So far, I'm not excited about these tracks. - drinkGreen, on 10/11/2007, -4/+41forget the 80s.
Where the ***** is ACDC, Led Zepplin, and Pink Floyd for the classic hits? - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+38Of course if they ever release these tracks as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version, they'll force us to pay about $150 to download all of them because, according to Red Octane, Activision, and Microsoft, they have to charge for than double the price for the music files alone, even though they don't have to print any CDs or manuals or pay for retail shelf space.
***** greedy sons of bitches, the lot of them. - shadus, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3480s is far better than emo... go bleed livejournal somewhere else.
They need some dream theater in there badly, but i see several good songs and a lot of songs that will be fun to play even if they weren't favorites of mine. - KidVicious, on 10/11/2007, -1/+21An 80s "Rock Pack" without any Iron Maiden? Absurd...
- kriuz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+19give me Metallica!!!
- Nesh, on 10/11/2007, -2/+13"Emo music doesn't contain anything but powerchords. En emo-edition of Guitar Hero would only have the Easy and Medium levels because after Medium, there is nothing more to add."
Hard on the emo version is the same as medium, except you're supposed to cut yourself first, then cry about it, then play the song. - Nidis, on 10/11/2007, -3/+12Dream Theater is... slightly left of what they're looking for. The tracks they pick have to be the right mix of:
- Being well known, so the common buyer will be able to recognize some tracks,
- Having the right formula for simulated guitaring on four difficulty settings; can you imagine Glass Prison on easy?
- Having an even mix of genres; this being the 80's... considering Dream Theater was hardly popular back then... no.
By the same token, if there was a metal edition, something like As I Am wouldn't go astray.
If I had to recommend some for the 80's... I'd say:
- Be Chrool To Your Scool by Twister Sister (may as well pick an interesting single...)
- Hold The Line by Toto
- Jacob's Ladder by Huey Lewis And The News (one of the greatest bands ever. Dont kid yourself)
- My Angel Is A Centerfold by Jay Geils Band
- Holy Grail by Hunters & Collectors
- Dr Rockter by W.A.S.P.
- Breakin' The Chains by Dokken
- Runaway by Bon Jovi - acebrickman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11no stairway... denied!
- elDoppelganger, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8ABSOLUTELY NO STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!!
(says guitar hero) - chandrab, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10What? No Def Leppard? Say it isn't so!
They defined the 80 Pop Metal era:
Photograph
Rock of Ages
Pour some sugar on me
Foolin'
Hysteria
(I could go on and on) - MoonDogAFO, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Well, I happen to have grown up in the 80s and liked my hair metal bands just fine, thankyouverymuch. I'm actually considering a purchase of a 360 just because of GH II. And the guy from the article states that he might be an elitist, and asks for certain groups that I never heard of. I'd agree withi him - elitist. I see a lot more in this comment section.
If (or when) your genre of music achieves a similar level of popularity and commercial success, maybe we will see if GH releases stuff for it. If that happens, you can be sure that I won't hopp onto Digg to denigrate it or the people who listen to it. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6There is NEVER a wrong time for Danzig!
- Xarou, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Def Leppard or Motley Crue. I am listening to the Crue right now, and had Def Leppard on the last song. Yeah, I'm a fan of 80s music. KISS would also be cool.
- plhearn, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7I'm buying it for these 3 tracks alone:
"I Ran (So Far Away)" - A Flock of Seagulls
"Holy Diver" - Dio
"Synchronicity II" - The Police
Long live the 80s! - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I don't know who immediately thinks "THE POLICE" when the 80's rock are mentioned. They're closed to pop. Great choices otherwise. A little Ozzy (Crazy Train), Exodus (Bonded by Blood) and Flotsam and Jetsam (Hard on You) will not hurt at all.
- fuzzboxer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm surprised there hasn't been any Billy Idol so far. Same thing with Prince. Those seem like automatics to me.
- Shando, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No Iron Maiden or Metallica?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7If they wanted to make this really ill, they would include:
Slayer (from Reign In Blood), Metallica (from Master of Puppets), some Yngwie, and some Joe Satriani...
and on the Hardcore tip- D.R.I., Carnviore, the Accused, and the Misfits... who's with me? - bussche, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5the 80's is a decade that for the most part we show all forget ever happened musically.
They should make a 70's one with some zeppelin, ac/dc, etc. - Crosshare, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5If they had Kashmir I would drop the cash on that game in a second.
- evildeadman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I'm with you on the Slayer front. Raining Blood, Hell Awaits, South of Heaven, Mandatory Suicide would be some great "identifiable" tracks from which to choose.
Also, classic Misfits would be pretty sweet. If they did, though, they better just pay Danzig to do the vocals, after how the last vocalist butchered Mother in GHII. - MehYam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Ah, Holy Diver: Jump! Jump! Jump on the tigah! You can see his stripes so you know he's clean... oh, don't you see what I mean?
- bluedog16, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6A "Guitar Hero: Blues Legend" would be amazing...
Especially if it was filled with more stuff like:
Crossroads - Cream
Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughn
Rock This Town - Stray Cats
I don't know why they seem to be trending toward 80's metal. Guitar Hero 2 was definitely too dark and too metal (Suicidal Tendencies, Danzig, The Sword, etc.).
I don't typically listen to stuff like Cream or the Rolling Stones(Can't You Hear Me Knocking) or Aerosmith (Last Child), but those songs are by far the most fun to play. - Amps, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I would rather 60's or 70's personally...
- negativefx, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5tried it, wasn't impressed
- sinurgy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I expected the mainstream lineup but along those same lines, how the hell do you have an 80's edition with no Def Leppard or Bon Jovi?
If this is Guitar Hero, why the hell don't they have "The Audience is Listening" by Steve Vai yet?! That would be fun as hell!!! - GutterMoo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3could anyone imagine the difficulty of a yngwie song on extreme?
- CBanga, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Forget Hillbilly. I want Guitar Hero Benny Hill.
- drmangrum, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2So they put dio on there, but they didnt use the song Rainbow in the Dark?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yeh, trust them to make this the thing they choose not to sell out on :p
Think it would make great promotion for the next album if some dates align right (as if they will need any). - negativefx, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Holy Diver FTW
- Alphateam, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I put Metallica and Star Wars in the same boat.
Once was good, kicked all ass.
New stuff comes out suckes so bad that it brings down the good stuff. - goatfucker, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Certainly a few of those songs would be fun to play, especially after harmonix adds some face-melters to them... But what I'm really waiting for is a classic rock/blues edition! So far, my favorite track in the GH series has been Crossroads.
- robertisaar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4seriously, early metallica and megadeth tracks were heavy on the guitar and would bring in a lot more buyers
- cryptic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1dugg just because the dude name dropped slint.
- KanosWRX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wow I am really not impressed at all with this 80's edition so far, I was really hoping to have some fun with this one too :( So far there is maybe 1 or 2 good tracks on there, and they aren't even great. Looks like I won't be buying this one if things keep going this way.
- caselogic, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I guess I am the only one but didn't this music suck in the 80s! The pop stuff I can give camp value to but for Poison or any other "hair" band to call themselves metal is a joke. I love Guitar Hero but will be a rental.
I am just waiting for the 90s version. With Silverchair, Bush, Garbage and other bands I find myself rocking to when the local rock station plays a flashback weekend but I wouldn't be caught dead listening to in high school. I shouldn't feel old at 26. - sshuit, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5As an 80's fan who's tastes don't run into hair bands or metal.... *meh*
I was hoping for something a bit more "alternative" / "new wavy" - Nidis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If they wanted to make this really ill, they would include:
Slayer (from Reign In Blood), Metallica (from Master of Puppets), some Yngwie, and some Joe Satriani...
and on the Hardcore tip- D.R.I., Carnviore, the Accused, and the Misfits... who's with me?
Hardcore? FAIL. Is dat sum fkn Frank Zappa? I'll roll over and die the day I see an edition containing The Muffin Man, or Black Napkins. - knuckhead, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4'Frets On Fire' is a great Windows program, check it out, and the guitar controller works great on the pc.
- sporkyzero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1with eddie money and billy squier why wouldn't you have "take me home tonight" and "the stroke"? and with skid row the obvious choice would be "youth gone wild". wtf are those other songs? lame. otherwise the tracks are decent at best.
- nicko68, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Well, I'm 38 and the first time I played it was at Future Shop (big box electronics retailer in Canada) on easy in front of some people, including teenagers (luckily for my ego they were really nice, and were telling me about the PS2 version). I sucked bad, but I ended up buying it. The learning curve is pretty good (I'm definitely better than I was that day anyway) :)
BTW, those teens played after me (on expert) and they were really good.
Don't be intimidated, it's meant to be picked up by anyone. - yellowb, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1hopefully they will release some DLC for the 360.... what's taking them so long for some new DLC?
- doggy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This sounds like a really great lineup. how hard is it to play the game? I love the thought of playing a guitar, but I am a little intimidated by it
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"hit the jump for the full press release" is hte gayest thing ever written.
It is bad enough that people arbitrarily decided that a set of internet ads were called the jump. After the jump" is bad enough. But "hit the jump" means absolutely nothing. It is just a terrible writer TRYING to sound hip. - kbry, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I would just like to thank nesh for that comment on emo kids...cause its so true
- johlin, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4@CBanga: Emo music doesn't contain anything but powerchords. En emo-edition of Guitar Hero would only have the Easy and Medium levels because after Medium, there is nothing more to add.
- nicko68, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2I've played Frets on Fire. It's decent, kinda neat. However, it pales in comparison to the original. The graphics are much better on the consoles -- the crowds pumping their fists in the air, the moving camera angles, the stage settings, the other band members. Frets on Fire is kinda plain, with a couple of silhouettes moving around, a set of drums (where's the drummer) and some speakers. There's a lot more to get into with Guitar Hero. Not to mention Star Power! :)
- IkeE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Oh F-ing great...
Summer release = Three decent songs and about 1,000,000 YouTube videos of some dumbass thinking he is Yngwie cause he can jam on 5 buttons..
Who am I kidding, I'll buy the damn thing anyways....GH rocks....just wish we could get a set like GH1, playability of GH2, and some AC/DC.
Doesn't anybody know if they are putting a bunch of F-ed up wanna be tracks by the developers garage band's again? I hated that crap last time. -
