of those kiddies from Halo PC. It is soooo much nicer not having to deal with them online. But I still like playing Halo 2 once in a while, I don't know why, but its fun sometimes. Then of course some little cheating brat will come along and ruin the game.
Oh, back to the topic...my little brother is paying for the maps (since he plays every day) so I have been trying to download them (since I do want to play in the new maps for a while to try it out). But we get the installation failed error as well. :( - McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Until you stop to realize that I don't have to replace some component of, or my entire, PC every 6 months to 1 year, that I can use my 51" high def televsion rather than my 17" monitor and that I can sit comfortably on my couch.
PC gamers are such idiots.... - BabySlapper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7You'll spend more on one shot of Yeager (that you'll never remember after passing out) but you'll contemplate spending $4 on a map pack?
- krasherspk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@lmn8r
You are barking up the wrong tree on this one. A company other than Bungie created these maps, Certain Affinity if you want to look them up. Are you saying they shouldn't get paid for the work they've done? - Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had to reset the connections for my TV because I kept getting the same error message. I was hooked up through VGA through my HDTV and apparently the maps won't download if you do that. Also, check through Xbox.com to see if your credit card is up to date.
- dynamojoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5***** you right back. If you don't like their policy, wait until they release the stuff for free. Or, you know, find something better to do with your hard-earned $4.
(I'm planning on buying them, but I'm upgrading from an xbox to a 360 elite when it becomes available and I'm cheap enough to not want to pay for them twice.) - strictnein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Halo 2 supports widescreen. If you haven't figured this out by now.... *shrug*
- jonpirtle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i hope a lot of people buy this, if anyone wants to play send me a message on XBL
gamertag: xx scavenger xx - DiggsOnlyNeoCon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yaeger : Jaeger :: Popov : Smirnoff?
- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"If Bungie only opened their game up, or Microsoft allowed them too, we wouldn't need to be paying for extra maps in the first place."
Ya...just look at Halo CE. I remember trying an ass load of maps for that.
Most of the ones I tried an 8 year old could have made better, so don't give us some BS about having it open, because once it is everyone and their grandmother will be making maps, which nobody will use and will make it extremely hard to find good ones.
I think they should open it up...but only let the users release it to others via Xbox Live consoles for a cost. But of course allow people to send and receive locally with flash drives. I just don't want to see a list 10 miles long with 5 good maps on it. - EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope Bungie put in some secret code to start modded Xbox's on fire if they install the new maps.
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/244804
You might have to decrypt or re-encrypt it or something. Never tried it. Just guessing. - marcomc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow. wow. im sorry to keep commenting, but it is NOT WORKING.
how hard is it to release a map pack and have it download properly, if you are MICROSOFT.
i dont understand. the only resolution appears to be "getting lucky" with the time,
and pressing the download button right when nobody else is.
how ridiculous. i just want to play hang em high. *****. - tokeio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@stuartyeaton
You obviously didn't read my other post. Bungie hasn't made jack since Halo. While Marathon was a trilogy, there was a lot more to the Marathon series than Halo. Just having the ability to modify Marathon using Bungie provided tools and those developed by the community over the years makes it a far better product than Halo. Add to the fact that Marathon had a better developed storyline, Halo is really just a shadow of what it could have been in relationship to Marathon.
Furthermore, during the development of Infinity we all knew Myth was coming. The cogs of the Bungie machine were moving. Now they feel stalled. Halo has never been better than the first game and I don't expect Halo 3 to surpass it. I can't fault them for they success they've had, but there is good reason why key folks have left since June 19, 2000. I hope they can prove me wrong.
I could go on and on about what really happened to the Halo franchise, but with my parting words I will say this. Halo is now a massive property owned by Microsoft who is intent on milking it as much as it can. If releasing two "old" maps for an old game doesn't prove this then the fact that the Halo movie was dropped by Universal and Fox due to "financial misunderstandings" should drive the point home. - stuartyeaton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2tokeio: "Can this game just die already?"
"Marathon? Own the Trilogy box set which includes maps I've personally made for the series"
And can i presume you didn't make these maps available at launch? Why do you want the Halo series to 'die' at this stage when you seem to have enjoyed the Marathon games over 3 installments? A valid reason rather than a history of your Bungie developed game ownership and the claim that they have sold their souls will hopefully make my post redundant. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm in the same boat
- marcomc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the last time, to download these maps you need to have a GOLD ACCOUNT, even with points and a silver account itll give you the error.
I really dont get why, its really pissing me off. *****, guess i have to spend 30 bucks on a three month card...thats the lowest one right? - mcraigw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No.... they charge $6 to have a picture taken of you with his corpse. Very Popular. Yup, $6 for one shot of Yeager.
- Ocelot13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2what does the elite have to do with what games are out? the elite doesnt have its own games....and just a quick question..
are you from the future? because you say the elite is out, but its not out till the 29th. so please, explain - xelloss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am sure they have already started making other games, this is why they are not making Halo Wars them selves, and are having another studio work on it. I really can't wait to see what the guys over there come up with after Halo 3 ships.
- LMN8R, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The problem isn't paying for new content. I have a very comfortable job, thank you very much. The problem is that, as seen currently with Guitar Hero 2, publishers taking advantage of OVER-charging for content.
If a couple of average maps, remakes of old ones no less, require a 3rd party company to spend months of resources doing so, that's their problem, not mine. I'm sure joe schmoe of the modding community on PC could do just as good a job in a couple weeks out of pure love for doing so.
If Bungie only opened their game up, or Microsoft allowed them too, we wouldn't need to be paying for extra maps in the first place. - tokeio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It would be fantastic to hear about new IP coming out of Bungie within the next 12 months. However, considering that a majority of their original founding fathers and brain trust has left in the last seven years, I won't hold my breath.
Microsoft has turned them into a Halo factory and while good for MS and Bungie financially, in the end it's hurt Bungie's ability to be that creative force they once were. Here's to hoping after Halo 3 they can get back on a creative path. - jonpirtle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Just to let everyone know, the remake of Hang em' High is amazing. It was by far one of the top 3 maps (the other 2 being Damnation and Chill Out) of the better game (Halo:CE)...but even though the 2nd game isn't as good in my opinion, at least we get to play one of the great maps now. The remake of Derelict isn't to shabby either
- strabes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What is your definition of "better?"
- marcomc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whoops, one month is available, sorry, my mistake. and now, finally, on to Hang em High, the greates halo map of all time. Rockets only.
- ernieoporto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That extra time is so that you can go in with your friends in a custom game and learn the ins and outs of the map. So you don't get p0wNjULa+3d when you go into the playlists next week.
- dustysquareback, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They aren't "bringing 6v6 back", they are destroying BTB. I am a sad panda.
But these maps are pure awesomeness. I d/ld them about 3am last night and played some customs.
Gamertags to add if you guys wanna play customs tonight, and later this week.

EL CHALUPAS - ernieoporto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Looks like the maps were pulled because of the high number of glitches and purchase problems. See the Bungie forums or the various YouTube links below.
- eXk0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saw this from the GameFAQs forum...they need some QA here..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Ymxx22CPw - McGrude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remove the mod and pay another $4.00 like everyone else has to?
- MichaelBerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea I wasted over 2 hours (in 2 days) on the phone trying to fix that problem...
What you have to do is:
(making the account)
-make a silver account (its free)
-select your name from the "xbox live" tab on the dashboard
-go to account management
-select "yes" on the tab that appears on the right
-select memberships
-select "Xbox Live Silver Membership"
-select "change payment options"
-then "add credit card"
(Getting the maps, or lack there of..)
-Log into halo with your gold account (otherwise you will automatically get the "troubleshooter" thingy... cause your not supposed to play online with a silver account)
-Go to the downloader and sign in with your silver account (however atm i am still getting the "installation failure" thing, but once/if they fix that, then this method will work for downloading the maps...)
-Download maps (when they fix them)
